Audiences Have a Craving for 'Kraven the Hunter' on Streaming, Despite 15% Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Karven the Hunter has entered the long list of movies that were duds at the box office but get constant attention with a wider release on home video or streaming. The Aaron Taylor-Johnson-led film, which tells the origin story of one of the most compelling Marvel villains in Spider-Man's rogues gallery, failed to impress audiences and critics in theaters, but since it arrived on streaming, it has reigned in various charts.

As per FlixPatrol, Kraven the Hunter is topping the Max charts at the third spot. The movie only stands behind Companion and Ben Affleck’s action flick The Accountant, which is garnering eyeballs as the sequel hits the theaters. Before topping the Max charts, the movie also reigned Netflix charts, entertaining viewers worldwide. Perhaps it’ll be remembered as a campy R-rated action flick down the line.

Despite Poor Reviews, This Superhero Film With Only $60 Million at the Box Office Is Conquering Streaming Services Again
Image
Nowadays, people think twice about going to the theater to watch a film they might not enjoy. While some titles might sound appealing, moviegoers decide to skip the whole ordeal and watch them at home on streaming, which might lead to certain films to bomb in theaters.

This was the case for several entries in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, including the last one, Kraven the Hunter. The only true successful franchise in the Ssu is Venom, but, for other films, the commercial part was often disappointing. Kraven the Hunter was the third entry in a year filled with Ssu titles, and now the superhero film is back in the charts on streaming after its success on Netflix, per FlixPatrol.

Although FlixPatrol doesn't reveal viewership numbers,Kraven the Hunter became a major hit on Max in Central and South America. It premiered on Apr. 26, and the next day it was already the No.

One of 2024’s Biggest Box Office Flops Finds Redemption on Netflix
Image
Despite extremely poor box office returns, Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s latest superhero movie has become a major hit on streaming. Taylor-Johnson stars alongside Russell Crowe and Christopher Abbott in Kraven the Hunter, the 2024 Sony Marvel film that debuted in December and grossed only $61 million at the global box office against a $110 million budget, making it one of the biggest flops of the year. However, the film recently premiered on Netflix more than two weeks ago, and not only did it quickly become one of the more popular movies on the platform, but it has weathered the storm of new arrivals to hold down its spot. Kraven the Hunter earned a “rotten” 15% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and general audiences reviewed the film at 73%.

Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway all contributed to the script for Kraven the Hunter, and J.C. Chandor directed the film. Chandor made his directorial debut 15 years ago on Margin Call,...

Kraven the Hunter Found Its Audience Not in the Theater, But on Streaming
Image
Kraven the Hunter is part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe. The film was the third addition to the Ssu in 2024 and didn't live up to its potential, becoming a major flop after poor initial reviews.

Luckily, streaming services prove there's an audience for every film and Kraven the Hunter has found its prey. Since its disastrous release in theaters, the movie, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular character, has found a lot of success online. Following its release on Netflix, Kraven the Hunter has become a hit, Tudum reveals.

The movie premiered on Netflix on Mar. 13, and for the week between Mar. 10 and 16, the movie climbed up the charts globally. It received 7.1 million views and 15 million hours viewed in just three days on the platform. The numbers become even more impressive, as the film reached the third spot globally and is available only in one territory — the U.S.

Masters of the Universe (2026)
The Masters of the Universe franchise has been going strong for over forty years now, consisting of multiple lines of action figures, several animated TV shows, a bunch of comic book series, and much more including a live-action film adaptation that was released in 1987 and starred Dolph Lundgren as the iconic character He-Man. Although that ’87 film has a strong fan following, it wasn’t received very well in general… but now, Mattel (the toy company behind the franchise) is ready to give the idea of a live-action Masters of the Universe film another try. 'Kraven the Hunter' to Stream on Netflix Next Month
Image
The critically panned Spider-Man spin-off (which ultimately brought Sony’s ill-thought-out shared universe to an end), Kraven the Hunter is ready to enact brutal vengeance on Netflix next month. The comic book action outing, which stars Kick-Ass and Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the Marvel antihero, caused yet another divide between critics and audiences at the time, with the latter crowd no doubt excited to be able to stream Kraven at home.

Kraven the Hunter will be available to stream on Netflix in the United States on March 13, 2025, according to What’s on Netflix. Directed by J. C. Chandor from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk, Kraven the Hunter tells the origin of the Marvel character, much like Venom before it. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for "The Amazing Spider-Man" #15 back in 1964, Kraven the Hunter follows the title character on a violent vendetta.

Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg's $400 Million Action Adventure Film Is A Hit On Streaming
Image
Tom Holland has proven his acting skills in the action genre with his take on the beloved comic book character Peter Parker/ Spider-Man, but that wasn't his only hit film. In 2022, he joined forces with Mark Wahlberg for an adaptation of the video game franchise Uncharted.

The movie was a big success at the box office, and it received good feedback from the fans. However, it didn't impress the critics. The action-adventure video game series was first released in 2007 with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, created by Amy Henning and developed by Naughty Dog. Three years later,Uncharted became a hit on Netflix, taking over the global charts at number two, Tudum reports.

Sorry, but I Think Timothy Olyphant Would’ve Made a Great Iron Man

Few Hollywood superstars have had a colorful and downright dazzling career quite like beloved leading man Robert Downey Jr., with the Academy Award-winning actor having experienced both spectacular highs and lows throughout his enduring Hollywood tenure. In 2008, Downey reaffirmed his status as one of the industry's most charismatic and celebrated performers when he took on the life-changing role of genius inventor, industrialist, and notorious playboy Tony Stark in Jon Favreau's groundbreaking superhero hit Iron Man.

Downey would go on to portray the delightfully cocky and unapologetic Stark for 10 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the talented actor and director helping launch the MCU and turn it into the billion-dollar media franchise it has since become in the 17 years since the release of Iron Man. Though it's impossible to imagine any other person filling the iconic role of Tony Stark, one famous TV and film star nearly had his...

Kraven the Hunter Officially Ends Box Office Run as 1 of Cinema History's Lowest-Earning Comic Book Films
Image
Kraven the Hunter has concluded its box office run, and the box-office bomb is now one of the lowest-earning comic book films in cinema history. The film's budget was reportedly over $150 million.

ComicBookMovie.com reports the latest and likely final box-office returns for Kraven the Hunter came in at $59 million worldwide, making it one of the lowest-grossing superhero movies of all time. The film, which starred Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff / Kraven, explored the Marvel Comics character's complex relationship with his father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe). Throughout the film, Kraven seeks out vengeance, becoming the world's greatest hunter on a journey that would lead up to the character becoming one of Spider-Man's greatest adversaries.

Kraven The Hunter Finishes Box Office Run With Under $60M - One Of The Lowest-Grossing CBMs Of All Time
Image
Sony Pictures' Kraven the Hunter is now available on Digital platforms, and its final box office numbers are in.

The studio's latest Ssu movie took in just $59 million worldwide over the course of its box office run. While this doesn't put it on the same level as something like 20th Century Fox's The New Mutants (just over $20 million), for example, factoring in Kraven's budget - reportedly over $150 million before P&a - and length of time in theaters marks it as one of the lowest-grossing superhero movies of all time (even the much-maligned Madame Web managed to pass $100M).

Kraven's failure may have effectively served as the final nail in the coffin for these Spider-Man-less Spider-Man spin-offs, but there may be life in the Ssu yet. Deadline recently reported that Sony is "taking this misfire very seriously," and "has a reset in store."

We're not sure what this...

Kraven The Hunter: Yes, Sony CG'd A Mouth And Blinking Eyes On A Still Image For A Scene In The Movie
Image
Kraven the Hunter has been another critical and commercial disaster for Sony Pictures, and there are many moments in the movie which became memes the instant it was released last month.

The fact Sony has delivered Marvel movies bad enough that they're the subject of ridicule more than scorn says a lot, and with Kraven the Hunter now available on Digital, another "Wtf?" discovery has been made.

As you may recall, Madame Web was widely criticised for its appalling use of Adr. The lips of many actors, though mostly Tahar Rahim's Ezekiel Sims, didn't match what they were saying and Sony seemingly came up with a unique solution for that in Kraven the Hunter.

Using a mixture of CG and, we'd guess, a hefty dose of AI, there's a scene late in the movie with Kraven and Calypso where the latter's face looks a little...off. They're talking about...

Kraven The Hunter Finds New Life On Digital - "The Kravin' For Kraven Is Real"
Image
It's... Kraven time?

Sony Pictures' latest Ssu movie, Kraven The Hunter, was not a box office success (to say the least), only managing to take in about $60 million worldwide on a reported budget of $110 million. The R-rated Marvel Comics adventure was also lambasted by critics, and now sits at 16% on Rotten Tomatoes (though it does have a much better Audience Score of 74%).

