Stephen Cognetti has written and directed every entry in the Hell House LLC found footage horror franchise, which began in 2015 and currently consists of Hell House LLC, Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel, Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire, and the recently released Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor. In an interview last year, Cognetti said that while he wants to make more Hell House movies, he’s hoping to secure higher budgets and move away about from the found footage style for future installments… Now, he’s working on a new entry in the Hell House franchise, Hell House LLC: Lineage, which he has said might be the final (but scariest) chapter for this series, and this film has indeed ditched the found footage approach. Coming our way from Terror Films, Hell House LLC: Lineage is expected to reach the Shudder streaming service in October...

When it comes to found footage horror franchises, the one that immediately pops into most people's minds is the Paranormal Activity series. However, in 2015 one came along that, while not as universally recognized, found its way into the hearts of genre fans, and has gone on to become a cult favorite. Written and directed by Stephen Cognetti, Hell House LLC redefined what a found footage horror movie could be, and as such, it went on to spawn three sequels that were equally terrifying. Now, Cognetti is at it again with the fifth entry in the saga, Hell House LLC: Lineage, which ditches the found footage format for what could be the final film in the series.
The new trailer for Hell House LLC: Lineage was released today (seen below), and showcases what's to come when the horror sequel makes its premiere on August 20. Once more featuring Elizabeth Vermilyea, Cayla Berejikian,...

Hell House LLC: Lineage has set an August 20 theatrical release date via Iconic Events, as revealed in the new teaser below.
Haunted by visions and recurring nightmares years after a near-death experience, Vanessa Shepard finds herself living in the town of Abaddon, unable to break free from its unexplainable hold on her. When people around her suddenly and inexplicably begin to die, she soon uncovers her terrifying connection to the Abaddon Hotel, the Carmichael Manor and the mysterious murders that have been occurring for decades.
Writer-director Stephen Cognetti said that the franchise’s fifth installment “will likely be the last but also the scariest Hell House.”
Unlike the prior entries — 2015’s Hell House LLC, 2018’s Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel, 2019’s Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire, and 2023’s Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor — this one is a traditionally-shot narrative rather than a found footage movie.

Hell House LLC may be about to close down, but the team behind the underrated horror franchise is ready to send it out with a bang. After four installments sent directly to video-on-demand or streaming services, director Stephen Cognetti is taking his latest and final film, Hell House LLC: Lineage, to theaters with help from Iconic Events Releasing. The film will arrive on the big screen in August, though an exact date has yet to be announced. Afterwards, it's set to premiere exclusively on the franchise's longtime streaming home Shudder in October, just in time for Halloween.
Handled by Terror Films Releasing, Lineage is billed as the final chapter of the nearly decade-long found-footage series, which is largely based around the fictional titular haunted house attraction and the people who once worked there. The clown is back in the first images from Hell House LLC: Lineage.
Unlike the series’ prior entries — 2015’s Hell House LLC, 2018’s Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel, 2019’s Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire, and 2023’s Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor — this one is a traditionally-shot narrative rather than a found footage movie.
Writer-director Stephen Cognetti said that the fifth installment “will likely be the last but also the scariest Hell House.”
The film will continue to dive deeper into the backstories of various characters within the franchise while introducing new characters and storylines.

Cognetti said, “I make references to this event in a few of the movies, including this one, but also the third one as well is what happened at the Rockland County Fair, back in the day. That’s something I always talk about, this event, and never really making it.

Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor is the best movie in the franchise yet, breaking from tradition and pointing to a bright future for the series. The new setting of the Carmichael Manor provides a fresh atmosphere and new lore, building real edge-of-your-seat tension and delivering the series' scariest entry yet. The fourth film connects to the first three movies through references to the Abaddon Hotel and delves into the origins of the haunting clown costumes, leaving room for future franchise movies to explore new settings while still digging into established lore.
This 8-year-old horror franchise quietly released its best movie yet. While newcomers to the Hell House LLC franchise probably missed the launch of the latest franchise film altogether, they shouldn't sleep on this surprisingly solid installment. The first film in director Stephen Cognetti's found-footage horror series hit streaming platforms in 2016 after making some waves at the Telluride Horror Show.

