In 2023, the action thriller Mercy was pummeled by critics, getting slapped with a rare and unwanted Rotten Tomatoes score of 0%. However, the film is getting another chance with Netflix subscribers two years after its release.

Per FlixPatrol, Mercy is currently ranked at No. 7 on Netflix's Top 10 chart for feature films, globally. The film was not a big success upon its release in theaters on May 12, 2023. Its reception was especially harsh, given the 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and its audience score is only good by direct comparison, as it's also rather low at 17%. The movie was acknowledged at the 44th Golden Raspberry Awards (aka the Razzies), when Jon Voight "won" the award for Worst Actor.

Dune: Prophecy is an ensemble series with actors from various backgrounds. Telling the story of the creation of the Bene Gesserit, the show features a leading cast including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds, Travis Fimmel, and Jodhi May. The Dune franchise show got decent reviews overall, and recently wrapped up its tenure on Max. Earlier this week, Dune: Prophecy season 2 was officially confirmed, allowing the creators to continue the space-set story.

Dune: Prophecy star Travis Fimmel's highly underrated video-game adaptation will soon arrive on the same streaming platform as his Dune universe project. 2016's Warcraft will hit Max on January 1.

Directed by Duncan Jones, who co-wrote the script with Charles Leavitt, the action-fantasy movie follows Fimmel's Anduin Lothar of Stormwind and Durotan of the Frostwolf clan, a renegade orc portrayed by Toby Kebell. The two heroes are set on opposite sides of a growing war, as the warlock Gul'dan (Daniel Wu) leads the Horde to invade Azeroth using a magic portal. Humans and dissenting orcs must work together to confront the true evil that threatens them all. Warcraft's cast also includes Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Ben Schnetzer, Robert Kazinsky, Clancy Brown, and Terry Notary. Arrow and, in turn, the "Arrowverse", has no shortage of supervillains living within it. With the film out now on Apple TV, Prime Video, and other Digital platforms via Giant Pictures, we caught up with co-writer/director/co-producer Tony Dean Smith and co-writer/producer Ryan W. Smith in a new Q&a feature to discuss how real-life epiphanies shaped the movie's story, filming grueling night shoots in Vancouver, and collaborating with friends and family to make their movie a reality.

Thanks for taking the time to catch up with us, and congratulations on Volition! How and when did you come up with the idea for this film?

Tony Dean Smith: The kernel for Volition came to me in film school. Back then it was a short film about a scientist who was always late, but who then stumbles upon...

In “Volition,” an action/science fiction hybrid, Adrian Glynn McMorran plays a guy who can see into the future. “Precognition,” he calls it. It’s too bad McMorran couldn’t tap into those same powers of prophecy to save himself from taking this messy role.

When the story begins, James (McMorran) is sorting out a series of future events that pop into his head. He imagines his scruffy landlord badgering him for rent…a woman… a couple of old friends…diamonds… a gunshot.

Giant Pictures has debuted an official trailer for an indie sci-fi thriller titled Volition, which won the Best Feature award at the Philip K. Dick Film Festival last year. The word "volition" means "a choice or decision made by the will"; making the choice for yourself. The film is about a man afflicted with clairvoyance who tries to change his fate when a series of events leads to a vision of his own imminent murder. An interesting twist. It's described as a "tightly-wound puzzle of a ride", and a "mind-bending science-fiction thriller, where the line between fate and free-will blurs." Starring Adrian Glynn McMorran, Magda Apanowicz, John Cassini, Frank Cassini, Aleks Paunovic, and Bill Marchant. Not really sure what to make of this from this trailer, there's a lot going on but not a lot of it makes sense at first.

When you know your world is predetermined, it’s hard to care about your choices. This is true for James Odin. On a rain-soaked night in 1991, two cars collide, leaving all drivers dead on the scene, including the mother of the lone survivor — a child — James Odin. It’s a tragedy. But what’s more tragic is that seven-year-old James foresaw the accident happening two months prior. He tried to prevent it, but who’s going to believe a kid who claims to see the future? Twenty-plus years later, James is a product of the failed foster care system.

One of my favourite reasons for attending the Whistler Film Festival year-after-year is to discover great Canadian films that are still flying under the radar and while some years turn out better than others, 2019 was definitely one of the highlights, in part because of Volition.
