A Merry Little Ex-Mas: Alicia Silverstone, Melissa Joan Hart Will Star in New Netflix Holiday Rom-Com
Image
Ugh, as if you want to miss this upcoming holiday rom-com.

Alicia Silverstone is decking the halls for A Merry Little Ex-Mas, the latest addition to the Netflix holiday-verse you can add to your annual watch list. From director Steve Carr (Daddy Day Care) and writer Holly Hester (The Royal Treatment), A Merry Little Ex-Mas also stars Oliver Hudson, Jameela Jamil, Pierson Fode, and Melissa Joan Hart, who also produces with Paula Hart for Hartbreak Films.

The film, executive produced by Silverstone, premieres Nov. 12 on Netflix.

Kate (Silverstone) is recently divorced, and hoping for a picture-perfect family Christmas one last time before she sells her house. Unfortunately, her dreams of a nostalgic holiday break are dashed when her ex-husband, Everett (Hudson), unexpectedly introduces his young and successful new girlfriend into the mix. But, hey, what’s the holiday season without a little mischief?

Can’t wait for A Merry...

Alicia Silverstone and Netflix just made next Christmas a lot better
Image
Netflix is getting really good at making Hallmark-type films. But the streamer does it a bit differently. We know the Hallmark Channel drill: Boy moves to town, girl is trying to get out of a bad relationship, they meet and girl doesn't like boy, and then they end up falling in love and being happy forever. Netflix Originals normally add a lot more intrigue.

We also get actors we know well in most Netflix movies. This will be the case next year (we hope) when Alicia Silverstone is set to join Oliver Hudson, Jameela Jamil, Pierson Fode, and Melissa Joan Hart in a film called A Merry Little Ex-Mas. The script was written by Holly Hester who also penned The Royal Treatment.

The plot involves a recently separated couple trying to have one more Christmas as a family with their children before the mother starts her life over. The issue...

‘The Royal Treatment’ Review: A Stressed Hairdresser Gains a Royally Cute New Client in Noble Netflix Romp
Image
We’ve come a long way in terms of fairy tales centered on a handsome prince from a far-off land rescuing a beautiful, distressed damsel from a life of destitution. It’s widely welcomed that women can rescue themselves and concurrently complement the male arc. With Netflix delivering progressive modernizations of these fantasies in their stable of holiday-themed titles, they’ve ever-so-slightly refashioned the traditional model of empty-calorie cinematic confections. Yet their off-season offerings have been scarce — until now, with Rick Jacobson’s “The Royal Treatment,” which takes expected genre trappings and infuses them with unexpected delights, creating an enlightened, enchanting and entertaining feature.

Indomitable beauty salon owner Izzy (Laura Marano) has never met a head of hair or a troubled soul she hasn’t been able to touch. A fixture in her Bronx neighborhood, delivering donuts and smiles in equal measure to friends and family, her Italian heart of gold keeps her world turning.

Tori Garrett’s Sit. Stay. Love. follows Annie Blake (Georgia Flood), an aid worker that returns to her family’s hometown of North Haven, Vermont for the first time since her mother’s passing three years prior.

Even surrounded by her loved ones, Annie can’t help but be distracted by her desire to help those in need, and hopes of an impending promotion. When her aunt, Claire, shows Annie a flyer asking locals to foster a dog from the local shelter for the holidays, Annie sets out to lend a hand.

Arriving at the shelter, she learns it’s shut, and that the vet has taken in the animals. The vet, it turns out, is Annie’s old high school debate team nemesis, Dylan (Ezekiel Simat). With his clinic considered unsuitable as a long-term home for the rescued animals, the pair decide to help the shelter owner open his doors once more.
