Anime is an ever-growing entertainment medium that will be around for a long time. It wasn't always like that, though, and when Japanese art was establishing itself in the Western side of the world back in the late 90s and early aughts, several niche titles ended up forgotten as the years passed. One of those titles is Ergo Proxy, a 2006 series that mixed a cyberpunk setting with philosophical elements, the same way that masterpieces like Blade Runner did. If you missed it or ever felt like owning it, you will be glad to know that Mvm announced this week that the cult classic is getting a Collector's Blu-ray Steelbook on September 29.
Ergo Proxy is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which humanity lives in domed cities due to the outside world becoming inhospitable after an ecological disaster. In that scenario, humans and androids coexist in a new system that utilizes robots for various purposes.

Love takes time and work. A lot of romance anime reflect this fact, often building up the romance between main characters over a long period of time so that it will lead to the payoff of them getting together at the end. While this long game can keep fans invested in seeing the characters finally confess their feelings, some anime have their characters take that plunge much earlier.
By having the romantic leads of a series get together near the beginning, the audience is able to witness continued character growth in the context of the relationship. This dynamic tends to get cut from anime that have the characters getting into a relationship as the end goal. However, in trading out some of the build-up time, there are plenty of series out there that give viewers an extended look at what the couple is like when they start dating.

The shojo anime genre has been around for decades and has provided fans with some of the best series. Fan favorites like Fruits Basket and Yona of the Dawn have led many viewers to try other shojo properties as well. Newer fans typically go for more recent anime, but some old gems are just as good (if not better) than a lot of the current shojo anime series.
The best older shojo anime give audiences a feeling of nostalgia, from more fantastical plotlines to an “exaggerated realism” animation style. They also portray a wider breadth of surprisingly empowering female characters for the time of their creation. Shojo anime nowadays are great, but these lost diamonds should not be kept in the dark, either.

2025 is a year full of anime anniversaries. Several beloved anime released in 2000 are now turning 25 this year, which is kind of hard to believe. So much time has passed since these beloved classics were first released, but at least streaming services make it easy to watch the anime fans had loved these past 25 years.
For fans who are feeling a wave of nostalgia, there's no time like the present to re-watch old favorites and treasure the memories of first seeing these anime series and films. These anime may be 25 years old now, but that doesn't mean they've lost their worth since they first aired. If anything, they've gotten better with time.

The captains and lieutenants are an iconic part of Bleach. They're striking pairs and an essential part of what makes the Soul Society arc so compelling. The way each of these pairs interact with each other shows off both the wide variety of personalities that fit into this anime and hints at how the different Court Guard Squads function. All of them serve different functions for Soul Society, and they're all at varying levels of strength. These characters and their relationships are given due consideration to make them dynamic and interesting.
Just because one captain and lieutenant duo may be the strongest or get along the best doesn't mean they work together the best. In matters of teamwork, each of these pairs prioritize different things. Plus, some of them just aren't very good at it. The individual value of characters also only makes them so impactful. Shojo is a unique anime demographic that caters to young female audiences. Unlike its counterpart, shonen, shojo focuses less on action or adventure and more on character-driven stories. Shojo are often rich with emotion and usually possess greater depth than the typical anime series. There’s a strong emphasis on interpersonal relationships that lead to some very dramatic story arcs.
The shojo demographic is well-known for its heightened drama that stirs the soul and tugs at the heartstrings. These thrilling stories tend to revolve around romance, friendship, and personal growth, though they can also get much darker at times. Shojo anime aren’t afraid to delve into some heavy subjects, and many don’t hold back on these topics. From tales of deceit to heartbreaking stories of abuse, shojo’s most dramatic series are some of the most impactful in all of anime.

The shojo anime demographic caters mainly to young female audiences, so its no surprise that most protagonists are female themselves. However, it isnt unheard of for a shojo series to star a male lead instead. Though these titles are often rare, there is a surprising amount of great shojo anime out there following a male protagonist. Many of these series never reach the same heights of popularity as the average female-lead shojo, meaning they often go unnoticed.
Male shojo leads can be very different from the classic heroines of the demographic. Their stories tend to center around a wide variety of topics, from classic romances to coming-of-age stories to action-packed adventures. As a result, these unique protagonists add their own flair to the demographic and appeal to audiences of all kinds.

