Pope Francis’ funeral will take place Saturday, April 26 in Italy, meaning it will be early in the morning for most wanting to watch from America. The pontiff’s passing on Easter Monday, April 21 followed a respiratory tract infection, for which he was hospitalized for five weeks in February. Complications arose as he was diagnosed with bilateral pnuemonia. The head of the Vatican’s Health Department, Dr. Andrea Arcangeli, confirmed that the religious leader died of a cerebral stroke that put him into a coma and led to heart failure.
The Pope died less than a full day after his visit with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. Guests at the funeral will include President Donald Trump, Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prince William who will go in place of his father King Charles. Charles met with the pontiff just days before his death as well.

Election Day is here, and the major news networks are prepared for a long night — and potentially a long week.
With over 50 million people early voting in the 2024 Presidential Election, Tuesday night will offer plenty of results to thumb through even if an ultimate winner isn’t called until later in the week, and most of the news networks will kick off their election night coverage at 6 p.m. Et, with CNN even starting at 12 a.m. Et while NBC News begins at 5 p.m. Et.
MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki will return to the Big Board — and will even be livestreamed on Peacock and other social platforms — while Fox News will see Bill Hemmer steering the “Bill”-board.
Most networks have scheduled eight hours of election night programming from 6 p.m. Et to 2 a.m. Et, with a result for the presidential showdown between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump not expected immediately.

Gayle King may not want to leave her day job anytime soon, based on her attempt to replicate a creepy look from a movie.
Earlier this week, Gayle joined CBS Morning co-anchors Vladimir Duthiers and Tony Dokoupil to interview actress Naomi Scott.
Scott stars in Smile 2, the sequel to the 2022 horror movie that premiered in theaters on Friday.
During the interview, Gayle praised Scott for her role as Princess Jasmine in the live-action remake of Aladdin and asked about her going “to the dark side” for her role in Smile 2.
Scott said she’s incredibly “proud” of the film and loves everyone who contributed to its creation.
“We put literal blood, sweat, and tears,” she said on CBS Mornings.
Gayle’s co-star remarked about her ‘cringing’ face
During the interview, Gayle King admitted that when she saw the movie, she had to watch a lot with her hands covering her eyes.

Gayle King has inked a new deal to remain on CBS Mornings, a source familiar with the matter tells The Hollywood Reporter.
Specific terms of the deal were not immediately available. King’s deal was said to be coming up in early 2025. She had most recently inked a deal in early 2022 to continue as co-anchor of the morning show.
King has been a staple at CBS Mornings for more than a decade, having helped launch the show in 2012, and has remained in place alongside a rotating slate of co-stars. She originally hosted the program (as CBS This Morning) alongside Charlie Rose and Erica Hill. Hill departed after less than a year (Norah O’Donnell succeeded her), and Rose was fired by CBS in 2017 amid harassment claims.
She currently co-hosts with Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson.

ABC News executive Barbara Fedida will not return to the Disney-owned unit following an investigation into allegations of insensitive behavior and her treatment of employees, according to a person familiar with the matter,
Staffers were notified of the matter Monday in a memo from Peter Rice, chairman of Walt Disney Television. “The investigation substantiated that Ms. Fedida did make some of the unacceptable racially insensitive comments attributed to her. It also substantiated that Ms. Fedida managed in a rough manner and, on occasion, used crass and inappropriate language,” Rice said. “Lastly, the investigation found no basis for the claims that Ms. Fedida was the subject of dozens of Hr complaints and that ABC News spent millions of dollars in confidential settlements related to Ms. Fedida, as alleged in some press accounts.”

“Sesame Street” and CNN aired a town hall Saturday morning to help kids and families understand the nationwide protests on racial injustice.
Hosted by CNN’s Van Jones and Erica Hill, “Coming Together: Standing Up to Racism” employed Elmo, Big Bird, Abby Cadabby and other “Sesame Street” favorites to help explain racism in the U.S. and answer important questions from children across the country.
“Not all streets are like Sesame Street,” Elmo’s dad, Louie, said when explaining the protests to Elmo. “On Sesame Street, we all love and respect one another. But across the country, people of color, especially in the Black community, are being treated unfairly because of how they look, their culture, race and who they are. What we are seeing is people saying ‘Enough is enough.’ They want to end racism.”

Did you put money on Oprah Winfrey pitching in on Gayle King’s debut as chief co-host of CBS This Morning on Monday? Congrats!
CBS News unveiled its latest iteration of its morning show, with King joined by co-hosts Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil. Among the news breaking to make the cut on Day 1: “Oprah’s After School Special” report on a high school that CBS News previously had highlighted, complete with a visit from King’s Bff.
The co-hosts also sat down with Ava DuVernay about her four-part Netflix series When They See Us, about the wrongful conviction of the Central Park Five, debuting Monday night.
“Tonight is your big premiere. We’re so glad you’re here in our first day,” King enthused, telling DuVernay that when she recently met the five men wrongfully convicted of raping a jogger in Central Park in 1989, “I…apologized, because I believed everything about that story.

