Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) and JJ (Casey Moss) both wondered where a missing Chad (Billy Flynn) was. When Felicity (Kennedy Garcia) told Chanel (Raven Bowens) her sister was missing, she brought her to the police station to report Cat (AnnaLynne McCord) missing. At the hospital, Julie and Marlena (Deidre Hall) discovered Chad and Cat were stuck in the elevator. When they were saved, Chad and Cat were found holding each other. Sami (Alison Sweeney) returned and reunited with Marlena. Sami shared her grief about John (the late Drake Hogestyn) with her mom, then she reunited with Johnny (Carson Boatman).

Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Episode #15176

Xander (Paul Telfer) dreamed about being back together with Sarah (Linsey Godfrey), then met with Gabi (Cherie Jimenez), who tried getting closer to him.

Days of Our Lives has been mourning the loss of John Black, while the cast has been mourning beloved star Drake Hogestyn. Fan favorite Alison Sweeney was unable to film for John’s funeral due to a scheduling conflict, so Sami missed the funeral.

Lucky for fans and Sweeney, the writers crafted a return that allowed Sami to remember him her own way. The storyline also gave Sweeney the chance to honor Hogestyn on-screen, and the result was soap gold.

A Rocky Relationship Remembered

Sami returned to Salem this week, showing Days fans a side of her we haven’t seen, especially when it came to John. Those two had a turbulent relationship at best. From the moment Sami saw John having sex with Marlena (Deidre Hall) on the Titan conference table, she was out to destroy him. Even though John was Marlena’s great love, Sami didn’t care.

And so did Sami Brady, who’s back to support her mom, who is going through an incredibly tough time mourning the loss of the love of her life. Sami Remembers John

We finally have Sami’s perspective on the loss of a hero, the man with whom she had such a complicated relationship. It felt like a missing element to the whole John’s Goodbye story arc.

When Sami last returned to Days of Our Lives, it was to console Johnny, who had learned of the awful thing his father, Ej, had done to his mom. She was able to console him and promptly left town again. Now she’s back because she hasn’t had a chance to pay her respects to John, who died a hero. Alison Sweeney spoke about Sami’s latest visit.

Silent Tears, Strong Ties

“I love Sami, I love Salem, I love everyone there,” Sweeney told TV Insider. “It is a second home to me. I can’t imagine not having it in my life.” She explained that she’s extremely thankful to have the show in her life, and was disappointed that she couldn’t return for John’s funeral. John’s portrayer, Drake Hogestyn, had passed away from pancreatic cancer in September 2024, so coming back was extremely important to her.

Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) will return to Days of our Lives on Monday, August 4, to spend time with Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) in the aftermath of John Black’s (Drake Hogestyn) death. For Sweeney, who was unable to make it back to set to film John’s memorial last fall, having the chance to honor the character and his portrayer on air is especially meaningful. “I was so devastated that my schedule didn’t allow me to film the funeral scenes for John Black with the rest of the cast,” she says. “But I had a great talk with [then-co-executive producer] Janet Spellman-Drucker, and she said she and the writers would figure something out for me to return as soon as I was able, which meant so much to me. I really wanted Sami to be a part of the story of saying goodbye to John, as well as being there to mourn with Marlena.

Days of our Lives continues to soar on Peacock after its move from NBC in 2022. With it doing well comes an announcement about the future of the hit soap opera. Days of our Lives will continue airing on Peacock for at least two more seasons, bringing it through Season 63. That is an impressive feat for a soap, especially after many were canceled and pulled off the air.

According to Deadline, Days of our Lives, the Peacock-exclusive soap, was greenlit for Seasons 62 and 63 with the renewal. Season 61 is airing, which means there is plenty more storytelling out of Salem to come. It has been a tough year for the cast and crew of Days of our Lives as they mourned the loss of star Drake Hogestyn, who played John Black, and before that, Bill Hayes, who played Doug Williams on the soap for decades.
