Michael Fassbender's hit streaming series, The Agency, is getting a second season on Paramount+. Despite mixed reviews, the spy thriller was a hit for the streaming platform in 2024, making the quick Season 2 renewal a no-brainer, especially considering the star-studded cast. However, The Agency will return with a bevy of new faces, and a new title to more accurately reflect the future of the series.
Paramount+ announced that five actors have been cast in The Agency Season 2, which is currently filming in London, England. Those joining the series include Christian Ochoa Lavernia (Silo), Clayne Crawford (Chad Powers), Keanush Tafreshi (V/H/S/99), Medalion Rahimi (Hacks), Raza Jaffrey (Homeland) and Tessa Ferrer (Swagger). Production momentum is building for The AgencySeason 2, with a fresh update that should ignite excitement among fans of the espionage thriller. Showtime and Paramount+ announced in December 2024 that the series was renewed for a second season following rave reviews and an overwhelmingly positive reception. The decision was on the backs of the series' record-breaking debut, which garnered over 5.1 million cross-platform viewers, making it the most-streamed new series in Showtime's history.
Executive Producer Joe Wright, known for his work on films likeAtonementand Hanna, has expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season. If The AgencySeason 1 was a fraught, anxiety-inducing experience, brace yourself for an even tenser Season 2. Michael Fassbender stars in and executive produces the Showtime spy thriller show, and he recently appeared on a Deadline panel where he discussed the much-anticipated second season. The show improves on its first season as the spy world becomes even more secretive and the stakes are upped. "It just doesn’t let up in Season 2. The walls just keep coming in, and the vice grip keeps getting tightened," the actor said. "That tension and that jeopardy just heightens all the way through without any let up in the second season," he added, teasing a never-wracking second season. The show was already renewed for a new season that is currently in production.

[This article contains major spoilers from the season finale of The Agency, “Overtaken by Events.”]
The season one finale of The Agency ends with Michael Fassbender’s Martian in nearly the same emotional space as he was when the show began: longing to be reunited with Dr. Samia Zahir (Jodie Turner-Smith), the Sudanese anthropology professor he fell in love with while stationed as a CIA operative in Ethiopia.
However, their inability to be together is no longer just a matter of distance and duty to one’s country, as it once was when Martian ended their relationship upon returning to his post in London to resume life under the cover of Paul Lewis. It’s now one of life and death, as Martian’s failed attempt to recruit Samia to the CIA has not only put her life in danger but also his own when he agrees to become a double agent for the U.K.’s Secret Intelligence Service...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Agency” Season 1, Episode 10, “Overtaken By Events.”]
The finale of “The Agency,” Showtime’s espionage thriller from writers John-Henry and Jez Buttersworth, opens on Michael Fassbender concealing his face. The man they call Martian is revving up his motorcycle, so he pushes down his black helmet and slides the visor shut over his eyes. In the moment, it’s a practical matter, but later, when he’s struck by a passing car and thrown from his bike, the habitual safety choice becomes another stark reminder of what’s at stake for our lovelorn spy: If he wants to survive, he has to hide his identity. Always. Without fail.
Throughout the 10-episode first season of “The Agency,” adapted from the 2015 French series “Le Bureau des Legendes,” Martian has to mask his true intentions in order to get what he wants. Sometimes, it’s for work, like when he’s trying to...

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for The Agency episode 8I have to preface this review by saying that, while I am aware that The Agency is based on a successful French TV series, Le Bureau des Légendes, I have never watched the original. As such, while some watching Michael Fassbender's new spy series could more or less know where things are headed, I'm in the dark as to what the original series showcased in its first season finale and subsequent seasons. I preferred it that way to be able to judge The Agency on its own, and episode 9 has set up a finale I can't wait for.
The Agency is a 2024 espionage thriller following covert CIA agent Martian, who is recalled to London Station, disrupting his undercover life. As a former romance rekindles, Martian's career and true identity are jeopardized, leading him into a high-stakes world of international intrigue and deception.

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for The Agency episode 8I continue to be impressed by how much I am enjoying The Agency after a slower first batch of episodes. The start of the season was important to set up a few mysteries that would be unraveled throughout its freshman outing. While I predicted how some of those storylines would turn out, most of them have panned out in quite surprising ways. The show's psychological games are exciting to watch and Michael Fassbender consistently delivers excellent performances as Martian — one of my favorite characters of his — as his life continues to change before his eyes.

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for The Agency episode 7.The Agency is ramping up nicely as the season goes along. The second half of season 1 has solved most of the problems I had at the start of the show, and the series' slower pace helps with great character development. While that formula does not necessarily translate to major thrills every episode, I have come to enjoy how the show builds tension in different ways. The psychological games played in episode 7 more than make up for its brief displays of action and they are more than enough to keep us engaged.

