As people begin to assess what they lost in the Los Angeles wildfires, producer Amanda Rohlke and production designer and art director Amelia Steely are encouraging industry colleagues to share images with property owners to help with insurance claims and offer sentimental value.
The idea came to Rohlke and Steely on Monday when they were texting with a friend whose family lost their house in the Palisades. Rohlke suddenly remembered she had shot a film at the house in 2013 and that the crew took lots of photos. She contacted the art department from the shoot to try to find the photos, and when Rohlke updated her friends, Steely realized she too had photos from various locations.
“It occurred to me, wow, there are all these resources that homeowners may not know about,” Steely said. “Often the homeowner’s absent and doesn’t know that somebody has taken hundreds of photos of their home.

A lot of Rocky Walls’ minuscule indie drama “Dirty Laundry” hinges on the fact that it is leading towards something. Therefore, it is very important for its interiors and exteriors to match up to what the characters are going through. With the film set entirely at a local laundromat and only two major players in the game, it is a hard balance to maintain. Walls, who sets his film in the late nineties is aware of this hard play that he has to overpower. However, with a limited budget and very few surprises up his sleeves, other than the occasional nostalgia bait, he only manages to do so much. That said, this is such a small and intimate film that you are bound to understand and reflect upon the genuineness that went into making it.

Most of the single-location movies I have come across have aimed to thrill. Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope, Dial M for Murder, and Rear Window are some of the most beautifully crafted murder mysteries in existence. Sidney Lumet’s 12 Angry Men, Murder on the Orient Express, and Dog Day Afternoon are dripping with tension and drama. The Shining, The Thing, Misery, Krampus, and The Hateful Eight have expertly used a wintery landscape to generate suspense and horror. Snakes on a Plane, Train to Busan, and Greyhound have turned entire vehicles themselves into battlegrounds for survival. And the list just goes on. So, yes, it’s a little hard to find a single-location film that doesn’t get your heart pumping and your mind racing because being stuck in one place is terrifying. That said, Rocky Walls’ Dirty Laundry is a real change of pace. Is it any good? Let’s find out.

Last week we called your attention to occult-oriented retro rockers Blood Ceremony (sweet new record, check out the review here), and it so happens they're currently touring in support of Kylesa, a well-established unit formed in Georgia back in 2000 and well known for their dark, swampy psychedelic mode of metal. Kylesa's sixth studio record Ultraviolet hit the street around the same time as Blood Ceremony's The Eldritch Dark, and it's about time we dropped our needle on this band's ominous new offering. Blending rough-edged stoner sludge with the mood and textures of gothic & doom metal, Kylesa have made a few mods to their sound since their gritty, punk-infused 2010 breakthrough Spiral Shadow, which laid down corrosive power-riffs, anthemic chants and a thundering rhythmic assault (courtesy of dual drummers Carl McGinley and Eric Hernandez), scoring the band their highest props to date. On Ultraviolet, their sound is still effectively aggressive, but now incorporates more subdued,...
