Veteran British actor Harry Towb has died at the age of 83.

The star passed away at his home in London on Friday following a battle with cancer.

Towb began his career in theatre and went on to land roles in classic 1960s TV show The Avengers, sci-fi series Dr Who and films including The 39 Steps, Patton and Carry On at Your Convenience.

He most recently appeared in British soap opera EastEnders.

He is survived by his wife, actress Diana Hoddinott, children Emily, Daniel and Joshua, and three granddaughters.
