‘Fallout,’ ‘The Bear,’ ‘True Detective: Night Country’ Top Nielsen’s Most-Watched 2024 Emmy Nominees
Ahead of Sunday’s telecast of the Primetime Emmy Awards on ABC, Nielsen has unveiled its ranking for the most-watched titles and talent nominated this year.
“The nominees for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards demonstrate the power of both new and long-running programming to attract viewers’ time and attention,” the ratings firm said in a Thursday statement. “By understanding how audiences are voting with their time, brands and platforms can ensure they’re reaching audiences where they are and create meaningful partnerships with the talent they are investing their time in.”
In order to align with Emmy rules, Nielsen focused on the eligibility period of June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024. For the Best Drama and Best Comedy categories, Nielsen measured time spent watching the season that occurred within that window for which a given title was nominated. Meanwhile, Best Actor and Actress nominees included any titles — both movies and series — in which...

Famous actors often get their real-life children cast to play their character's children on TV, creating a real-life family dynamic onscreen. The children of actors like Dominic West and Tim Allen made their acting debuts alongside their famous fathers on TV. Parent-child acting duos like the Lowes, DeVitos, and Levys developed their own TV series and cast themselves as parent and child characters.
Many actors have starred alongside their own family members onscreen, and in some instances, their real-life children even play their character's children on TV. Plenty of actors have shared the screen with their real-life kids, but they don't always play parent and child. On occasion, the fact that the real-life parent or child of an actor is playing their character's parent or child on TV is directly correlated to the role, like with Martin and Charlie Sheen. Often, though, viewers aren't even aware that certain actors portraying...

Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Crown season 6, part 2!
The Crown made the mistake of recasting Prince William's actor too soon in season 6, part 2. Ed McVey takes over for Rufus Kampa in episode 5, despite there being no significant time jump between the episodes. The perfect moment to introduce the new actor would have been later in episode 7, during a flashback and transition to William going to university.
The historical drama The Crown has recast its main actors every two seasons, but season 6's timeline complicated the impact of one casting change. The Crown premiered in 2016, and, since it followed Queen Elizabeth II's life from the beginning of her reign and into the 21st century, it made more sense to change the actors than use special effects and makeup to show older versions of themselves. Although that move worked well with its actors, The Crown season 6's casting...

In “Willsmania” — episode five of part two of The Crown, which is now streaming — Prince Charles finds himself the target of his older son’s grief in the aftermath of Princess Diana’s (Elizabeth Debicki) death. The episode picks up after the first four episodes (which were released in November) brought viewers up to the week following Diana and Dodi Fayed’s (Khalid Abdalla) untimely deaths. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Crown, Season 6, Part 2, Episode 7, “Alma Mater.”] The Crown has reached its end and seems to be delivering even more fiction in the second half of its sixth and final season in the form of a flashback featuring Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and… Kate Middleton (Ella Bright)?! Yes, you read that right. In the final season’s seventh installment, “Alma Mater,” the future royal meets Princess Diana and Prince William (Rufus Kampa) in a sequence set in December 1996. As the episode opens, Kate and her mother Carole (House of the Dragon‘s Eve Best) peruse the dress racks at a London department store before exiting out onto the street. (Credit: Netflix) Across the way, on the other sidewalk, a frenzy is forming as Princess Diana and Prince William hand out copies of The Big Issue magazine featuring a story about drugs. In the Netflix show’s fifth season, which aired in 2022, Dominic took over the role of Prince Charles, while Senan played a young Prince William.

In a recent interview with the Radio Times, Dominic, 54, revealed the reason behind the casting change.

The Crown is preparing for the end, and the trailer for the final six episodes brings to life what creator Peter Morgan has told audiences to expect from the hit Netflix drama: A love letter to the Queen.
The final episodes will draw to a close the genre-defining prestige royal saga that has been on screens since 2016, says the logline, and the footage centers around Queen Elizabeth, played by Imelda Staunton, as she battles sentimentality that the royal family is out of touch with the country, while reflecting on her reign as the longest-serving monarch in history and the life she put aside to become Queen.
In a poignant moment that speaks to the late Queen, The Crown‘s monarch says, “I will always be by your side.”
The series paused filming on the final season when Queen Elizabeth II died on Sept. 8, 2022 at the age of 96.

