Seal Team: The Complete Series DVD review: A fantastic package for the military drama
Image
Seal Team: The Complete Series has hit DVD for a fantastic watch for this hit drama!

Running from 2017 to 2024, Seal Team may not have been a huge ratings winner, but it amassed a loyal following during its run. Debuting on CBS, the series focuses on Bravo Team, an elite Seal unit who handle various emergencies across the world. It’s led by Jason Hayes (David Boreanaz), a veteran who feels alive in the field. Backing him up are Clay Spenser (Max Thieriot), Ray Perry (Neil Brown Jr.), Sonny Quinn (A.J. Buckley), and Lisa Davis (Toni Trucks), who eventually moves to become an intelligence officer. Also around for the first few seasons is Mandy Ellis (Jessica Paré), the team’s CIA liaison.

The show excels at showing the drama of being in the military, as the team has to handle missions in the most dangerous spots in the world. They’re...

The ‘Npc’ Energy List: 13 TV Characters Who Are Basically Background Extras
Image
Once you get seriously into gaming, you will quickly notice there are two types of characters.

Playable characters, usually the central protagonist and or a group of friends the protagonists interact with that you occasionally control.

You’re bound to run into some memorable enemies along the way, with their Shakespearean monologues and super laser weapon systems.

(Chris Reardon/Epix)

Most of the characters you see will be “Non-playable characters” who have no real personalities but just sort of limp along with you to advance the plot.

It turns out that these NPCs are all over television, too.

Some of these NPCs are obvious.

They’re not quite at the level of “characters overstaying their welcome,” but they do seem to elicit a ho-hum from most of the audience.

Here are 13 NPCs or characters with “Non-Playable Character Energy” who feel like they’re on autopilot, just waiting for the main...

Why Seal Teams Final Season Didnt Bring Back Max Thieriots Clay Explained By EP
Image
Seal Team's showrunner and executive producer Spencer Hednut explains why the show's final ten episodes did not feature an appearance by Max Thieriot as Clay Spenser. Even though he'd been with the action drama series since the very beginning, Thieriot left during season 6 to focus on his dual roles as the co-creator and lead star of Fire Country. Even though Hednut left the door for a possible cameo by Thieriot, in the form of a flashback or a dream sequence, Seal Team ended without the veteran television actor reprising his role.

In an interview with TV Insider to discuss the conclusion of the long-running action series, Hednut gave a detailed explanation for Clay's absence. The showrunner mentioned that it was difficult to work out an appearance by Thieriot because of his commitments to Fire Country. Still, in the quote below, Hednut argues that Clay's presence can be felt throughout the season:

Truthfully,...

David Boreanaz Reveals Next TV Show Plans After Seal Team
Image
David Boreanaz teases his next TV project following the end of his seven-season run on Seal Team. A familiar face to TV fans, Boreanaz broke out with the role of Angel on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, continuing his portrayal of the vampire with a soul on the spinoff Angel for 5 seasons before starring opposite Emily Deschanel for 12 seasons on the procedural drama Bones. More recently, the veteran performer wrapped up his run as Master Chief Jason Hayes. He's already looking ahead to his next role, with Seal Team's ending in the rearview mirror.

During an interview with Variety to discuss his time as Jason Hayes, Boreanaz was asked about his next TV role. The actor pushes back against the idea that he is always working, offering context as to how he's been a consistent presence on the small screen for the better part of three decades. Though he declined to offer specific story details,...

"It's Mindless Entertainment": David Boreanaz Gives Candid & Detailed Response On Bones Revival
Image
Bones alum David Boreanaz candidly discusses reviving the popular procedural drama, giving one of his most detailed answers about the possibility of returning as Seeley Booth. The popular Fox show, which was co-led by Emily Deschanel as Temperance "Bones" Brennan, has long been the topic of a revival in large part because of the chemistry between the two main stars. Even though Boreanaz has distanced himself from a Bones revival in the past, he's given a more measured response recently.

Looking ahead at what's next in his career following the end of his seven-season run as Jason Hayes on Seal Team, Boreanaz was asked by Variety about the possibility of returning for a Bones revival. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel actor began by reflecting on the fact that he misses working with Deschanel. From there, Boreanaz says there have been conservations about bringing back Booth and Brennan and...

'We Played With the Idea': Seal Team Star Says Jason Was Nearly Killed Off
Image
The Paramount+ series Seal Team recently wrapped its seventh season. Following the series finale, David Boreanaz, who played Master Chief Special Warfare Operator Jason Hayes, addressed his character's fate in the military drama.

