September 15 Will Be a Great Day for Futurama Fans
Image
Hulu is bringing back the binge release this September. The streamer has announced that all 10 episodes of Futurama Season 13 will be released on the same day.

Per Deadline, Hulu will release the entirety of Futurama Season 13 on Sept. 15, a noticeable shift in how the streamer has previously been releasing new episodes of the animated revival. Alongside the binge release, FX will air two new episodes of “Futurama” per week starting Sept. 15 at 8/7c. This, too, is a departure from the Hulu-aired Seasons 11 and 12, where only one episode released per week.

'King of the Hill's Most Shocking Episode Changed the Show for the Better
Image
King of the Hill was a strong show from the very beginning. In its first year, Entertainment Weekly and Time included it on their Best TV of the Year lists. But, it truly defined itself and stood out from other Fox animated series like The Simpsons with its bold two-parter “Propane Boom” and “Propane Boom II: Death of a Propane Salesman.” “Propane Boom” was the Season 2 finale and ended with an explosion at Mega-lo-Mart while Hank Hill (Mike Judge), Luanne Platter (Brittany Murphy), and Buckley (David Herman) were inside. Between episodes, Fox ran promos speculating which of these characters had died. The cliffhanger and the subsequent character death were more than a publicity stunt. They were an important arc that showed audiences exactly how good King of the Hill could be.

These TV spin-offs are as good as their original shows, or sometimes even better. However, some spin-offs fall to obscurity, although the reasons for this often vary.

For some titles, it’s the case of being popular at the time of release, but are just no longer prominent nowadays. Whether they’re good, bad, or simply okay, audiences are typically unfamiliar with these TV show spin-offs.

Why Was The Goode Family Canceled?
Image
Quick Links The Plot and Storylines of The Goode Family Why The Goode Family Flopped Where King of the Hill Succeeded

Mike Judge has a pretty impressive resume in animation. He was the mastermind behind two of the most iconic animated series of the '90s with Beavis and Butt-Head and King of the Hill. These shows couldn't have been more different in style and tone, with the crass Beavis and Butt-Head and family-oriented Hank Hill. Audiences loved them in the '90s and still do today. Both have modern revivals either released or in production. But we shouldn't expect to see a reboot of Judge's third animated show. And don't worry if you didn't know he even had another series.

In 2009, ABC launched Judge's The Goode Family. Like King of the Hill, it also centered on a family trying their best to grapple with the issues of modern everyday life.

Futurama Lost Its Groove - Here's How It Can Get It Back
Image
Fans are thrilled with new episodes of Futurama on Hulu, but some feel the show has lost its energy and magic over the years. The new season of Futurama feels dated and struggles to keep up with changing norms, relying on tired jokes and old targets for satire. The characters in Futurama, including Fry and Bender, need to age and grow to keep the show relevant and avoid becoming stagnant.

The following reveals spoilers for new episodes of Futurama, now streaming on Hulu.

Futurama has come back from the dead more than once, having first been picked up by Comedy Central after its departure from Fox, followed by a resurrection on Hulu that began in 2023. That constitutes either 10 or 12 seasons, depending on how one counts, and fans are no doubt thrilled to have new episodes to enjoy once again. The adventures of 20th-century slacker Philip J. John Dimaggio Tells ‘Futurama’ Fans to ‘Bite My Shiny Metal Ass’ If They Don’t Like the New Topical Jokes

If the Futurama subreddit doesn’t “zip it” with their criticisms of Season 12’s pop-culture-heavy plot lines, John Dimaggio, the legendary voice actor who plays Bender Rodriguez, might just start his own fan forum with blackjack and hookers.

We’re only two episodes into the second of four planned seasons in Hulu’s Futurama revival, but a vocal contingency within the cult-beloved sci-fi comedy’s fandom is already wondering whether the well has run dry on original episode ideas. Last week, the series premiere “The One Amigo” gave fans a long-winded explanation of the cryptologic principles behind Non-Fungible Tokens, also known as NFTs, also known as that annoying tech bro trend that ruined Twitter for a few months back in 2021. Then, yesterday’s episode, “Quids Game,” was an equally timely-ish parody of the hit Netflix series Squid Game, also from 2021, also demonstrating how the show that’s supposed to be...

Oft-Canceled ‘Futurama’ Always Gets ‘Short End of Stick,’ Says the Voice of Bender
Image
Is Futurama the Rodney Dangerfield of adult animation?

John Dimaggio, the actor who voices Bender, believes the show gets no respect. From shuffling time slots to actual cancellations, Matt Groening’s other creation has “been getting the short end of the stick for a while,” Dimaggio told Newsweek.

Let’s count the ways in which Futurama has received the Dangerfield treatment:

Groening conceived the show as a companion to The Simpsons, a self-created superblock of cartoon comedy. Fox had other ideas, using Futurama as a utility player and plugging it into various holes in its primetime lineup so that audiences were never sure where to find it. “When we were on Fox, I was working on King of the Hill and Futurama at the time,” said David Herman, another one of the show’s voice actors. “We were on at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. — and Fox’s slogan...

