Following a year-long process, Dhadak 2 is now ready for release, geared for the commercial market. Reports stated that the film had cleared the final board for censoring, bearing a Cbfc certificate with a U/A category in the 16+ range. Well, it did not come that easily.

The board presented 16 suggestions for changes related to dialogues, visuals, and certain scenes. The film is a remake of the 2018 Tamil movie Pariyerum Perumal and stars Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi in lead role. It deals with themes of caste and class discrimination. This strong subject led to several cuts and changes by the board.

Mithun Chakraborty, Subhasree Ganguly, and Ritwick Chakraborty in Shontaan (2024)
Film Review: Shontaan (2024) by Raj Chakraborty
Mithun Chakraborty, Subhasree Ganguly, and Ritwick Chakraborty in Shontaan (2024)
At the beginning of ‘Shontaan‘, this text appears on screen: “Based on real incidents.” And rightly so. In today’s world, stories of children neglecting their older parents are commonplace in every neighbourhood. Making a film on this subject, especially in Bengal, is equally common. Here, movies like ‘Posto‘ and ‘Shonar Pahar‘ have already depicted familial tussles between children and their parents. So, the first question that comes to mind before watching ‘Shontaan’ is: “What new will it bring to the screen?” The answer: nothing at all. It reproduces the same generic tropes with exaggerated characters and moral lecturing.

The story revolves around an older couple, Saradindu Bose and Meghmala Bose, who are abandoned by their son, Indranil. A self-centered and selfish man, Indranil spends his time partying with his friends or going to family trips to Bangkok without giving any thought about his older mother’s medical treatment. He...

‘Lakadbaggha’ (2023) Review: A Satisfying, Bone-Crunching Movie That Stands Against Animal Cruelty
Image
There is almost zero subtlety in Lakadbaggha. The title is literal, as it is indeed about a hyena saving the day. For the uninitiated, Lakadbaggha is the Hindi word for the animal. The one we see in the movie looks quite artificial, though, thanks to shoddy VFX. In fact, the effect of budget constraints is visible throughout the movie. It doesn’t exactly look that polished; in fact, a lot of frames appear to be downright amateurish. I am not on a mission to massacre Victor Mukherjee’s movie with harsh words. In fact, it is just the opposite. I am getting the criticism out of the way first, because I have all the praise in the world for Lakadbaggha, which, despite all the issues, was an incredibly satisfactory watch for me.

If you follow the “cats and dogs adoption” groups of Kolkata on Facebook, you will come across people...

Ridhi Dogra debuts as a sleuth in Kolkata
Image
The makers and Ridhi Dogra revealed that she will be playing a Cbi officer in Kolkata – in the upcoming action thriller ‘Lakadbaggha’ set for a January 13th release. Ridhi Dogra’s character’s name is Akshara D’Souza, a law-woman. She will be seen performing some stunts, Krav Maga style, in the movie opposite Anshuman Jha. The film also stars Milind Soman, Paresh Pahuja & Kharaj Mukherjee in pivotal roles.

Says Ridhi, “Akshara is a tough cop in the world of Lakadbaggha. She has a story running parallel to Arjun played by Anshuman. I call her the grey between the white that is Arjun and black that is Aryan. She stands for her no nonsense, strong work ethics and a connection to her past that compels her to do things the way she does them in the premise of the film. Lakadbaggha has some serious hand to hand combat action and thrills.