Speaking to Variety, Boreanaz revealed that the creative team had contemplated killing Jason. "We played with the idea in one season where he is taking more of a command in the Havoc [control] room and trying to feel what that would feel like," the actor said. "Personally, for me to put the character in that situation, I didn't feel that it made sense. I think it would be more awkward and a little bit more fish out of water. I mean, Master Chief wouldn't really be a fish out of water, but for that situation it'd be boring."

‘Seal Team’ Leaves The Door Open For More In Series Finale
Image
Spoiler Alert: The following article contains spoilers from Sunda’s series finale of CBS’ Seal Team.

With a final episode aired Sunday, Oct. 6, the CBS Studios military drama Seal Team has come to a close. Spanning seven seasons about an elite unit of U.S. Navy SEALs across CBS and Paramount+, it was one of the few series to bridge the gap between networks and streamers.

After a successful mission end in the penultimate episode of Seal Team Season 7, which resulted in the capture of a major fentanyl drug trader and elimination of a Green Beret traitor, Jason Hayes (David Boreanaz) and Team Bravo head home to Virginia Beach. But the reprieve with family, as they process the intense events of the season, is short-lived, with the unit deployed to Afghanistan for one final mission.

Throughout the tenth episode, Jason struggles to reconcile with the copious amounts of blood on his hands,...

On the Seal Team Series Finale, The Last Goodbye Is a Hopeful One
Image
The Seal Team Series Finale is upon us.

Seal Team Season 7 Episode 10 offered us a surprisingly feel-good ending, which was a far cry from what many of us imagined as the season progressed.

All large arcs were wrapped up, and if there were any smaller arcs that needed attention, there was a good reason for that.

(Trae Patton/Paramount+) The Feel-Good Seal Team Series Finale

My interview with showrunner Spencer Hudnut was published in conjunction with this review. In it, he revealed that for nine episodes, they were under the impression that the series would continue.

That answers a lot about the final season and even lends credence to many of our theories.

He said they had 30 pages of script to wind down the overarching season arcs and the entire series.

That’s an extraordinarily heavy lift, but the Seal Team series finale did an amazing job considering that shocking and sad reality.

Seal Team Showrunner Spencer Hudnut On The Feel-Good Finale, Wrapping Up With Short Notice
Image
After seven strong seasons of storytelling, we’re saying goodbye to Seal Team.

Seal Team has reminded us of the casualties of war, not just in battle, but by watching characters struggle to find a balance between the ugly side of their profession and a home life they desperately crave.

Seal Team Season 7 drove that point home with a final season that found Jason Hayes, Ray Perry, Sonny Quinn, and Lisa Perry considering what’s next.

We had the opportunity to jump on Zoom with showrunner Spencer Hudnut for more insight into Seal Team Season 7 and the surprisingly feel-good finale.

Yes. Hard to believe that we’re at the end here.

It’s kind of painful.

I know; it is painful. I can feel the viewers’ pain, and I can sense it among the cast. We’re all reaching out,...

Seal Team Series Finale Ending Explained
Image
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from the Seal Team series finale, "The Last Word."

The end of Seal Team is finally here, and the series finale is as emotional as anyone predicted. Paramount+'s military drama, created by Benjamin Cavell, premiered in September 2017 and ran for seven seasons before concluding in October 2024. The journey was rough, but in the end, every Seal Team character got a happy ending.

All season long, Jason Hayes has been struggling with what war has done to him. He essentially believes that he is only a killing machine for the U.S. government, and Jason resides to accept that fate. He thinks that war has the last word. Thankfully, Jason comes to his senses by the hour's end because of Mandy Ellis' and Ray Perry's advice. However, while many expected Jason to die in the Seal Team series finale or, at the very least,...

How Will ‘Seal Team’ End? What to Expect, From Jason’s Struggle to a Major Question
Image
Heading into the Seal Team series finale, Bravo 1, Jason Hayes (David Boreanaz), has been tasked with an assignment from way above command, separating him from his brothers: to take out traitor Curtis (Mac Brandt). Drew (Beau Knapp), who does his best work in the moral gray area, goes with him. “As he says to Ray, there’s a reason Jason realizes why they tasked him with this—because command, much like how Jason sees himself, sees him as a killer,” executive producer Spencer Hudnut tells TV Insider. “Also, Curtis is a figure whom [Jason] sees so much of himself in, mostly for worse. And so I think he’s definitely considering the gravity of the situation.” He continues, “I mean, to take out another American, but also someone whom Jason, I think, recognizes was failed by the same system that failed Swanny [Tony Curran], that’s failed so many of Jason’s other teammates,...

