King Aegon II Actor Tom Glynn-Carney Explains Big 'House of the Dragon' Season 3 Tease
Image
House of the Dragon star Tom Glynn-Carney, the actor who gives life to Aegon the usurper, aka King Aegon II, has revealed a few details about what fans can expect from his character in Season 3 of the Game of Thrones prequel series. While he remained vague about the finer details of what could happen to Aegon, the actor teased some changes for the character, who didn't actually have a great time during the Dance of Dragons.

Season 2 of House of the Dragon ended a few months ago, and to call its ending a cliffhanger is an understatement. The shift in terms of character is inevitable for Aegon. He's now a victim of his greed and his lack of skills. In Season 2, he had to get some respect. Season 3 will see him trying to simply survive as everyone in the Targaryen clan, the one in King's Landing, sees Aemond as the new leader.

This House Of The Dragon Actor Was The Secret Star Of 2024
Image
A House of the Dragon actor was secretly one of the most important stars of 2024. House of the Dragon season 2's ending had a mixed reception due to the season concluding before the much-anticipated Battle of the Gullet could take place. Nevertheless, House of the Dragon season 2 still proved to be one of the best shows of 2024, with Emma D'Arcy, Matt Smith, Ewan Mitchell, and the rest of the House of the Dragon cast all delivering exceptional performances.

House of the Dragon is joined by Netflix's prematurely canceled Kaos as one of the best shows of 2024, with one actor playing an important and arguably overlooked role in both series. This same actor was also in one of 2024's best movies, A Real Pain, which focused on two cousins, played by Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin, who toured Poland to better understand their late grandmother's roots and her experiences during the Holocaust.

Was 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Snubbed at the Golden Globes?
Image
Quick Links The Sophomore Slump Hurt 'House of the Dragon' Do the Golden Globes Matter for 'House of the Dragon?'

It hasn’t exactly been a good week for fans of Westeros. A few days ago, George R.R. Martin seemingly confirmed a fear fans have had for years now: it’s unlikely that he’ll ever finish the last two books of A Song of Ice and Fire. But an even bigger surprise came during the Golden Globe nominations, which House of the Dragon had handily dominated two years before. Despite mixed reviews for its sophomore season, critical reception has never stopped any Westeros-set series from having guild support. Even the maligned final season of Game of Thrones got (at the time) a record number of Emmy nominations and won Best Drama Series.

Instead, House of the Dragon only earned a single Golden Globes nod for...

Image
As the fantasy TV show landscape grows larger and more impressive every year, older shows must conclude and make way for new projects entering the sphere. Plenty of long-running shows currently on the air are not only exiting gracefully but are completing their planned arcs. By having a confirmed end date, these shows get to carefully orchestrate a conclusion that will successfully bring the character development and story full circle, which always satisfies fans. As difficult as it is to say goodbye to such high-quality shows, it's good to know they won't suddenly be canceled at their peak.

There's hope that these series will join the ranks of fantasy TV shows with almost perfect endings since having a definitive conclusion is often better than going on for too long. When a fantasy TV show continues for too many seasons, it taints the legacy of the series, making the case that...

HBO Boss Reacts to George R. R. Martin's House of the Dragon Complaints
Image
George R.R Martin's complaints about the television adaptation of House of the Dragon caught the attention of HBO execs. While his grievances have not been addressed directly, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, recently touched on the topic.

Martin's comments came up when Deadline asked Bloys to share his thoughts about House of the Dragon's Emmy Award chances since Season 2 divided some fans. "Well, I'm not sure that the fans were divided over Season 2," the HBO exec said before the publication mentioned the acclaimed author by name. "Yes, maybe one fan was. But no, the show did really, really well. I expect that will be in competition," he added.

George R.R. Martin 'Spoils' Major Character Death for House of the Dragon Season 3
Image
This article contains Potential Heavy Spoilers for an upcoming season of House of the Dragon.

Fans praised House of the Dragon even if it changed storylines in the source material. George R.R. Martin revealed a key character from his novel will never be introduced in the TV show.

