Laura Leighton, Alexis Denisof join 'Pretty Little Liars'
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Laura Leighton and Alexis Denisof have joined ABC Family's pilot "Pretty Little Liars." Also cast in liars are Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, newcomer Shay Mitchell, Jean Louisa Kelly and Nia Peeples. In other ABC pilot castings, Tracey Fairway and Nick Robinson have joined Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence in their untitled comedy. Vanessa Marano and Chloe Bridges will star opposite Scott Cohen and Stephanie Childers the untitled Michael Jacobs comedy. Laura Leighton and Alexis Denisof have joined the cast of ABC Family's hourlong pilot "Pretty Little Liars."

Ashley Benson, newcomer Shay Mitchell, Jean Louisa Kelly and Nia Peeples also have been cast in "Liars," joining Lucy Hale and Troian Bellisario.

In other ABC pilot castings, Tracey Fairway and Nick Robinson have joined Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence in their multicamera comedy "Melissa and Joey," and Vanessa Marano and Chloe Bridges have landed starring roles opposite Scott Cohen and Stephanie Childers the untitled Michael Jacobs single-camera comedy.

"Liars," based on Alloy Entertainment's series of novels, revolves around four teen girls -- Aria (Hale), Emily (Mitchell), Spencer (Bellisario) and Hanna (Benson) -- who begin to receive mysterious messages, seemingly from a girlfriend who disappeared three years before.

Leighton ("Melrose Place") will play Hanna's mother. Denisof ("Angel") will play Aria's father, with Kelly ("Yes, Dear") and Peeples also playing parents.

Scott Cohen and Stephanie Childers have been tapped to star in ABC Family's untitled Michael Jacobs comedy pilot.

Meanwhile, Troian Bellisario and Ian Harding have joined Lucy Hale in the network's drama pilot "Pretty Little Liars."

Jacobs' single-camera project centers on a recently laid-off architect (Cohen) who begins to mentor his underdog middle daughter, while his veterinarian wife (Childers) shares a closer bond with their Type-a older daughter.

"Gilmore Girls" alum Cohen is repped by Gersh and One Entertainment. Childers ("Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip") is with Domain and Schachter Entertainment.

"Liars," based on Alloy Entertainment's series of novels, revolves around teenagers Aria (Hale), Emily, Spencer (Bellisario) and Hanna, who begin to receive mysterious messages, seemingly from their girlfriend who disappeared three years before.

Harding, who graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in the spring, will play a recent college grad who becomes Aria's high school teacher and gets in a relationship with her.

Christina Applegate is returning to series television as the star of ABC's comedy pilot Sam I Am. Jean Smart also has joined the project.

Meanwhile, Amy Brenneman and Merrin Dungey have been cast in the potential Grey's Anatomy spinoff.

Additionally, Michael Rapaport has been tapped as the male lead in CBS' comedy pilot Fugly, Melanie Griffith has signed on for a potential recurring role on CBS' Viva Laughlin! Diedrich Bader has been tapped to co-star opposite Stephen Dorff in CBS' drama pilot Skip Tracer, Stephanie Childers has landed the female lead in ABC's comedy pilot American Family, Jamey Sheridan has joined CBS' drama pilot Babylon Fields and Ty Burrell has joined Fox's comedy pilot Action News.

Sam, from ABC TV Studio and Brillstein-Grey TV, centers on a woman (Applegate) with amnesia who has to rediscover her life. Smart will play her self-absorbed mother.

Applegate had been heavily pursued to star in a series since the end of her previous show, NBC's Jesse, but this is the first pilot she has agreed to do. The Married With Children alumna won an Emmy for her guest-starring role on NBC's Friends. Her feature credits include The Sweetest Thing, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Employee of the Month. She is repped by CAA, Management 360 and attorney Stephen Warren.
