Exclusive: UTA has signed writer-director Emma Tammi for representation in all areas.

Tammi is the filmmaker behind Five Nights at Freddy’s, the global hit from Universal and Blumhouse that became the highest-grossing film in Blumhouse history. Based on the popular video game, the film opened to $80 million domestically, despite a day-and-date streaming release with Peacock, and went on to gross nearly $300 million worldwide. Tammi directed and co-wrote the feature, and recently wrapped production on the sequel, which is slated for release in theaters on December 5.

Tammi made her feature directorial debut with the supernatural horror film The Wind, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2018 and was released by IFC Midnight. The rising filmmaker will continue to be represented by John Burnham at Atlas Artists and her attorney Andrew Howard at Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

The long-awaited sequel to The Accountant is hitting theaters this month, set to drop on April 25, 2025. Ahead of the movie's theatrical premiere, Cbr can unveil an exclusive sneak peek clip.

While Jason Statham may owe his acting career to Guy Ritchie for giving him his start, critics felt differently after panning their third cinematic collaboration, Revolver. Torpedoed by ungodly expectations caused by Snatch and Lock,Stock and Two Smoking Barrels before it, Revolver is a much better movie than credited for, requiring repeat viewings to see through the style-over-substance charge the movie has been leveled with.

As Revolver celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2025, giving the film another spin is recommended for Statham and Ritchie fans. With a screenplay co-written by venerated French filmmaker Luc Besson, Revolver was unfairly dismissed during its initial release and deserves another shot. It may not be the best work by the talent involved, but there's no way Revolver should hold a lowly 13% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Persona managed to give me a shock before I even started watching it. Its IMDb entry lists it as running two hours and twenty-one minutes, which seemed a bit excessive for the film’s plot. Thankfully, when I put it on, the actual running time was a more reasonable hour and forty-two minutes, and even that was a bit longer than needed.

A woman wakes up with no memory of who or where she is. Where is a filthy house, one that looks like it’s been used as a squat for the homeless. Actually, it’s serving a much more sinister purpose, its doors locked and windows boarded up, it’s serving as a prison for her.

On the TV, the news is reporting another woman is missing, abducted from a nearby mall. Could...

Mike Ho’s “Persona” (2024) is a kidnapping drama sans any color and texture. A woman wakes up in an unknown house. She has no recollection of the circumstances that transpired and has brought her there. She fumbles around for clues and markers that can give her a certainty or inkling of the stuff that has gone down here. Groping in the dark, she stumbles across another bruised woman, Samantha. It is only after some effort the woman recalls her name being Tricia.

What’s definite, however, is the reality of the house where the two are caged. The exits are all sealed up. But the ominousness of the captor lingers in the air. At any point, he may be back. There’s no real threat though the endangering man makes his appearance brashly. The film is essentially circling two women who are bracing themselves for the inevitable return of the kidnapper.

Kevin Costner might be known for his many big screen Western hits like Dances with Wolves, Open Range, and Wyatt Earp, but in 2012, the actor took to the small screen alongside the late Bill Paxton to trace the epic saga of one of the most infamous family feuds ever recorded. A sinister dance with Slavic folklore, Nikola Petrovic’s horror movie Mudrick is being released by Gravitas Ventures next month, and Bloody Disgusting has the official trailer debut.

“Nightingale,” a new action thriller, was filmed in Bulgaria and takes a dramatic look at the current war between Russia and Ukraine through a dangerous rescue mission lens. Lamonica Garrett plays a former special forces soldier who now works as a private military contractor trying to save his stolen adopted daughter.

The movie, directed by William Kaufman, who is known for making action movies, tries to show how complicated the human stories that come out of foreign conflicts are. Garrett’s character has to go through dangerous areas while trying to save people from Russian forces in a frantic rescue mission.

The movie has a great group cast, with Jason Patric as a CIA handler and Andrew Howard as a former CIA agent who worked in Ukraine. Daniel Bernhardt will play the bad guy, a Russian general in charge of the kidnapping.

“Nightingale,” an action thriller set against the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, has pulled the curtain back on its ensemble, casting “Special Ops: Lioness” and “1883” star Lamonica Garrett to lead the picture. Jason Patric, Andrew Howard and Daniel Bernhardt are also starring.

The picture comes from producers Isaac Lewis and Andrew Lewis of Denton Film. Low-budget staple William Kaufman is directing the feature, which recently wrapped principal photography in Bulgaria. Kaufman co-write the script with Paul Reichelt, who also serves as executive producer.

Garrett is best known for his roles on “Sons of Anarchy” and “Designated Survivor.” He stars in “Nightingale” as an American Special Forces Operator and private military contractor, who must balance tending to civilian lives while rescuing his adoptive daughter, who is kidnapped and taken hostage by Russian forces in Ukraine. Patric plays a CIA handler with a shared history with Garrett’s character.

Somebody seems to have a lot of faith in director James Bamford. After years of working as a stuntman and directing episodes of mostly DC Comics-related TV shows, Hard Home is his fourth film to see release this year. The fact that the previous three, Air Force One Down, Jade, and Shadow Land left a lot to be desired is, of course, another matter.

