As South Park fans are well aware, the show’s future is extremely uncertain thanks to the pending Paramount-Skydance merger. Lawyers have been hired, legal threats have been delivered and bitter social media messages have been posted.
But this is hardly the first time that South Park has dealt with sticky legal situations. One case was especially sticky, because it involved an anthropomorphic piece of candy.
Back in 2007, South Park’s 11th season delivered the epic, three-episode-long “Imaginationland.” Originally envisioned as a theatrical film, “Imaginationland” found the kids visiting a fantastical world where all the characters created by humanity’s imagination reside — from Count Chocula to Jason Voorhees to Totoro.
While the show was full of familiar copyright-protected characters, including Disney’s precious Mickey Mouse, the only person to file any sort of legal complaint was some guy claiming to be the creator of the “Lollipop King,” who was literally just a talking lollipop.

Decades later, Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar snub for Pulp Fiction still stings and is Academy’s one of most debated decisions. While Forrest Gump swept the Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for Robert Zemeckis, many argue that Tarantino was a true visionary who was overlooked that year.
Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has also thrown fuel on the fire with his comments about the Tom Hanks starrer, which is widely considered to be one of the best movies of all time. Was the feature a deserved winner? Maybe. But was Tarantino overlooked at the ceremony? Absolutely!

Let’s make one thing clear: Forrest Gump is indeed a great film and an all-time classic. It did win Best Picture at the 67th Academy Awards in 1995, and that wasn’t without merit.

Few movies are more iconic than the 1997 classic Titanic. Directed by James Cameron, the epic tale of love and loss at sea, based on a true story, is still, nearly 30 years on, one of the highest-grossing movies ever. In total, the movie earned an enormous $2.2 billion at the box office, split between a domestic haul of $674 million and a huge $1.54 billion from overseas markets.
Made for a reported $200 million, which was an enormous production budget at the time, Titanic sailed to a legacy many would never match, certainly no other movie from the last century, with Titanic the only film in the top 40 highest-grossing titles of all time to not have debuted in the last 25 years. With such an impressive box office pedigree, and with the film still a huge cultural touchstone and a point of reference in many people's regular discourse, it will come as little surprise to learn...

A Tom Hanks classic has found a new home on Peacock from July 1 as Forrest Gumpcomes to the streaming platform. As the film that earned Hanks his second Oscar for Best Actor following Philadelphia the year before, this 1994 hit also took home other major Academy Awards like Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Coming from Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis, Forrest Gump represented the first of several collaborations with Hanks that include later favorites like Cast Away, The Polar Express, and, most recently, Here. As a film that traversed much of the history of 20th-century America through the life of one man, Forrest Gump struck a chord with viewers at the time.

Jeopardy! fans are divided about new champion Klay Frappier's strategy after he won the June 27 episode of the game show. Jeopardy! winner Klay defeated returning champion Rocco Graziano and Michelle Arguelles in the game, earning $20,001. Now he'll have the chance to break the show's 11-day streak of one-day champions.
Jeopardy! fans are divided about new champion Klay Frappier's strategy after he won the June 27 episode of the game show.
In a Jeopardy! Reddit thread, fans were divided about Klay's top-down strategy for choosing questions in each category one at a time, rather than bouncing around to higher-level questions in multiple categories in order to confuse opponents and find the Daily Doubles. The latter strategy was first used by contestant Chuck Forrest, who made his Jeopardy! debut in 1985, so it's referred to as the Forrest Bounce.

Filming for the third season of House of the Dragon is ongoing. The show will forge ahead adapting George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood, about a brutal civil war fought between factions of the Targaryen dynasty. There are lots of characters in the mix, some front and center, some in the background. But in an ensemble show like this, any can steal the spotlight, if only for a moment.
In season 2, we were briefly introduced to a character named Lady Sabitha Frey, whom Jaecaerys Velaryon (Harry Collett) met with partway through the season. Lady Sabitha is the head of House Frey alongside her husband Forrest, played by Kenneth Collard. They agreed to throw their lot in with Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) and open the gates of the Twins, the ancestral seat of House Frey, to an army of Northerners on their way south; we saw that group crossing...

It was the kind of tragedy that happens all too often in a city of more than 8 million: a body found, beaten and bloodied, in the back of an ambulette in a far-flung corner of the Bronx. Skeletal branches created a cathedral over the lonely vehicle where the 64-year-old man had breathed his last, the winter-gray river placid in the background behind a ramble of fences. “It’s a nice place to do bad things,” an unidentified neighbor told the press.

