Last fall, Bush was named the chief creative officer for Walt Disney Animation Studios — arguably the most important job in animation. He was no stranger to Disney; for the past 10 years he’s served as part of the studio’s creative leadership, advising on new projects and helping out when things go astray. Walt Disney Animation Studios revealed a brand-new teaser trailer this morning for Zootopia 2, the highly anticipated sequel to 2016’s Academy Award-winning Zootopia.

Featuring glimpses at new and returning characters, the trailer reunites rookie cops Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman) and teases a new team-up with a mysterious pit viper, Gary De’Snake (voice of Ke Huy Quan).

In the film, which opens only in theaters on Nov. 26, Judy and Nick find themselves on the twisting trail of a great mystery when Gary De’Snake arrives in Zootopia and turns the animal metropolis upside down.

To crack the case, they must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before.

According to Disney Animation chief creative officer and director Jared Bush, who also wrote the script, a larger world is in store for fans.

Good news for predators, prey, and those who are still undecided: The first trailer for "Zootopia 2" has arrived, featuring the return of crime-solving animal duo Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) and Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin). In the interim, an anthology miniseries called "Zootopia+" -- featuring six stories centered around side characters -- was released on Disney+.

Ginnifer Goodwin (“Once Upon a Time”) and Jason Bateman (“Ozark”) return to their animated roles as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, respectively, alongside a cast of new animal characters. Disney dropped the trailer for “Zootopia 2,” the long-awaited sequel to the billion-dollar Best Animated Feature Oscar winner from 2016. This not only marks the return of rookie cops Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), but also introduces reptiles for the first time to their mammal metropolis.

The buddy comedy finds Hopps, the police department’s first rabbit cop, working full-time with Wilde, the sly fox and former grifter. They investigate a crime in Marsh Market, where the first reptile is spotted. Who is prime suspect Gary De’Snake (Oscar winner Quan Kế Huy), the venomous pit viper? Disney is coming back with yet another sequel film, this time ‘Zootopia 2.’ The film will release in theaters on November 26, as Disney’s Thanksgiving time release.

Like “Inside Out 2” and “Moana 2,”“Zootopia 2” is Disney banking on brand recognition instead of new IP. However, this move has paid off for them with the other two films, and I do think it’s possible “Zootopia 2” can do even better than the other sequels.

Plus, Disney already made ‘Zootopia’ part of Shanghai Disney, and the new “Zootopia Better Together” show will be coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World this winter.

They were always going to do more films because they doubled down on the IP with the theme parks. The show will be a replacement for “It’s Tough To Be A Bug.”

The sequel to 2016’s Oscar-winning $1B+ grosser is due for release in the Thanksgiving corridor this year.

The first movie followed Judy (Ginnifer Goodwin) as a rookie cop who teams up with con artist Nick (Jason Bateman) to uncover a conspiracy in a titular metropolis of anthropomorphic animals.

New cast member Ke Huy Quan was on hand to introduce the fresh Zootopia 2 footage. He joins the follow-up as a snake named Gary, the impetus for Judy and Nick’s next case.

This portion of the show was introduced in voice-over by Bateman as Nick, who referred to CinemaCon as “ZinemaCon, Celebrating the Animal Experience” before Quan took the stage.

During The Walt Disney Studios presentation at CinemaCon 2025, further details were revealed about the highly anticipated upcoming sequel “Zootopia 2.” Narrating an animated video shown to the crowd, the film’s main voice lead, Jason Bateman had some fun with Disney’s offerings, renaming their entire slate with animal puns like “Thundercolts” (“Thunderbolts”), “Sealio,” (“Elio”), and “Fantastic Fur” (“Fantastic Four: First Steps”).

Taking the stage, Academy Award-winner Ke Huy Quan was present to unveil the first footage for the sequel, having previously been announced as joining the cast during the D23 Expo in August 2024. “Zootopia 2” will introduce the world of reptiles, in which Quan plays a snake named Gary who Bateman’s Nick and Ginnifer Goodwin’s Judy are after. He’s the first of his species to enter Zootopia and his presence sets the sequel’s plot in motion.

It’s overseen by a quokka named Dr. Fuzzbee and filled with mismatched cops, such as an elephant who keeps getting terrified of the mouse who shares a squad car, or the deer who keeps fighting with a skunk. Hopps, for those who may have forgotten, is a rabbit and Wilde is a fox.

Disney also shared a scene where Hopps and Wilde go on holiday to a marsh resort, filled with hippos going down waterslides and a juggling seal — whoops, make that sea lion!

Tangled is one of the most popular and beloved recent Disney movies. Which naturally led to a need for a live-action version.

Disney is known for its beloved animated Disney Princesses, which include both classic characters like Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Belle, and Ariel, but also newcomers like Merida, Tiana, Moana, Raya, and Rapunzel. The latter got her own movie with the beloved 2010 animation Tangled. Disney was already working on developing a live-action version, but, per The Hollywood Reporter, the plans for the live-action Tangled are now paused amid its Snow White headaches.

There were conversations about the adaptation, but Disney confirmed the Tangled live-action remake in December 2024. Michael Gracey, who helmed critically acclaimed productions like The Greatest Showman and the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man, was in talks to direct. Jennifer Kayton Robinson, who helms the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel, wrote the draft for the script.

Disney has hit pause on development of a live-action version of its animated hit “Tangled,” an individual with knowledge told TheWrap. The move comes in the wake of the studio’s latest live-action remake, “Snow White,” bombing at the box office with just $70 million domestic after two weeks in theaters — a far cry from the $174 million opening weekend of “Beauty and the Beast” in 2017 and $92 million opening weekend of “Aladdin” in 2019.

Speaking with People, Leguizamo offered a promising update on the development of Encanto 2, revealing that the animated sequel is now being discussed. Not only that, the actor states that, if he gets his way, the follow-up will be heavily centered on Bruno, the Madrigal’s ostracized uncle who has the ability to see and create visions of the future. Encanto is still waiting for its sequel, as despite its success, a new installment has yet to be officially announced by Disney. However, John Leguizamo has hinted that Encanto 2 may be closer to happening than fans might realize.

Leguizamo discussed the possible sequel in a new interview with People at the opening night for the Buena Vista Social Club. He shared how he's just as eager as the fans to see Encanto get a sequel, though he has the advantage of knowing the decision makers. Leguizamo teased that he's been personally badging the Encanto team about getting progress moving on a follow-up film, sharing a promising update on the movie finally happening.
