Sundance didn’t have the plethora of late night bidding wars we used to see in the good old days of the festival, but a number of buzziest titles are actually closing deals late into the spring and into the early summer. Over 60 films came into this year’s Sundance looking for homes, and slowly but surely a number of those are finding homes. As we previously reported, the hope was that even more distributors could get creative.
Below we’ll update all the acquisitions following the festival as they arrive.

Knife of Dreams, the 11th installment in The Wheel of Time series, is the last book penned by Robert Jordan before his death. It is a massively important volume to the series because it resolves several multi-book story arcs, and the overall tale can move into the final three books, which were penned by Brandon Sanderson.
This book may be the most significant one since the fourth book, The Shadow Rising, despite it only checking in briefly with important characters like Rand and Egwene. Extended storylines for Mat, Elayne, and Perrin are all resolved, allowing each to prepare for the Last Battle.
At nearly 900 pages, Knife of Dreams was also a much longer book than the three or four preceding it. A lot went on within the pages of this one, and it was great to see all of the stories moving forward.

Can Borys of Ebe Be The Real Villain Of Stranger Things Season 5? ( Photo Credit – Tina Rowden / Netflix )
Could Hawkins’ next villain have wings and breathe fire? Maybe! Fans of Stranger Things have been cooking up one wild theory for a long time, believing that Vecna isn’t the ultimate evil. Instead, the Upside Down may be hiding something even more terrifying, which could be a sorcerer-king dragon straight out of Dungeons & Dragons lore.
What Is Known About Borys Of Ebe Aka The Dragon?
Known in the D&d world as The Dragon or the Sorcerer King of Ur Draxa, Borys is a major force. He is powerful enough to rival even Tiamat, the goddess of all evil dragons (per Dark Sun Wiki). Now, according to an interesting theory, the real puppet master in Stranger Things isn’t Vecna, but the D&d monster named Borys of Ebe, aka The Dragon.

Wonder Woman is officially getting the reboot treatment soon after Superman jumpstarts the Dcu later this year. The pillar of DC Comics has been noticeably absent from the announced DC Studios movie slate, but it appears the Princess of Themyscira will make her way to the new cinematic universe.
DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn went to Threads to reply to a fan asking about Wonder Woman's status in the Dcu. While a film has not been announced yet, it appears that the iconic superhero is indeed getting a project in the rebooted cinematic universe. Gunn couldn't share exact details, but he revealed that there have been "encouraging" updates surrounding the unannounced project. As of this writing, the only known Wonder Woman-related project in the works is Paradise Lost, a prequel series set in Themyscira that won't actually feature Diana Prince. You can check out the Threads comment below.

Exclusive: Greenwich Entertainment has acquired North American rights to Omaha, the family drama starring Past Lives‘ John Magaro, which premiered to critical acclaim at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The film, marking the feature directorial debut of Cole Webley, will be released in theaters across the country later this year.
Set against the backdrop of the 2008 economic crisis, Omaha follows a struggling father (Magaro) who embarks on a road trip across the American West with his two children, Ella (Molly Belle Wright) and Charlie (Wyatt Solis), in search of hope and a better life. What begins as a seemingly spontaneous family journey gradually reveals deeper layers of both grief and resilience, as Ella starts to sense that her father’s intentions may be masking a more profound truth.
Written by Robert Machoian (The Killing of Two Lovers), Omaha is a Sanctuary Content production, in association with Kaleidoscope Pictures and Monarch Content.

At the very end of the first season of Game of Thrones, Daenerys Targaryen emerged from the remains of a smoldering fire reborn as the Mother of Dragons, with three baby fire-breathers cradled in her arms to prove it. Ever since then, dragons have been a big part of what makes Game of Thrones and its spinoffs appealing. We've seen big dragons, small dragons, nice dragons, mean dragons; we've seen dragons bond with their owners and tear each other apart. And the prequel series House of the Dragon stepped things up by including way more of the winged beasts than Game of Thrones ever did.
Sometime after the second season of House of the Dragon wrapped up, designer and creature enthusiast Mikel Rekondo posted a beautiful image on social media drawing every dragon we've seen or heard of on Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon so far; there's...

