One Of Hulu's First Ever Shows Was A Western Comedy Created By A Star Trek Star
Image
"Star Trek: Voyager" introduced Nancy Hower's Ensign Samantha Wildman in the fourth episode of the show's second season, "Elogium" (which first aired in 1995). Described as a xenobiology expert during her introduction, the character was named after Samantha Wildman, a real-life young girl who, after dying in a tragic accident, had donated life-saving organs to co-writer Jimmy Diggs' wife. Hower's character would go on to give birth to her daughter, Naomi, in the 1996 episode "Deadlock," which was a dramatic wrinkle for "Voyager." Recall that the premise of the series was that the U.S.S. Voyager was lost in space, 70 years from Earth. This meant Wildman's daughter -- who was half human and half Ktarian -- would have to be raised in space.

Naomi was the one who ended up playing a major role on the show, while Samantha only appeared in eight episodes total. She didn't have much of a character arc,...

One of Star Trek: Voyager’s Most Beloved Characters Was the Writer’s Tribute to a 7-Year-Old Girl Who Saved His Wife’s Life with a Kidney Transplant
Image
The space among the stars is a vast and unexplored universe of unknown species, galaxies, nebulas, and planetary systems. And Star Trek devotes its voyages to the discovery of strange new worlds and unknown frontiers. As a part of one such voyage, a meaningful relationship was formed between a show’s character and the writer who went through a transformative journey.

Star Trek: Voyager [Credit: United Paramount Network]

In Star Trek: Voyager, one of the show’s fan-favorite characters, Ensign Samantha Wilder has a much more complex history behind her character name than fans realize. Despite not being a part of the original crew from the get-go, she quickly rose to the ranks of a popular series regular and holds a much more emotional connection to the real world than the rest of the cast members.

How Old Is Star Trek: Voyagers Naomi Wildman In Picard Season 3?
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5, episode 1, "Dos Cerritos"Star Trek: Voyager's Naomi Wildman's (Scarlett Pomers) age in Star Trek: Picard season 3 is not completely clear. Naomi Wildman was born on the USS Voyager in Star Trek: Voyager season 2, episode 21, "Deadlock", to xenobiologist Ensign Samantha Wildman (Nancy Hower). Ensign Wildman was already pregnant before the USS Voyager left the Alpha Quadrant, with the nearly two-year gestational period explained by Naomi's father being Ktarian. After her birth, Naomi rapidly grew out of infancy, so Star Trek: Voyager could skip over having a toddler on board, and she could be Voyager's relatable child character.

The half-Ktarian genetics that made Naomi's birth and upbringing on Star Trek: Voyager more convenient from a storytelling perspective also made it tricky to determine exactly how old she is. Naomi doesn't necessarily look or act like her chronological age in...

Star Trek: Lower Decks reveals Naomi Wildman's future
Image
Warning: This post contains spoilers from Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5, episode 1, "Dos Cerritos."

The last time we saw Naomi Wildman, who was portrayed by Scarlett Pomers on Star Trek: Voyager, she was still a child who Neelix [Ethan Phillips] was tucking into bed at night. As the only child to be born and raised on Voyager [Tom Paris' and B'Elanna Torres' daughter was born on the ship before Voyager returned to Earth], she garnered a lot of attention as no one had anticipated Voyager being away from home long enough for children to be born aboard. But Ensign Samantha Wilder [Nancy Hower] was already pregnant when Voyager was lost in the Delta Quadrant, and Naomi Wildman became a part of the Voyager family with Pomers appearing in ninteen episodes during the series' seven year run.

Since Voyager ended, Naomi hasn't really even been mentioned since then, and no one knew what her future held or what became of her after the starship made it back to Earth.

Star Trek Reveals What Happened To Voyagers Naomi Wildman
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5, episode 1, "Dos Cerritos"

Star Trek reveals what happened to Star Trek: Voyager's Naomi Wildman (Scarlett Pomers) after the USS Voyager's return to the Alpha Quadrant. Naomi Wildman was Ensign Samantha Wildman's (Nancy Hower) half-Ktarian daughter, born in Star Trek: Voyager season 2, episode 21, "Deadlock". Instead of spending years as a toddler, Naomi quickly grew into a child who could actively interact with the USS Voyager's crew, and also became a character that kids watching Star Trek: Voyager could relate to, like Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) in Star Trek: The Next Generation or Jake Sisko (Cirroc Lofton) in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

With new Star Trek shows taking place in the late 24th century, audiences have been able to learn what happened to most of the USS Voyager crew after getting back home. Most notably, Admiral Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew...

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5 Offers An Update On A Voyager Character We've Been Wondering About
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

In the "Star Trek: Lower Decks" episode "Dos Cerritos," the premiere of the show's fifth and final season, Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) was thrilled to receive the latest issue of Fleet Magazine on his Padd. Boimler is excited because this was the periodical's annual 30-Under-30 issue, meant to highlight the career accomplishments of Starfleet's younger officers. In the show's previous episode, Boimler briefly took command of the U.S.S. Cerritos, a rare privilege for junior-grade lieutenants, and his actions warranted a write-up. Recall that there is no money in Starfleet, leaving prestige as the only currency. Boimler thinks he's going to be rich.