George R.R. Martin asserted (in a now-deleted blog post) that Maelor Targaryen will be written off of House of the Dragon. Martin also revealed how the character's arc was supposed to be depicted in the show, which since Season 1 has proven capable of crossing moral taboos. "If you have never read Fire & Blood, maybe it does not matter, because all I am going to 'spoil' here are things that happen in the book that may Never happen on the series," he wrote. "Starting with Maelor himself. Sometime between the initial decision to remove Maelor, a big change was made. The prince's...

'I Hated to Lose That': George R.R. Martin Criticizes House of the Dragon's Blood and Cheese Changes
Image
George R.R Marin has been pretty vocal about what he loved about House of the Dragon. However, the acclaimed author recently took issue with how the series portrayed Blood and Cheese and the death of Prince Jaehaerys.

"I still believe the scene in the book is stronger," Martin wrote in a Sept. 4 post on his Not a Blog website. "The readers have the right of that. The two killers are crueler in the book. I thought the actors who played the killers on the show were excellent. But the characters are crueler, harder, and more frightening in Fire & Blood. In the show, Blood is a gold cloak. In the book, he is a former gold cloak, stripped of his office for beating a woman to death. Book Blood is the sort of man who might think making a woman choose which of her sons should die is amusing, especially...

House Of The Dragon Art Imagines If Alicent's Children All Shared Her Hair Color Instead Of Targaryen Blonde
Image
Hair color is crucial in Game of Thrones, acting as an important identifier among noble houses in Westeros. House of the Dragon continues to explore the significance of hair color, shaping characters' identities and secrets. In the fantasy world, hair color plays a key role in differentiating legitimate heirs, bastards, and hiding true identities.

House of the Dragon art imagines if Alicent's children shared her hair color instead of having Targaryen blonde. Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the prequel series chronicles the devastating Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Early on, one of the key characters in this conflict is Alicent Hightower, played by Emily Carey and Olivia Cooke, who marries King Viserys and gives birth to four children Aegon, Aemond, Helaena, and Daeron the last of which has yet be seen on screen.

'I Just Can't Watch It': Game of Thrones Star Kit Harington Hasn't Seen House of the Dragon
Image
Kit Harington made his name starring as Jon Snow in HBO's Game of Thrones for all eight seasons, a series that ran from that long-ago year of 2011 through 2019. But by all lights, that's a lot of time spent in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, and just as recently, in an interview with the Associated Press, Harington confessed that the one thing he can't do is watch Thrones' prequel series, House of the Dragon, currently wrapping up its second season. It has already been renewed for Season 3, and plans are afoot for a fourth and final one.

"I just can't watch it," said Harington, speaking of House of the Dragon after his own turn on Thrones. "For me, it's just I've spent too long there. And I wish them all the best. I hear it's wonderful and going really well, but I don't think I'll ever watch that show. And I...

House Of The Dragon Season 2 Finale Cameo Explained By Showrunner
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for House of the Dragon season 2, episode 8.

House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal explains that key season 2 finale cameo. After debuting earlier this summer, the sophomore outing of the hit Game of Thrones spinoff came to an end this past Sunday, teeing up an explosive season 3. The House of the Dragon season 2 finale features a handful of surprising moments and developments, one of the most interesting being a brief cameo by Daenerys Targaryen herself (though not played by Emilia Clarke), as Daemon (Matt Smith) sees Aegon the Conqueror's prophecy in a vision.

During a Q&a Zoom session with reporters on Monday, as shared by EW, Condal is asked about Daemon's vision in the House of the Dragon season 2 finale and whether the inclusion of Daenerys instead of Jon Snow confirms that she is the "Prince That Was Promised." According to Condal, the character's inclusion is...

House Of The Dragon Season 2, Episode 8 Review: A Fantastic & Frustrating Finale Sets Up Season 3
Image
Warning: Contains major Spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2's finale.

