Instead of airing an actual teaser for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic Disney movie, the company aired a spot featuring Stitch causing mayhem on a football field.

Disney’s one of the major releases during its post-animation renaissance was the animated 2002 film, Lilo & Stitch. Filmmaker Chris Sanders conceived the idea for the genetically engineered alien creature Stitch in 1985. The film was a huge success and spawned several direct-to-video films and television series. In 2025, the popular franchise will be receiving a live-action/CGI adaptation.

Sanders will be returning to the film in a voice-acting capacity, alongside newcomer child artist Maia Kealoha. The film will be directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, known for his Oscar-nominated animated film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On.

The company just produced a funny teaser parodying another Disney classic, “The Lion King.” In the video, the mischievous alien Stitch tries to replicate the legendary scene where Simba is introduced to the animal kingdom. Stitch, dressed in pool floaties, is raised aloft in a lighthearted twist on the iconic Pride Rock moment. He swiftly escapes and jumps into the ocean below. This playful approach is reminiscent of the original film’s marketing campaign, which included similar spoofs.

The live-action rendition, set to open in theaters on May 23, 2025, will feature new and familiar faces. Maia Kealoha will debut as Lilo, with original voice actor Chris Sanders returning. Tia Carrere and Amy Hill will also reprise their roles in new capacities.

Exclusive: Actor and producer Daniel Dae Kim has come on board to executive produce Makawalu, a feature film initiated by Hawaii International Film Festival (Hiff), entirely created and to be co-directed by eight Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) filmmakers.

The project, the largest budgeted indie feature entirely created by Kanaka Maoli talent, is fully funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (Rwjf), the Asian American Foundation (Taaf), and Pacific Islanders in Communication (Pic). Bosch's new Rene Ballard spinoff has seemingly received an official title and logo in a new behind-the-scenes photo from series star Maggie Q. Q is set to be introduced as Ballard in the upcoming Bosch: Legacy season 3, which will see the detective step onscreen for the first time. The character comes from Michael Connellys book series of the same name, having crossed over with Bosch various times throughout the authors work. Amazon recently announced she would be getting a spinoff following her debut in the parent show.

Now, on Instagram, Q posted a photo on the set of the new Bosch spinoff series, alongside Mitzi Hartert-Roberts, the real-life detective who helped inspire Connelly to create Rene Ballard. The image also features set chairs with Ballard in all caps, seemingly confirming the show's name. The lettering is red except for the "LA" in the middle, which appears to be black and white.

Ever notice that there hasn’t been a live-action Dr. Seuss movie in more than 20 years? Sure, there are plenty of animated adaptations, but real actors making Seuss magic were officially forbidden by Audrey Geisel, the wife of the late Theodore, more popularly known as Dr. Seuss. Lilo & Stitch is coming back in 2025, and there are good reasons this is one Disney live-action adaptation we're looking forward to!

Disney has been on a tear in the last decade with live-action adaptations of past Disney animated films. While some may slam them as inferior compared to the originals, the box office successes of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid show there is an audience for them. True, some have been less than stellar (Pinocchio), and hopes for the upcoming Snow White are low, to say the least.

Yet Lilo & Stitch is different. The 2002 film was arguably the last great hand-drawn animated Disney film, grossing $273 million. It spawned its own cartoon series spin-off, the Stitch's Great Escape ride at Disney World and the character is still popular. So having it join the live-action trend seems inevitable and there's reasons to be excited for it.

When the live-action adaptation of ‘The Cat in the Hat’ premiered in November 2003, it primarily targeted late Millennials and early Gen Z viewers. As a young audience, they were mostly oblivious to the film’s many adult jokes. Instead, they delighted in the memorable musical numbers, the vibrant color palette of every scene, and the playful comedy. Now, 21 years later, that same audience has grown up and often remembers the movie as either a comical fever dream or a childhood nightmare. Magnum P.I. star Jay Hernandez opens up about the unplanned series finale, admitting that he does not like how the show ended. The reboot of the original Magnum P.I. starring Tom Selleck debuted in 2018, led by Hernandez in the titular role of Thomas Magnum. Perdita Weeks also starred as Juliet Higgins, along with Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Amy Hill, and Tim Kang. After five seasons and a total of 96 episodes, Magnum P.I. ended on January 3rd.

In a set of social posts, Hernandez responded to a direct mention that he should direct a follow-up Magnum P.I. movie.

NBC’s Magnum P.I. said goodbye tonight and series star Jay Hernandez is opening up about how he feels about the ending and whether or not there are talks of continuing the story.

“I actually floated the idea of a standalone film. I suppose it’s still possible. If I’m being totally honest I didn’t love the show ending how it did,” Hernandez told a fan via Twitter who said they’d have liked to have seen the show continue.

Magnum Pi is ending its run on NBC next week, and two cast members recently spoke about ending the reboot series. Showrunner Eric Guggenheim promised viewers earlier this year that the series would not end on a cliffhanger.

We now know when Magnum P.I. will officially end. A promo released this week revealed the drama series will return from its holiday break on January 3, and we’ve learned it will conclude with a two-episode series finale from 9-11 pm.

As we reported in June, NBC opted not to order additional episodes beyond the 20-episode fifth season picked up last year.

Starring Jay Hernandez, the reboot of the 1980s drama created by Donald P. Bellisario and Glen A. I have heard that making a non-ip show during covid that premieres during a double strike in the dead of summer was not ideal for viewership. Anna Drezen, the creator of Freeform’s animated series Praise Petey, has announced on social media that the cable network has canceled the show after one season.

“Sad to say Praise Petey will not be renewed at Freeform,” Drezen shared in an Instagram post. “I cannot believe we got to make this show. Best crew, best cast, top to bottom the dream of my life to make something this funny and unwell that went on actual television.”

The series premiered on Freeform on July 21 of this year and consisted of 10 episodes. Drezen acknowledged the difficulties in attracting viewers to a new show in the summer and during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
