3 Body Problem, Netflix’s epic sci-fi show based on the Remembrance of Earth's Past book series by Liu Cixin, is gearing up for its highly anticipated second season. The twisty series was created by Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff—along with Alexander Woo—in their first genre project together since their HBO smash hit. Needless to say, the pressure was certainly on to make this adaptation great.
Fortunately, the first season, released in March 2024, received generally positive reviews from critics and general audiences alike, and here at Winter is Coming, we very much enjoyed it. Now, Netflix has confirmed that production on season 2 has begun—but that’s not all.
Humanity’s going to need all the help they can get.

Donna and Harvey seemed destined to lock down Suits. All those knowing looks, the subtle brush of a hand, the history that pulsed between them from the pilot – they had “endgame” stamped on their foreheads well before the credits rolled. But let’s be real: the love story that actually nailed the real-life messiness wasn’t “Darvey’s”.
It was Louis Litt and Sheila Sazs. Their romance was jagged, funny, embarrassing, and raw in a way that felt way closer to life than TV perfection. The show wanted Darvey to be the formula, but Louis and Sheila slipped in as the real deal. Let’s dive deeper!

When it comes to Game of Thrones, there is no doubt that the source material — George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books — are better. They are packed with a lot more detail, character development, and intersecting arcs. The TV series tried, and for the first few seasons did a pretty good job of condensing all that materials, but there were some characters it did dirty.
Some of those were main characters who lost a lot in translation, and some were smaller characters whose stories had to be cut. These are the top six Game of Thrones book characters who were done dirty by the show, and if there was ever a reboot, the flaws would need to be fixed.

Emilia Clarke on Got’s infamous coffee incident(Photo Credit –Facebook)
It was one of the most bizarre and strangely hilarious moments in TV history. A show known for its epic fantasy world, elaborate costumes, and meticulous production let a modern-day coffee cup slip into the final cut. We’re talking about Game of Thrones and its infamous Season 8 coffee cup moment that broke the internet.
Back in 2019, just as fans were soaking in the final season of the HBO fantasy drama series, eagle-eyed viewers spotted something wildly out of place in episode 4: a Starbucks-style cup sitting right in front of Daenerys Targaryen during a feast scene in Winterfell. It was a momentary slip in the otherwise impeccable world of Westeros. From its first moments on Disney+, the four-episode Suspect transforms familiar true-crime tropes into a study of identity and institutional failure. Jeff Pope structures the narrative with precise economy: two episodes build toward the pivotal 22 July 2005 sequence, and the remaining installments trace the fallout like an inquiry unfolding in real time. This format echoes the discipline of parallel cinema in India, where stories of individual lives reflect broader social fractures.
Against the backdrop of the 7 July London attacks and the subsequent copycat bomb plot, the series anchors itself in the fate of Jean Charles de Menezes. A young Brazilian electrician, he emerges as an everyman caught in a tidal wave of fear and miscommunication. There’s no melodrama here—only the stark contrast between routine morning rituals and the rapid escalation within the surveillance unit.

Conleth Hill appeared on Game of Thrones for all eight of its seasons as Varys, the conniving spymaster who served no less than four monarchs in the time we knew him: King Robert, King Joffrey, King Tommen and Queen Daenerys. Varys appeared at first to be an unctuous toady, but over time we learned that was a front and that he did indeed care about the good of the realm. By the time he exited the show, it was as an iconic, layered supporting charactered.

Julian Glover is probably one of the only actors who asked to be killed off of "Game of Thrones." Glover admitted as much at Montreal Comic Con in 2018 (per ScreenHub), explaining that he wanted his Grand Maester Pycelle to bite the bullet before his season 6 demise. A vital character in George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice And Fire" series, on screen Pycelle became one of the most extraneous background players as the HBO adaptation wore on.
"I didn't want to do [season 6] because I realized I was being completely dismissed as a character," Glover told IGN ahead of the fantasy series' ending. Speaking of Lena Headey's character, he recalled: "Cersei ticked me off all the time, and I never had any comeback. So that wasn't any fun to play." If you had asked Kit Harington about the Jon Snow spin-off right around the time when Game of Thrones was ending, you would have heard a hard no. He didn’t have it in him to star in another Got-based content at the time and he made it clear during an interview with Rich Eisen.