Rhaenyra's dynamic scenes with both Daemon and Alicent are captivating and skillfully acted by D'Arcy and Cooke. King Aegon II Targaryen and Larys Strong's political machinations make for compelling viewing, reminiscent of Game of Thrones. The finale sets up season 3 well, with high-quality production values and an epic score from Ramin Djawadi, but some franchise connections feel forced.

House of the Dragon season 2, episode 8 brings the show's sophomore outing to a close, with a finale that's often great, but also frustrating in parts. There's a lot to get through in the finale, which reunites Rhaenyra Targaryen with both Daemon Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, sees King Aegon II Targaryen smuggled out of King's Landing by Larys Strong, and multiple visions that portend a lot of doom. It has to wrap-up some season-long arcs while also setting up House of the Dragon season 3 and,...

House Of The Dragon Season 2, Episode 7 Review: The Dragonseeds Story Delights As The Finale Approaches
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2, episode 7.

The dragonseeds storyline excels in showcasing the dragons and complex character dynamics. Emma D'Arcy and Harry Collett provide a human emotional core to the story on Dragonstone. Daemon's storyline with the Riverlords finally gets the necessary payoff, while Alicent's lake scene is a standout moment.

House of the Dragon season 2, episode 7 is one of the strongest installments of the season, and offers a sense of momentum heading into the end of the season. With the exception of episode 4, the Dance of the Dragons has been a slow burn in the Game of Thrones prequel's sophomore outing, with the show content to gradually build up its storylines and character arcs (and that's not a complaint). Season 2, episode 7, which is mostly centered around the claiming of dragons, sparks things into life, setting the stage for a fiery finale.

Ewan Mitchell Names Iconic Gangster Characters as Inspirations for Aemond Targaryen

Aemond Targaryen is one of House of the Dragons most complex, compelling, and conniving characters. Actor Ewan Mitchell has spoken about taking inspiration from Heat, particularly Robert De Niros character, as well as employing some of the techniques that James Gandolfini used on the set of The Sopranos.

In an episode of Vanity Fairs podcast Still Watching, Mitchell opened up about Aemonds motivations, twisted as they may be, and how he manages to portray a character so unlike himself. The actor began by explaining that Aemond has a strong attention-seeking drive, saying, "Aemond never really felt unconditional love growing up. He was the spare son, although he felt like he should have been treated as the first. He was bullied relentlessly by his nephews, his brother acting as ringleader. So Aemond very much wanted to find his place in the world. The thing is, if a child isnt embraced by the village,...

House Of The Dragon Season 2, Episode 6 Review: A Strong Team Green Episode As King's Landing Drama Excels
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2, episode 6.

King's Landing drama shines in House of the Dragon season 2, episode 6, with engaging character interactions and a powerful depiction of smallfolk struggles. Paddy Considine's return as Viserys adds depth to Daemon's arc, bringing closure to his visions. Some Team Black storylines lack impact, with repetitive scenes and an underdeveloped Vale storyline.

House of the Dragon season 2, episode 6 continues the fallout from Rooks Rest and the gradual build to the finale with another solid, if unspectacular, outing. The Game of Thrones prequel has settled back into the same slower, early season rhythm it had before the Dance of the Dragons exploded into life in episode 4, but thats not a bad thing. Theres some intriguing setup and strong character development in Kings Landing, Harrenhal, and on Dragonstone, although not everything works.

House Of The Dragon Season 2, Episode 5 Review: Matt Smith's Daemon Shines Amid The Drama After Major Deaths

Matt Smith shines as Daemon Targaryen in a standout episode for his character. Harrenhal remains eerie and captivating, adding depth to the narrative. The drama in King's Landing, particularly with the smallfolk, is engaging and sets up future conflicts.

