The Actress Behind Star Trek's Captain Garrett Returned In Two Unrecognizable Roles
Image
Captain Rachel Garrett was the commanding officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise-c, a ship that infamously met a grisly fate. In the 1990 "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" -- often called one of the best episodes of the show -- the once-thought-destroyed Enterprise-c flew threw a time portal, landing itself 20 years in the future, smack in the middle of the 24th century timeline of "Next Generation." It seems, however, that when the Enterprise-c vanished from its timeline 20 years ago, it also exited a crucial battle with the Romulans. The ship's disappearance negatively changed the outcome of the battle and led to a decades-long war. The Enterprise-d of "Next Generation," thanks to causality, was instantly transformed into a stern warship, one of the last surviving fighting forces in a failing Federation military.

The situation was overseen by Captain Garrett, played by actress Tricia O'Neil. O'Neil played Garrett's part well,...

Star Trek's Temporal Cold War And Its Messy Behind-The-Scenes Origins Explained
Image
"Star Trek: Enterprise" was originally intended to be a lot more low-tech than it was. "Enterprise" is set roughly a century prior to the original "Star Trek," and show co-creator Brannon Braga initially conceived of a series that was a lot more earthbound. There were to be no transporters, no phasers, and -- perhaps most controversially -- no trekking. Braga wanted the bulk of the show's first season to take place entirely on Earth as the Enterprise is built and humanity prepares for its first extended mission into space. Paramount, however, didn't like Braga's ideas, feeling that the Enterprise needed to be launched in the pilot. Also transporters. Also phasers. Recognizable Trek iconography was required. Braga reached a compromise by including transporters, but stating that it was still a new technology unsafe for human use. And, yes, Enterprise officers carried phasers.

Paramount wasn't happy with just those cosmetic additions, however.

On the plane, Kate is seated next to a U.S. Marshall named Edward Mars (Fredric Lane) and it's clear that she's keeping a secret. She alludes to what happened while connecting with Jack Shepard (Matthew Fox) in season 1, and in season 2, episode 9, "What Kate Did," Kate's crime becomes evident through flashbacks.

Kevin Conroy, Susan Eisenberg, and George Newbern in Justice League (2001)
Comic-Con: 'Batman Vs. Robin' and 'Justice League: Gods and Monsters' Animated Movies Coming
Kevin Conroy, Susan Eisenberg, and George Newbern in Justice League (2001)
Earlier tonight, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment held a panel and a world premiere screening for their upcoming animated adventure Batman: Assault on Arkham at Comic-Con. During the panel, the studio announced the new titles that will debut in 2015, Batman Vs. Robin and Justice League: Gods and Monsters.

Bruce W. Timm will return to direct Batman Vs. Robin, which will also feature the Court of Owls. While no story details were given, it's believed that this will be an origin story featuring Talon and the Court of Owls, possibly adapted straight from Scott Snyder's comic book. In Court of Owls, Batman and Robin don't actually square off against one another, although there is a bit of tension between the duo and Nightwing. It's believed that this may also be a completely original story based on those characters, but that has not been confirmed.

The second movie is Justice League: Gods and Monsters,...

An Incredibly Early Piece of Promo Art for Michael Bays Transformers 4
The Hasbro/Bay machine keeps on rolling as the first teaser art for 2014's 'Transformers 4' is revealed by the folks over at Cine1. Sadly we shouldn't probably expect any of the major players, such as Shia LeBeouf, from the previous sequels to make an appearance in the fourth installment. To be honest the only thing that made 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' bearable was the inclusion of Brit model turned actress and all round eye-candy Rosie Huntington-Whiteley -below ('Mad Max: Fury Road') and even she won't be involved this time around. Bay with once again helm and from a script penned by Ehren Kruger. The voice talent of Brad Garrett ('Finding Nemo'), Frank Welker, Miguel Ferrer ('RoboCop'), Jeffrey Combs ('The Frighteners'), Mark Rolston, Brian Bloom, James Avery, Nick Chinlund, Kevin Grevioux, James Horan, Chris Cox are already lined up.

Dying God (2008)
Directed by: Fabrice Lambot

Written by: Jean Depelley, Fabrice Lambot, Nicanor Loreti, German Val

Cast: James Horan, Lance Henriksen, Erin Brown, Agathe de La Boulaye

Being a film reviewer sounds like a pretty sweet deal. People send you free movies! How awesome is that? But for every one good film, there are five stinkers you have to sit through and then write about. That's a brutal ratio if you think about it. You watch a lot of god-awful flicks, and if you do this long enough, you start to realize that not all bad movies are created equal. Some movies are just bad. Some are so bad they're good. And some are bad, but in an interesting way. Into this last category falls director Fabrice Lambot's 2008 flick, Dying God.

Dying God is a crime story with supernatural elements. Sean Fallon (James Horan) is a totally corrupt, alcoholic police detective.

"Dogtooth," "Enter the Void" and a Week of DVDs on the Edge
"Dogtooth" (2009)

Directed by Giorgos Lanthimos

Released by Kino

"Enter the Void" (2010)

Directed by Gaspar Noé

Released by Mpi Home Video

Somehow it's fitting that two of last year's most dangerous films will be hitting DVD shelves the same week, both being favorites of the IFC.com staff. "Dogtooth," Lanthimos' much-debated Un Certain Regard winner from Cannes, concerns the lives of three culturally isolated children -- two daughters and a son, who range from mid-teens to early 20s -- fenced in by their parents' country home, who receive a reeducation when their lone connection to the outside world, a female security guard for their parents' business, introduces them to the joys of sex and Sylvester Stallone films. Meanwhile, "Irreversible" provocateur Noé's latest is a wildly ambitious 155-minute extravaganza set inside the mind of a drug dealer told from the first-person perspective. Nathaniel Brown and "Boardwalk Empire" star Paz de la Huerta...
