Kannappa Hindi Trailer Review: Can We Stop This Baahubalification Of Prabhas & Mahadevification Of Akshay Kumar Urgently?
Image
Kannappa Hindi Trailer Review Ft. Baahubalified Prabhas & Mahadevified Akshay Kumar!(Photo Credit –YouTube)

After Baahubali witnessed a success like never before, two things happened. A – Baahubalification of Prabhas, making him look larger than life and almost heavenly in every frame; B. Baahubalified Films – films that rely heavily on VFX, and most of them are inspired brutally by Baahubali! Kannappa is another grand offering starring a barrage of stars, and the trailer has left me in chaos!

First of all, I am also done with the Mahadevification of Akshay Kumar! After Omg 2, I am done witnessing him as Mahadev! The trailer made me remember some school skits that students perform brilliantly, but at the end of the day, it is a school skit!

Oh My God – Again?

Kannappa trailer might intrigue audiences looking at Akshay Kumar as Mahadev, with Trishul and Damru, and Kajal Agarwal playing Devi Parvati. But their scenes...

Adi Shankar Finally Revealed Why Dante Didn’t Have Ebony and Ivory from the Start of Netflix’s ‘Devil May Cry’
Image
Devil May Cry Season 1 has been extremely impressive with the wisecracking Dante, incredible fight scenes, intense music, and a lot of unexplored plot points. Dante’s story got a foundation in Season 1, but it felt like a lot was missing, more precisely, yet to be revealed.

For instance, although Dante takes the center stage, there is a lot of screen time given to Lady. Not to mention, certain weapons and mechanics have not been explained by the anime. Like, how Dante can have infinite ammo in his Barettas?

And why does he have Barettas? Where are Ebony and Ivory, his faithful companions? A lot of questions need answers, and from what the director, Adi Shankar, is saying, we might get them in Season 2.

Adi Shankar explains the absence of Ebony and Ivory

I Can Not Hate Netflix For Making Dante Weak in Devil May Cry Anime
Image
Netflix and Adi Shankar’s Devil May Cry anime have been criticized by ardent fans of the franchise for making Dante, the protagonist, too weak. According to them, the pizza-loving, demon-slaying protagonist capable of battling godlike entities was reduced to a weak, absent-minded character who doesn’t resemble his videogame counterpart.

I believe we’ve blown this critique out of proportion. We haven’t considered the fact that we are seeing a younger, more inexperienced Dante. Instead of disgracing the franchise, this portrayal mirrors the progression of the games, setting the stage for him to become the cocky demon hunter we know and love.

Studio Mir, the production company at the helm of some of the best animated ventures recently, has shown off their skills with Devil May Cry—faithfully complementing the...

Netflix's 'Devil May Cry' Reveals Opening Credits & April Release Date
Image
Seven years after it was first announced, Netflix's animated adaptation of the Devil May Cry series has finally revealed a release date and a first look at the opening credits for the upcoming show. The animated sequence, which can be viewed below, features plenty of colorful and intense visuals to the tune of "Rollin" by Limp Bizkit, an unexpected song choice but most definitely fitting for Dante and the Devil May Cry series. Showcasing all kinds of carnage (and plenty of pizza), this opening also came with the news that the series will be released on Netflix on Apr. 3.

This new look at the opening for the series was preceded by a teaser trailer that Netflix released last September, which gave a preview of what the animation style of the series would look like. Devil Hunter Dante's unique action style from video games is translated well thanks to the fast-paced animation.

‘Parachute’ Recap And Ending Explained: Were Varun And Rudra Reunited With Their Parents?
Image
Good family dramas are a rarity these days. Any movie or show that discusses the flaws in the familial system is always a good story. There is scope for exploring layers behind human behavior, and family dramas allow that if the screenplay is competently written. Piku, Dil Dhadakne Do, and Kapoor & Sons are some examples from Hindi cinema that explore family dynamics as a theme and how families function on a daily basis. Parachute, the new Disney+ Hotstar show, is about two young children and the relationship they have with their father, who seems to have a temper.

Amar Kaushik
Amar Kaushik’s Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank (2024) arrived in theaters with high expectations, riding on the success of its predecessor and the expanding Maddock Supernatural Universe. Boasting a star-studded cast including Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, and Pankaj Tripathi and blending horror with comedy, the film seemed poised for blockbuster status. Yet, a curious question lingers: Are critics, particularly male reviewers, feeling compelled to praise Stree 2 despite its shortcomings out of fear of being labeled misogynistic or unsupportive of gender equality?

Setting that debate aside, the focus here is on the film’s conclusion, whether there’s a post-credits scene, and how it ties into Bhediya and Munjya. But before diving into the film’s ending, let’s first unpack the plot and see what unfolds in Chanderi this time.

Stree 2 has broken a major record at the Indian box office. The horror-comedy sequel is a follow-up to 2018's Stree and sees a new menace descend upon the town of Chanderi, namely a headless ghost named Sarkata who kidnaps women. The Indian horror movie has become a box office sensation, beginning with debuting on the domestic Top 10 chart during a particularly competitive weekend and eventually becoming the highest-grossing Hindi-language movie in India for the year while climbing past the $70 million milestone worldwide.