As the dust and ash from the Battle at Rook's Rest settles, House of the Dragon season 2, episode 5 is a quieter installment, but also an important one. The Dance of the Dragons has fully started now after the events of episode 4, but this is a chance for both sides of the civil war to assess their wounds and regroup. House of the Dragon Director Confirms Daenerys Targaryen Connection

House of the Dragon has been off to a stellar start in the first three episodes of their sophomore season, the last of which sees Rhaenyra send her children and some dragon eggs away to The Vale under the care of Rhaena Targaryen. House of the Dragon season 2, episode 4 marks the start of the real war with an epic, dragon-filled battle at Rook's Rest. The episode features incredible dragon sequences and strong character moments, setting the stage for future showdowns. The Battle at Rook's Rest rivals Game of Thrones' most iconic battles, with a blend of epic scale and character-driven storytelling.

House of the Dragon season 2, episode 4 is a brilliant installment that evokes Game of Thrones at its most spectacular. The prequel has been smoking for a while now, threatening to catch fire but never quite doing so. Season 2 of House of the Dragon is only three episodes in, and the show has already shocked audiences with a brutal death scene. Jaehaerys murder in Episode 1 is fair game in a franchise known for pointless killings, but that scene only proves nothing is taboo for the series. Fans half-expected Daemon would be overcome by guilt since he ordered the botched hit on Aemond; this was confirmed in Episode 3 with a palpable vision and an omen of impending death. In an interview with Screen Rant, episode director Geet Vasant Patel breaks down Daemon's dream and his brief encounter with Milly Alcock's Rhaenyra Targaryen.

House Of The Dragon Season 2, Episode 3 Review: HBO's Prequel Gets Back To What Made Season 1 Great
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2, episode 3.

House of the Dragon season 2, episode 3 is the best episode so far in the prequel's sophomore run. Olivia Cooke & Emma D'Arcy's chemistry brings life to their scenes, and Daemon's storyline shines too. The Battle of the Burning Mill's omission is the episode's main drawback.

House of the Dragon season 2, episode 3 is the best episode of the season so far, and advances the Targaryen civil war in some great and surprising ways. The season has been solid but unspectacular so far, which is absolutely fine: it's gradually building to the Dance of the Dragons properly beginning, and good character work provides a solid foundation for that.

Season 2, episode 3 is nonetheless a step-up - things might not be truly aflame, but the match has been struck. It's an outing that brings back some of the best parts of season 1, and leaves...

Star Wars & Game Of Thrones Just Did The Exact Same Twist In The Same Week
Image
Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Acolyte and House of the Dragon.

The Acolyte episode 5 ends with Mae switching places with Osha due to their identical appearance as twins. House of the Dragon season 2, episode 2 ended with a similar twist only two days before The Acolyte, when Arryk Cargyll infiltrated a castle under the guise of his twin brother, Erryk. Both shows teased the twin twists before they happened, making it even more coincidental that they paid off in the same week.

One twist in The Acolyte episode 5 centered around twins Osha and Mae, with this exact twist being used in the same week by Game of Thrones' spin-off, House of the Dragon. After the ending of The Acolyte episode 4, a big focus of The Acolyte episode 5's story centered on the clash between the Jedi and the mysterious Sith warrior who has been puppeteering the events of the series.

House Of The Dragon Season 2, Episode 2 Review: Blood & Cheese's Aftermath Drives A Solid Outing
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2, episode 2.

The fallout from Blood and Cheese drives compelling character arcs in House of the Dragon season 2, episode 2. The second episode features strong performances by Tom Glynn-Carney, Phia Saban, and Rhys Ifans. The Cargyll twins' duel is pretty good, but is not as memorable as other Game of Thrones swordfights.

House of the Dragon season 2, episode 2 is another solid installment of the Game of Thrones prequel, as the Dance of the Dragons edges closer to truly catching fire. The second episode picks up directly from Blood and Cheese killing Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen, and its the fallout from it that drives the story and character arcs at play here. It results in conflicts on both sides of the Greens/Blacks divide, some of which are better than others.

'It Was Messy as F***': House of the Dragon Star Describes Her Deleted Intimate Scene
Image
This article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 2.

House of the Dragon takes after Game of Thrones with its graphic depictions of sex and nudity. Actor Olivia Cooke expected as much for her character Alicent Hightower but was surprised when the show discarded her raunchy bedroom scene.