[This story contains spoilers from part one of season six of The Crown.]
The first half of the sixth and final season of Netflix’s The Crown delivered an emotional retelling of the events surrounding Princess Diana’s untimely death.
The final season of the hit historical drama has been split into two parts, following a shift in release strategy employed by the streamer on other hit shows like Stranger Things, You and The Witcher. The final season covers the years 1997-2005; however, part one took place solely in 1997, in the two months leading up to and the week after Diana’s fatal car crash. (Part two, which releases Dec. 14, will be more expansive to span the remaining years.)
When asked about the decision to split the final run, executive producer Suzanne Mackie recently told The Hollywood Reporter: It prolongs the buzz around the final episodes, allowed them to transition Prince William and Prince Harry from the younger boys to young men in recasting,...

Picking up in the aftermath of Princess Diana’s untimely death, the finale follows Prince William (McVey), as he tries to integrate back into life at Eton as the monarchy has to ride the wave of public opinion. As she reaches her Golden Jubilee, the Queen (Imelda Staunton) reflects on the future of the monarchy with the marriage of Charles (Dominic West) and Camilla (Olivia Williams) and the beginnings of a new Royal fairytale in William and Kate (Bellamy). In The Crown Season 6, the show takes creative liberties with Princess Diana's story to indirectly insult Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The show's timeline will end in 2004, meaning it won't cover Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's romance. The self-referential jabs in season 6, such as the insult to Prince Harry, could be problematic if the show continued into modern-day history.
The Crown might not reach the present day to include Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but it seems like Netflix has its own way of insulting them in season 6 with the help of Princess Diana's story. The popular drama, which is based on historical events, is heavily fictionalized and has reached one of the most expected moments in the series: Princess Diana's final moments and her death. However, that includes taking a lot of creative freedom and some hints at current events.

The first episode of “The Crown” Season 6 opens with two striking events that unfold in quick succession. The first is the tragic car accident that took the lives of the real-life Princess Diana and her lover, Dodi Fayed, a scene that’s shot tastefully at a distance. The second is the Princess of Wales donning a brightly colored swimsuit and smiling at her two boys.
That ominous contrast between the morose and the joyous is intentional, according to the series’ costume designers and star. But styling Elizabeth Debicki in Princess Diana’s iconic swimsuits was no easy feat.
“I’m going to be honest with you, it wasn’t the most fun, because swimsuit designs have shifted since the ’90s,” Debicki told TheWrap.
Debicki joked those swimsuits were her “cross to bear,” acknowledging that they were “extremely important, extremely iconic.”

The second part of The Crown season 6 will be released on December 14 and will move on from Princess Diana and continue to explore Queen Elizabeth's struggles and significant events. Spoiler Alert: This story features details from Season 6 of The Crown
Reviews are in for the first four episodes of the sixth and final season of Netflix’s The Crown, and judging from reactions in the UK and France, there’s a divide just about as wide as the English Channel.
The two countries will forever be linked by the tragedy that was the death of Princess Diana in a Parisian car crash on August 31, 1997. But critics today are divergent.
Several major British outlets are negative on the latest installments which dropped at 8am local time, with some taking issue with visions of the late Princess who engages in conversations with the Queen and Prince Charles. These scenes have gotten a lot of attention, referenced as featuring Diana’s “ghost.” The Crown creator Peter Morgan recently told Deadline, “The word ghost is unhelpful, I was never writing anything from a supernatural perspective,...

It’s safe to say viewers did not see ghosts coming.
It was an open question how “The Crown” was going to depict Diana’s death, perhaps the most infamous moment in modern British history. The answer? It went with straightforward melodrama, with just a hint of energies from the beyond.
Season 6 of the Netflix drama begins, literally, with the crash as a random man watches a car careen into the Paris tunnel while walking his dog. The show then flashes back eight weeks earlier, and it feels like we are on a slow march to doom until we get to Diana’s (Elizabeth Debicki) death at the end of Episode 3.
“The Crown” shows final goodbye calls between Diana and the boys, and leans heavily into the idea that Dodi and Diana were near engagement, with Dodi proposing in a Paris hotel room with a ginormous ring, and Diana turning...

Almost seven years to the day since it began, we’re about to give a royal wave of farewell to Netflix drama The Crown, but series six might be its most eye-opening yet, as its first part (out on November 16) deals with the events surrounding the tragic death of Princess Diana.
Some critics’ hackles might be up already after the show previously attracted condemnation for historical inaccuracies, so it will be especially interesting to see how the show covers such an emotive and important event in royal history, and just where the story ends when the final episodes are released on 14th December.

