Republicans voted on Thursday night to clawback $1.1 billion in congressional funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which helps finance National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). The vote marks the latest chapter in President Donald Trump’s attacks against media companies and publications who aren’t covering his presidency to his liking.
NPR and PBS receive the majority of their funding not from Congress, but from public fundraising. Rural stations, which are more dependent on direct funding from lawmakers in Washington, are expected to suffer the most from the cuts.

Terry Moran has kept himself busy in the month since he was fired from ABC News. Moran was suspended from the new network on June 8 after he criticized White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and President Donald Trump on X. In the since-deleted tweet — which was reposted by CNN’s Brian Stelter — Moran described Miller as “a man who is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred” and called both Miller and Trump “world-class” haters. Just two days later, ABC News announced that they parted ways with Moran, as his post was a “clear violation” of the network’s policies. “At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness, and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism,” a spokesperson for the channel said in a statement to TVLine. Cobra Kai star Martin Kove has denied any wrongdoing involving a sexual harassment allegation that was said to have taken place on set of the Netflix series’ final season in Atlanta.
According to a report from Deadline, the actor was investigated by series producer Sony Pictures Television after an extra made a sexual harassment complaint against Kove in April 2024. Though the matter was not said to have involved physical contact, it was described as “leering” and verbally overt enough for the actress to speak up about her discomfort. One of the writers of the No. 1 New York Times bestselling book Abundance is betting that by leaving legacy media, he can keep the conversation going around the book, which has become a focal point of political discourse since its release in March.
Derek Thompson, a staff writer for The Atlantic, says that he is leaving the publication after 17 years to launch a Substack, where he hopes to embrace the freedom of independence to explore the topic of abundance, as well as the rapidly changing worlds of science, technology and culture.
“The somewhat simplistic, but more or less true, buzzy take on what’s happening to me is: I co-wrote this book with Ezra Klein. We sort of expected that it would be a fairly popular, but wonky take on the future of liberalism and the Democratic Party, and it became this discourse eating machine,” Thompson tells The Hollywood Reporter in an interview.

As more Ice raids hit Los Angeles this Juneteenth holiday, the Bob Iger and Willow Bay-owned Angel City Fc has taken a stand for immigrants while most others have remained silent and afraid of the Donald Trump administration.
Less than a year after Iger and spouse Bay dropped around $100 million to became the controlling owners in the $250 million-valued National Women’s Soccer League team, Acfc has come out in strong opposition to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions in L.A. and waved the flag proudly for “Immigrant City.”

Terry Moran is breaking his silence on the tweet that got him suspended before being ousted.
If you don’t know, earlier this month, the former ABC News journalist called Donald Trump‘s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller a “world-class hater” on X.
“The thing about Stephen Miller is not that he is the brains behind Trumpism,” he wrote in the now-deleted post.
“Yes, he is one of the people who conceptualizes the impulses of the Trumpist movement and translates them into policy. But that’s not what’s interesting about Miller. It’s not brains. It’s bile. Terry Moran continued to defend his decision to label President Donald Trump’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller a “world-class hater” even after ABC News cut ties with the veteran reporter and anchor.
In an interview with The Bulwark’s Tim Miller on Monday, Moran said the post was not a “drunk tweet” but rather “something that was in my heart and mind.”
“There is no Mount Olympus of objectivity where a Mandarin class of wise people have no feelings about their society. We’re all in this together,” he noted. “What you have to be is fair and accurate, and I would refer to the interview with the president that I did, or a lot of my work. And I would also say that this, while very hot, is an observation, a description that was accurate and true.”
Moran further described himself as a “Hubert Humphrey Democrat.”

A helpful list of films to watch other than Donald Trump’s birthday parade – from a dystopian thriller to a terrible sequel to a prophetic cult hit
What are you up to this weekend? If you’re American, then there’s only one right answer to the question: celebrating the 79th birthday of our lord and saviour, Donald John Trump. As you will know, and already have marked in your calendar, there’s a big military parade happening in Washington DC on Saturday 14 June. Nominally this is to mark the US army’s 250th anniversary, but thanks to the machinations of time and space it happens to fall on Trump’s birthday: the parade has been widely branded as a big boy birthday party for the president.
If you can’t get to DC to physically watch Trump’s parade then I’m sure you’re desperate to watch it on TV.

