The sunny strip-mall mundanity of Southern California’s San Gabriel Valley is the fascinating setting for Eric Lin’s dark directorial debut, the unsettling and not entirely successful story of a widow struggling with her son’s mental illness. Based, very closely, on a series of real-life events that occurred in 2015 and were documented two years later by journalist Frank Shyong in the L.A. Times (be warned: the headline alone is one massive spoiler), Rosemead works better as a character study than it does as an issue movie about mental health. Though it takes a little while to get used to seeing Lucy Liu as a meek and humble mother, the film builds to a most unexpected crescendo, giving the actress her best role in years, one that could even get traction in awards season.

In Rosemead, Eric Lin crafts a modest and heartbreaking story of domestic isolation and mental health in the Asian American community. The film, which premieres at Tribeca, stars Lucy Liu as Irene, an intrepid Chinese mother battling a terminal illness while navigating the painful realities of her son’s worsening schizophrenia. Joe (a fine Lawrence Shou) was once a star student and celebrated swimmer at Rosemead High School, but his father’s death triggered the young man’s latent psychological problems and he’s been struggling ever since.
Many immigrant communities either ignore mental health challenges or see symptoms as evidence of spiritual deviance. It can be difficult for those in need to get the help required. Based on a true story, Rosemead compassionately captures the various layers — from community rejection to inadequate state responses — that come with trying to find support. In a historic legal decision last year, a Michigan jury found the parents of a 15-year-old school shooter responsible for the deaths their son had caused. Could they have prevented it? Based on an upsetting true story, director Eric Lin’s “Rosemead” focuses on a Chinese single mother who takes drastic measures to deal with her son’s dark impulses, substituting one tragedy for something equally unthinkable. Even more shocking than the film’s outcome is the career-redefining performance given by lead actor Lucy Liu, who explodes the slinky action-figure box that “Charlie’s Angels” and “Kill Bill” built around her, revealing the erstwhile “Ally McBeal” star in a completely different light.
As recently widowed Irene Chao, Liu trades her signature strut for a self-effacing shuffle, using makeup not to accentuate her beauty but to downplay it. In “Rosemead” (named for the east Los Angeles neighborhood where this true story took...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the FBI Season 7 finale “A New Day.”] Zeeko Zaki wasn’t exaggerating when he called the FBI Season 7 finale cliffhanger “life or death.” In the final moments, just as it seems that 26 Fed has taken care of their major problem of the terrorist group members having infiltrated the bureau, Isobel (Alana De La Garza) collapses. Forefront pops back up, now with members in the FBI (previously in the US Marshals). They initiate an attack on agents using mini explosives in government-issued phones, and Isobel is in the room with one when it goes off. To everyone outside the inner circle — Maggie (Missy Peregrym), Oa (Zeeko Zaki), Jubal (Jeremy Sisto), Scola (John Boyd), Dani (Emily Alabi), Kelly (Taylor Anthony Miller), Elise (Vedette Lim), and Ian (James Chen) — she’s dead, until she reveals herself to the corrupt deputy assistant director to make him think she’s on his side. Instead, she records him ordering ...

The teaser for CBS’s FBI season seven episode 22, the season finale, shows Isobel accusing someone of being a traitor to “this office and to our country.” And series star Zeeko Zaki warns fans should be prepared for a life-or-death cliffhanger.
Speaking with TV Insider, Zaki added, “We’re kind of calling it our little Fast and Furious episode where we have to find a new location, a new place, and kind of work off the grid and solve a crime. It’s really fun that we kind of get to do these new things in our show now with our new writers. Hopefully, the audience buys it, loves it, and wants to see more of it.”

This article contains spoilers for "Daredevil: Born Again" episode 7.
"Daredevil: Born Again" is arguably an improvement on the Netflix series, especially in its portrayal of vigilantism and the legal drama that stems from it. That said, the long-awaited sequel saga -- which is available to stream on Disney+ -- isn't perfect, as the storyline centering around the mysterious serial killer Muse (Hunter Doohan) and his artistic endeavors is full of missed opportunities, such as a failing to introduce a heroic vigilante whose regular alias sneakily debuted in Netflix's "Iron Fist." Yes, we're talking about Samuel Chung (previously played by James Chen), aka Blindspot.
The latest series about Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and his crime-fighting escapades in New York plucks elements from several Marvel Comics stories. The Muse storyline, however, was inspired by writer Charles Soule and artist Ron Garney's "Daredevil" run, which sees The Man Without Fear recruit Blindspot as his sidekick,...

This would be an opportune time to catch up on the first five seasons of FBI.
With the ongoing Writers' Guild and SAG/AFTRA strikes, who's to say when new episodes from FBI Season 6 will be appearing?
So while viewers can revisit episodes up until now, we'll look ahead at everything we know about the upcoming season.
FBI has discovered an approachable blend of suspense and drama, with a multi-agency group of geeks employing technology to support the agents who close cases.
It must be said that FBI is less character-driven than Dick Wolf's other two franchises: Law & Order and One Chicago.
However, FBI's popularity has led to two spinoffs: FBI: International, entering its third season, and FBI: Most Wanted, heading into its fifth season. Unlike the more stable parent show, the two spinoffs have been plagued by cast changes.