Nobody would have blamed Peter Morgan if the sixth season of Netflix’s The Crown had addressed the death of Diana and its impact on the royal family in only a roundabout way.
Ok, some people absolutely would have. But I personally wouldn’t have blamed Peter Morgan if he’d decided that, with 2006’s The Queen, he’d already made his two-hour episode of The Crown dealing with the impact of Diana’s death on Queen Elizabeth and the precarious position of the monarchy. Surely, Morgan had nothing to gain from rehashing the same beats of royal mourning, along with musing on the causes behind Elizabeth’s slow initial response and the circumstances behind her eventually well-received address to the grieving nation.
At the very least, I hoped that Morgan would find an unexpected angle: the perspective of a palace guard spending the days after Diana’s death watching over the impromptu public memorials,...

The Crown, which has won 21 Emmy Awards during its run on Netflix and is one of the streamer’s most enduringly popular original series, will soon step down from the throne. The show’s sixth season will be its last telling the story of Queen Elizabeth II and Britain’s royal family in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

The Crown cast is opening up about the emotional moments of filming the Netflix hit’s sixth and final season, which follows Princess Diana’s final days and her fatal car crash in Paris.
Diana star Elizabeth Debicki joined co-stars Jonathan Pryce (who plays Prince Philip) and Khalid Abdalla (who plays Dodi Fayed) on the Los Angeles red carpet on Sunday, which marked the first major premiere since the end of the actors strike. Rufus Kampa, who plays a young Prince William, and Fflyn Edwards, who plays a young Prince Harry, were also in attendance. (The final season is split into two parts, with the first half releasing Thursday.)
Debicki, who took over playing the Princess of Wales from Emma Corrin in season five, noted that “it’s been a really unusual and beautiful job and it always came with a huge amount of responsibility,” particularly when it came to dealing with her death.

Dominic West has said his portrayal of Prince Charles in season 6 of The Crown shows the current British monarch during “the worst period” of his life.
Upcoming episodes will show Prince Charles in the aftermath of the news of Princess Diana’s death in August 1997. Charles and Diana had divorced the year prior, with Charles then cementing his relationship with Camilla Parker-Bowles and Diana beginning a relationship with Dodi Fayed, who also died in the crash that ended her life in Paris.
“There were some really heavy scenes this season and a lot of tears for Charles,” said West. “There are a lot of the scenes of Charles trying to come to terms with [Diana’s death] and breaking the news to his sons, trying to help his sons mourn and having varying degrees of success at that,” said West during a Netflix cast interview conducted by the streamer ahead of season 6’s...

The Crown star Elizabeth Debicki has described shooting the scenes in the lead-up to Princess Diana’s death as “completely unbearable.”
With Netflix set to premiere the royal smash’s final series next week, which includes Diana’s death, Debicki said recreating some of the most poured over scenes in modern history was “difficult,” describing the task as “heavy and very manic and incredibly invasive.”
Netflix has already made clear that Diana’s death in a car crash in Paris will take place off screen but the lead-up includes the days prior to the crash and the heavy press attention that Diana and her partner Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) generated. The Crown director Christian Schwochow recently detailed to Deadline the extraordinary efforts that went into ensuring these scenes were handled with tact.

Exclusive: The director of Netflix drama The Crown‘s episodes re-creating Princess Diana’s death in Paris 26 years ago has revealed the extraordinary efforts that went into ensuring it was handled with tact.
Speaking exclusively to Deadline, Christian Schwochow, who directed the three crucial Season 6 episodes that feature what are likely to be some of the most talked about moments on television this year, said that though shots were filmed of Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki, in the Paris morgue, there was never any intention of them being included in the final edit.
The filmmaker directed the second episode from the final season of Peter Morgan’s British royal drama, titled “Two Photographs”; episode 3 (“Dis-Moi-Oui”), which features the crash; and episode 4, titled “Aftermath.”
Schwochow also confirmed reports from last October that the crash involving the Mercedes-Benz, driven by Henri Paul and carrying Diana, Dodi Fayed and security consultant Trevor Rees-Jones,...