The Code Geass franchise is filled with a cast of interesting and compelling characters who do a great job of supporting the intricately laid out plot in each anime series. While they can hardly rival the amount of thought and character development worked into main protagonists like Lelouch, Akito, and Roz, they still managed to leave their mark among Code Geass' slew of unique personalities.
From the original Lelouch of the Rebellion series to 2024's Roz of the Recapture, these characters carved their own plot within a complex story of war, human strife, and questionable moralities. They enrich the franchise by showing the scope of the consequences of needless conflict and supernatural abilities that are beyond one's own understanding. That, and they are simply a downright pleasure to see on-screen.

The Thousand-Year Blood War Arc has revitalized the Bleach franchise, and Part 3 is just around the corner. The arc has received a lot of praise for its animation and fight choreography, and Part 3 will feature even more fights with new abilities. Captain Commander Yamamoto and Captain Unohana both stood out in Part 1, and multiple Soul Reapers and Quincy took the spotlight in Part 2. In Part 3, several of Bleach's side characters will have their chance to shine.
These side characters will stand out due to their actions in battle, with some of their backstories also being explored. Many fans have waited over a decade for some of these side characters to have an iconic moment. It goes without saying that most of these side characters will be Soul Reapers, but a certain Sternritter and Arrancar will stand out as well.

It isn't odd for anime heroes to lose a fight or two. Normally, they'd wallow in sorrow for a while before training harder than they ever did in their lives just in time for the rematch. This, however, is not the case for these anime heroes. No matter how hard they tried, these anime heroes were doomed to lose in every fight they got into.
This doesn't mean that these heroes were weak or bad at their jobs. On their own, these anime heroes were strong and powerful. If they starred in any other anime, these heroes would easily overcome their enemies and dominate the battlefield. It just so happens that the odds were unfairly stacked against them in their anime of origin.

Fire Emblem fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about the recently-released Fire Emblem Engage. Not only is it the latest entry into the famous strategy franchise, but it’s really a return to form for Fire Emblem after the series experimented with a few different ideas. It also features a massive roster of characters voiced by some pretty notable actors.
Seriously, Engage’s voice cast is impressive. It’s one thing to boast a roster of named and notable characters quite so large, and it’s quite another to give most of those characters their own name and voice. While you may only recognize the names of a few Fire Emblem voice actors on paper, you’ll almost certainly recognize many of them the moment you hear them in-game.
So whether you can’t quite place why that name is so familiar, or you just want a little...

Mark Polish, the less prolific filmmaking twin of Michael Polish, has little nice to say about today’s youngsters in Murmur, which aims to be a Blair Witch for digital natives. Throwing a half-dozen annoying social-media producers into the forest with only their cell phones and a deeply dubious game they won’t stop playing, it might’ve looked like a cautionary fable if only it maintained any sort of distance from its protagonists. Instead, it’s wholly on board for screens-based storytelling and TikTok attention spans, the result being that most viewers not addicted to such stuff will find it insufferable from its first moments. Even setting such opinions aside, its value as an unscary horror pic is next to nil, and as screens-based mayhem goes, it ranks far below peers like Spree.

Today marks the official opening of the new Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg comedy "The Other Guys" at AMC Theatres everywhere!
Cop comedies area staple in Hollywood and for good reason. So with the film opening today I thought it would be a good opportunity for us to look back at some of my favorite all time cop comedies and share the with you here.
So let's dive into it:
#1 - Police Academy (1984)
Ok, just to be clear here I'm not talking about the 49 sequels that followed, but rather the original masterpiece that still makes me laugh to this day whenever I have the chance to see it:
"The city is in need of more police officers, so the mayor decides to alter the requirements for acceptance into the Police Academy. Among the new cadets is Moses Hightower, a gentle giant who was a florist. Leslie Barbara, who is tired of being picked on.