Kraven's failure may have effectively served as the final nail in the coffin for these Spider-Man-less Spider-Man spin-offs, but the movie has proven to be very popular on Digital platforms, and has actually become the No. 1 film on Apple TV+.

Of course, any new content usually does pretty well initially, so it remains to be seen how Kraven fares in the long term. That said, this is still a pretty impressive feat when you consider that the mighty Wicked also made its VOD debut recently.

Kraven The Hunter: Weird Deleted Scene Has Sergei Kravinoff Showing Off His Superhuman Speed (Really)
Image
Kraven the Hunter is now available on Digital platforms, meaning you can experience Sergei Kravinoff's origin story at home. A deleted scene has just dropped to mark the occasion and, well, it leaves us with much to discuss.

It opens with the gangster-hunting anti-hero sleeping in a London park before being woken up by a police officer. British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who uses an American accent in the movie, has what sounds like an oddly fake English accent as he attempts to convince the cop to leave him to his rest.

With that, Kraven shows off Flash-like superhuman speed as he races into action to save the office from being taken out by...a bicycle. Of course, Taylor-Johnson is no stranger to speedsters after previously playing the McU's Quicksilver.

It's not a good scene and that's probably why it was left on the cutting room floor. The biggest takeaway is...

Kraven The Hunter Clip Featuring Rhino Battle Has Marvel Fans Hating On "Awful" Movie All Over Again
Image
2024 wasn't a great year for superhero movies, but an R-Rated Kraven the Hunter at least had the potential to end things on a positive note. It didn't.

As expected, Sony Pictures delivered another critical and commercial flop; Spider-Man was nowhere to be found in Kraven's goofy origin story, with the villain instead becoming a gangster-hunting anti-hero with daddy issues. He did, however, battle Rhino in the movie's final act.

In a bid to pay homage to that character's comic book appearance, he became a mutant, of sorts. Unfortunately, even that didn't really work. Not only is he far too small but the cartoonish design makes one of Spidey's most formidable enemues look like a leftover from a 2005 comic book movie.

A clip of Kraven and Rhino's battle has been receiving a lot of attention on social media over the past 24 hours, largely for how ridiculous it all looks.

Kraven The Hunter: New Red Band Clip Released Ahead Of Tomorrow's Digital Debut
Image
If you decided to skip Kraven the Hunter in theaters, you'll be able to check out Sony Pictures' latest (possibly final) Ssu adventure when it arrives on Digital tomorrow before heading to 4K Uhd, Blu-ray & DVD on March 4.

To mark the release, IGN has debuted an exclusive 5-minute clip which spotlights one of the movie's most exciting action sequences, as Kraven (Aaron Taylor Johnson) chases down a group of mercenaries who have kidnapped his brother Dmitri (Fred Hechinger).

It's advertised as a red-band clip, but to be honest, there's really only one instance of violence and it's not particularly graphic.

'Kraven the Hunter' is Coming to Digital on January 14
Image
Kraven the Hunter was Sony's latest attempt at jumpstarting a new Spider-Man related movie franchise, but it might've just ended up being the final nail in the coffin of their short-lived cinematic universe. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kraven the Hunter not only struggled to impress critics and audiences alike, but it failed miserably at the box office. The funny part? Kraven is not even the worst Marvel movie they've put out in recent memory.

Per When to Stream, Kraven the Hunter is coming to digital platforms starting January 14. It will be available to rent or buy digitally on PVOD, but it's not clear when it will arrive on a streaming service. Netflix, which houses Madame Web, is the likely suspect when it comes to Kraven's streaming chances. Nevertheless, it is not shocking that the film is headed to digital a month after its theatrical debut. Kraven the Hunter only grossed $58 million worldwide,...

Sony's Most Disappointing Spider-Man Universe Movies, Ranked
Image
The following contains spoilers for Kraven the Hunter, now playing in theaters, as well as other Sony superhero movies.

It wasn't hard to predict the Sony Spider-Man Universe wouldn't make a big splash in the long run. Many were optimistic and hopeful, because the more comic book movies out there, the better. But without Spider-Man as the linchpin, these superhero movies and villain origins lacked the anchor needed to build momentum and resonance.

