The Legend Of Aang: The Last Airbender Recast Zuko, But True Fans Know To Chill Out About It
Image
It's been 20 years since "Avatar: The Last Airbender" revolutionized TV, and now the franchise is expanding. We've had comics and novels for a while now, with fantastic stories that expand the world of "Avatar" and paint a picture of different eras and different reincarnations of the titular master of all four elements. But now we're going back to the screen, both big and small, with a new sequel series as well as a movie, "The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender."

Directed by Lauren Montgomery, who worked as a storyboard artist in season 3 of the show, and then as a supervising producer on the entirety of "The Legend of Korra," details on "The Legend of Aang" are scarce, but we do know it is a set after the original series, but before "Korra," following the main cast as young adults. Studio Mir will return to work on the animation alongside Flying Bark Productions,...

'It Was Like a Mist Rolled' The Voice of Zuko Reveals The First Time He Met Fire Lord Ozai
Image
San Diego Comic-Con 2025 brought together the cast of Avatar: The Last Airbenderfor a special 20th-anniversary panel. Following the event, Cbr hosted a round table with the cast, including Zach Tyler Eisen, Jack DeSena, Michaela Jill Murphy, Jennie Kwan, Janet Varney and Dante Basco -- the respective voices of Aang, Sokka, Toph, Suko, Korra and Zuko.

While a variety of subjects were discussed, including the newly unveiled Avatar: Seven Havens, one of the more curious topics to come up was Basco's first meeting with his on-screen father, Mark Hamill. The first meeting between Prince Zuko and Fire Lord Ozai's voice actors wasn't the type of experience one might expect for the younger star.

Atla's Toph Actor Had Such A Tearjerker Interaction With A Fan, It Changed How She Attends Fan Conventions
Image
Two decades after the landmark animated fantasy series premiered, Avatar: The Last Airbender still has an unshakable presence in the cultural zeitgeist. This is evidenced by the fact that the original voice cast was in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con, and one actor in particular shared a heartwarming story illustrating how the show has shaped lives.

Netflix's live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender has been renewed for seasons 2 and 3, but it just hasn't had the same impact as the original. At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, several members of the original cast participated in the Avatar: The Last Airbender 20th Anniversary panel, where some first looks at Avatar: Seven Havens were shared.

Additionally, while speaking with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan, Toph's original voice, Michaela Jill Murphy, shared an emotional story of a recent interaction with a fan. Murphy revealed that meeting this person, who had lost her vision, emphasized...

Image
At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, the voice of Avatar: The Last Airbender's Sokka, Jack DeSenna, reunited with his past co-stars for both a 20th-anniversary panel, along with a round-table discussion organized by Cbr. During the latter, DeSenna revealed some surprising information regarding what Sokka was originally like and the influence his performance had on him.

Sokka is one of the most popular Avatar characters of all time, but he nearly wasn't the character fans know and love. The artwork was revealed at San Diego Comic Con on Thursday, where “Avatar” celebrated its 20th anniversary.

“Seven Havens” follows two Earthbending twins when one discovers she’s the Avatar, the latest person who can wield all four elements — air, water, earth and fire. The new series is set in “a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Cast Thinks Zutara Should've Happened: "They Could've Snuck in a Kiss" [Exclusive]
Image
Avatar: The Last Airbender was always meant to end with Aang and Katara together. From the moment the young Avatar was freed from the ice, creators Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko built up their relationship as the water bender became the one member of the Gaang he could lean on the most for support. All the battles and adventures across the four nations eventually culminated in the final scene of Book 3, where, with the war with the Fire Nation finally behind them, they sealed their love with a kiss. However, fans have always envisioned Katara hooking up with a different suitor in a perfect enemies-to-lovers scenario — Zuko. Even over 20 years since the series premiered, Zutara hopes are still alive, and, at Fan Expo Denver, Dante Basco and Mae Whitman were all too ready to lean into them. Well, at least Basco was.

'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Star Shares Her Hopes for Toph's Romantic Future in 'The Legend of Aang'

20 years since Nickelodeon first aired Avatar: The Last Airbender, the hit animated fantasy franchise has been more active than ever of late. Netflix's live-action adaptation has a second season on the way, and the first new series since Avatar: The Legend of Korra ended in 2014 is on its way with Avatar: Seven Havens coming in 2027 at the earliest. For those looking to see the original Gaang back together again, however, the project to watch for is The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender. Due out in late 2026, the film will pick up with Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Zuko as adults, years after Aang rose to the occasion and defeated Fire Lord Ozai. A new era means a chance to explore a new side of these characters not seen extensively in either Avatar series, and Michaela Jill Murphy has some ideas for her blind earthbender.

Why Is Azula's Fire Blue In Avatar: The Last Airbender?
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

"Avatar: The Last Airbender" rose to a whole other level of greatness in its second, and some would say best, season. ("Book 2: Earth.") A lot of that comes down to two new characters the show introduced to its ensemble.