During this week’s episode of Overtime, the YouTube show for those poor lost souls who somehow didn’t get enough of Bill Maher’s opinions on the hour-long Real Time, the host was asked by a viewer for his thoughts on the firing of Terry Moran.
Moran, a correspondent for ABC News, was suspended, and eventually fired, due to social media posts in which he called President Donald Trump and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller “world class” haters. He also claimed that Miller is “vile.” The network took issue with this, but not because it was defamatory to the vile community.
As reported by The Los Angeles Times, an ABC News rep stated that Moran’s actions “violated editorial standards and his contract was not renewed,” further explaining that “at ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and...

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes shared an interesting perspective on fellow ousted ABC alum Terry Moran. On their podcast Amy & T.J., the two reflected on Moran’s fate at the network, after he was fired by ABC News, following a suspension for posting a social media post expressing his personal views on Donald Trump and members of his cabinet. “I am not surprised. As soon as we heard that he had been suspended, and we read what his actual original tweet was, you and I both knew he was never going to come back to ABC News,” said Robach of the situation. “This was a clear, obvious, big n-no that I have never actually really seen anything similar.” The ongoing tension between the White House and the legacy media has led to the suspension of veteran ABC journalist Terry Moran following a controversial social media post. The decision comes two days after ABC suspended Moran, the network’s senior national correspondent and an anchor for ABC News Live, over an X post about White House adviser Stephen Miller. In that post, which he lated deleted, Moran referred to Miller as a “world-class hater.”
“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post — which was a clear violation of ABC News policies — we have made the decision to not renew,” an ABC News spokesperson said. “At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism.”
In suspending Moran — which happened after White House officials publicly demanded action from the network — ABC News said it “does not condone subjective personal attacks on others.

ABC News on Sunday suspended its correspondent Terry Moran over a social media post that criticized President Trump and his Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller. In the post, since deleted, Moran called Miller a “world-class hater” who “conceptualizes the impulses of the Trumpist movement and translates them into policy.”
Miller is believed to be the architect of ongoing immigration raids throughout the U.S., including those in Los Angeles, which sparked protests and riots over the weekend. Moran did not reference the immigration sweeps in his post, but said one could see that Miller is “richly endowed with the capacity for hatred,” which could be seen “just by looking at him, because you can see that his hatreds are his spiritual nourishment.”

John Oliver mocked President Trump for repeatedly insisting that a photo that appeared to be edited was real during an interview with ABC News last week.
On Sunday’s Last Week Tonight (which was filmed prior to Trump revealing a plan to institute a tariff on movies produced outside the U.S.), Oliver showed a 90-second clip from an interview that Trump gave to ABC News senior national correspondent Terry Moran pegged to the president’s first 100 days in office for his second term.
During the interview, which was filmed in the Oval Office, the subject of Kilmar Abrego Garcia was broached. Abrego Garcia was recently deported to El Salvador, which the Trump administration has since admitted was a mistake due to an “administrative error.”

Nearly five months after President Donald Trump announced his “special ambassadors” to Hollywood, one of them appears poised to present a plan to revive the film and television industry in the United States — but what, exactly, does that entail?
Jon Voight has been taking meetings around town with union reps and studio executives to understand the issues plaguing domestic production, Deadline has confirmed. So far, Voight met with the Directors Guild of America, Teamsters and IATSE, sources tell us. The Writers Guild of America has not met with Voight, and it’s unclear whether SAG-AFTRA has entertained a conversation.
We understand that Trump’s other two ambassador picks, Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson, are not involved in Voight’s conversations. The Tulsa King star and Passion of the Christ filmmaker have not facilitated any formal discussions on the topic on their own either, it seems.