Peter Parker is the glue that webs all of these largely obscure characters together in the source material. Additionally, it's been reported that Kraven the Hunter is the final entry of this shared universe for the time being, and it's not hard to see why. The critics aren't pleased, and audience members aren't seeing anything worthwhile. But out of Sony's entire output, which movies are the bigger disappointments?

Kraven The Hunter Actor Alessandro Nivola On Movie's Negative Reception And That Bizzare Scream
Image
Alessandro Nivola currently finds himself in the rare position of garnering acclaim for his performance in one movie (The Brutalist), and being widely panned for his turn in another (Kraven the Hunter).

Sony's latest (likely final) Ssu movie received dismal reviews, and was another box office bomb for the studio. Nivola, who plays the villainous Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino, was asked about the negative reception during an interview with THR.

“I really don’t know what happened behind the scenes. On these kinds of movies, you hear about all the wranglings at the studio, and maybe there were too many chefs. I don’t know,” said the actor. “I don’t know enough about what the process was beyond just my experience of being on set, which was really joyful. So I didn’t have any sense of there being problems behind the scenes. But a lot of that probably...

'My Performance Was Praised': Kraven the Hunter's Rhino Actor Reacts to Disastrous Reception
Image
Kraven the Hunter did not have the reception that Sony Pictures had been hoping for, to say the least. Alessandro Nivola, who played the movie's incarnation of Rhino, has opened up about how the film performed.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Nissola suggested that the issue with Kraven the Hunter that may have contributed to its downfall was perhaps too many people involved with the project behind the scenes. From his own vantage point, the actor had a great time working on the film, so much so that it never occurred to him that there were going to be problems. He also said he didn't check out many reviews about the movie personally, though he'd learned about how a lot of them were giving praise to his performance in the film, even if the reviews were otherwise very negative.

Kraven the Hunter Receives More Bad News at the Box Office Despite Sony CEO Support
Image
Kraven the Hunter is Sony's latest addition to its rocky Spider-Man Universe. The film, which marks the first R-rated entry in the Ssu, has seen the worst performance yet.

Just two weeks following its Dec. 13 release, Kraven the Hunter has already dropped out of the Top 10 at the box office, as reported by Deadline. The superhero film, which gives life to the popular character from the Spider-Man comics, first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #15 in August 1964, stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the titular role. However, his recent star power and action roles didn't convince moviegoers to give the Ssu film a shot over the holiday and, instead, focused on other titles.

Tom Holland’s $407M Video Game Adaptation Changing Streaming Homes As The Wait For A Sequel Continues
Image
Tom Holland is a huge name in the industry right now. Though he has been acting since he was a child, he has shot up in fame since making his debut as everyone's favorite webslinger in Spider-Man: Homecoming back in 2017. Since then, the MCU has become the pinnacle of Holland's career. Three of these movies have made it into the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time at the worldwide box office, including Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Despite his success in the MCU, Holland's other films have often struggled to gain significant traction. His YA adaptation series attempt with Chaos Walking, for example, was a massive flop and did not get a sequel. He also teamed up with Avengers co-star Robert Downey Jr. in the 2020 film Dolittle, which underperformed at the box office, making $251.4 million on an estimated $175 million budget. Now, another one of...

Sony Pictures CEO Blames Critics For Madame Web & Kraven Flopping: "These Are Not Terrible Films"
Image
Though there might still be some life in Sony Pictures' Ssu, the franchise will be getting a major overhaul (at the very least) following the abysmal box office performance of the latest Spider-Man-less Spider-Man spin-off, Kraven the Hunter.

We're not sure how much any new take on the Ssu would actually be improved, however, as it doesn't sound like the studio's CEO is willing to admit that the quality of the movies has anything to do with them flopping at the Bo.

While speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra admitted that Kraven is “probably the worst launch we had” in the nearly eight years he’s been at the studio. “I still don’t understand," he added. "Because the film is not a bad film.”

The movie's 15% Rotten Tomatoes score would suggest that the majority of critics would disagree.

The Spider-Man films aside, none of...

Kraven The Hunter Passes $30M Worldwide As Mufasa: The Lion King Takes In $3M From Thursday Previews
Image
CGI critters are set to do battle at the box office this weekend, as Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog 3 races into theaters alongside Disney's The Lion King prequel.

The Sonic threequel got off to a better start on preview night, taking in $6.5 million on Thursday. Mufasa only managed $3 million, but is expected to have a stronger opening weekend worldwide.