Tom Hanks was nominated for an Academy Award for his 1988 film, Big. He was exceptional in the film as Josh Baskin, a 13-year-old boy who is magically turned into an adult man. However, the film almost made a major mistake by not casting Hanks in the lead role in the film. Instead, the film initially preferred Harrison Ford in the role.
However, it is highly unlikely that Ford could’ve given the same performance that Hanks did in the film. The film was a huge hit at the time, making $151.7 million at the box office against a budget of $18 million. It was a critical favorite as well, also thanks to the Forrest Gump actor’s performance.

Echo On Publications has published official novelizations of Maniac Cop, Maniac Cop 2, and Maniac Cop 3.
They’re written by Echo On editor-in-chief Christian Francis, who has authored novelizations of Wishmaster, Session 9, and the forthcoming In the Mouth of Madness.
All three novelizations are available individually in trade paperback and e-book or collected together in a hardcover edition.
In Maniac Cop, “In the heart of New York City, innocent people are being slaughtered in cold blood-by someone wearing a police uniform. As fear grips the streets, rookie officer Jack Forrest becomes the prime suspect after the brutal murder of his own wife. But Jack isn’t the killer… and the real threat is far more terrifying.
“Lieutenant Frank McCrae’s investigation uncovers a horrifying truth: a relentless, inhuman force is stalking the city-a man once sworn to serve and protect, now back from the grave and out for blood.

Back in 1988, director William Lustig and late, great screenwriter Larry Cohen joined forces to bring us the awesome slasher movie Maniac Cop. They made a follow-up two years later, and Maniac Cop 2 is one of the rare horror sequels that’s generally considered to be even better than its predecessor. Things got questionable with 1993’s troubled Maniac Cop 3, where Cohen’s script received extensive rewrites from producer Joel Soisson and Lustig was so disinterested in the whole thing that he took his name off the movie. But now, Lustig has teamed up with author Christian Francis for novelizations of each film in the Maniac Cop trilogy – and those three books have all been released today!
The Maniac Cop novelization is available at This Link and has the following description: In the heart of New York City, innocent people are being slaughtered in cold blood-by someone wearing a police uniform.

A best-selling smash before being adapted into a trilogy of similarly successful movies, author E.L James' "Fifty Shades of Grey" is a strong reminder that sex sells. The novels and their cinematic adaptations explored a central romance that dealt heavily in eroticism and uninhibited sexual passion. The story occasionally broached on darker themes, bordering on the thriller genre, but maintained its key narrative focus on the sensuality between its lead characters. Fortunately, for those looking for similar steamy stories or dark explorations into sexuality, there are a number of acclaimed movies to follow up the "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy.
Whether it's the ultimate in cinematic bad romances or neo-noir thrillers that have a decidedly erotic tinge, plenty of movies provide unflinching on-screen sensuality. To be clear, this isn't just a collection of movies that would make your parents blush but rather well-crafted films that happen to be linked by frank sexual themes.

Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis developed an interest in film and television at an early age and first worked in his native Chicago as an editor for TV commercials and news programs. This work led him to apply as a transfer student to the University of Southern California film school where his application material included a music video, set to a song by The Beatles. (Not surprisingly his first film would be “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” about a bunch of high school students obsessed with Beatlemania.)
He was initially rejected by USC but he begged an official to reconsider and promised to bring his low grade point average up by attending summer school. This brashness would also play a big part in his initial success as a director when he barged into Steven Spielberg’s office with a copy of his student film and asked Spielberg to employ him. The...

On paper, Tesla CEO and Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk sounds like he should be cool and likable, but Elon Musk isn’t on paper. He’s on Twitter, and he’s the biggest loser ever.
As John Mulaney lamented during tonight’s episode of his Netflix talk show Everybody's Live with John Mulaney, it wasn’t that long ago when resenting the federal government and thinking that it sucks was a cool thing that cool, normal, non-fascist people did while listening to indie music. Mulaney, who spent roughly 30 seconds of his opening monologue tonight insisting that he is a liberal person with liberal thoughts and liberal opinions about the role of the government in our lives, misses the time when everyone thought the president was a scumbag, but planes still took off and landed without crashing, vaccines saved lives and cancer researchers had funding.

In a major leadership reorganization at South by Southwest, Jenny Connelly, the executive vice president of product and technology at SXSW parent company Pmc, was elected by the SXSW board to lead the long-running film, music and technology festival with the title director in charge. (Pmc is also the parent company of Variety.)
Connelly has overseen digital and technology strategy and execution at Pmc since 2017, and previously spent seven years as an executive at Live Nation. Her new position at SXSW was announced during a town hall meeting on April 25. Connelly replaces SXSW president Hugh Forrest, who has departed the company.
According to a statement from a Pmc spokesperson, Forrest “made the decision to leave SXSW” after he learned “he wasn’t going to get the CEO title at SXSW” and would be reporting to Connelly. In a separate statement, however, Forrest said his departure “was definitely not my decision.