Seal Team Season 7 Episode 9 Review: The Sea And The Hills
Image
And here we are. Seal Team Season 7 Episode 9 is the penultimate hour, setting up everything for the series’s swan song. Did it do the work?

I think so.

It’s not easy to say goodbye to a team as close as Bravo. Looking back at the series as a whole, the Bravo team has been and remains the main attraction. They feel like family.

(Pablo Arellano Spataro/Paramount+)

But this family is coming to an end, at least in its current incarnation. What comes next will exclude us, so everything is riding on the Seal Team finale.

Please note that I have seen the finale, so this review will be a little different. I’m not going to speculate, as I don’t want to give anything away. That’s the last thing I would want for those of us who have spent so much time with Bravo.

Seal Team Season 7 Episode 9 Ending Explained
Image
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Seal Team season 7, episode 9, "The Sea and the Hills."

Following a close call in the previous episode, Bravo is still ready to risk it all in Seal Team season 7, episode 9. David Borenanaz's Jason Hayes is desperate to capture Ramon Nazario and put an end to the fentanyl drug trade operation between the former Honduran Special Forces colonel and China. While Bravo is also invested in the mission, Jason has a personal connection after his son, Mikey, overdosed on fentanyl in Seal Team season 7, episode 6. Thankfully, instead of continuing to hide this secret from his team, Jason tells Bravo about Mikey.

Nazario's overall objective is to overthrow the Honduran government, and his deal with China is aiding that goal.

Despite learning that this mission is personal for Jason, the rest of Bravo are ready to throw themselves into the fire in the...

Seal Team Season 7 Episode 8 Review: Appetite for Destruction
Image
We’re two episodes out from the series finale, and things are finally beginning to take shape.

Jason was out for blood on Seal Team Season 7 Episode 8, which gave Ray even greater pause about his looming retirement.

“Appetite for Destruction” is an intense hour that still finds time for the team’s softer side and goes to great lengths to mold the future.

(Pablo Arellano Spataro/Paramount+) Old-School Bravo Behavior

The latest op provides an opportunity for Lisa to join Bravo in the field and gives Drew his first taste of Bravo at its best.

Drew has only heard tales about Bravo and Jason Hayes. Sure, he’s been a (reluctant) part of the team all season, but Jason hasn’t been himself. For this episode, at least, he’s even more than himself.

The True Meaning Behind David Boreanazs 'Seal Team' Helmet
Image
Though Seal Team began as a network series on CBS, it eventually made its way to Paramount+ where it became one of those shows that defied the odds. Now in its seventh and final season, the series chronicles the adventures of the elite Bravo Team of U.S. Navy SEALs led by Master Chief Special Warfare Operator Jason Hayes, played to perfection by veteran television actor David Boreanaz. Though you might recognize Boreanaz from his time on the vampire series Angel or the procedural drama Bones, he's made an impressive name for himself in this military thriller, reminding us why he always seems to have consistent work as a leading man. But before we say goodbye to Hayes and his fellow SEALs, let's get back to basics. If you're one of the eagle-eyed fans who has noticed something unique about Hayes' helmet on the show, then you'd be onto something.

It’s also possible that I’m looking for more with so few episodes remaining. Hoping for closure for any series is always a desire, but when you’re talking about a military show, what does that even look like?

Thankfully, Ray’s retirement is looming, which gives us a good idea of what a person in a healthy, loving relationship may find after 20 years of service.

The next episode airs Aug. 18; the series finale will drop Oct. 6.

Seal Team Season 7 Episode 2 Ending Explained
Image
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Seal Team season 7, episode 2.

Jason's Tbi was triggered after the terrorist attack, impacting his mental health in Seal Team season 7. Bravo Team successfully stopped terrorists in the mall but they are still on shore duty. Sonny's assault on Colonel Decker will have consequences as the Army investigates in season 7.

Following the explosive part 1 of the season 7 premiere, the Seal Team characters worked hard to stop terrorists from targeting citizens in a mall in episode 2, "Chaos in the Calm Pt. 2." Although they were ultimately successful, lots of blood was shed, lives were lost, and Bravo 1 is still nowhere closer to returning to active duty. David Boreanaz's Jason Hayes and his team were the heroes of the episode (as they normally are). But the reality is that most of the men are struggling mentally, which will likely affect the rest of the Paramount+ military drama's final season.

When news broke that Seal Team would end with its seventh season, it wasn’t too much of a surprise.

