- Acting is not simply 'pretending'. No one wants to turn on their favorite TV show or go to the movies to see someone on the screen 'pretending'. An audience can sniff out a pretender. What they want is a connection. Acting is the art of being...an innate ability to reach deep within one's own life experiences, bringing those real and raw emotions to the scene, and using that to connect with the audience. If you can do that, you'll have a chance to succeed in this business.
- It's very easy to get lost in the thoughts of what one has NOT accomplished in this business. Instead, focus on those things you HAVE accomplished, and use those wins as the fuel that keeps pushing you forward.
- Sadly, there are some people in this world who feel that their power or position can only be attained by making others feel small. I do not understand, nor do I condone this mindset. Be kind to one another. It costs nothing to take a moment to put a smile on someone's face, and let them know that they matter.
- While we often view learning new skills or crafts as a means to grow, never underestimate the power of FAILURE. No one enjoys failure, but those struggles hold value. They will teach us lessons. Learn from your mistakes. There is value in learning the right way to do something...but there may be even greater value in learning what NOT to do, if you are to become a success.
- I dreamed of acting from a young age, but growing up, I never saw anyone that looked like me on screen. Because of this, I never believed that there was a place for me in TV or movies. This created a lot of self-doubt. Representation matters. It kept me from really taking a shot at acting until I was in my 40's. Things are changing, and I hope to be a part of that change, especially for the little kids now who need to see that it is possible to chase this dream.
