    • Hilde Hildebrand was born on September 10, 1897 in Hanover, Germany. She was an actress, known for Enemy at the Gates (2001), Three Penny Opera (1963) and Bel Ami (1939). She died on April 28, 1976 in West Berlin, West Germany.

Trivia

  • Near the end of the war, while entertaining troops in the present-day Czech Republic, she was captured, imprisoned and mistreated by Russian troops.
  • Joined the Nazi Party in 1933, though this was thought to be for purely opportunistic reasons in order to keep working. She later became disenchanted with the regime and her career diminished accordingly.
  • German character comedienne and star of Berlin cabaret. Trained as a ballet dancer and from the age of sixteen a member of the ensemble of the Residenz Theater. Made her debut as a dramatic actress the following year. A leading performer in revues of the 1920's, she also appeared in silent films. She made her breakthrough after the arrival of sound, often featured in films which showcased her ability as a vocalist, or as shady ladies or wisecracking friends of the heroine.
  • When the talkies replaced the silent movies this marked also the turning point for Hilde Hildebrand's career. With her classic beauty and the touch of profligacy and chic appearance she became a busy actress in many movies of the 30's and 40's.
  • Hilde Hildebrand dissociated more and more from public life in her last years and finally died lonely in Grunewald.
