CNN Originals will reteam with executive producers Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Mark Herzog for a new installment in their Emmy-nominated Decades Series with Decades In Sports. The CNN Original Series will premiere in 2026.

Decades in Sports continues the CNN Original Series’ partnership with Playtone. That which includes over eight seasons and over 70 hours of television, including The Sixties, 1968: The Year That Changed America, The Seventies, The Eighties, The Nineties, The 2000s, The 2010s, The Movies and Tis the Season: Holidays on Film.

“Tom, Mark and I are delighted to be working with Amy Entelis again,” said Goetzman. “We’ve always felt great support and creative freedom from her and her team at CNN Originals.”

The six-part series will unravel the thrill of the victory and the agony of defeat across six decades of larger-than-life athletes, intense rivalries and stunning upsets that encapsulate the command sports have on our cultural attention.

The lineup was unveiled today as part of the Warner Bros. Discovery upfront presentation.

Eva Longoria: Searching for France, debuting in 2026, will be the latest in the network’s Searching For franchise. This fall, the network will debut the international food and travel series Tony Shalhoub Breaking Bread.

Announced earlier were two new documentary features, I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not and In the Prime of Life, as the network puts new focus on its CNN Films unit. Other highlights: Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Mark Herzog are executive producers of the original series Decades in Sports, while the network will mark the 250th anniversary of the United States with the project tentatively titled This Land Is Your Land, with October Films as producer.

Now that AppleTV+ has wrapped their 9-part limited series Masters of the Air, the streamer has released a documentary that honors the real-life events and characters seen in the show. The new documentary called The Bloody Hundredth is directed by Mark Herzog and Laurent Bouzereau, and details the real airmen played by the show's stars, Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Nate Mann, Barry Keoghan, and Anthony Boyle – members of the 100th Bomb Group of the 332 Fighter Group that flew dozens of pivotal missions in and around Nazi Germany during World War II.

The Bloody Hundredth documentary honors the real-life heroes of the 100th Bomb Group, premiering on Apple TV+ on March 15, 2024. Bravo has unveiled a first look at the “Vanderpump Rules” spinoff series “The Valley,” premiering on March 19 after a new episode of “Vanderpump Rules.” In subsequent weeks, “The Valley” will air at the regular time of 9 p.m. Et and stream the following day on Peacock.

“The 2010s,” which will premiere Sunday, May 7 at 9 p.m. Et., explores the decade that gave us Instagram, most of President Barack Obama’s administration, marriage equality, Black Lives Matter, #MeToo and Trumpism, per the official logline.

New series ‘MPower’ on Disney+ Hotstar spotlight several of the MCU’s most inspirational women heroes. “Every hero has an epic origin story and so does this series,” said Executive Producer Justin W. CNN unveiled its slate of series and films planned for 2023, as the original projects unit prepares to scale back and take production in house.

The lineup of original series includes Giuliani: What Happened to America’s Mayor?, debuting on Jan. 8, as well as United States of Scandal with Jake Tapper and another devoted to the history of Las Vegas. Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, and Mark Herzog also return with another in their “decades” projects, this one focusing on the 2010s.

But the lineup will look far different in coming years, as the network announced in October that it was pulling back on original series and films, ending collaborations with outside partners. Most of the projects on the slate were in the works before the decision was made.

CNN will debut Watergate: Blueprint for a Scandal, with John Dean offering his first-hand account of the break in that brought down Richard Nixon’s presidency, on June 5.

Dean, former White House counsel for Nixon, serves as an executive producer on the project, with the debut tied to the 50th anniversary of the break in.

In a statement, Dean said, “After passage of a half century, we have the complete record of what happened during Watergate and this series is more than a cautionary tale about these events. The criminal conduct of Richard Nixon and his top aides was found to be totally unacceptable to the American people and became the blueprint for what no President of the United States should do.”

I elicited these random superlatives from CNN’s star-laden, six-part series The Movies, whose initial run concludes this weekend. Arriving at a moment when some gurus are predicting the demise of theatrical films, the series represents a smart, passionate if occasionally repetitive exercise in cinematic hubris.

Executive producers Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Mark Herzog have managed to assemble a world-class array of film clips, which are duly applauded by a blur of top actors, directors and critics. Not only applauded but adulated. The litany of “greats” ranges from pre-war King Kong through West Side Story in the ’60s to Jaws ’70s, Et ’80s, Titanic ’90s and Harry Potter post-2000 — every clip accompanied by its superstar advocate.

After the success of CNN’s continuing miniseries chronicling the decades — beginning with The Sixties in 2014 — all the way up to The 2000s last year, it seemed natural to do a follow-up on the movies of those years. And thus we have the new six-part limited series, The Movies. Each weekly installment is two hours and focuses, like the previous series, on a particular decade from the Golden Age onward, opening with the 80’s this Sunday July 7 and continuing every Sunday through August 11. There is no rhyme or reason to the order of the shows. The producers tell me they did it chronologically, but CNN made the decision on how it would be aired initially.

Oxygen Media is continuing to expand its killer slate by greenlighting five new series, as well as a documentary about Kim Kardashian’s campaign for criminal justice reform.

The new set of projects hail from an eclectic range of creatives, including Kardashian, Mark Wahlberg, Ice-t, and Jason Blum.

“Oxygen is tremendously excited to work with some of the biggest names in the industry on such important projects,” said Rod Aissa, executive vice president of original programming and development for Oxygen. “This year we’ve increased our original hours by more than 30%, and we’ll keep ramping up our programming efforts as more fans flock to the network to experience best in class content.”