Here he’s working from a script by Mark Shea Price, whose previous credits consist of shorts such as The Mayans Were Right and Raised by Fish. It opens with Mary jogging through the woods and attracting the attention of a Polaroid-wielding psycho when she stops to check out an old cemetery.

Jean Smart was one of the star's of HBO's Watchmen series, a show that was met with widespread acclaim. She was only able to secure her role after another star turned it down, and Smart is grateful for that.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Smart was praised for her work in television showsl ike Mare of Easttown, Fargo, and Watchmen. She shared her thoughts on each of these roles, and with Watchmen, she said how she only got the part because Alien star Sigourney Weaver turned it down. Smart also shared how she was completely unfamiliar with the source material when boarding Watchmen, but she's grateful for Weaver rejecting the role, she she really came to enjoy her involvement.

Exclusive: Academy Award nominated writer Samy Burch has signed with WME. Burch is the writer behind May December, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, in addition to WGA and Critics Choice Awards nominations. Burch won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay and the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Screenplay.

Most recently, Burch wrote script for Cannes package Late Fame, starring Sandra Hüller and Willem Dafoe from director Kent Jones for producer Killer Films. Burch also wrote the screenplay for Coyote vs. Acme for director Dave Green at Warner Bros.

With the beginning of Phase 4 and the Multiverse Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021, Marvel Studios decided to expand the franchise’s canon with Disney+ streaming shows that would be directly connected with the movies, unlike all the previous shows that aired on ABC and Netflix. The first Disney+ MCU series was ‘WandaVision’, and since its premiere, we have watched eight live-action series and one animated series.

Patrick Wilson is looking back at Watchmen and praising director Zack Snyder for being “ahead of the curve,” which he says ultimately led the way for films like The Avengers.

“Watchmen is the only movie of mine that I have watched front to back since a premiere — that movie is awesome,” Wilson said in an interview with ReelBlend.

Following the events upon which he had to leave Great Britain for unknown reasons and to return to his parents' native village, Paul (Pavle) finds a mysterious family in the house he inherited which is part of the cult of the Old Slavic underworld god Veles. This is the sophmore feature film from Nikola Petrović whose first film, the 2019 thriller Dogs Die Alone, also took place in rural Serbia. We're picking up on a theme here. Erik Hodge, who leads the Los Angeles office of New York-based The Raine Group, thinks things are a bit risky in Hollywood at the moment.

Exclusive: Brendan Moriarty (Road to Freedom) is gearing up to direct In the Night, a human trafficking thriller starring Gary Cairns, Jay Giannone, Vincent De Paul, Clayton T. Smith and Aizhan Lighg, which is inspired by real accounts from CIA agents.

The film will dive into the dubious life of CIA agent Ian Boyd (Gary), who is tasked with taking down the leader of the largest human trafficking organization in China, in his last black-ops mission before retiring.

Cairns and Smith penned the screenplay, based on a story by J. Loren. Moriarty’s Franklin Square Pictures banner will finance and produce, with Moriarty producing alongside Cairns and Willie Barela, Henry Bronson and Doug Deluca exec producing, and Stephen L. Harvey and Angelika Jaroslawska Sapieha serving as co-executive producers.

Case in point: rebooting Perry Mason with a 21st century lens, but staging the iconic character against the Great Depression in Los Angeles. It’s a complete dusting off and polishing up of the Erle Stanley Gardner-created IP.

In the series created by Ron Fitzgerald and Rolin Jones, we see Mason’s rise — as sublimely portrayed by The Americans‘ Matthew Rhys — from gumshoe P.I. to burgeoning attorney. He squares off with corrupt city officials and a demagogue Christian Evangelist, Sister Alice McKeegan (played by Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany), as he tries to learn who brutally snatched and murdered Charlie Dodson.

Free directed “Two Distant Strangers” along with Martin Desmond Roe, and the film that was acquired by Netflix tells the story of a Black man trying to get home to his dog who is stopped by police and killed, only to find himself caught in a “Groundhog Day”-style infinite time loop in which he relives the morning and gets killed by the same police officer over and over again no matter what he does differently. Free wrote Two Distant Strangers and co-directed with Martin Desmond Roe. The Netflix short which stars Joey Bada$$, Andrew Howard and Zaria follows a man who is trying to get home to his dog, but gets stuck in a time loop that forces him to relive a deadly run-in with a cop.

Short films rarely get the attention they deserve throughout the year, but the 15 that get nominated for Oscars across three categories are the exception to the rule. Representing an entire art form is a lot to ask any one film, but luckily this year’s batch of nominees is well positioned to do the short form justice. This year’s five Best Live-Action Short Film contenders all follow traditional narrative structures, making each humanitarian tale easily accessible to those less familiar with short form.

The shorts category often highlights certain sociopolitical issues, and this year is no different. From racist police brutality to disability to the everyday struggles of a Palestinian family, the five nominees hold a mirror up to the world’s most egregious injustices. Some of the entries predate the George Floyd killing, while another was shot in direct reaction to that tragedy last summer; two more were made abroad, on opposite sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, touching on themes that transcend borders. The streamer announced that it has acquired worldwide rights to the Academy Award-nominated live action short film “Two Distant Strangers” from directors Travon Free and Martin Desmond Roe. “Two Distant Strangers” will be debut on Netflix on April 9.