Warning! This article contains major Spoilers for George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood book, on which House of the Dragon is based!King Aegon II Targaryen wields the historic Targaryen sword Blackfyre in House of the Dragon, but that weapon mysteriously goes missing before Game of Thrones timeline. While the ancestral swords carried by members of House Targaryen in House of the Dragon play a convincing factor in the legitimacy of their claims, the two most prized ones, Blackfyre and Dark Sister, are both gone during Game of Thrones. One might assume that the fall of the Targaryen dynasty played a role in Blackfyre and Dark Sisters disappearances, but that might not be the exact case.
Daemons sword Dark Sister going missing is partially explained by its later wielder Brynden Rivers journey to becoming the Three-Eyed Raven around 100 years after House of the Dragon, with Aegons weapon becoming a mystery around 50 years before that.

Daenerys Targaryen is widely recognized as the Mother of Dragons in Game of Thrones since she has three fierce mythical beasts under her wings, but that title evoked a deeper, more significant meaning after the prequel series depicted the lives of her ancestors.

While the show only had one main Targaryen character to watch out for, House of the Dragon has a whole family and their kin, and a hoard of fire-breathing creatures in their pit. The prequel show was able to illustrate how Daenerys’ ancestors managed to tame and control their dragons as opposed to her journey in the original series.

Earlier this year, we got word that a new live-action take on the tale of Beowulf is in development with an all-star cast on board. We've seen a number of animated and live-action adaptations of the ancient Danish legend over the years, but this one will be a little different.
Based on John Gardner’s acclaimed novel, Grendel will tell the story from the perspective of the monster, with Jeff Bridges set to provide the voice of the title character, and Dave Bautista on board as the mighty warrior who comes to Danish King Hrothgar's hall to put an end to the creature's rampage, Beowulf.
Now, Collider has unveiled our first look at the design for Grendel courtesy of Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

Some photos of Milly Alcock in the crowd at the US Open have been shared online, and the House of the Dragon alum is sporting a very Supergirl-ish hairdo.
Alcock is naturally blonde, but her hair-style is lighter than usual here, and she definitely looks ready to take to the skies as the Dcu's Woman of Tomorrow in the photos below.
Alcock is believed to have filmed scenes for James Gunn's Superman, and is scheduled to begin shooting her solo movie early next year.

Sony proves with Astro Bot that the company can still put out charming action platformers, but the love letter to PlayStation fans fails to include features that made previous games of the genre so fun to replay. While PlayStation platforming or adventures first made a name for themselves with delightful games like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, several decades later, developer Team Asobi has recaptured the thrills those games provided, even if they are short-lived.
When the PS5 launched, it included a free game called Astro's Playroom. The short adventure worked as an effective tech demo, starring Astro, for the PS5's multifaceted (and heavily underutilized) DuelSense controller. It also provided a look back at previous PlayStation releases, including beloved characters and hardware of varying popularity.

Rhaenyra Targaryen's legacy lives on in descendant Daenerys, both being Targaryen ruling queens of Westeros. Daenerys' lineage traces back to Rhaenyra through a complex family tree involving generations of Targaryen rulers. House of the Dragon solidifies the connection by portraying Rhaenyra's dragon as the mother of Daenerys' dragon eggs.

This article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon and Game of ThronesRhaenyra Targaryen, one of the central characters in House of the Dragon, is related to Game of Thrones' Daenerys Targaryen, as one of her most controversial ancestors because of the Targaryen civil war, the Dance of Dragons. Although Rhaenyra Targaryen will die in House of the Dragon, her legacy lives on in her many descendants, including Daenerys, who was born almost 200 years later. During that time, the Targaryens endure war, tragedy, and peace, but Rhaenyra and Daenerys remain the only two Targaryen ruling queens Westeros has ever had.

The Green Men are an ancient order devoted to protecting a weirwood grove in the God's Eye an island near Harrenah that is arguably the most mysterious location in Westeros. The Green Men may have important knowledge of Westeros' history and could play a significant role in the future.

