The kids are all grown up in The Thundermans Return, a revival movie that reunites the cast of the Nickelodeon series The Thundermans.

Created by Jed Spingarn, The Thundersmans was a superhero comedy series that followed the lives of the Thundermans, a superhero family doing their best to live normal lives in the city of Hiddenville. The show ran for four seasons from 2013 to 2018, at one point winning a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for Favorite TV Show. It has since been revealed that the family is back in the reunion movie The Thundermans Return, which is coming to Nickelodeon and Paramount+ in March 2024. At Ccxp in Brazil on Saturday, the first teaser trailer for The Thundermans Return was unveiled, and it has been made available to watch online by Nickelodeon on YouTube. Despite positive reviews and three Daytime Emmy Awards, Netflix decided not to renew "Julie and the Phantoms" for a second season, leaving fans disappointed. The first season ended with a cliffhanger, leaving many unanswered questions and indicating that the show was meant to continue with further storylines. The show's creators had plans for a second season, including exploring the ghosts' desire to share their music with the world, but unfortunately, those plans will never come to fruition due to the cancellation.

Though it was a vibrant and original addition to Netflix's massive library of shows, Julie and the Phantoms season 2 never materialized and the series was canceled after only one season. Kenny Ortega confirmed there are no immediate plans for Julie and the Phantoms to return to Netflix or anywhere else at this time, but the series executive producer teases, “never say never.”

Netflix has pulled the plug on comedy series “Julie and the Phantoms” after one season.

The well-received family friendly musical series revolved around a teenage singer played by Madison Reyes who winds up forming a band with the ghosts of three dead 1990s rockers.

“Julie and the Phantoms” dropped its nine-episode first season in September 2020. The series was a remake of a Brazilian property. Director-producer Kenny Ortega, of “High School Musical” fame, steered the series with showrunners and executive producers Daniel Cross and David Hoge. Other executive producers include George Salinas and Jaime Aymerich for Crossover Entertainment and Michel Tikhomiroff and Fabio Danesi for Mixer Entertainment.

Ortega confirmed news of the cancelation in an Instagram post.

“Our ‘Julie and the Phantoms’ family want to send our love and endless thanks to our Fantoms all over the world for the tremendous outpouring of love and support you have shown us since our premier.

Netflix has opted not to renew Julie and the Phantoms for a second season. Kenny Ortega, the musical dramedy’s executive producer, choreographer and director, announced the news on Instagram.

“We learned this week that Netflix will not be picking us up for another season,” he wrote next to photos from the set of the show. “Although our hearts are saddened, we move on with such pride for what we accomplished as a team and the family we built while creating Julie.” (See his full post below.)

Netflix has formed a multi-year overall deal with Kenny Ortega, the filmmaker, producer and choreographer known for the “High School Musical” franchise, the streamer announced Tuesday.

Netflix is fast tracking two new projects from Ortega, the first a film called “Auntie Claus” (working title) that he will direct and executive produce, and a series that he will executive produce called “Julie and the Phantoms.”

“Auntie Claus” is a musical based on the popular book series of the same name by Elise Primavera involving a young girl determined to get to the bottom of why her eccentric, Christmas-loving Aunt disappears every Christmas. It will be adapted by Tiffany Paulsen.

Kenny Ortega of the Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” franchise has just signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix. The pact with the producer, director, and choreographer continues Netflix’s aggressive push to lock down major talent as media giants such as the Walt Disney Company and Comcast prepare their own streaming services. In recent months, Netflix has signed deals with the likes of Ryan Murphy (“Glee”), Shonda Rhimes (“Scandal”), and Pixar vet Darla K. Anderson.

“As a fan of Netflix and their dynamic range of high quality content, I am thrilled to begin a creative relationship with the company,” Ortega said in a statement. “I’m super excited about the projects we already have in development and the shared enthusiasm I feel from the company. l look forward to this new Netflix collaboration with the highest hopes.”

Netflix unveiled two projects that Ortega will make for the company.

High School Musical franchise filmmaker Kenny Ortega has signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix with his first two projects being a feature musical adaptation of Elise Primavera’s book series Auntie Claus, and the original series Julie and the Phantoms.