The fourth film in the Hell House LLC franchise, Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor tells a layered, compelling, and frightening story equipped with clever plotting and well-timed scares. Set before the events of the original 2015 film, The Carmichael Manor adds more mythology to the franchise while holding on to the lean DIY roots of the first film. The clowns are as scary as ever, and an interesting side plot set in 1989 adds depth to this haunted house story.
Once again written and directed by Stephen Cognetti, Hell House LLC Origins begins with a faux-documentary featuring talking heads discussing the fates of Margot (Bridget Rose Perrotta), an online sleuth, and her girlfriend Rebecca (Destiny Leilani Brown). The film then dives head-first into the last footage of the women alive, in which Margot drags Rebecca to the infamous Carmichael Manor, where a family was once brutally murdered. As Margot,...

It is exciting to be alive in the 21st century in part because it's when the "Hell House LLC" movies started coming out. I didn't say how big a part.
Starting with 2015's "Hell House LLC" and extending now through four films, writer-director Stephen Cognetti has achieved a rare thing worth celebrating: the creation of an original film franchise that gained word-of-mouth recognition without studio support. A close peer in this space would be "Terrifier," the series of ultra-bloody killer clown films writer-director Damien Leone has been piloting into the world since the 2008 short "The 9th Circle." "Hell House" hasn't been going for quite as long and consists of haunted house films, not slashers. But it's another difference between the franchises that's most salient to raise for this discussion of "Hell House's" latest: the "Terrifier" movies have only been getting better, while the "Hell House" films have gotten worse.

When I reviewed Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire, I said it seemed they had taken the franchise as far as it could go. Writer/director Stephen Cognetti seems to have had the same thought because, as you can probably tell from the title, Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor provides some backstory to the events at the hotel rather than being another extension of the saga.
In 1989 The Carmichael Manor was the scene of a baffling and brutal crime. Two members of the family were killed in their beds. The other two, father Arthur Carmichael (Robert Savakinus) and his son Patrick (Stephen Cognetti; The Hid) were missing. But there was only one set of footprints in the snow outside the house, presumably those of Arthur, who was thought to be the killer.

Writer/Director Stephen Cognetti may have finally closed the door on the hellish Abaddon Hotel in the previous installment of the cult horror franchise Hell House LLC, but the saga isn’t over. The fourth entry, Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor, introduces a new setting entirely to set the stage for the next chapter. Cognetti cleverly expands the mythology while returning to the atmospheric foreboding and scares that made the original film such a cult favorite in the first place. While The Carmichael Manor feels like a refreshing return to form, it’s also clear that this franchise is ready to leave the shackles of the found footage format in the past.
It’s 2021. Cold case internet detective Margot (Bridget Rose Perrotta), along with girlfriend Rebecca (Destiny Leilani Brown) and troubled brother Chase (James Liddell), travel to Rockland County, New York, to spend five nights at the reportedly haunted Carmichael Manor.

Three intrepid film-makers set out to investigate spooky goings-on at a remote property. If you suspect this plot was worn out, you’d be wrong
It’s to Hell House franchise creator Stephen Cognetti’s credit that this fourth film in the series manages to lovingly revivify two horror tropes usually to be found mouldering at the back of the genre closet: the found-footage expedition and demonic clowns. That is partly on account of the mythology he has accrued over the last three instalments, centring on occult goings-on at the Abaddon Hotel on New York’s rural outskirts; it is embroidered and deepened by this quasi-prequel, helping fit out those cliches with an unsettlingly long shadow.
Everything in the film is framed by a group of documentary-style talking heads, discussing the tragic attempt of their friend Margot (Bridget Rose Perrotta) to make a true-crime exposé of the Carmichael Manor. This is the site of what,...