Netflix has boarded two upcoming drama series, TNT’s futuristic action thriller Snowpiercer, starring Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs, and Bravo’s anthology Dirty John, headlined by Connie Britton and Eric Bana. The Internet network is taking international distribution for both shows under its co-licensing model.

In a deal with ITV Studios Global Entertainment, Netflix will premiere Snowpiercer, co-produced by Tomorrow Studios and Studio T, globally outside of the U.S. and China in 2019.

Netflix will carry internationally Dirty John, produced by Universal Cable Productions in association with Los Angeles Times Studios and Atlas Entertainment.

Snowpiercer, based on the acclaimed 2013 movie by Bong Joon-ho, was originally a pilot, which was picked up to series by TNT, while Dirty John received a two-season, straight-to-series order from Bravo earlier this year.

Juno Temple and Julia Garner have joined the cast of the upcoming Bravo series “Dirty John,” Variety has learned.

Bravo gave “Dirty John” a two-season order in January. The scripted anthology series is based on the series of articles published by the Los Angeles Times’ last fall about a charismatic con man, John Meehan, and the consequences of an ill-fated romance. Connie Britton will star as Debra Newell, the single mother who fell in love with Meehan, who will be played by Eric Bana.

Temple and Garner will play Newell’s daughters Veronica and Terra respectively. They join previously announced supporting cast member Jean Smart, who will play Newell’s mother Arlane.

It centers on John Meehan (Bana), a handsome and romantic charmer who sweeps Debra Newell (Britton) off her feet and pulls her into his web of lies. The series chronicles the true story of how a romance with Meehan spiraled into secrets, denial and manipulation.

Garner and Temple will play the daughters of Debra Newell, who are both skeptical about their mother’s relationship with Meehan. Garner will play Terra Newell, and Temple is Veronica Newell. They join previously announced Jean Smart, who will play Debra’s mother Arlane.

Bravo gave “Dirty John” a two-season order in January. The scripted anthology series is based on the series of articles published by the Los Angeles Times’ last fall. Bana, in his U.S. television debut, will star as John Meehan, a handsome and romantic charmer who sweeps Debra Newell (Britton) off her feet and pulls her into his web of lies. The series chronicles the true story of how a romance with Meehan spiraled into secrets, denial and manipulation.

There’s more than a month to go before Mip-tv kicks off in Cannes, but folks are already getting into full market swing. To wit: FremantleMedia International says today that it has acquired global distribution rights (ex-u.S.) to CNN‘s 10-part docu-series The Sixties. The CNN Originals series explores the transformative decade, from Kennedy’s assassination, the Cold War and civil rights, to social change and the British invasion. It’s executive produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman (Playtone) and by Mark Herzog (Herzog & Company). The first episode debuted in the U.S. in November to mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK and was No. 1 among cable news programs in its slot. A second episode, The Sixties: The British Invasion, aired on CNN/U.S. in January. Those installments and the remaining episodes are due to pick up again Stateside in May.

Sundance just ended, and we are already preparing for the next big film festival, South By Southwest. Not too long ago, the festival announced a few of the films premiering this year, but now they’ve announced the main slate. The midnight selections and some inevitable late-breaking additions are still to be announced, but this should be more than enough to get you excited. Along with many World Premieres, and Sundance favorites like Richard Linklater’s Boyhood and Gareth Evans’ The Raid 2, the line up also includes an anniversary screening of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and an extended Q&A screening of The Grand Budapest Hotel with Wes Anderson. The 2014 program expands on SXSW tradition of embracing a range of genres and span of budgets, featuring a wealth of vision from experienced and developing filmmakers alike.

Listed in the announcement are 115 of the features that will screen over the course of nine days at SXSW 2014. The lineup below includes 68 films from first-time filmmakers, and consists of 76 World Premieres, 10 North American Premieres and 7 U.S. Premieres. After announcing earlier this month that Jon Favreau’s Chef and the Veronica Mars movie will be making their world debuts at SXSW this year, the festival has revealed its full line-up, including further very promising world premieres, alongside appearances from some of the year’s most high-profile films.

The Midnight programme will be announced early next month, along with the Shorts line-up, and the complete Conference slate a little later as well.

Led by Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, Nicholas Stoller’s anticipated R-rated comedy, Neighbors, will be making its world debut at the festival, notably marked out as a ‘work-in-progress’ ahead of its theatrical release in May.

David Gordon Green’s acclaimed Joe will make its Us premiere, having bowed at Venice and then Toronto last year. Early reviews have Nicolas Cage giving one of the finest performances of his career, with Tye Sheridan (Mud) excellent alongside him.

Not sure if there is a Short Term 12 equivalent in this year’s Narrative Feature Comp, but on paper SXSW programmers are serving up a mean (and the usual lean group of 8 out of a whopping 1,324 film entries) for the upcoming competitiuon of eight which includes notable entries (that we’ve been tracking for a good time now) such as Zachary Wigon’s The Heart Machine, John Magary’s The Mend, Leah Meyerhoff’s I Believe in Unicorns and Lawrence Michael Levine’s Wild Canaries. Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated docs of the year, on the non-fiction side we find Margaret Brown’s The Great Invisible. Below you’ll find a breakdown of the other sections (notable world preems in We’ll Never Have Paris and Faults (see Mary Elizabeth Winstead above), some Sundance items with Texan connections and other nuggets.