According to the latest estimates, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is looking at around $55 million to $60 million domestically. Mufasa is on track for $50 million in North America, but will likely reign supreme internationally with $130 million overseas for a $180 million global debut (Sonic doesn't open internationally until Christmas Day).

As for Sony Pictures' Kraven the Hunter, the latest (and possibly final) Ssu movie has only just passed the $30 million mark worldwide since arriving in theaters on December 13. We knew the Spider-Man-less Spider-Man spin-off would need a Christmas miracle to avoid becoming another...

‘Kraven the Hunter’ Review – The latest misfire in the Spider-Manless Spiderverse
Image
Stars: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Russell Crowe, Alessandro Nivola, Fred Hechinger, Ariana DeBose, Christopher Abbott, Levi Miller | Written by Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway | Directed by J.C. Chandor

Kraven the Hunter was positioned as a darker, grittier entry in Sony’s knockoff Spider-Man Universe, exploring the origin story of one of Spider-Man’s most fearsome foes. Unfortunately, the film fails to deliver on nearly every front, leaving me somewhat disappointed and questioning the purpose of its very existence. Here, I am going to gleefully breakdown some of the film’s shortcomings.

A Script That Hunts Itself

The screenplay is the heart of any film, and Kraven the Hunter suffers from a muddled and uninspired script. Instead of crafting a compelling origin story, the narrative feels like a collection of generic tropes borrowed from better films. It awkwardly attempts (and fails) to balance Kraven’s tragic backstory with some not exactly subtle environmental themes,...

Rumor: Sony Pictures "Seriously Considering" Selling Spider-man IP Back To Marvel Studios
Image
Spider-Man, arguably Marvel Comics' most iconic and recognizable character, was off limits to Marvel Studios for many years, until an unprecedented deal was struck with Sony Pictures.

This agreement allowed both studios to share the wall-crawler within the MCU, starting with 2016’s Captain America: Civil War and 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. As part of the deal, Kevin Feige and former Sony Pictures chief Amy Pascal produced the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man films for Sony Pictures, and although it worked out very well for both parties, it did keep Holland’s Peter Parker from any Sony projects that aren’t officially part of the MCU.

We recently learned that the partnership "never precluded Sony from using Spider-Man in its movies that didn’t bear his name," but there was "a feeling within the studio that audiences would not accept Holland’s Spidey suddenly popping up in a live-action film that wasn...

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Dan Baker for Wbgr-fm on December 12th, reviewing “Kraven the Hunter,” the latest Marvel epic not from Disney but from Sony Studios. In theaters since December 13th.

Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and his brother Dmitri (Fred Hechinger) are raised to never show fear by their ruthless Russian oligarch father Nikolai (Russell Crowe). On a big game safari, Sergei is mauled by a lion, and through circumstance their blood mixes while Sergei drinks a healing elixir. He emerges with the lion’s strength, agility and senses as heightened superpowers, and becomes Kraven The Hunter, protector of nature and the animal kingdom.

There May Be Life In The Ssu Yet - Sony Pictures Now Said To Be Planning A "Reset" Following Kraven Disaster
Image
Sony Pictures may not be giving up on the Ssu after all.

Earlier this week, we heard that the studio had pretty much called it a day with the Spider-Man spin-off franchise after the negative reception (both critically and commercially) of the latest instalment, Kraven the Hunter, but it sounds like they might be planning to forge ahead after making some major changes.

According to Deadline, Sony is "taking this misfire very seriously," and "has a reset in store."

We're not sure what this means for the projects that were either already in development or being discussed, but wouldn't be at all surprised if the studio went back to the drawing board and scrapped any ideas that may have been in place.

Is a franchise focused on Spider-Man characters without the iconic wall-crawler something even worth attempting to salvage? Many fans would say no, but there's no denying the success of the Venom trilogy.

Kraven The Hunter Bombs With Worst Opening Weekend Of Sony Pictures' Ssu Franchise
Image
Kraven the Hunter is going to need a Christmas miracle if it hopes to avoid becoming the latest Ssu movie to bomb at the box office.

The latest (possibly final) Spider-Man-less Spider-Man spin-off from Sony Pictures debuted behind already low expectations, taking the at No. 3 spot at the domestic box office with just $11 million from 3,211 theaters. This marks the worst opening for one of the studio's Ssu movies, behind even notorious misfire Madame Web ($15.3 million).

