Film Review: Inconsistent ‘Do Not Disturb’ Features Revolving Door of Quality
Rating: 3.0/5.0

Chicago – The beautiful Mali Elfman, daughter of the great composer Danny Elfman, has written and produced (and co-stars in) a unique piece of work called “Do Not Disturb,” a collection of interconnected short films that chronicles the bizarre happenings in a Los Angeles hotel room and is now available On Demand. What goes on behind closed doors? If the walls of even one room could talk, the stories they would tell would be great fodder for filmmaking. “Do Not Disturb” is too inconsistent to recommend completely but features a few interesting elements and bodes well for a promising filmmaker.

Not unlike “Four Rooms,” “Do Not Disturb” links together a series of short films through one hotel worker, an unnamed maid effectively played by Diva Zappa (the youngest daughter of the legendary Frank). The five vignettes are directed by different filmmakers, including Eric Balfour (an actor well-known for his work...

Trailer for indie horror anthology Do Not Disturb
Eric Balfour, Laura Henry, Petro Papahadjopoulos, Jon Mann-Krieger and Brandon Nicholas each direct a segment in this twisted anthology that sounds like a Twilight Zone version of Four Rooms. They were given a brief synopsis, eight rules to follow and one day on set to create their film.

Synopsis:

Five directors tackle five short stories that are all tied together in one dark, twisted, humorous film about what goes on behind the door of room 316. From a lonely man who pushes a hooker too far, to a Twilight Zone-esque, sci-fi tale, to a sweet teenage romance, and then finally a noir thriller about a man, a woman, a maid and the mafia tied into a spooky horror with a hotel maid - Do Not Disturb has it all.

The cast includes Balfour, Diva Zappa, Jason Alan Smith, Troy Garity, Lindsay Pulsipher, Mali Elfman, Maureen Flannigan, Jonathan Majors and John Reese.

Trailer for Mali Elfman’s Do Not Disturb
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting ScreenCrave writer and fellow film journalist Mali Elfman (right) on multiple occasions. In case you missed it, she was the one who directed last year’s sweded Iron Man 2 trailer (and I was lucky enough to co-star in it). Elfman recently produced a film called Do Not Disturb. It’s from five different directors (Eric Balfour, Petro Papahadjopoulos, Laura Henry, Jon Mann-Krieger and Brandon Nicholas) and tells five separate stories but also can come together to form a complete feature with a single storyline. It’s like a cinematic Voltron. I should also make it clear that Elfman also co-stars in the film and that’s why she’s splatted with blood in the photo above. Or at least that’s what I’ve been led to believe.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer for Do Not Disturb. The feature...
