The ceremony capped a full weekend for the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which hosted the Children’s & Family Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday.

Sesame Street won for Outstanding Preschool Series as well as for puppetry and direction, giving it five awards across the weekend, tying it with Saturday’s big winner, Netflix’s Lost Ollie. Guardians and Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur from Disney Channel also scored best-in-field wins tonight to bring their tallies to four apiece.

HBO/Max’s Sesame Street, Disney+’s The Muppets Mayhem and Jack Black were among the winners at the second annual Children’ &’s and Family Emmy Awards, which were handed out Sunday night by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Among its wins, Sesame Street (in its 56th season) was named best preschool series, while The Muppets Mayhem — which was canceled last month after airing only one season — was named best children’s or family viewing series.

Black, meanwhile, won his first-ever Emmy for best voice performance in a children’s or young teen program for his work as Po on Netflix’s Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight.

An excited Black took the stage to accept his award, giving a high kick and belting out “Kung Fu Panda, the dragon knight!”

“I’m really nervous and stoked to be here,” he added, noting that he was cast in the role 20 years ago.

“Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” has recruited a star-studded cast, announcing a host of names lending their voices to the series during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday.

The series – which is about 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette and her 10-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur – will feature Alison Brie (“Glow”), Andy Cohen (“Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen”), Daveed Diggs (“Snowpiercer”), Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”), Jennifer Hudson (“Respect”), Cliff “Method Man” Smith (“Power Book II: Ghost”), Cobie Smulders (“How I Met Your Mother”) and Wesley Snipes (“Blade” trilogy) in guest star voice roles.

Actors Lupita Nyong’o and Mark Hamill were among the winners in the Daytime Emmys’ Children’s and Animation categories, announced Saturday.

Nyong’o won out in the category of Outstanding Limited Performance In a Children’s Program, with her turn as “The Storyteller” in Netflix’s Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices.

Hamill, meanwhile, dominated the category of Outstanding Performer in a Preschool Animated Program. He was recognized for his performance as Vuli in Disney Channel series Elena of Avalor.

The latest Emmys telecast was hosted by singer, songwriter, director and Daytime Emmy Award-nominated actress Raven-Symoné. Additional presenters included Millie Davis (PBS’s Odd Squad), and Tom Kenny (Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants), with awards given out in 30 categories.

The first batch of 2021 Daytime Emmy Awards were handed out in 41 categories, on June 25. An additional award show focused on Lifestyle Programming, will be presented on Sunday.

There’s a moment in Planes: Fire and Rescue where one of the sentient vehicles is prompted to “drop the needle.” The request is followed by a series of quick cuts: a small anthropomorphic forklift pulls out a record from its sleeve, slams in onto a turntable, and lowers the tonearm. The first trailer has arrived for Disney's "Planes" follow-up called "Fire and Rescue." The offshoot of the cars franchise directed by Jeffrey M. Howard, features the voice talents of Dane Cook, Julie Bowen, Danny Pardo and others. The first "Planes" opened on August 9th, 2013 and even though it didn't turn in gargantuan worldwide figures, they were decent enough at $219.7 worldwide, to warrant a sequel with a $50 million production budget easily covered on U.S. soil, where it made over $90 million.

The Planes Blu-Ray has a release date, and you obviously want to get this one on your calendar, both because you know you want it, and because it’s smack dab in holiday buying season.

You may recall that during our Podcast review that covered Planes, I wasn’t all that favorable of it, but that was mostly because I was holding it to Pixar standards. I didn’t exactly dislike it, but you expect so much at this point that I hoped for more. Of course, the kids wanted nothing to do with my snooty, movie critic take on things, and loved it.

★★☆☆☆ Following the enormous commercial success of Pixar's merch machine Cars (2006) and its sequel, it's unsurprising - if a little disheartening - that we now have Planes (2013), a Disney spin-off set in the same universe. You'd be forgiven for thinking that the project sounds lazy, particularly for a studio known for its originality, and over the course of 92 underwhelming minutes these suspicions are confirmed. Directed by Klay Hall, the extremely predictable narrative follows protagonist Dusty Crophopper (Dane Cook), a lowly crop-duster with dreams of competing with his heroes in the world famous global aerial race.

With support from trusty friend and ace mechanic Dottie (Teri Hatcher), cheerful fuel truck Chug (Brad Garrett) and eventual mentor Skipper (Stacy Keach), Dusty soon qualifies for the competition. Not only will he have to defeat his formidable rivals - including arrogant champion and bully Ripslinger (Roger Craig Smith) - he must also overcome fear of heights.

Ever since the Planes-Tow Mater short film on Cars 2 and the first trailer for a Planes feature film, there was some small hope that this would be a fun expanded world of Cars taken to the skies. Once it was pegged as a direct-to-video release though, some worry started to settle into the air. Then it was noticeable that Pixar removed itself from the production, giving all the credit to Disney, but still marketing it “from Above the World of Cars.” That meant that Disney must have crunched the numbers of the potential licensing deals they could make and get kids (and their parents) to buy into. Unfortunately, Disney’s Planes should have stayed a DVD release.

The first shot of Disney’s latest animated feature, is almost disclaimer-like, in telling you you’re in the ‘world of Cars’. Indeed the film is set in the same world as Pixar’s 2006 and 2011 Cars films, but this isn’t a Pixar film, and so having the expectations of one from Planes is probably unfair.

Dusty Crophopper, voiced by Dane Cook, dreams of being a racer, but instead is stuck in the life of fertilising crops. He isn’t built to race, and he’s afraid of heights, but it doesn’t stop him from trying. Determined to prove himself, he competes in Wings of the Globe, a race that literally goes all the way round the world.

So, thanks to our friends over at IMPAwards, we have three new posters up for Disney's Planes and, they're well...just there. That's as close as I can get to the emotions these images stir up. The film, which is "from above the world of cars," could however turn out to be a blast, I'm just not convinced as the whole affair seems lackluster for the most part. Taking into account everything we.ve seen of Disney.s upcoming Cars spinoff Planes, there doesn.t seem to be any decent reason for adults without children to pre-emptively place their hands on their wallets. Above is the first full-length trailer for the film, thanks to Moviefone, and if it does anything, it makes 3D glasses with attached earplugs look like a pretty great idea. As with the purely visual teaser trailer Disney released a couple of weeks ago, the animation during the flight-filled scenes looks great; and even if the animation style is still way too cartoonish, at least the film will have a larger-than-average scope and some pretty dazzling effects work to go along with its all-star cast and drab one-liners.