Julie and the Phantoms, which Ortega will executive produce, is a musical comedy series based on an International Emmy Award-nominated Brazilian television series. Julie is a teenage girl who finds her passion for music and life with the help of a high-concept band of three teen boys (The Phantoms) who have been dead for 25 years. Julie, in turn, helps them become the band they were never able to be. Dan Cross and David Hoge will serve as showrunners and EPs on the series, with George Salinas and Jaime Aymerich of Crossover Entertainment, as well as Hugo Janeba and Joao Tikhmiroff of Mixer Entertainment. Jason La Padura and Natalie Hart (High School Musical and Descendants trilogies) are now casting the titular roles. Truman Alfaro will serve as Ortega’s development executive.

“Throughout the course of his career, Kenny Ortega has inspired generations of artists and audiences alike. That he has chosen to make Netflix his creative home to work on both feature films and series is thrilling. Ortega’s work as a producer, director and choreographer have earned him three Primetime Emmys: two for Outstanding Choreography and one in the Variety/Music/Comedy Program Directing category (Xix Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony). He is also a two-time DGA award winner in the Children’s Program section for High School Musical and Descendants. Ortega directed and choreographed international hits including the Descendants trilogy, Newsies, and Hocus Pocus, and choreographed classic films including Dirty Dancing, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Pretty in Pink, among others. When Disney’s High School Musical 3 made its jump from TV to the big screen, the feature surprised opening to $42M at the domestic B.O. and racking up close to $252M globally off an $11M budget. Ortega directed the Michael Jackson doc about the pop legend’s final concert, This Is It, which grossed over $261M at the worldwide box office.

Ortega is represented by Paradigm and Barry Littman at Hanson, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller and Gellman.

Dan Cross, David Hoge and Crossover are represented by Paradigm and Darren Trattner at Jackaway , Tyerman, Wertheimer, Austen, Mandelbaum Morris and Klein.

Nickelodeon is sticking with their family of superheroes. The cable channel has picked up a second season of The Thundermans for another 20 episodes.

Eight episodes of the current season have aired so far, leaving 12 to go. The next original installment airs Saturday, January 4th, at 9pm.

Exclusive: Disney Xd's breakout new live-action comedy series Pair of Kings has received a second-season pickup. Writers for the multi-camera comedy adventure series will reconvene after Thanksgiving to work on scripts, with production on the second season slated to begin in Hollywood in February. The series stars Mitchel Musso and Doc Shaw as fraternal twins who must relocate from their Chicago home to the island of Kinkow after they learn they are the rightful heirs to the throne of this odd kingdom. Since its September premiere, Pair of Kings has become Disney Xd's No.1 series across all key kid and boy demos, including Kids 6-14 and Boys 6-14. It ranks second in total viewers (684,000) behind veteran animated series Phineas and Ferb. Pair of Kings was created by Dan Cross and Dave Hoge who are executive producing with Matt Wickline.

Disney Xd is going royal with a series order for the live-action comedy pilot "Pair of Kings."

The series, which will start production in March for a fall premiere, stars "Hannah Montana" veteran Mitchel Musso and "House of Payne" regular Doc Shaw as 16-year-old fraternal twins (one white and one black). They are typical teenagers in Chicago raised by their aunt and uncle until they find out that they are heirs to the throne of the island of Kinkou; they relocate there to become kings.

Rounding out the cast are Geno Segers as the Royal Secretary, Kelsey Chow as his daughter and Ryan Ochoa as their disgruntled cousin and wannabe king.

"Kings" was created by Dan Cross and Dave Hoge of the Disney Xd flagship series "Aaron Stone." The two will executive produce with Matt Wickline ("The Hughleys").

The WB Network has greenlighted Bow, a half-hour pilot from Touchstone TV to star rapper-actor Bow Wow as himself. Erica Montolfo, Dan Cross and David Hoge (UPN's One on One), who penned the script, are exec producing with Bow Wow's managers Teresa Caldwell and Michael Mauldin. The pilot stems from Bow Wow's talent deal with the WB. Bow Wow toplined a comedy pilot for the WB, which was in contention for fall 2003.
