Daredevil: Born Again, so far, has managed to impress critics and fans alike, despite the departure that it too from its Netflix counterpart. With Karen Page and Foggy Nelson swiftly departing the narrative for various reasons, Matt has managed to develop and maintain a completely new set of comrades in Born Again.

However, one connection seems to have been a little awkward for fans to witness, given the writing for the character leaves out some huge gaps that don’t make sense. With more reviews counted, Daredevil: Born Again's score on Rotten Tomatoes has risen. As we write this, it has an 87% score on the Tomatometer and 80% from fans on the Popcornmeter.

Speaking with Phase Hero host Brandon Davis, episode director Jeff Nachmanoff revealed what it was like pairing Murdock with Ms. Marvel patriarch Yusuf Khan in a bottle episode that forces them to thwart a bank robbery on St. Patrick's Day. According to Nachmanoff, credit goes to executive producer Sana Amanat, who co-created Kamala Khan and produced the Disney+ adaptation featuring Mohan Kapur as Kamala's father, adding that Amanat "helped me understand what Yusuf's background was and the tone of that other show was much lighter and much more comedic."

It’s Saint Paddy’s Day in Daredevil: Born Again’s fifth episode. A driving Irish jig plays us in upon a city swept up in dark beer and merrymaking. The fun is cut short, though, when a group of robbers led by the brutal gangster Devlin stick up New York Mutual. Devlin and his team take hostages in their attempt to steal a valuable amber diamond from the bank’s vault.

A few minutes before the heist commences, Matthew Murdock is trying to renegotiate his law firm’s loan. He shares some snappy yet down-to-earth dialogue with the assistant bank manager, a wholesome man named Yusuf Khan, who regrets to inform him that the law firm does not meet the bank’s loan criteria because of how many “unprofitable” (read: pro bono) clients it takes on.

Depending who you ask, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is always in the right place at the right time, or the wrong place at the wrong time. “Daredevil: Born Again” sends our allegedly retired hero into the thick of a bank robbery — one that he had just narrowly escaped before diving back into the fray.

Because as much as he wants to protect himself, his loved ones, and the city he calls home, those aren’t the real reasons why he can never fully give up Daredevil; the fact is, he can’t stay away.

Episode 5, “With Interest,” directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff and written by Grainne Godfree, is bookended by scenes of Matt and Yusuf Khan (Mohan Kapur), a nice little crossover with Daredevil’s neighbor across the river, “Ms. Marvel.” Matt is looking for a loan for his firm, and while Yusuf can’t approve it, he can’t help but like the guy.

Daredevil: Born Again's fifth episode, "With Interest," was directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff and has proven to be surprisingly divisive since hitting Disney+ yesterday evening. 

The filmmaker also helmed last week's "Sic Semper Systema," but this bottle episode - a largely standalone instalment of a series typically filmed in a single location, often with a minimal cast - seems to either be drawing rave reviews or harsh criticisms. 

Talking to Phase Hero, Nachmanoff reflected on shooting Matt Murdock's team-up with Ms. Marvel's father, Yusuf Khan, and confirmed that "With Interest" is the only episode of Daredevil: Born Again not to have been tinkered with during the creative overhaul. 

"This episode is the only completely untouched episode, I believe, from the original version of the show before we went back and reworked it," he explained. "You can feel that. It has that bottle episode feel because it's just Matt for the most part.

Daredevil: Born Again dropped a double episode this weekend, and it marks a crucial turning point in the series. While the series won over many Marvel fans, some of them were frustrated at the absence of significant action sequences from Charlie Cox as Daredevil. For the first four episodes, Cox had been struggling with his vigilante identity after Foggy’s death.

However, episodes 5 and 6 saw him taking on the vigilante identity once again to stop a serial killer named Muse. It was a wise decision from Disney to drop the two episodes together, as the fifth episode felt more like a filler. However, the sixth episode was the perfect episode that fans have been waiting for since the series premiered on March 4.

The Disney+ show Daredevil: Born Again is largely a sequel to the Netflix series and only has some references to the MCU. Daredevil has mostly been a street-level hero and I was quite happy to not see multiversal or cosmic shenanigans in the MCU after a long time. "Daredevil: Born Again" has an interesting way to deal with its Marvel Cinematic Universe references. Episode 5 of Marvel Studios' "Daredevil: Born Again" is set on St. Patrick's Day; it opens with a quick-cut montage of New York City bustling with green spirit, set to a cover of "The Rocky Road to Dublin."
