‘They Called Him Mostly Harmless’ Documentary Trailer
Image
The trailer for Max’s They Called Him Mostly Harmless teases the disturbing true story of the hunt for a deceased hiker’s identity. Premiering on the streaming service on February 8, 2024, the bizarre tale was directed by Emmy winner Patricia E. Gillespie (The Fire That Took Her) and features individuals directly involved in figuring out the mystery man’s identity.

“I was drawn to this story because of its potential to help us think more deeply about what it means to live in the digital age,” explained director Gillespie. “I hope we’ve made a film that manages to both honor the citizen detectives who worked tirelessly to identify Mostly Harmless, while encouraging audiences to get involved in the issue of unidentified persons.”

Max offers this description of the documentary:

“When an unidentified hiker is found deceased in the Florida wilderness, authorities release a sketch. Multiple hikers call in claiming to have met the man.

New House Democratic Leaders To Court Hollywood, L.A. Support At Event At Home Of Byron Allen
Image
Exclusive: The new House Democratic leadership will appear this week at an event at the home of Byron Allen and Jennifer Lucas as the party sets its sights on the 2024 cycle.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Minority Whip Katherine Clark and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar are scheduled for the Friday event, which is being billed as a “Dccc Political Update.” The event, organized by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, also will feature former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has been a powerhouse on the fundraising circuit. Also on the bill, according to an invite, is Dccc chairwoman Suzan DelBene, who represents a district in Washington.

With Congress out of session this week, the event is part of a fund-raising tour by the Democratic leaders, per Punchbowl News. The 2024 cycle naturally will focus on the presidential contest, but Democrats will be just five seats shy of winning back the majority in the House,...

House Democrats Select Hakeem Jeffries As Next Leader
Image
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-ny) was elected to lead House Democrats, becoming the first Black person to serve as head of a party in Congress.

Jeffries will succeed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as party leader, after she announced earlier this month that she would not seek the post after a 20-year tenure, telling members that the time had come for a new generation. Democrats will be in the minority in the next Congress, albeit Republicans will have only a slim majority following an unexpectedly weak showing in the midterms.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-ny) said that Jeffries ascension to the top role was a “turning point in the history of the United States Congress.”

He said that he has known Jeffries since before the days he was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 2006. “When I first met him I thought the same thing I thought when I...

New York Representative Hakeem Jeffries has been elected head of the House Democratic caucus, becoming the first Black lawmaker to lead a major American party in Congress.

Jeffries was elected in a unanimous, closed-door vote on Wednesday. Jeffies will become the House minority leader following the November midterm elections, in which Republicans managed to secure a slim House majority.

In his first press conference following his election, Jeffries said he stood “on the shoulders of people like Shirley Chisholm and so many others.” Chisholm, a Democrat, was the first Black...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday afternoon that she will not seek another term as her party’s top leader in the House of Representatives. Her decision ends the leadership career of the first woman to ever serve as Speaker of the House, paving the way for the first change in House Democratic leadership in two decades.

“Now we must move boldly into the future,” Pelosi said. “I will not seek reelection to Democratic leadership in the next Congress.” She confirmed, however, that she will continue to serve out her...