But as Boimler thumbs through the magazine, he doesn't see himself. It seems that his interview was cut. He is doomed to remain in obscurity despite his heroism, always earmarked to lose. He complains that other,...

‘Elsbeth’ Star Carrie Preston Says Season 2 Finds the Crime-Solving Lawyer on ‘Shaky Ground’
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from the “Elsbeth” Season 2 premiere.

Elsbeth Tascioni is back and on the case of a peeved opera fan who stabs an annoying audience member to death in the Season 2 premiere of the CBS series “Elsbeth,” while facing a major roadblock from within the NYPD precinct she now calls home in the form of a strict new lieutenant (Daniel K. Isaac of “Billions”).

Carrie Preston, who has played the lawyer-turned-sleuth for 14 years across “The Good Wife” and “The Good Fight”and now her own series, told TheWrap that the theme of Season 2 is,”You can’t escape your past,” which proves true not only for the lineup of colorful suspects, but for Elsbeth and her colleagues in the police.

She also discusses working with Nathan Lane — the opera buff whom Elsbeth immediately sizes up as the murderer, who is flattered that she wants to listen to...

A Single Star Trek: Voyager Scene Accidentally Started An Entire Seven Of Nine Storyline
Image
One of Seven of Nine's (Jeri Ryan) best relationships on Star Trek: Voyager would never have happened if it weren't for a season 5 episode. Despite joining Voyager's cast of characters halfway through the series' run, Seven of Nine quickly rose to become extremely popular. Thanks to Ryan's acting skills and the character's complicated, emotional journey from Borg drone back to humanity, Seven established herself as one of Voyager's most recognizable characters and went on to become hugely important to the Star Trek timeline as a whole after Voyager ended.

As she started to regain her humanity, one of the most enjoyable aspects of Seven's character was watching her navigate her relationships with the rest of the crew. Seven's mentorship with Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and the Doctor (Robert Picardo) or her rivalry turned grudging respect for B'Elanna Torres (Roxann Dawson) added a lot to her story. However, Seven's best and...

An Emotional Scene In Star Trek: Voyager Had Scarlett Pomers Fighting Back Tears
Image
In the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Once Upon a Time", the Delta Flyer — manned by Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill), Tuvok (Tim Russ), and Ensign Wildman (Nancy Hower) — crash lands on a remote, uninhabited planet and gets buried under three kilometers of rock. Wildman is grievously injured, and it's only a matter of time before she succumbs to her injuries, lest she return to sickbay back on board the Voyager. However, thanks to an ion storm, the Voyager cannot immediately locate the Flyer. The clock is ticking.

On board the Voyager, no one seems equipped to tell Wildman's young daughter Naomi (Scarlett Pomers) about the danger her mother is in. Neelix (Ethan Phillips), the ship's ineffectual morale officer, decides that the best way to tell Naomi is to ... not tell her. Neelix takes Naomi to the ship's holodeck to enact a weird-ass children's book program called "The Adventures of Flotter,...

Who Is Naomi Wildman, Star Trek: Voyager’s Youngest Hero?
Image
Naomi Wildman, the half-Ktarian daughter of Ensign Samantha Wildman, quickly became a fan favorite on Star Trek: Voyager. Despite complications with her half-Ktarian biology, Naomi forges a close friendship with Seven of Nine and becomes part of the Voyager family. The character of Naomi Wildman highlights the importance of family, education, and friendship in the Star Trek universe.

Who is Naomi Wildman (Scarlett Pomers), the youngest hero of Star Trek: Voyager? Naomi Wildman in the cast of Voyager continues a trend of including children on Star Trek shows that started with Ensign Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and continued with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Jake Sisko (Cirroc Lofton), Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks)'s teenage son; and Nog (Aron Eisenberg), the son of Rom (Max Grodénchik). 1 Polarizing Star Trek: Voyager Character Was Saved By Scheduling Issues
Image
Scheduling issues in the early seasons of Star Trek: Voyager saved Neelix from becoming completely unlikable. Neelix's jealousy over Kes's interactions was one of his least appealing qualities and would have been worsened if episodes were aired in their original order. As the show progressed, Voyager rehabilitated Neelix's character by ending his relationship with Kes and giving him better storylines and character development.

Star Trek: Voyager's season 2 scheduling issues saved one polarizing character from going any further downhill. The end of Voyager season 1 and the beginning of season 2 suffered from several bizarre scheduling choices, with four episodes that were supposed to be broadcast with season 1 moved to the beginning of season 2 instead. This shortened Voyager season 1 to just 16 episodes, well shy of the show's usual 26, and meant that the end of the season was decidedly anticlimactic, capping things off with a fairly mundane episode instead of taking everything out with a bang.

