Billy Howerdel and Maynard James Keenan Eye New A Perfect Circle Album: “It’s All About Timing”
Image
It’s been seven years since A Perfect Circle last released an album, 2018’s Eat the Elephant, but guitarist Billy Howerdel and singer Maynard James Keenan say that a new album could be on the way.

In a new retrospective interview with Revolver looking back at 25 years of A Perfect Circle, both Howerdel and Keenan addressed the potential for a new album.

Howerdel, who composes most of the band’s music, disclosed that he’s been working on new songs that could end up on the next Apc album. “As I’m writing, sometimes I find myself [thinking], ‘Wow, I really like this, but man, this is fucking sinister,’” said the guitarist. “I’m in a not-sleeping-much and self-discovery mode. When I’m writing music, I’ve been full night-terror, waking up — like, can’t-let-your-mind-rest thing.”

Keenan added that he’s constantly writing music for all three of his bands,...

Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne: Billy Corgan Was a “Raging A**hole” on Lollapalooza
Image
Billy Corgan rubbed a lot of people the wrong way when The Smashing Pumpkins headlined Lollapalooza in 1994, at least according to several musicians and crew members in the new book Lollapalooza: The Uncensored Story of Alternative Rock’s Wildest Festival (available here).

The Pumpkins headlined the traveling festival that summer, leading a lineup that also included Beastie Boys, The Breeders, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, L7, Green Day, and others on the main stage, with The Flaming Lips, Guided By Voices, and The Verve among the acts on the second stage.

As the book notes, Nirvana were being eyed to headline the ’94 edition of Lollapalooza, but the band apparently dropped out shortly before Kurt Cobain tragically took his own life that spring. As a result, the Pumpkins moved up to the headlining slot.

“Lollapalooza was supposed to be Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, and then...

Josh Freese Rejoins A Perfect Circle for Spring 2024 Tour
Image
Josh Freese is rejoining A Perfect Circle for the band’s upcoming run on the “Sessanta Tour.” The outing will mark the first time the drummer will tour with Apc in 13 years.

The “Sessanta Tour” celebrates A Perfect Circle singer Maynard James Keenan’s 60th birthday, and will also feature another one of his bands, Puscifer, as well as Primus. The outing — which will see all three bands sharing the stage as they rotate between their various songs — kicks off April 2nd in Boston, with tickets available here.

Freese, who is now a member of Foo Fighters, will appear at all shows through April 20th at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. After that, he will jump off the tour due to his commitments with the Foos. Puscifer’s Gunnar Olsen will take over behind the kit for the rest of the jaunt, which wraps up May 4th in Queens,...

A Perfect Circle: 'Three Sixty' – Album Review
Regardless of how closely they've followed the far-reaching career of Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan, genre fans are still very likely familiar with his musical output, as tracks from most of his musical projects have made their way into multiple horror, dark fantasy and science fiction films over the past couple of decades. Tracks from the dark-rock supergroup A Perfect Circle, which Keenan co-founded in 1999 with guitarist Billy Howerdel, have found their way into big-budget films like Underworld (“Judith”), Constantine (“Passive”) and Resident Evil: Afterlife (“The Outsider”), and for good reason: their songs possess a haunted, tormented but strangely seductive vibe that lingers in the memory and instills their scenes with an ominously hypnotic quality. While they've undergone personnel changes and a lengthy hiatus due to Keenan and Howerdel's focus on other projects (including Keenan's quirky electro-rock group Puscifer and Howerdel's gothic team Ashes Divide), A Perfect Circle finally began...

The release also includes A Perfect Circle’s first new original, studio recording in a decade with the inclusion of “By And Down,” a song written after the band returned from their self-imposed hiatus for a series of live performances throughout 2010 and 2011. "Billy and I created A Perfect Circle out of a now long-running friendship, and I think the music we have made reflects that personal connection and has given us the ability to further develop and trust our intuition,” explained Keenan. “I feel Three Sixty is an accurate...