Per Forbes, Stree 2 has now grossed $96 million worldwide. This includes $69.9 million from India, which makes it the highest-grossing Hindi-language movie of all time in the country, surpassing the $69.7 million gross of the Hindi release of the Shah Rukh Khan smash hit Jawan from 2023, a movie that remains the fifth highest-grossing Indian film of all time worldwide. ‘Stree 2’ Ending Explained: Is Akshay Kumar Chandrabhan? Will There Be A Part 3?
Image
Stree 2’s main antagonist, Sarkata, was a vengeful being who used to be the patriarchal leader of Chanderi, called Chandrabhan, and was responsible for the deaths of the woman (who later went on to become Stree), her husband, and probably her child as well. When the deceased woman returned as Stree, she beheaded Chandrabhan and his men, and their bodies were buried in a secluded part of town. As long as Stree haunted Chanderi, Chandrabhan’s soul remained dormant. But, after the events of the first film, since the titular ghost went away, Chandrabhan returned to terrorize the people of Chanderi as a headless creature called Sarkata. Back in the day, Chandrabhan used to oppress women and use them like toys, and he wanted to reinstate that status quo. So, he started abducting women, shaving their heads, putting them in a white saree, and sending them to some kind of...

‘Stree 2’ Review: Amar Kaushik’s Movie On Zombification Of Patriarchy Derailed By CGI Spectacle
Image
Horror film fans will be aware of the Universal Classic Monsters franchise, which reigned over the entertainment landscape for two decades (1930-1950) by having, well, classic monsters like Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Dracula, The Mummy, and more star in their own films while interacting with each other in “monster mash-up” crossovers. While The Mummy was revived as a franchise in the 2000s, and Van Helsing is undergoing some kind of reappreciation process, they didn’t manage to recreate the craze back then. Universal Studios had another go at it with the Dark Universe, but that was a colossal flop. Meanwhile, here in Bollywood, Maddock Studios has struck gold with its homegrown monsters. They started things off with Stree, which featured a ghost who abducted men that roamed around at night. Then came Bhediya, which used the werewolf trope to comment on environmentalism. Munjya modernized the concept of the poltergeist while...

The first film of the Maddock Supernatural Universe was the Amar Kaushik directorial, Stree, which was released in the year 2018. With the second installment of the film scheduled to be released on 15th August, I believed that it was the best time to revisit the 2018 film, find out what happened in its ending, if Stree, the ghost that haunted Chanderi village, is still alive, and how the world of Stree collides with the other two films of this cinematic universe, i.e., Munjya and Bhediya.

Review: ‘Second Chance’ is a Thoughtful Exploration of Life, Grief, and Hope
Image
Debutant filmmaker Subhadra Mahajan’s Second Chance (2024) is a gentle portrait of a young woman’s exploration of love, death, and the resurgence of hope. It centers around a protagonist who shrinks her mental space and tries to refuse the reality that eats her up from the inside. The evocative story follows a single, pregnant woman coping with abandonment by her boyfriend. Enhanced by a mournful score and naturalistic approach, the film seeks depth in a simple yet hopeful tale. This lends the story a certain simplicity, bringing it further into the realm of a humane tale and offering a thoughtful exploration of human relationships without overshadowing its primary focus. Mahajan’s storytelling style, which is slow-paced and introspective, can be seen as having a blend of deep affinity and detached observation. Instead of deeply immersing the viewers in the protagonist’s emotional struggles through melodrama, she approaches it with a detached yet empathetic observation,...

Operation Valentine Trailer is intense and engaging
Image
“Rudra, stand down!” orders a woman’s voice. She sounds like Tabu. But she is not. This film seems to be another Fighter. But it is not.

Going by the trailer released earlier today, Operation Valentine is a boxoffice winner even before the film releases on March 1. The trailer is intense and engaging, somewhat like the aerial battles that define the Top Gun genre. Except that this time, Varun Tej’s Rudra doesn’t seem to be faking it.

What took Siddharth Anand’s Fighter down was all that posturing… Oh God, the look-we-are-saving-the-country posturing. In Operation Valentine, Varun Tej and the rest of the cast don’t waste their time, and ours in trying to impress us with their patriotic zeal.

Everything and everyone look far more professional, far more equipped for the job of protecting our country, than their blasé counterparts in Fighter.

And there is more chemistry...

Image
OpinionThe trope of basing a film’s appeal on the anxiety of the parents and families of young women is not new. It is, in fact, one of the most tried and tested formulae for ensuring commercial success.Screengrab“If you have a daughter, you must watch this movie” is an appeal made by several films to pull audiences into theatres. Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story does the same while trying to cover up its myopic, no-nuance representation of religious radicalisation in Kerala by playing up the age-old patriarchal fear families have about their daughters whose bodies, they are taught to believe, are repositories of their collective dignity. This trope of basing a film’s appeal on the anxiety of the parents and families of young women is not new. It is, in fact, one of the most tried and tested formulae of ensuring commercial success, given that it...