The CBS-turned-Paramount+ drama has been slowly preparing for the end of its run over the last few seasons, with the character arcs slowly but surely reaching their final stages.

Paramount+ shared the first two episodes of Seal Team Season 7 with critics ahead of its launch, and it’s fair to say that these installments have a sense of finality.

Jason Hayes (David Boreanaz) has always been the heart and soul of Seal Team, even though the character has made countless questionable decisions over the years.

The first two episodes of the final installment find Jason reflecting on his career, thanks in large part to his decision to go against Command and reveal the truth about his Tbi.

Due to those actions, there were always going to be mass changes in the show,...

Bravo’s very final easy days begin this Sunday, Aug. 11, when Seal Team launches its 10-episode farewell run on Paramount+.

Season 6 left off with Bravo’s fate uncertain, given an impressive but surely damning demonstration of solidarity. Team leader Jason Hayes had disclosed — at his Navy Cross ceremony, no less — his Tbi and compromised state on recent missions, after which he was called on the carpet by superiors. “You created one hell of a mess, and left us no choice but to stand you down,” Blackburn announced.

David Boreanaz reveals he would have been done with Seal Team even if season 8 was happening
Image
Seal Team is about to unleash its seventh and final season and David Boreanaz is sharing what may be in store for his character and why he thinks it's a good time to end!

The show has had an interesting journey. Premiering on CBS in 2017, the series focuses on a Navy Seal team undergoing dangerous missions across the world. Boreanaz stars as Bravo Unit's team leader Jason Hayes. Partway through season 5, the show moved to Paramount+ which allowed them to take on more adult situations like language and violence.

The series has done well, with season 6 ending with Jason speaking out at a medal ceremony on his injuries and the toll they take, which the military ignored. That could get him in hot water as season 7 begins, which is confirmed as the final year.

Fans may be saddened by that but, speaking to TVInsider, Boreanaz shared that even if the...

Bones' Police Advisor Put David Boreanaz Through High Pressure Sniper Training
Image
When you think of the long-running Fox procedural "Bones," what do you think of? Skeletons of every kind — goopy, burned, rotting, frozen, and so on — on display while Emily Deschanel's forensic anthropologist examined them for clues? A will-they-won't-they romance between her character, Temperance Brennan, and David Boreanaz's FBI agent Seeley Booth? That one post-"American Idol" episode where The Gravedigger's head explodes?

By virtue of the show's title alone, it's unlikely that Booth's sharpshooting is the first thing that comes to mind for fans of the series. The character was great at his job, but any number of FBI cool guy antics paled in comparison to Bones' own nitty-gritty investigative work. Still, Boreanaz apparently worked hard behind the scenes to make sure Booth's status as a former Army sniper was believable, even going so far as to train with the show's police technical adviser, according to Paul Ruditis' book "Bones: The Official Companion.

I'm Very Worried About David Boreanaz's Jason In Seal Team Season 7
Image
Seal Team's final season premieres in August 2024, raising concerns about the fate of main character Jason Hayes. Jason's potential death could provide a definitive ending for the series, all while preventing future spinoffs or sequels. The character's death in the finale seems fitting, especially given his unwavering dedication and sacrifice throughout the series.

As Seal Team season 7 nears, I'm becoming more worried about David Boreanaz's Jason Hayes. The CBS military drama has six seasons under its belt, with the seventh and final outing set to premiere in August 2024. The long-running series centers on Bravo Team a subunit of the US Naval Special Warfare Development Group as the elite Navy SEALs take on dangerous missions across the globe. The well-written characters were what I found most compelling about Seal Team in its debut season. For the most part, that hasn't changed over the show's many outings.

Seal Team Season 7 Just Teased Several Massive Changes For Bravo Team's Future
Image
Jason Hayes's role changes in Seal Team season 7 after revealing his traumatic brain injury in season 6. New characters Drew Franklin and Captain Walch usher in changes for the Bravo Team. Relationships are tested in Seal Team season 7 as the characters face pressure and adapt to a new era of warfare.

Seal Team has one more season left before it ends its 100-plus episode run, and the final season's trailer divulges a lot of information about the upcoming episodes, including how things change after Clay Spenser's death in season 6. The CBS/Paramount+ military drama debuted in 2017 and garnered a sizable audience and impressive ratings. However, like most shows, the drama's numbers began to trend downward, resulting in CBS moving Seal Team to Paramount+ in season 5. The series ultimately lasted for one and a half seasons on the streaming service before Paramount+ pulled the plug, making the seventh season its last.