Tensions are rising for Princess Diana and the whole of England in the official trailer for The Crown Season six, which will premiere on Netflix with its first four episodes on Nov. 16. The Crown has tackled many turbulent times for the Royal family, but the sixth and final season will go one step further.
As previously reported, the series will chart Princess Diana's final days leading up to her death in a car crash in 1997.
Diana notes in the newly released trailer that "the press are on our tails constantly."
The clip captures several moments of photographers getting too close for comfort.
Whether she's with her children or on a vacation, the press appears, seemingly out of nowhere.
The most significant moment of the trailer showcases Diana accepting Dodi's invitation to go to Paris, but things take a horrible turn when they're, once again, hounded by the press.
We then see various lights turning on in the dead of night at Balmoral, likely due to the media storm surrounding the tragic accident that killed Diana.

It's the beginning of the inevitable end. Throughout the course of its five previous seasons, "The Crown" has been steadily marching towards the tragic events that ended the life of Princess Diana, the world-famous media darling and sometimes-controversial member of the royal family who took pop culture by storm. Based on how many times Hollywood has told and retold this story over the years, the legacy surrounding the Princess of Wales hasn't abated at all with the passage of time. Director Pablo Larraín most recently cast Kristen Stewart in the role for the brilliant 2021 film "Spencer," and a year later it was Elizabeth Debicki's turn to step in, taking over for Emma Corrin (who previously portrayed the public figure in season 4) on the ever-popular Netflix series.
But nothing lasts forever, and Netflix is certainly keen on sending out "The Crown" with all the pomp and circumstance the streaming service can muster.

Netflix has released the trailer for Part 1 of the sixth and final season of “The Crown,” slated for release on Nov. 16.

The second half, consisting of six episodes and premiering Dec. 14, centers back on Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles. How will “The Crown” tackle the death of Princess Diana?
Fans of the Emmy-winning series are about to find out: Netflix just dropped the final season trailer, and it is centered on the moments and memories around that horrific 1997 car crash and funeral.
“I don’t really understand how I ended up here,” Elizabeth Debicki as Diana ponders via voiceover as cameras click away. “Dashing around, and losing sight of myself in the process.”
The somber trailer showcases the swelling chaos that consumed the family, the country, and the world following the announcement of her death alongside Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) in Paris. The curiosity factor alone should generate plenty of eyeballs for Season 6, which will feature Debicki returning as Princess Diana, as well as other Season 5 cast members including Dominic West as Prince Charles, Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret.

The Crown is signing off after six seasons later this year, but Netflix may not be done with the royal drama's universe.
In a new interview with Variety, series creator Peter Morgan has revealed there is a chance we could get a prequel series.
"I do have an idea," Morgan told the outlet.
"But first, I need to do some other things.
"Second, it would need a unique set of circumstances to come together."
Morgan is staying tight-lipped about the plot but believes it would take us back in time to before The Crown's Elizabeth II storyline.
"If I were to go back into The Crown," he shares, "it would definitely be to go back in time."

Keeping that universe alive would be something Netflix would be interested in.

Peter Morgan, the creator of Netflix’s sweeping Queen Elizabeth II series “The Crown,” is having a royal crisis.
Only a tiny contingent of people sworn to secrecy have seen the show’s sixth and final season, set to premiere in November. But somehow a tabloid — as is always the case with anything related to the royal family — has got hold of a scene in which Prince Charles talks to a vision of Diana after her death. “Diana’s Ghost to appear in The Crown’s final season,” screams a headline on the Daily Mail’s site. The online article quotes from the episode, in which Charles (played by Dominic West) tenderly converses with an imaginary Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) in the cabin of the royal plane as he accompanies her body from Paris to London. Later in the episode Diana also appears to Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth (Imelda Staunton).

"Uneasy," as the Bard once wrote, "lies the head that wears a crown." That sentiment is all over the new teaser for season six of, well, The Crown, which sees Imelda Staunton's Queen Elizabeth II walking through her chambers at Buckingham Palace, seemingly haunted by her past — in this case her younger self, as played by Claire Foy and Olivia Colman. She reflects on what the crown means, and what she has sacrificed for it. We, meanwhile, are informed that the season will debut in two parts, kicking off on 16 November. See the teaser:
The 6th and final season covers events from 1997 through 2005. The first four episodes (Part 1) depict a relationship blossoming between Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed before a fateful car journey has devastating consequences.
And the final chapter (Part 2) is told across six episodes. Prince William tries to integrate back into life at Eton in the wake...