The original voice cast of Futurama is back for the show's eleventh season, bringing iconic characters like Fry, Leela, and Bender to life once again. On this orbit, the occasionally heroic crew embarks on mind-bending adventures involving birthday party games to the death, the secrets of Bender’s ancestral robot village, A.I. friends (and enemies), impossibly cute beanbags, and the true five-million-year-old story behind the consciousness-altering substance known as coffee. And, of course, the next chapter in Fry and Leela’s fateful, time-twisted romance.

The series features the voices of John Dimaggio, BIlly West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice Lamarche, Lauren Tom, Phil Lamar, and David Herman. Created by Matt Groening and developed by Groening and David X.

When the World Decided Michael Bolton Was Funny and Cool
Image
Writer Bill Zehme profiled easy-listening icon Barry Manilow for Rolling Stone in 1990, and he opened his piece with a devastating observation: “When your name is a punchline, you live in hell. Barry Manilow lives in hell.” Manilow’s fans disagreed, of course, but for the rest of us, Zehme tapped into something deeply true about our feelings regarding the adult-contemporary artist. His songs were so epically cringey that his very name came to embody something noxious. His name became a shorthand for cheesy.

Over the years, other artists have had to deal with a similar fate. Sure, they’re wildly popular, but to a contingent of music junkies, their bland, feel-good songs are anathema. For quite a while, one such artist was Michael Bolton. And in 1999, Mike Judge decided to literally make Bolton’s name a punchline in Office Space by giving one of his miserable office-drone characters (played by David Herman) the same name.

What Happened to Office Space?
Image
Anyone who’s ever worked in an office knows what a mind-numbing, soul-sucking experience it can be. And if you haven’t worked in an office, you know someone who has because they’re probably intent on telling you what a depressing bummer it is, day in and day out.

We’ve seen plenty of movies take place in the corporate world, but few of them have ever touched upon the monotony of the experience quite like “Office Space,” Mike Judge’s incisive takedown of cubicles, office managers, and the drudgery of a Nine to Five in a soulless office building. In fact, one needn’t have worked in an office to relate to its characters who search for something meaningful in their boring jobs. Most everyone’s had a job that made them want to slam their head against the wall, and “Office Space” seems dedicated to those of...

Futurama Almost Gave Fry A Second, Fancier Robot Friend
Image
In the "Futurama" episode "A Fishful of Dollars", Fry (Billy West) remembers that he had 93 cents in his savings account when he was cryogenically frozen in 1999. After a thousand years of .25% interest, however, that amount had grown into a fortune of 4.3 billion dollars. Thankfully, inflation hasn't kept pace, and Fry is suddenly one of the wealthiest people on the planet. As anyone with abrupt access to a massive fortune might, Fry immediately begins to squander his riches on frivolous things. He buys the Mona Lisa merely so he may use it as a clay pigeon for skeet shooting. He tries to recreate a slobby, 20th-century apartment just as he remembered it. Most notably, he buys an ancient can of anchovies at auction, a valuable commodity indeed, given that anchovies went extinct many years before. The anchovies, still sealed, are guaranteed to be edible.

Unbeknownst to Fry, however, the anchovies are...

11 Fictional Movie Characters Who Accidentally Have The Same Name As Famous People
Image
Not just fictional characters, but also real-life celebrities later shared iconic names with movie characters. Famous names like Steve Martin, Tom Hardy, and Chris Pratt were originally associated with fictional characters. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes accidentally, famous names are given to movie characters, leading to surprising connections.

While it was not uncommon for movie characters to be named after famous people, it was not often that it happened the other way around. Looking back on old movies, it was very distracting when a regular character with a seemingly insignificant name ended up with a title that later became insanely recognizable. While these were merely coincidences at the time, iconic names such as Homer Simpson or real-life celebrities like Tom Hardy have shared a title with fictional movie characters in films that were made way before their names became readily associated with them.

Of course, there were some instances where characters were...

Futurama Season 12 Release Date Confirmed
Image
Futurama season 12 will premiere on Hulu, July 29, just over one year after the premiere of the first revival season. The show has faced interruptions in the past, but Hulu's renewal for seasons 13 and 14 shows commitment. Though the future beyond season 14 remains unclear, longtime fans of the sci-fi sitcom have plenty of hilarious stories to look forward to in the meantime.

Futurama season 12 now officially has a release date. Initially premiering on Fox over two decades ago, the popular sci-fi sitcom officially ended in 2013 with season 10 and a befitting finale for the sitcom’s main protagonist. However, 10 years after the show ended, Hulu revived the show for season 11, which premiered in mid-2023, and following its conclusion, the streamer announced that the sitcom would be returning once again for season 12.

Now, months after Hulu confirmed Futurama season 12 is on its way, TVLine reports that the show’s new season is set for release on Monday,...