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for The Agency episode 6.After a slow start to the series, The Agency's last couple of episodes have been picking up the pace considerably. I guess that's the whole point of a slow-burn TV show — setting up many threads to be unraveled as the season goes along. Well, I can definitely say that it's working for The Agency. Last week's episode 5 brought an exciting new dynamic to the show. Michael Fassbender's Martian was still at the center of the hour, but The Agency also focused on two other characters, and I loved it.

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for The Agency episode 5.
After a slower episode last time around, The Agency episode 5 did a great job of adding tension to the series and progressing several characters' stories. The previous episode focused more on Danny as she started her undercover assignment, with the character choosing to accept Reza's inappropriate advances. This comes back to play a role in the show's new hour, though I did not expect where her story would go from there. As for Michael Fassbender's Martian, episode 4 saw his cover blown.

The Agency Episode 4 Review: Martian's Inability To Let Go Of The Past Could Be His Ultimate Undoing
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for The Agency episode 4.When I first heard about The Agency, I did not expect that Michael Fassbender's new spy series would be so much of a slow burn. Still, with every new episode of the series, I become more intrigued about the nuances of his character, Martian. Episode 4 of The Agency dives deeper into the political aspect of the series. Action is not an important part of the episode — nor the series, really — but things do start to ramp up on different fronts, which makes me excited about further developments over the rest of the season.

Days after debuting, a new spy thriller has quickly established itself as a hit. The subgenre is experiencing a bit of a resurgence in streaming, with shows like Peacock's The Day of the Jackal, the Apple TV+ dramedy Slow Horses, and Netflix's recent Black Doves which stars Keira Knightley and Ben Winshaw. Each of those shows comes from a notably different storytelling angle, though they've all managed to stand out. Boosted by positive reviews, Black Doves may be among the best yet, a thriller that unfolds over the Christmas holidays and features a hilariously abrupt kill scene early on.

The Agency has scored a quick Season 2 renewal at Showtime after a monster debut weekend.
The first two episodes of the espionage thriller have racked up 5.1M global “viewers” on streaming and linear since premiering on November 29. Paramount Global says it’s Showtime’s most-streamed new series in history, though streaming-specific numbers weren’t available.
(While Paramount is touting viewers, it’s important to note that, on Paramount+, the company can’t determine how many people are watching via a single stream, or if anyone is actually watching at all. This likely means that Paramount is using “active sub households” as a proxy for streaming viewers.)

The Agency is based on a French TV series, Le Bureau des Lgendes. The original show ran for five seasons, amassing several awards along the way, which means Michael Fassbender might be in for the long haul if the English-language adaptation finds similar success with its first season. The Agency follows Fassbender's "Martian," an undercover CIA agent who is called back to London Station after spending years on a mission. Things get out of control when a woman from his past reappears, leading to his real identity and undercover life clashing as more mysteries begin to form.

Since Top Chef is such a great reality show that it is one of the best competition shows ever, it has many devoted fans who love talking about it. For example, fans are interested in whether Alex Reznik stole a dish, how Leah Cohen destroyed her love life on the show, and about Paul Qui's disturbing arrest. Fans also love talking about the show's hosts, including why Katie Lee Biegel realized the show wasn't for her and what Padma Lakshmi said about why the show was tough for her.
On top of wanting to know all they can about the show, many Top Chef fans love to debate with each other. With that in mind, it is fascinating that many fans agree about who the show's best chefs who never won are.

Michael Fassbender first suited up as X-Men villain Magneto in 2011. While his four-movie tenure ended in 2019 with X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the actor is open to reprising the role.
Speaking to Collider, Fassbender cited the success of Deadpool & Wolverine as the reason for wanting to play Magneto again. "Well, you know, I loved working with Hugh [Jackman]," he said. The Agency gets its first trailer, teasing an intense spy thriller series starring Michael Fassbender. Serving as an English-language remake of French series The Bureau, The Agency stars Fassbender as Martian, a CIA operative who finds himself unraveling in the midst of a dangerous operation. The show also stars Richard Gere, Jeffrey Wright, Katherine Waterston, and Jodie Turner-Smith, and is set to premiere on Showtime on November 29.
The official Showtime YouTube channel now releases the first trailer for The Agency, revealing more details about the show. The trailer teases that Fassbender's character won't just be facing external threats due to his undercover work in the CIA, but that his own agency could be hanging him out to dry. The footage in the trailer is careful not to reveal too much, and certainly teases that there's more going on here in terms of what Martian is trying to accomplish and what triggered his shift in consciousness.