Kraven did receive slightly better reviews than Madame Web (11%) with a still abysmal 15% on Rotten Tomatoes, and also earned a C grade on CinemaScore.

The Ssu is actually the only major superhero movie franchise with every instalment hit with a "Rotten" score on the review aggregator. Venom: Let There be Carnage came closest to getting a "Fresh" score with 57%.

Kraven the Hunter reportedly cost an upward of $110 million to produce (the budget is said to...

Kraven the Hunter Breaks an Extremely Disappointing Sony/Marvel Record
Image
Kraven the Hunter is D.O.A. The newest installment of Sony's Spider-Man Universe has finally made its way to theaters, and its opening has set a new record — but not one Sony was hoping for.

Per Variety, Kraven the Hunter opened with $4.7 million earned from Friday and preview screenings from 3,211 domestic theaters. This sets a new record low for Sony's Marvel movies, performing lower than the $6 million haul garnered by Madame Web earlier this year. The film is projected for a weekend total of around $13 million, which would also be lower than the $15.3 million made during Madame Web's three-day opening weekend. It remains to be seen how much money the film will make by the end of its theatrical run, but at this rate, Kraven the Hunter is not likely to turn a profit, given its $110 million budget.

Kraven the Hunter's Dismal Thursday Box Office Is a Rough Start for Final Ssu Movie
Image
Sony's Spider-Man Universe is set to go out with a whimper, not a bag. Kraven the Hunter's Thursday box office numbers have just been revealed, and it's not a good start for the Ssu movie.

According to Variety, Kraven the Hunter made $2 million in Thursday previews at the box office. That is by far the worst start yet for the Ssu, with Kraven's $2M significantly lower than the Thursday preview hauls for the Venom trilogy and Morbius ($5.7M). Madame Web, which opened on a Wednesday, earned $6 million on its first day. The R-rated Sony/Marvel movie is projected to make between $13 million and $15 million in its opening weekend, which, if accurate, will be the lowest opening weekend ever for the Ssu. Madame Web currently holds the unfortunate record with $15.3 million.

‘Kraven the Hunter’ Review
Image
Stars: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Russell Crowe, Alessandro Nivola, Fred Hechinger, Ariana DeBose, Christopher Abbott, Levi Miller | Written by Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway | Directed by J.C. Chandor

A beefed-up Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars in this superhero action thriller, the sixth and reportedly final entry in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (Ssu), following Morbius, Madame Web and the three Venom movies. As such, it’s not without its moments, but the action is largely generic and the exact nature of Kraven’s anti-hero status muddies the water a little bit.

Directed by J.C. Chandor, Kraven the Hunter starts well, with Kraven (Taylor-Johnson) infiltrating a Russian prison and then violently murdering a notorious gang boss by stabbing him in the neck with a sharp tooth from his own sabre tooth tiger rug. One swift prison break later – with Kraven displaying heightened abilities, including some familiar wall-crawling – and we’re off into flashback territory,...

Kraven The Hunter Star Ariana DeBose Wants To See Spider-man Showdown: "Give The People What They Want"
Image
Kraven the Hunter is now in theaters, and things are not looking good for Sony Pictures' latest (and likely final) Ssu movie.

Setting aside the dismal reviews (the movie is currently sitting at 14% on Rotten Tomatoes), updated box office estimates point to another flop for the studio, which makes the chances of a face-off with Spider-Man (if there ever was any) in a future film highly unlikely.

Even so, director J.C. Chandor and star Aaron Taylor-Johnson have shown interest in returning for an adaptation of Kraven's Last Hunt, and that's something Ariana DeBose really wants for her co-star.

“This is meant to be a standalone film and an origin story, but I do think Kraven deserves that epic showdown with Spider-Man,” DeBose told Variety. “There’s literally a whole comic about it. Give the people what they want. I think they should do that. And if there’s space...

What did you think of Kraven the Hunter?
Image
Kraven the Hunter is finally upon us after multiple delays. The bar for Sony’s Spider-Villain universe movies is pretty low, as the most successful movies in this universe have been the Venom series, which are still not the most well-received. However, Kraven has an uphill battle being in the company of online punching bags — Morbius and Madame Web. Those films were unanimously panned and even the director, J.C. Chandor, wants to wash away the bad taste of those attempts, “People have got to give us a chance and come out and support this film, and literally try to wash away some of the other stuff that’s happened. Give our film a chance.“

So, now that Kraven the Hunter is out, what did you think of it? Our own Chris Bumbray had higher hopes for this one but came away disappointed when he said in his review, “Kraven the...

