Top brass have announced 60 films culled from 8,061 submissions across four categories – Us and international narrative, documentary and animation.

“This year’s short film-makers have broken through their limited timeframe with a high level of artistry and story that will resonate with audiences long after each film has ended,” said senior programmer Mike Plante.

The Short Film programme is presented by YouTube.

Sundance 2015 is set to run in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah, from January 22 to February 1.

Bluecat Screenwriting Competition 2012 is calling for entries. The early deadline for submissions is August 1, 2011 while the late deadlines are October 15th ($60 entry fee) and November 15th ($65 entry fee).

The winning screenplay will receive  $10,000, with four finalists receiving $2,000 each. The best screenplay from the UK will be awarded the Cordelia Award and will receive $1,000. The best screenplay from outside the USA, Canada and the UK will be awarded the Joplin Award and will receive $1,000.

Every entrant will receive two written script analyses for each submission.

Every entrant who submits by August 1st is eligible for Bluecat Screenwriting Title contest, where three scripts will be awarded $250, as voted on by current BlueCat entrants.

One writer will be awarded a live, staged reading with professional local actors at Screenplay Live in Rochester, New York, as part of the 360|365 George Eastman House Film Festival. The prize includes travel, hotel and a $250 stipend.

Anyone who saw the Late Night Grindhouse screening of Hobo With A Shotgun at The Hi-Pointe Theater a couple of weeks ago saw the big-screen premiere of the trailer for Bloodfest Club that played before the feature. Bloodfest Club exists at this time only as a trailer, but the filmmakers are hoping the positive buzz the trailer is generating will help raise money to finance a feature-length version of the film. Bloodfest Club will be the second film from the writing team of Oscar Madrid and Jim Ousley. Gordy Hoffman

For all the aspiring screenplay writers in Tampa and St. Pete, who want a true critique of their work, the BlueCat workshop is a must attend.  On February 20th, one will have a chance to get expert feedback from award-winning writer/director Gordy Hoffman.  He won the prestigious Sundance award for his work on Love Liza.  He's also taught screenwriting at USC and has been apart of countless Hollywood productions as a writer.