The world of Westeros is full of intricate politics, with deeply complex characters running everything from the shadows. At the center of it all, were two men, who mastered the art of schemes and manipulation, and they drove the entire narrative of Game of Thrones.

Varys, the spymaster, and Petyr Baelish, referred to as Littlefinger, were both cunning and powerful men, who stayed at the top of their game. What made their dynamic so interesting was how they both knew of their deep rivalry and had a mutual understanding of the same. But as the series neared its end, the creators missed a golden opportunity.

With a contentious series finale, Game of Thrones seemed to have disappointed not only the fans but also some of the actors who dedicated their lives to their onscreen roles. Conleth Hill, the actor who played Lord Varys, was not completely satisfied with how his character departed from the series.

The Irish star confessed to taking Varys’ fate personally and, in some way, felt that he failed as an actor. It’s quite an interesting opinion from the show’s alum, and it’s also understandable because Varys is one of the most brilliant characters that never survived in the series.

This article contains spoilers for many major fantasy TV shows! For every unforgettable moment in a fantasy TV show, there are just as many controversial moments that push viewers to their breaking point. Even the most popular fantastical TV series in history have included scenes that were so polarizing that audiences stop watching the show altogether. Typically, these plot points revolve around the introduction or exit of characters, as this can dramatically alter the series' dynamic and be devastating to witness. TV deaths often spark outrage when viewers feel that the character didn't deserve to be killed off and still had more to contribute.
There are many fantasy TV scenes that make no sense, but this is more excusable, as the complex magic systems and world-building in speculative fiction shows can become confusing. However, when a series makes a concrete and avoidable choice that alienates audience members, it's much more difficult to accept this.

Fantasy is a versatile genre since the creation of new worlds and magic systems allows writers and creators to establish new rules and logic that suit the storyline. However, this doesn't mean that fantasy TV shows are immune from adding plot points that make no sense and don't help further the overall narrative. Many of these choices have to do with the character's choices being inconsistent or the series breaking its own rules about how the fantastical elements work. Since speculative fiction fans are willing to suspend their disbelief, these shows sometimes push the boundaries of logic too far.
There are plenty of fantasy movie scenes that make no sense, and TV series are just as susceptible to these mistakes. Often, these confusing moments happen because there are so many contradicting storylines or there's an external element that's out of the writers' control. To compensate for actors suddenly leaving or...

One of the biggest disappointments in Game of Thrones was how the showrunners omitted several interesting storylines from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, including Varys killing Kevan Lannister. The eunuch Master of Whisperers was not a very significant character as compared to the lead roles, but he had a very intriguing arc and it’s such a shame that they removed one of his best ones.

It’s always exciting when a TV show takes a massive risk that really pays off, but it can be insanely frustrating when these surprising writing decisions fall flat on their face. While huge twists, impulsive character decisions, or unusual storytelling choices can keep things interesting, they also have the potential to alienate audiences and lead to storylines that the writers opt to quietly discard rather than continue telling an unpopular plot. This has been a problem across comedy, drama, and even fantasy series that have tried something new with their storyline, only to have viewers flat-out reject the risk.
Many of the best TV shows of all time have taken massive risks, only for them to not work out and have to backtrack on their storylines. This has seen previously deceased characters inexplicably return to life, established backstories being badly rewritten, or even final seasons that ruined the legacy...

To be a Game of Thrones fan is masochistic work. Because with every day that passes, the chances of ever seeing George R.R. Martin's written conclusion to his A Song of Ice and Fire series get smaller and smaller. Sure, the HBO iteration did, well, something with the author's road map and over-arching story plan. But whether or not it was a satisfying, nuanced ending to the story is another thing entirely, and up for contentious debate among fans.
The prolific-yet-meandering author has long brushed off worries about his completion of his Westerosi story as overblown. But in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the author admits that maybe those fans are right — maybe he won't finish the book. After all, as he admits: "Unfortunately, I am 13 years late."

Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden is set to join a new gothic horror movie that will reunite two of Game of Thrones' biggest stars.
Per Deadline, Harden will join Sophie Turner and Kit Harington in a new horror film titled The Dreadful. The film also stars Laurence OFuarain (The Gentlemen) and Jonathan Howard (Thor: The Dark World). The film will reportedly be set during the War of the Roses, a period in which several civil wars were waged for control of the English throne. The Dreadful follows "Anne (Turner) and her sinister mother-in-law Morwen (Harden), who live a solitary, harsh life on the outskirts of society. But when a man (Harington) from their past returns, he sets off a sequence of horrifying events that become a turning point for Anne."

Sometimes, a television series delivers a shocking moment by killing off what may seem like a main character. While some of these may be done for shock value, sometimes, the show also needs to do it to push things forward. A major character's death has a significant impact on the plot. Ned Stark's death in the first season of Game of Thrones is a great example.
Not only does it start a war between the North and the South, but it also sets Game of Thrones in motion. Similarly, Lost too has a significant death early in the show that holds significance. However, like Ned Stark in Game of Thrones, television shows often choose a great or beloved character to maximize the impact of their death.

At the beginning of Game of Thrones, Ned Stark seemed like a major player.

The fantasy drama Game of Thrones is considered one of the best TV series of all time, despite its divisive finale. Following its success on HBO, the network continued to bet on George R.R. Martin's works, and, at one point, a spin-off series starring Kit Harington's Jon Snow was in the works.
The main series ended in 2019 after eight seasons, and a Jon Snow follow-up was considered. Its status remained uncertain since the announcement, but now HBO boss Casey Bloys confirmed the series has been shelved after actor Kit Harington echoed the same sentiment earlier this year. However, he gave a hopeful answer about the character's future, Deadline reports.

The rumors are true: a Game of Thrones movie is now in the planning stages at HBO. Original author George R.R. Martin's criticism about the spinoff series, House of the Dragon, has also been addressed.
Recently, it was reported that a Game of Thrones film was in early development. Per Variety, this report has been confirmed by HBO and Max chief Casey Bloys during a press event on Tuesday. While it was stressed that the project is still in its infancy and not yet officially greenlit, Bloys teased that Martin is directly involved with the creative process. As long as there's a screenplay that everyone is happy with, then production on the movie will be able to move forward.

Game of Thrones catapulted many young stars into mainstream popularity. Among the most beloved faces in George R.R. Martin's epic fantasy series was Maisie Williams, who rose to prominence for her portrayal of the fiercely independent Arya Stark. Towards the end of the series, she is seen bidding farewell to Jon Snow and on the docks of King's Landing before sailing to the west of Westeros. Now, Martins new update hints that this open-ended storyline could easily be twisted into a new beginning for Arya Stark.

Major television deaths are almost always sad, but they're especially devastating when viewers barely get to spend time with the character in question. While the death of a longtime favorite dramatically impacts the show and its audience, the demise of smaller players can hit just as hard.
This is especially true when they've made a good impression, igniting hopes that they'll take on a more prominent role in the story. In some cases, they're met with an early end instead, leaving viewers to wonder what their character arc could have looked like if they'd lasted longer than a handful of episodes.
Syrio Forel (Miltos Yerolemou) Game of Thrones (2011-2019)
Game of Thrones' Syrio Forel is the perfect example of a fan-favorite character who makes an impression in just a few episodes. Syrio is introduced in season 1's "Lord Snow," when Ned tasks him with training Arya in the art of swordplay.

It can be difficult to stand out in an ensemble cast as large as Game of Thrones. There are dozens of characters who each play essential roles in the story, and each requires multiple scenes to establish their importance to the universe. With even minor characters, like Lyanna Mormont, taking up space and the spotlight, the main stars could struggle to find a place to shine.
That does not mean that the main actors were deprived of screen time, however. Each had some time to showcase their characters' unique talents, characteristics, and motivations. The top stars, however, had hours to define their roles and establish themselves for an eager audience.

The fantasy genre shines on television, as the episodic nature of TV shows allows for plenty of time to focus on world-building and magic systems while still providing character development. However, all the moving parts and expectations surrounding fantasy TV series make it difficult for a show to hit the mark in every aspect of the story. Common issues arise with fantasy TV shows that continue for too long, running out of ideas and growing repetitive before the finale. In a perfect show, there can't be any major problems or too many moments that make viewers quit the series.
Many of the best fantasy TV shows of the 2020s are almost perfect and could prove themselves to be the best of the 21st century before their stories end. More often than not, great fantasy shows are based on books, giving the seasons structure and providing a strong storyline for the script.