A doctored video of President Donald Trump’s Tuesday night speech from the Oval Office that aired on a Fox affiliate in Seattle has led to the firing of the staffer who created it.
The video, aired on Seattle’s Q13, depicted the President sticking his tongue out languidly between sentences. Trump’s skin and hair were also color adjusted to look more orange.
During the speech, Trump briefly licked his lips before continuing to speak. In the altered video from Q13, it appears that Trump let his tongue hang out and rest on his lower lip for a long time.
The station did not identify the author of the altered video, but indicated it was an editor.
“This does not meet our editorial standards and we regret if it is seen as portraying the president in a negative light,” Q13 news director Erica Hill said in a statement issued today.

A local Fox affiliate in Washington State has fired an editor after the station determined they were responsible for airing a doctored clip of President Trump’s Oval Office address to the nation during a 10:00 p.m news broadcast on Tuesday.
“We’ve completed our investigation into this incident and determined that the actions were the result of an individual editor whose employment has been terminated,” Erica Hill, news director for Fox Q13, told TheWrap on Thursday in an email. “This does not meet our editorial standards and we regret if it is seen as portraying the president in a negative light.”
The doctored video of Trump which ran on the network over-saturated the president, making him look more orange than usual and was also altered to show him sticking out his tongue repeatedly for unusually long intervals between breaths.

“CBS This Morning,” which had showed signs of ratings resurgence under co-anchors Charlie Rose and Gayle King,” has collapsed in the year since Rose was ousted by CBS and PBS after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct.

GLAAD, the nation’s largest Lgbtq advocacy group, said it never intended for Kevin Hart to step down as host of the upcoming Oscars after homophobic social media postings resurfaced this week, but instead said the comic should have used the moment to raise awareness.
“Kevin Hart shouldn’t have stepped down; he should have stepped up,” GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement to TheWrap Friday. “Hart’s apology to Lgbtq people is an important step forward, but he missed a real opportunity to use his platform and the Oscars stage to build unity and awareness.”
Ellis said that the organization, which serves as an Lgbtq media watchdog, would “still welcome that conversation with him.”

Updated with GLAAD statement: GLAAD isn’t happy Kevin Hart is out as host of the Oscars, and its CEO took to CNN to say so this morning.
The Lgbtq advocacy organization’s CEO/president Sarah Kate Ellis said she was surprised at the outcome that saw Hart step down as host of the upcoming Oscarcast Thursday night, two days after confirming he’d been offered and accepted his dream job. The stepping down came after homophobic social media postings Hart made nearly a decade ago were resurrected and went viral.
“This wasn’t the conclusion I think everyone would have liked,” Ellis told CNN’s Erica Hill.

“The current cable news landscape is dominated by politics. Our live news shows have not benefited from this trend given our story mix,” CNN Evp/Hln overlord Ken Jautz told staff today in a memo, announcing Hln network’s latest Better Idea.
“In today’s news environment, every network has to focus on its strengths. To ensure Hln’s growth, we will shift some of our resources from live to longform programming and produce our live shows in as streamlined a manner as possible,” Jautz continued.
“The best way to do this is to centralize production of live news programming in Atlanta.”
Surviving the latest purge, Robin Meade’s Morning Express expands to gobble up 6 Am-noon Et.
Also taking on another hour is On the Story, which has followed Meade’s program and had been anchored by Erica Hill. It will now be anchored by a stable of hosts taking turns.

Hln, once known as CNN Headline News, will deliver fewer headlines as a result of the cable network’s latest programming shift.
Executives are pulling back on the news programming that has filled the outlet’s daytime schedule in a wide-scale retrenchment at the network, which is part of At&T’s CNN. Hln in recent years has stocked mornings, afternoons and early evenings with popular hosts like Ashleigh Banfield, Carol Costello and Michaela Pereira. All three will leave Hln as part of the reshuffling, which, according to a person familiar with the matter, will affect between 12 and 15 production and editorial positions in New York and Los Angeles. The bulk of production for Hln daytime will revert to CNN’s Atlanta facilities, where the network’s flagship “Morning Express with Robin Meade” is based.

Charlie Rose is out of a job and CBS News is down a household name — but the network seems more likely to absorb the fallout from the latest sexual harassment scandal to hit the media world. When the phone rings on a Sunday and it’s not even 9 Am, I leap up and brace for news that someone has died.
Luckily, when the phone rang this past Sunday that wasn’t the case. “Turn on the Today show right now!!” said my friend, Pennie.
Right there on a network news show (one that was on at the crack of dawn on a weekend) was a long segment about women and comics.
It was great, but I have issues.
Really, go watch the clip, and then we’ll talk.
First of all, huge props to the Marvel/Disney PR department for not only getting the story placed, but for making it all about Marvel. In my experience, many general-interest journalists conflate Marvel and all super-hero comics, and it seems that Marvel is just fine with that.