Star Trek: Voyager Season 2's Big Pregnancy Plot Hole Explained
Image
Samantha Wildman's pregnancy announcement in season 2 of Star Trek: Voyager created a plot hole due to scheduling issues. The unclear timeline of Voyager made it difficult to determine the length of Wildman's pregnancy. The show eventually explained the plot hole in season 6 by introducing the concept of a longer gestation period for half-Ktarian babies.

Star Trek: Voyager had a big pregnancy plot hole in season 2. Although Voyager took a little while to find its feet, not delivering its truly great episodes until later seasons, the show did set up some important characters and storylines early on. One of these characters was Samantha Wildman (Nancy Hower), an Ensign on the USS Voyager's crew who worked in xenobiology. Although Wildman wasn't part of Voyager's main cast, she became an important side character on the show and was involved in a few big storylines after her introduction.

Wildman was first introduced in Voyager season 2, episode 4, "Elogium,...

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Zoey 102.”

“Zoey 102” is finally here, bringing with it plenty of nostalgia and cringeworthy comedy for fans new and old to enjoy.

The Paramount+ movie, a long-gestating sequel of the Nickelodeon hit series “Zoey 101,” features the return of star Jamie Lynn Spears and most of the original cast members for a follow-up adventure along the Pacific Coast Highway. Set more than a decade since the events of the final season, “Zoey 102” follows the title character (Spears) as she juggles her busy career as a producer on a “Love Island”-style reality show and maid of honor duties for her best friends Quinn (Erin Sanders) and Logan’s (Matthew Underwood) wedding.

Directed by Nancy Hower and written by Monica Sherer and Madeline Whitby, the film takes a campy approach to catching up with the crew that first met attending Malibu’s Pacific Coast Academy.

Jamie Lynn Spears Reunites With Pacific Coast Academy Friends in ‘Zoey 102’ Trailer

Are you ready? The official trailer for Paramount+’s Zoey 102 is here, and the gang’s (mostly) back together again.

The trailer opens with a look at Zoey 15 years after Zoey 101 ended. She’s now 30, single and eager to know why everyone her age is obsessed with marriage, only to find out her best friend, Quinn, is set to be wed.

“Chase is gonna be there. It’ll be fine,” Quinn tells Zoey. “It’ll be the reunion we all need.” It’s a response that makes Zoey want to get another drink, hinting that the former high school couple may not be on the best of terms anymore after ending the Nickelodeon series together.

Zoey 101 Cast Reunites in the First Trailer for Zoey 102
Image
Pacific Coast Academy alumni reunite 15 years after the end of the hit series Zoey 101 in Zoey 102, the new Paramount+ original movie. After reviving series like iCarly and Teen Wolf with a film and a spinoff show, the streaming platform brings back one of the biggest youth hits of the first decade of the 2000s.

Released in 2005, Zoey 101 lasted four seasons, being part of a successful batch of series for Nickelodeon that included Drake & Josh, the already mentioned iCarly and Victorious, among other titles. The story centered on Zoey, played by Jamie Lynn Spears, one of the girls who made up the first co-ed class at Pacific Coast Academy.

The series followed the protagonist and her group of friends navigating adolescence while dealing with school, friendships, romance, and the typical problems of age. Now, more than a decade after the end of the show, the group gathers at...

On the northern ridge of the Santa Monica Mountains, in the former stomping grounds of old-west royalty Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Nancy Hower and John Lehr are making one of the least-conventional series (not) on TV right now: a Western improv comedy for Hulu. The streamer launched the second season of Quick Draw, one of its ever-growing number of originals, on Aug. 7. And as was the case with the first run, the actors see no lines, the kill-rate is surprisingly high and comedians are frequently forced to be spontaneously funny while on horseback. Watch This: Hulu's Improv Western Quick Draw Is a Refreshing Change of Pace
There haven't been a lot of comedy westerns save Blazing Saddles, Three Amigos and Wild Wild West, none of which were released in the new millennium. Thankfully, Hulu breathed new life into the genre with its original series Quick Draw, an improvised comedy from 10 Items or Less' John Lehrand Nancy Hower.

Quick Draw follows Sheriff John Henry Hoyle (Lehr), a bumbling Harvard grad who is so confident in his intellectual superiority he even boasts about graduating 327th in his class. Now living in Great Bend, Kansas, Hoyle attempts to introduce forensics to the local rubes, who include the dim-witted Deputy Eli (newcomer Nick Brown), the brazen brothel owner Honey (The Sopranos' Allison Dunbar) and the mopey Undertaker Vernon Shank (Cougar Town's Bob Clendenin).

One of the first things Seth Meyers and Michael Shoemaker realized they had in common when they met at Saturday Night Live in 2001 was a love of comic books. They always thought it’d be fun to do an animated show for adults about superheroes, and around 2006, the idea for The Awesomes began to crystallize. But it didn’t become a reality until they found the 10-episode series a home at Hulu, where it will premiere Aug. 1 (after a planned screening and panel at Comic-Con in July). The story revolves around the greatest superhero team in history, The Awesomes, and...