House of the Dragon's Lannister twins, played by Jefferson Hall, have unique appearances and personalities. Jefferson Hall portrayed Ser Hugh in Game of Thrones before taking on his dual role in House of the Dragon. Hall's multiple roles are not unprecedented in Game of Thrones, with other actors also playing multiple characters.
House of the Dragon has a new pair of Lannister twins, but the actor who plays them isnt new to the Game of Thrones franchise. House of the Dragon's Helaena Targaryen is the Bran Stark of the show, with strange, powerful visions connecting her to the past and future. Helaena's dreamer powers draw comparisons to Bran's greenseer abilities, adding depth to her character in season 2 of House of the Dragon. House of the Dragon needs to avoid making Helaena too detached like Bran to ensure her eventual impactful storyline unfolds effectively.
House of the Dragon's Bran Stark replacement has shocked me, as I was not expecting the show to go as deep as it did into weird, spiritual elements. House of the Dragon season 2's ending is receiving some criticism, and while I disagree with a lot of it, the second outing would have benefitted from 10 episodes. Regardless, the finale of season 2 introduced some intriguing elements tied to several members of House of the Dragon's cast.

As more dragonriders come out of the shadows on House of the Dragon, one Targaryen may bond with a wild dragon. Rhaena Targaryen is predicted to claim Sheepstealer in the Vale, diverting from her book's storyline of hatching a dragon. Rhaenyra Targaryen is a prominent character in the House of the Dragon series, which is a prequel to Game of Thrones. Rhaenyra has six children but loses two of them during her lifetime. Her first three children are rumored to be the offspring of Ser Harwin Strong rather than her husband, Laenor Velaryon.
The following contains spoilers for George R. R. Martin's Fire & Blood and House of the Dragon Season 2.
HBO's House of the Dragon has gone to great lengths to empower the women within its story, strengthening them even further by providing Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Queen Alicent Hightower with plenty of heirs to carry on the battle that's grown between them. While there was never any doubt that Alicent's children were fathered by King Viserys I, nearly everyone in the realm except the king acknowledged Rhaenyra's first three sons as bastards with no claim to the Iron Throne.

Quick Links House of the Dragon Revealed Where Daenerys' Dragon Eggs Came From Rhaenyra's Decision Saved the Seven Kingdoms House of the Dragon Also Introduced an Extra Egg The true origin of Daenerys' dragons has always been an ongoing question, as no one knows where the eggs came from. House of the Dragon finally introduced the secret behind Daenerys' dragon eggs. Without Rhaenyra's decision, Daenerys would never have returned to Westeros.
While its central focus has been on the Song of Ice and Fire, House of the Dragon continues to set up storylines that were only concluded in 2011's Game of Thrones. Daenerys Targaryen's rise to power began in season 1 after she raised three dragons out of petrified stone eggs. With Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion at her side, Daenerys conquered much of Essos and eventually came within a step of claiming Westeros' Iron Throne for herself.

Although their narratives are largely the same, the timeline of the Dance of the Dragons differs in House of the Dragon and Fire and Blood, the George R.R. Martin novel that it is based on. House of the Dragon has the Dance starting later than in the books, putting it around the year 132 AC. In addition, some character ages have been changed from what they were in the story.
These changes have a few benefits. For one, House of the Dragon's younger characters can have more time to mature and become competent enough for the war to come. Second, it allows characters to have different dynamics not explored in the books, such as the relationship between Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. Overall, the ages of House of the Dragon's cast allow them to play a cohesive role in the Dance of Dragons, solidifying it as an important part...

Alicent Hightower is one of House of the Dragon's most complex characters, and she'll only get more complex in Season 2. The final trailer for Season 2 hints that Alicent will attempt to make up for her past wrongs, while also pleasing her son, Aegon II. A redemption arc would be a massive change from the books depiction of Alicent, but it continues Season 1s portrayal of being a product of her circumstances.
The best characters on Game of Thrones are the ones that people feel the most conflicted about. Game of Thrones' Cersei Lannister had both supporters and haters, either rooting for her escape from a patriarchal zealous organization or throwing rocks at her for indirectly killing several characters. House of the Dragon's most complex character is Alicent Hightower, whom many people have actually compared to Cersei. One main difference Alicent has from Cersei, however, is that Alicent appears...