The heroes got a new teammate: Toph (Michaela Jill Murphy), the blind earthbending prodigy. But they also had a new threat to contend with: Fire Nation Princess Azula (Grey DeLisle), who was hunting both Avatar Aang (Zach Tyler Eisen) and her exiled brother Prince Zuko (Dante Basco). Smart, powerful, and ruthless, Azula is seemingly the "perfect princess." She's a firebending prodigy and success comes naturally to her.

Another detail that sets Azula apart is her firebending. In "Avatar," where people can bend one of the four classical elements, Firebenders transmute fire out of their own breath and chi and then control the flames.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Casting Director Reveals Why Original Cast Isn't Returning for New Movie

The casting director for The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbenderdiscusses not bringing back the original series' voice cast for the next Avatar animated feature.

When asked why the original voice cast didn't return for the upcoming film, Jue explained, "Since the original show was released, there’s been more emphasis in Vo to match actors’ ethnic/racial background to the characters they’re portraying. Netflix's 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Will Make More Changes to Toph, Reveals Actress Maya Cech

Season 2 of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender will introduce one of the best characters from the original Nickelodeon series, Toph Beifong. Maya Cech (Marshmellow) will bring Toph to life in Netflix's live-action universe, with many fans excited to see the blind Earthbender on screen once again. When Cech was cast, she revealed that Netflix would be making some minor changes to the character, mainly aging her up to fit with the rest of Team Avatar. I Was Ready to Give Netflix’s ‘Avatar’ a Second Chance But Toph Decision Makes It Clear Why the Original Showrunners Left
Image
When Netflix first announced a live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender, fans were apprehensive since live-action versions of pretty much any project are doomed to be a disappointment more often than not. Well, while the first season was somewhat well-received, the second season is already creating controversy before its release.

I was cautiously optimistic about giving the series another chance after not-so-bad of a first season. However, the recent revelations made about Toph’s character in the upcoming season 2 reveal a troubling shift in vision, which underscores why the Og creators walked away from the Netflix series.

Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender has a problematic take on Toph A still from Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender

Michael Dante Dimartini and Bryan Konietzko‘s original Avatar series is no less than a masterpiece of storytelling, world-building, and character development, which is why it remains popular even today. However,...

Avatar Fans Aren't Happy About One Change To Netflix's Live-Action Toph
Image
You're not going to believe this, but fans of a beloved original series are once again freaking out about changes made to an upcoming adaptation. No, I'm not talking about gamers and their complicated relationship with "The Last of Us" season 2 (although there's sure to be plenty where that came from in the weeks ahead). This time, the discourse de jour revolves around the second season of Netflix's live-action "Avatar: The Last Airbender" series and a somewhat unexpected new take on a fan-favorite character yet to be introduced: the Earthbender Toph.

Fans of the original Nickelodeon cartoon know that the Aang Gang wasn't complete until Book 2 of the series introduced Toph Beifong, the incredibly stubborn and initially off-putting hero voiced by actor Michaela Jill Murphy. Blind from birth but gifted with extraordinarily powerful abilities, she quickly won over fans and even became a key mentor for the Airbender Aang...

Netflix’s Live-Action Avatar Will Show a More Feminine Side of Toph, Says Miya Cech
Image
Netflix is bringing Avatar: The Last Airbender to life again — this time with real actors — and fans already know there will be some changes. One big change is coming to a fan-favorite character: Toph Beifong.

In the original animated series, Toph was known as a tough, tomboyish Earthbender. She was strong, confident, and didn’t care much about being “girly.” But in the live-action version, actress Miya Cech says things will be a little different.

Speaking with The Direct on the red carpet for her new movie Marshmellow, Miya Cech shared what to expect from her version of Toph. She said that the character will be:

“A little older and slightly more feminine. I feel like I wanted to work into a very humanizing space for her because, you know, she was a cartoon.”

Cech is also making sure she stays true to the spirit of the character. She talked about meeting Michaela Jill Murphy,...

Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbenderand The Legend of Korrahave much to look forward to as the story continues in a new animated series. Netflix's official engagement report was released a few days ago, offering a comprehensive account of what Netflix members have watched from January to June in 2024. 10 Amazing Fantasy TV Shows With The Most Satisfying Endings
Image
Not all fantasy TV shows deliver impressive endings, but some like "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" do. High-budget fantasy projects may not always justify their costs, as seen in canceled Netflix shows and divisive finales like "Game of Thrones." A great fantasy show ending ties up loose ends, provides satisfying character conclusions, and aligns with the series' overarching themes.

Fantasy TV shows have a strong appeal, as they allow viewers to step into the extraordinary but not all of them deliver impressive endings. Sadly, many fantasy TV series never have endings at all. Netflix has canceled many fantasy shows in recent years, and it isn't the only streaming service or network to do so.