‘Office Space’ Reunion: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Mike Judge’s Classic
Image
Mike Judge and his Office Space cast reunited at South by Southwest Film & TV Festival for a panel discussion March 9 sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter about the beloved and influential film — a title that arguably reinvented the workplace comedy for the modern age and popularized the concept of quiet quitting. While the panel discussion tackled several intriguing aspects about the film’s creation and reception (some highlights below), Judge revealed a few extra tidbits at the post-panel reception at Austin’s The Statesman restaurant.

Asked if there was anything he would change about the film (which was famously difficult to get made, with the writer-director fending off a blizzard of studio executive Tps reports, er, notes), Judge offhandedly noted he hasn’t seen his film since before it was released in 1999. Everybody in earshot of this (including star Ron Livingston) looked surprised, given the film initially flopped at the box...

The Best Scene In Office Space Was Almost Ruined By The Studio [SXSW 2024]
Image
"Office Space," Mike Judge's satirical take on white collar office culture, disappointed at the box office but soon became a cult favorite after it arrived in 1999. That was mostly thanks to home video sales and Comedy Central airing the film multiple times after its theatrical run. But "Office Space" thoroughly deserved whatever cult status it attained, because it always felt very much ahead of its time.

The film stars Ron Livingston as Peter Gibbons, a put-upon programmer who spends his days amid the bleakly oppressive environs of software company Initech. After being hypnotized to stop caring about his job, Peter takes a lackadaisical approach to work and surprisingly begins to climb his way up the corporate ladder. But when his colleagues Samir Nagheenanajar (Ajay Naidu) and Michael Bolton (David Herman) are fired, Peter and his friends mastermind a plan to steal money from Initech via a software virus. The...

Michael Bolton's Angry Response To The Running Office Space Joke — & If He's Changed His Mind
Image
The character "Michael Bolton" in Office Space is a running gag that the real singer found frustrating at first. The movie's relatable workplace satire has gained a cult following with references and parodies in pop culture. Despite initial dislike, the real Michael Bolton has accepted the joke as part of his legacy in later years.

Michael Bolton appears in Office Space, or rather, a character named "Michael Bolton" appears in Office Space as a running gag that the real-life singer was none too pleased with. Office Space, from movie director and TV showrunner Mike Judge, is a satirical comedy about the daily drudgery of the modern workplace. A biting satire with an all-star cast that includes Ron Livingston, Jennifer Aniston, Stephen Root, Gary Cole, John C. McGinley, and more, it's astounding that the comedy flopped at the box office.

However, Office Space has since developed such a large cult following.

‘Office Space’ at 25: The Unlikely Cult Hit That Had Its Cast “Biting the Inside” of Their Cheeks From Laughter
Image
Office Space is celebrating its 25th anniversary following its delayed path to success, although hopefully no one would get their ass kicked for saying something like that.

Released Feb. 19, 1999, director Mike Judge’s enduring and endlessly quotable workplace satire follows computer programmer Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston), who decides to stop caring about his day job and teams up with Initech co-workers Michael Bolton (David Herman) and Samir Nagheenanajar (Ajay Naidu) to defraud the company. The Fox comedy — featuring such on-the-rise performers as Jennifer Aniston, John C. McGinley, Gary Cole and Stephen Root — collected just $10 million at the time but became a cult favorite after finding a following through cable and home video.

Other standouts from the cast include Richard Riehle as engineer liaison Tom Smykowski, who defends his job (“I have people skills!”) to Paul Willson and McGinley as the two Bobs who are put in charge of layoffs. In...

Image
Former First Lady Hillary Clinton posted an encouraging message addressed to Barbie duo Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie on Wednesday morning in response to their high-profile snubs amongst the nominations for this year’s Oscars.

“Greta & Margot. While it can sting to win the box office but not take home the gold,” Clinton began her note on X and Instagram, “your millions of fans love you.”

Clinton ended her message with a reference to Ryan Gosling’s now-Oscar-nominated Barbie tune “I’m Just Ken.” She said: “You’re both so much more than Kenough.”

Barbie scored a total of eight Oscar nominations Tuesday morning, but Gerwig was not named in the Best Director category and Robbie didn’t land a Best Actress nom. Having co-written Barbie alongside Noah Baumbach, Gerwig did receive a nom in the Adapted Screenplay category.

Futurama's 'Number 9 Man' Is Left Over From A Much Darker Version Of The Show
Image
Fans of "Futurama" might have noticed the Number 9 Man early on. He was a bald man with mauve skin and a grey beard wearing a long white nightshirt with the number 9 emblazoned on it. He could be seen in backgrounds and crowd scenes, yet another unusual feature in the bizarro, alien-riddled "Futurama" landscape. His number 9 was a mystery, and the character didn't have any lines or significant part to play until the 2009 "Futurama" movie "Into the Wild Green Yonder." Sci-fi fans might have posited (as this author did) that the Number 9 Man was a reference to the classic 1967 sci-fi series "The Prisoner," wherein Patrick McGoohan plays an ex-spy who was unexpectedly imprisoned in a bizarre carnival town and rechristened Number 6.

While "Futurama" co-creators David X. Cohen and Matt Groening would likely be flattered by the comparison to "The Prisoner" -- they are undoubtedly fans -- it seems that the Number...
