What Happens To Zenzi In The Unseen Season 1 Ending?
Image
Netflix's South African crime thriller Unseen ends protagonist Zenzi's journey on a completely ambiguous note — here's what happened to her. Unseen is based on the Turkish series Fatma and follows a cleaner whose husband has inexplicably gone missing after being released from a two-year prison sentence. Unseen chronicles Zenzi's (Gail Mabalane) journey to find her missing husband Max (Vuyo Dabula), but along the way she finds herself caught up in the dark underbelly of her husband's gang who thwart her attempts and try to use her newfound proficiency for murder for their own gain.

Netflix's Unseen had somewhat middling reviews upon its release, but Zenzi's story became more complicated and intriguing as the series went on. Toward the end of Unseen, Zenzi finds herself being chased by both the gang and the police. Zenzi lets her son's killer Raymond (Brendon Daniels) die in a burning building after their final confrontation,...

Full Trailer for 'Unseen' Netflix Crime Thriller Series with Gail Mabalane
Image
"Pushed, provoked and desperate she will do anything to get her family back." Netflix has revealed the full-length official trailer for a series called Unseen from South Africa. Available to stream worldwide later in March. Who is Zenzi Mwale? Netflix's new six-part crime thriller Unseen narrates the story of a nondescript domestic worker who goes on a desperate search for her missing husband, and along the way she comes up against powerful and violent criminals. Her reaction to the immense and immediate danger she faces is not as timid as she seems. Starring Gail Mabalane as Zenzi Mwale, the series includes an impressive list of South African actors such as Rapulana Seiphemo, Vuyo Dabula, Colin Moss, Shimmy Isaacs, and Dineo Langa. This looks like it might be a good series, though the music choice for this trailer is a bit odd considering the dark mood and intensity of everything happening.

Pearl Thusi in Queen Sono (2020)
Another Netflix series bites the dust.

The streamer has officially pulled the plug on its first African original series, Queen Sono, despite previously picking up a second season.

South African news outlet Channel24 has revealed the cancellation comes due to production challenges brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

“A huge thank you to our fans across the world for the love shared for our first African Original series.

“Netflix is also grateful to the… cast and crew for their stellar efforts in creating this show for our members around the world,” the statement continued.

‘Queen Sono’ Trailer: Netflix’s First African Original Series Stars a Jason Bourne-Like Heroine
Netflix has released a trailer for its anticipated first African original series, titled “Queen Sono.” The series represents the streaming giant’s ongoing push into the African continent — a still relatively untapped source of talent and content.

“Queen Sono” is a South African crime drama created by actor and director Kagiso Lediga, starring Pearl Thusi (“Quantico”) as a Jason Bourne-like operative who tackles dangerous missions while contending with personal challenges.

Thusi is joined in front of the camera by Vuyo Dabula, Sechaba Morojele, Chi Mhende, Loyiso Madinga, Rob Van Vuuren, Kate Liquorish, Khathu Ramabulana, Enhle Maphumulo, Abigail Kubeka, Connie Chiume, Otto Nobela and James Ngcobo. The series was ordered for a six-episode first season by Netflix in December 2018, with Lediga as executive producer alongside Tamsin Andersson. Lediga and Tebogo Malope directed all six episodes.

The first season is set to be released on Netflix in its entirety on February 28.

Tiff Review: ‘Five Fingers for Marseilles’ Relocates the Western to South Africa’s Eastern Cape
Director Michael Matthews and writer Sean Drummond were drawn to the landscapes of South Africa’s Eastern Cape while traveling their homeland, especially the echoes of classic cinematic western environments. Learning about how its current towns arose — from the ashes of Apartheid-era cities mimicking European capitals by name — only cemented the comparison, each a product of the locals taking control once their oppressors left after their government changed hands and the train lines shutdown. This new frontier became the pair’s setting, their story gelling after seven years of research and development to do right by the inhabitants’ history and struggles. Sprinkle in a bit of legend and lore to create an antihero hidden beneath rage and Five Fingers for Marseilles was born.

The title describes a quintet of childhood friends caught within Apartheid’s grip. Too young to feel the effects as greatly as their defeated parents, they’re...