Kraven The Hunter Spoilers: Does Spider-man Swing By In The Movie?
Image
Spider-Man has to show up in one of these Spider-Man spin-off movies... right?

As reasonable as it may be to assume that Sony must have been building towards an appearance from the Webhead in their "Sony's Spider-Man Universe" (Ssu) franchise, we saw hide nor hair of the iconic Marvel Comics superhero in the Venom trilogy, Morbius, or Madame Web.

The only mention of the character was in Morbius' much-maligned post-credits scene, but there were rumors (as there usually is) that Holland's take on the wall-crawler was set to appear in Kraven the Hunter.

As you probably won't be shocked to learn, Spidey does not swing by for a cameo.

There is one nod to the character, however. Towards the end of the movie, The Foreigner (Christopher Abbott) uses his abilities to torment Kraven (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) with his worst fear. Yes, you guessed it, he's arachnophobic.

Director J.C Chandor has...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Addresses Those Persistent Spider-Man Villain Crossover Movie Theories After Kraven The Hunter
Image
Now that Kraven the Hunter has hit theaters, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has addressed the possibility of reappearing in a future crossover movie within Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Kraven the Hunter is one of the foremost figures in Spider-Man's iconic rogues' gallery and the latest to be given a live-action origin story by Sony in Kraven the Hunter. Sony's Spider-Man movies are ostensibly interconnected, teasing the notion that Venom, Morbius, Madame Web and Kraven will at some point band together and finally star opposite the web-slinger himself.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson remains hopeful that this is a possibility, stating in an interview with CinePOP that he would love to star alongside other villains in a Sinister Six adaption. This team-up was first teased in the Morbius post-credits scene as the McU's Adrian Toomes/Vulture approaches Morbius and suggests a team-up. Taylor-Johnson also reiterates his long-held desire to adapt the "Kraven's Last Hunt" comic, which...

Where to Watch Kraven The Hunter: Showtimes & Streaming Status
Image
Kraven the Hunter bursts into theaters as the next installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, before the movie makes its way to digital and streaming releases. Kraven the Hunter depicts an origin story for the eponymous Spider-Man foe, brought to life by MCU alumni, Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The movie boasts the villain’s live-action debut, and the pressure is certainly on. Following the disappointing performances of Morbius and Madame Web, much of the Ssu’s future hinges on Kraven the Hunter’s box office performance.

The Ssu’s Kraven the Hunter follows Sergei Kravinoff, whose complicated relationship with his father compels him into becoming the greatest and most feared hunter the world has ever seen. While the character is known in the comics as a big game hunter, Taylor-Johnson has specified that this rendition of the character is not a poacher, but rather an apex predator on a mission to protect...

Kraven the Hunter Review
Image
Filled with enough family upheaval to stuff a John Osborne play and a stellar action turn from star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kraven the Hunter is too beholden to its superhero roots – and too afraid to push its familial drama as far as possible – to get the most out of its disparate pieces.

The choice to make films about Spider-Man villains without the man himself has been fraught and unproductive so far (no amount of box office will give the Venom films a soul) as filmmaker after filmmaker has searched for something to fill that web-shaped hole. Director J.C. Chandor, no stranger to character drama, has looked inward to one of Spider-Man’s oldest C-list foes to ask what would a man named Sergei Kravinoff, who dresses in a lion skin suit to hunt dangerous animals, be in this modern world?

The logical answer is a scion of Russian oligarchs and crime bosses.

‘Kraven the Hunter’ Review: Only Russell Crowe Understood the Assignment
Image
Poster for ‘Kraven the Hunter’

Remember back when Madam Web came out and we all hoped Sony would do better with its Marvel properties with Kraven the Hunter? Yeah, we need to keep hoping. It seems as if Sony just doesn’t even care about these Marvel movies anymore.

Kraven the Hunter is about a Russian man named Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson from Nosferatu) who survived a lion attack as a boy when a girl named Calypso (Ariana DeBose from I.S.S.) gave him a special elixir. The potion not only saved his life, but gave him incredible strength, speed, and agility. As a grown man, he decides to use these new skills to become Kraven the Hunter, a vigilante who goes after the worst of the worst criminals.

Unfortunately for Kraven, his father, Nikolai (Russell Crowe from The Exorcist), is himself one of these worst of the worst,...