Olivia Cooke teased that Alicent Hightower had a bedroom scene that was almost included in Season 2 of House of the Dragon. The actor did not dish out the details in an interview with Elle, but she did confirm the sequence was nothing short of nasty. "It was messy as f---," she said. "It wasn't beautiful, and that was really fun to do." The "carnal" and "animalistic" bedroom scene was scrapped because showrunner Ryan Condal thought "we weren't learning any more about the characters." Still, those up to speed with Season 2 already know that Alicent has full-on succumbed to her carnal impulses.

One Of Game Of Thrones' Biggest Daenerys Targaryen Plot Holes Just Got Even Worse
Image
House of the Dragon season 2 intensifies a Daenerys plot hole from Game of Thrones. Cregan Stark tells the story of King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne's dragons refusing to fly beyond the Wall, but it's not explained why they wouldn't (or couldn't) when Daenerys flew her dragons North of it in Game of Thrones. It's possible this is related to the magic of the Wall or the threat of the White Walkers, but it's largely unexplained right now.

House of the Dragon season 2, episode 1 makes one Daenerys Targaryen plot hole from Game of Thrones a lot worse. For the most part, House of the Dragons timeline means it doesnt have too much of an impact on its predecessor, since this is all happening 170+ years earlier. There are some exceptions, however, such as Aegon the Conqueror's A Song of Ice and Fire recontextualizing the White Walkers defeat.

Theres nothing quite so dramatic...

House Of The Dragon Season 2, Episode 1 Review: A Mostly Strong Return For Game Of Thrones' Prequel
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2, episode 1, "A Son for a Son."

House of the Dragon season 2, episode 1 is a pretty good way to kick off the Game of Thrones prequel's sophomore year. It does a good job of laying the groundwork for the Dance of the Dragons, with some extremely impressive performances. Some parts, however, such as Blood and Cheese, were rather disappointing.

After almost two years, House of the Dragon season 2, episode 1 is finally here, and its mostly worth the wait. Picking things up just days after House of the Dragon season 1s ending, the season 2 premiere is about dealing with the fallout from Lucerys Velaryons death, getting various pieces back in place, and properly beginning the Targaryen civil war. Although I felt there were a couple of missteps, its a solid return and a promising sign of things to come.

Game of Thrones is one of the most popular TV series, spanning multiple spin-offs. However, Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, doesn't think she can continue the journey beyond her time on the show.

Speaking to People, Clarke explained that she hasn't watched the popular House of the Dragon spinoff. The new series, which returns with Season 2 on June 16, stands as a prequel to the original HBO series, and follows the events that would lead up to the decline of House Targaryen. The prequel begins 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united after the Targaryen conquest, and almost two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones.

House of the Dragon Season 1 ended dramatically with Ewan Mitchell's Aemond Targaryen and his dragon Vhagar chasing down and killing his nephew. Ahead of the Season 2 premiere, Mitchell opened up about what his character might be feeling heading into new episodes.

"I think that's one of the beauties of the character," Mitchell told ComicBook."You're not completely sure. You know, it's like, you don't necessarily what's going on inside with Aemond, but you do know something is going off inside. There are cogs turning behind his eyes. You're not too sure which way he's going to go. I love how Aemond continually challenges the audience of what you think about him," the actor explained.

House of the Dragon Star Names Iconic Horror Villain as Inspiration for Aemond Targaryen

House of the Dragon is gearing up to return on HBO and Max very soon, picking up shortly after the events of the first season. Ahead of the season's premiere, star Ewan Mitchell shared some insight into how he plays his character, Aemond Targaryen.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Mitchell commented on where the inspiration comes from for how he portrays Aemond. The actor gives credit to Michael Myers, the masked murderer from the Halloween movie series. As a mute killer, the Michael Myers character is made scary through his "physicality," and as Mitchell explained, this was what he was thinking about when bringing his Targaryen to life in House of the Dragon.