Sounding a lot like a candidate for something, Kamala Harris returned to her old stomping ground of San Francisco tonight to warn Americans the apparent chaos of Donald Trump’s Project 2025 fueled agenda is a ruse to distract from the long-lasting wounds being inflicting on the body politic, civil society and the Constitution.
“Instead of an administration working to advance our highest ideals, we are witnessing the wholesale abandonment of those ideals,” the former VP said Wednesday to the the Emerge 20th Anniversary Gala of Trump’s attacks on the Constitution and the “greatest man-made economic crisis in modern presidential history.”
“Let us not be duped into thinking everything is chaos,” the 2024 candidate added at the Bay Area city’s Palace Hotel. “It may feel like that. But understand, what we are, in fact, witnessing is a high velocity event. Where a vessel is being used for the swift implementation...

Joy Behar is certainly no fan of Donald Trump, but after watching another contentious interview — this time on ABC News — of his, the host of “The View” is actually “starting to feel sorry” for the president.
The ABC host shocked her colleagues on Wednesday morning with the sentiment, as the women discussed Trump’s interview, during which he complained that journalist Terry Moran was “not being very nice” by pushing back on lies. In discussing their thoughts on it, Behar noted she watched the entire interview, and came to a surprising conclusion.
“I’m really starting to feel sorry for him. He’s over his head,” she said. “The simplest questions, he can not answer. He knows that only immigration is maybe where he’s been somewhat successful.”
In reality, a new Washington Post-abc News-Ipsos poll indicates that Trump’s approval rating on immigration specifically has actually fallen in recent weeks.

On Tuesday (April 29) night, Donald Trump sat for an interview with ABC News’ Terry Moran at the White House to commemorate the first 100 days of his second presidency. Several moments from the one-on-one have since made headlines, including a heated exchange over Kilmar Ábrego García, a legal resident of the U.S. who was deported to El Salvador’s mega-prison and whose case sparked a Supreme Court order for Trump’s administration to “facilitate” his return. Trump argued that while he “could” bring the Maryland dad back home he wouldn’t because he had Ms-13 tattoos, a fact which the interviewer pointed out was in dispute. On Wednesday’s live episode of The View, the cohosts offered their reactions to a clip of that portion of the interview, and at least one cohost came away from it with a surprising new perspective. “I watched the whole thing,” Joy Behar said right away.

Donald Trump has been on quite a press tour around his first 100 days in office, the latest stop of which was a sit-down interview with ABC News that aired tonight. It wasn’t always cordial between the president and correspondent Terry Moran — particularly as Moran tried to tell Trump that an obviously edited image of “Ms-13” appearing across the knuckles of Kilmar Abrego Garcia was not, in fact, real.
“On his knuckles he had Ms-13,” Trump said of Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was wrongfully deported to a mega-prison in El Salvador.

Midway through Donald Trump’s 100-day interview with ABC’s Terry Moran, the president got flustered.
“Terry, they’re giving you the big break of a lifetime. You know, you are doing the interview. I picked you because, frankly, I never heard of you, but that’s Ok,” Trump said Tuesday during the primetime sit-down.
They were sparring over Trump’s claim that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the migrant that courts have ordered returned to the U.S. after being deported to a prison in El Salvador, had gang affiliations. More specifically, Moran was challenging Trump’s contention that a photo showed him with the letters Ms-13 on his knuckles.
“He had some tattoos that were interpreted that way,” Moran said.
Trump interjected, “Terry. Terry. Don’t do that. It says Ms 13.”
“That was photoshopped,” Moran said.

Pope Francis’ funeral will take place Saturday, April 26 in Italy, meaning it will be early in the morning for most wanting to watch from America. The pontiff’s passing on Easter Monday, April 21 followed a respiratory tract infection, for which he was hospitalized for five weeks in February. Complications arose as he was diagnosed with bilateral pnuemonia. The head of the Vatican’s Health Department, Dr. Andrea Arcangeli, confirmed that the religious leader died of a cerebral stroke that put him into a coma and led to heart failure.
The Pope died less than a full day after his visit with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. Guests at the funeral will include President Donald Trump, Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prince William who will go in place of his father King Charles. Charles met with the pontiff just days before his death as well.