While it might come as a shock, sometimes, actors root for their own characters to be written off of a show. The reasons can be as simple as that they are bored or that they find the experience too demanding. Sometimes, they receive a better offer and have to give up their current post. However, not everyone who wants their character dead has their wish to come true.
Sophie Turner famously didn't want her Game of Thrones character to survive the show, but fans would later learn that Sansa becomes one of the few survivors who thrive in the game for power. Similarly, many actors have very specific ideas for their characters to be killed off. Sometimes, the show honors their idea. Other times, they get a different, shocking death.

Being an actor certainly isn't an easy career path to take. There are many pitfalls and lots of financial difficulties, and in the end, plenty of people just give up altogether. There are countless talented actors out there who the world will never know about, simply because they had bad luck.
But others have just the right amount of luck. They can get right to the brink of failure and then suddenly be pulled back due to a TV show casting. And then, every once in a blue moon, that TV show turns into a phenomenon and makes an actor into a massive name.

Fantasy TV shows can change quickly, and when big plot twists and narrative changes are written into the story, they have a major impact. The magic systems and rules of the realities that these fantastical worlds exist in allow the writers and creators to experiment with story and character dynamics, leading to episodes that change everything for the series. These episodes typically incorporate a tone shift and switch the show's focus to a new set of character dynamics. Altering a series so drastically can either save and prolong its run or be the beginning of the end for the show.
The fantasy TV shows that deserved more seasons rarely get the chance to reinvent themselves and adapt to significant change. However, a long-running series must quickly adjust when actors decide to leave the show or a detailed story arc has reached its end. While it can be daunting to take...

When the dust finally settles on the fantasy phenomenon known as "Game of Thrones" and fans are able to look back without being clouded by emotion (along the lines of what's been happening recently with the 20th anniversary of "Lost" and its ongoing reappraisal), time may prove to be quite kind to the groundbreaking HBO series -- controversies and all. Some of those controversies have become an inextricable part of how we discuss and analyze the epic undertaking, like its iffy approach to depictions of sexual violence or the various ways the adaptation strayed from author George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. Others fall into a different and more nuanced category entirely, one that's worth dissecting even all these years later. In that light, a particularly odd scene from over a decade ago might be worth a second look.

Five years after its release, the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is still polarizing the fan base, but another Og star has weighed in to defend the controversial finale. Speaking to Screen Rant, Kristian Nairn reflected on the show's finale and revealed his supportive take on its ending. While the overwhelming majority of the fan base turned on Game of Thrones for making Daenerys a villain in the final episodes, Nairn saw it coming from a mile away,...

Quick Links How Did the Breakup Rumors Start? Jerome Flynn Insists There Was No Personal Drama
Considering how famously tumultuous the world of Westeros is, one ought to be surprised at how close the ensemble cast of Game of Thrones actually is in real life. Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams remain good friends to this day, as do Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey (Tyrion and Cersei Lannister). In one of the sweetest examples of life imitating art, Kit Harington and Rose Leslie, who breathed life into the doomed romance between Jon Snow and Yggrite, are happily married.
But maybe the shows second most notable on-set romance didnt prove quite as lucky. For years before Game of Thrones began, Lena Headey and Jerome Flynn (sellsword Bronn) were in an on-and-off-again romantic relationship until a particularly messy breakup in 2014. For years, rumors have run rampant that their falling out bled onto the...

Lisa McGee's runaway hit Derry Girls, which first premiered on Channel 4 before moving to Netflix, follows Northern Irish teenagers Erin Quinn (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), Orla McCool (Louisa Harland), Claire Devlin (Nicola Coughlan), and Michelle Malon (Jamie-Lee O'Donnell) and the "wee English fella" James Maguire (Dylan Llewellyn) as they navigate their teenage years in Derry, against the backdrop of the Troubles. The series, especially in its final season, featured a host of iconic cameos featuring but not limited to Fatboy Slim, Conleth Hill (of Game of Thrones fame), and even Chelsea Clinton. It was a surprise cameo in the Season 3 premiere that took the cake, however, as viewers were shocked to see none other than Liam Neeson appear as a Royal Ulster Constabulary officer.
