Backstage at the 2022 Critics Choice Documentary Awards: Show gets upgrade to NYC Times Square
Image
“Good Night Oppy” lived up to its name. The space doc about rovers on Mars took the top honors at the 7th Annual Critics Choice Awards in midtown Manhattan. The move from Brooklyn (where the show had been produced for the last six years) was an upgrade. “Take a look around the Edison Ballroom,” ‘Oppy’ filmmaker Ryan White said. “It was a theater for over 60 years and did ‘Oh Calcutta’ for 13 years. Totally nude with sex-related sketches written by Sam Shepard, Samuel Beckett, Jules Feiffer and John Lennon.” Okay, yes, this place in the Edison Hotel is cooler.

Comic Wyatt Cenac hosted. “Keep making good stuff,” he told the audience. “So next year we don’t have to turn this thing into an awards show for TikTok explainer videos.” The star power was amped up for the new digs. Paul Shaeffer gave “The Beatles: Get Back” its Best Musical Doc award.

Paul Rudd is Back in First Trailer for Marvel's 'Ant-Man and the Wasp'
"Maybe you just need someone watching your back? Like a partner." Disney has released the first official trailer for the Marvel Studios sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, once again directed by Peyton Reed of the first Ant-Man movie. Paul Rudd returns (and is credited on the screenplay) as Scott Lang, also known as Ant-Man, who appeared in Captain America: Civil War during the big battle at the end. Evangeline Lilly plays The Wasp, who finally gets her own super-powered shrinking suit with wings and blasters in this one. The cast includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Hannah John-Kamen, Walton Goggins, Michael Peña, Judy Greer, Abby Ryder Fortson, Laurence Fishburne, David Dastmalchian, Vanessa Ross, Randall Park, with Michael Douglas. It looks like Fishburne might be the villain, and I'm so down for this. Enjoy. Here's the first official trailer for Peyton Reed's Ant-Man and the Wasp, direct from YouTube: In the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War,...

Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury (1972)
Birth of the Dragon Trailer: Bruce Lee Vs. Wong Jack Man
Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury (1972)
Just days after the poster arrived for the martial arts biopic Birth of the Dragon, the trailer has finally dropped. While this movie isn't the first to address Bruce Lee's legend, it is the only one to detail a legendary fight between Bruce Lee and Wong Jack Man, which helped define Bruce Lee and turn him into a legend. The film premiered last week at the Toronto International Film Festival, but a domestic release date has not been issued.

An affectionate nod to the classic Kung Fu films of the 1970s, Birth of the Dragon is a dramatization of the true life but much disputed fight between Kung Fu greats Bruce Lee (Philip Ng) and Shaolin Master Wong Jack Man (Yu Xia) in San Francisco's Chinatown in 1964. Based on Michael Dorgan's magazine article, "Bruce Lee's Toughest Fight," the film is written by Chris Wilkinson and Stephen J. Rivele,...

Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury (1972)
Birth of the Dragon Poster Reveals Legendary Bruce Lee
Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury (1972)
The Toronto International Film Festival is currently in full swing, and one of the films making its world premiere next week is director George Nolfi's Birth of the Dragon, which centers on martial arts legend Bruce Lee. The film will have its premiere on September 13, but while we wait for this first ever screening, the first poster has surfaced, featuring Philip Ng as Bruce Lee. While there have been Bruce Lee biopics in the past, this film focuses on a little-known fight that helped him become a world-renowned legend.

Set against the backdrop of San Francisco's Chinatown, this cross-cultural film chronicles {Bruce Lee's emergence as a martial-arts superstar after his legendary secret showdown with fellow martial artist Wong Jack Man, a Shaolin master who had been sent from China to stop Bruce Lee. The film is based on the real-life no holds barred fight took place 1965, a time...

Fassbender Delivers Best Performance of His Career in 'Riveting' 'Jobs' Biopic
'Steve Jobs' movie poster. 'Steve Jobs' movie: 'Riveting, high speed' biopic starring Michael Fassbender at his best On the outside, computers are clean, symmetrical slabs of molded polycarbonate; pleasant, or at least inoffensive, to look at. On the inside, however, the part most consumers don't see, is a bento box of circuit boards, memory chips, wires, graphics cards, and cooling systems, busily processing and moving the innumerable pieces of information that make the unit work flawlessly or, occasionally, crash. What director Danny Boyle's ferocious three-act rocket ride, Steve Jobs, teaches us about its eponymous tech icon, is that he was much like a computer: on the outside, clad in his signature black turtleneck and jeans, he was trim, bespectacled and flawlessly functioning. On the inside, he was on the brink of crashing, his internal Os in constant operation, avoiding, justifying, and occasionally acknowledging his poor treatment of...

Must Watch: Full-Length Trailer for Danny Boyle's 'Steve Jobs' Movie
"We're not a pit crew at Daytona, this can't be fixed in seconds!" Universal has debuted a full-length trailer for Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs movie, starring Michael Fassbender as the innovator Steve Jobs. This doesn't exactly make him look like the nicest guy in the world, as the trailer seems to show quite a few extra moments through his long career, including very early on at Apple and an amusing tech failure with the original Os just before a conference. The cast includes Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, Jeff Daniels, Sarah Snook, Katherine Waterston, Michael Stuhlbarg, Vanessa Ross, John Ortiz and Adam Shapiro. I think this looks fantastic, really really excited to see it. Looks even better than I could have hoped. Enjoy! Here's the new full-length trailer for Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs movie, direct from Universal's YouTube: You can also still watch the first teaser trailer for Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs here,...