Dave Bautista and Jeff Bridges lead a stacked cast which will flip the Beowulf story and presumably also feature a puppet or two in the mix.
Here’s a fine story to kick off the week. The legendary Jim Henson Company is set to make Grendel, a live action version of Beowulf, the epic tale of heroes, monsters and the clashes between them.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Palisades Park Pictures is launching sales for the project at the upcoming Cannes marketplace. We’ve seen the tale of Beowulf rendered on the silver screen before of course, with Robert Zemeckis' 2007 version re-telling the Old English epic poem through the medium of computer animation.
Although that film is sometimes floated as an example in debates about the merits or shortcomings of CGI experimentation, it boasted an impressive cast that included Ray Winstone, Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, Robin Wright and Crispin Glover...

The story of Beowulf and Grendel is one of the most famous stories in English literature. The epic Beowulf is one of the most important works of English literature in general and it has been an inspiration for many authors over the centuries. We have also had numerous adaptations of the work, including the animated film from 2007, but all of them focused on the heroic tale of Beowulf, the hero of the story. But, the story also has another important character – Grendel – the monster and Beowulf’s rival in the story.
Grendel is finally going to get the chance to tell you his side of the story, as the movie Grendel will be released soon, with Palisades Park Pictures is launching international sales ahead of Cannes.

Quick Links What Led to Aegon's Conquest in George R. R. Martin's Books? How Aegon I Targaryen Invaded the Remaining Six Kingdoms The Impact of Aegon's Conquest on House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones

Though the monetary units of the Seven Kingdoms are coins known as “gold dragons,” everyone knows the real currency of Westeros is secrets. Gathering secret information and exploiting it for personal gain is how one can win the game of thrones…or even more importantly: avoid losing it.

The very next morning the Hand of the King Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) brings news of Daemon’s transgressions to his brother, King Viserys I (Paddy Considine).

The new Miyazaki. That’s a description I’ve heard applied to Mamoru Hosoda over and over, and it’s never sat well with me. Notwithstanding that Hosoda has expressed critical feelings about Miyazaki’s depiction of women, or my own apathy about Miyazaki’s films, Hosoda isn’t the new anybody, nor does he need to be. He’s the first Mamoru Hosoda, and across his six solo features, he’s established a strong authorial voice and, for my money, stands out as one of the best and most exciting filmmakers working today, and not just in animation.
Belle, like Hosoda’s previous films, takes a gigantic sci-fi concept and boils it down to a tiny personal story. The setting is contemporary, but the internet seems to be dominated by an app called U, a social network which, through body sharing technology (think a less gross take...

StudioCanal has picked up a pitch for "Dinosaur Project" (tentative title), which will begin filming later this month in South Africa with a budget of $16 million. The entire project came together in November, when Sid Bennet, Tom Pridham and producer Nick Hill met with StudioCanal executives with an idea about a father-and-son documentary team who discover dinosaurs in the African jungle. They had an outline, a showreel, a budget, a plan for the visual effects and a clear timetable to progress rapidly into production -- but no script. The studio immediately jumped on board. Pridham, who previously directed CGI-driven nature documentaries on the Discovery and Animal Planet channels, will direct. "It was a very gettable pitch -- what would happen if you went into the jungle and found dinosaurs?" said the studio. "What was different about Sid and Tom was that they had the experience, and already knew how to do it at a price,...

StudioCanal is moving forward on a thriller that's tentatively being referred to as the "Dinosaur Project." Creators Sid Bennett, Tom Pridham and Nick Hill pitched the company - with a nifty demo reel, apparently - on a single premise without knowing where the story would go. The gist? A father and son - out to make a documentary - discover dinos in Africa. So, StudioCanal teamed with Optimum Releasing. Bennett, Pridham and Hill - who have a background in Animal Planet and Discovery projects - sorted out the FX side and worked with Optimum to hash out the story beats. This all happened in a matter of weeks and now shooting this month in South Africa. I wonder if this will be the first "found footage" dinosaur flick...

The Dinosaur Project will follow the story of a father-son expedition in the Congo, being followed by a TV documentary crew. After all the parties mysteriously go missing, recovered footage shows stunning images of dinosaurs thought to be extinct for 65 million years.
Depending on the CG, this could be kind of cool. Thoughts?...

It had to happen sooner or later. With the success of cinéma-vérité style films like Troll Hunter and of course Paranormal Activity, it was only a matter of time before Earth's real monsters had a go of it!

The film marks the directorial debut feature from CGI experts Sid Bennett and Tom Pridham, who recently formed their own production company Kent Films. StudioCanal is handling world sales and will launch the project at the Efm.