Did Tom Hanks’ daughter have a secret role in his movie? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
At a New York City event held on April 8, 2024, Elizabeth Anne Hanks took a trip down memory lane (with a smile). Seated next to her father, Tom Hanks, at the 92nd Street Y, began by referencing her fleeting appearance in Forrest Gump, quipping, “Shall we just address the Forrest Gump cameo right away?”
As it turns out, her involvement in the iconic 1994 film, which gifted us the memorable line about a box of chocolates, wasn’t as a mere background extra. E.A., whose full name is Elizabeth Anne Hanks, was the frowning child on the school bus who denied young Forrest a seat. That was her—the quintessential mean girl on wheels. She chuckled about it, describing it as “my career highlight to date, ‘mean girl on bus.’” Not exactly Oscar material, but screen time is screen time.

Even a cursory glance at Alex Garland's "Ex Machina" reveals a thematic tension between free will and determinism. In the film, the existence of a sentient robot named Ava (Alicia Vikander) is posed as an inevitability, where she needs to undergo a Turing test that will determine whether she has developed a consciousness. The men of science who gauge Ava's humanity (or lack thereof) view an A.I. singularity as inevitable or deterministic.
Specifically, the fact that a robot like Ava can express emotions and mimic human behavior is seen as an inevitability -- a question of "when," not "if." This outlook sidelines every ethical dilemma that comes with the creation of artificial intelligence and whether humans have the right to play god while toying with sentience. Garland uses this foundation to weave a profound film about technology, evolution, and the fraught relationship between man and his creation.

Chet Hanks is taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane with his latest music video, featuring none other than his famous father, Tom Hanks. The video for “You Better Run,” the second single from his country music duo Something Out West with Drew Arthur, pays homage to the 1994 classic Forrest Gump, a role that earned Tom his second Academy Award.
Chet has recently been romantically linked with troubled reality TV star Kim Zolciak.
The video opens with Hanks sitting on a familiar-looking bus stop bench, dressed in a light-colored suit reminiscent of the one his father wore as Forrest Gump. In a nod to the film’s most iconic moment, he later recreates the legendary “Run, Forrest, run!” scene. The references don’t stop there. Hanks and Arthur are seen aboard a boat called “Jenny,” a tribute to Forrest’s childhood friend and love interest, played by Robin Wright.

Peter Forrest — who, as P. Fluid, was lead singer and frontman of the pioneering Black rock band 24/7 Spyz — has died at the age of 64. On Jan. 14th, Forrest’s body was found badly beaten in the back of an abandoned ambulette bus in the Bronx. Forrest, who worked for the ambulette company as a driver, reportedly suffered “trauma around the body.” The New York Police Department confirmed the death to Rolling Stone, adding that the incident “is now being investigated as a homicide.”

Jackie Farry, who worked in radio promotion at Atlantic and Epic Records before becoming a tour manager for music acts like Elliott Smith, The Lemonheads and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, died Sunday of complications from a lung disease. She was 58.
Farry’s career in the music industry began at Homestead Records, where she was a receptionist as the fledgling New York label was building a rep for signing influential indie rock bands in the 1980s. Farry quickly climbed the ranks in the business, making impactful contributions at Atlantic Records, where she worked from 1988 to 1989, and Epic Records, from 1991 to 1992, in radio promotion, specifically in the metal realm.
Her passion for music and the magnetic pull she seemed to have on everyone around her led to her becoming Frances Bean Cobain’s nanny from birth to toddlerhood — a role she cherished deeply. Her adventure in the music world didn’t stop there.

The Star Wars franchise has never held back when it comes to splashing cash to make sure their movies and TV shows look spectacular. That has been proven by the recent revelation that Andor is now one of the most expensive projects ever for the space opera franchise. Across its two series, the show has a budget of $645 million, with $290.9 million coming from the upcoming Season 2.
This gives the new season a similar per-episode budget to Netflix’s Stranger Things and Wednesday, but moreover, it means that Andor’s return costs more than the $275 million budget of The Rise of Skywalker. While Andor is one of the franchise’s most impressive projects, and delivered a near-perfect story in Season 1, whether it is quite worth the price for Disney and Lucasfilm is questionable.
Naturally, this budget was not entirely planned. Production on Season 2 began in 2022, but thanks to the SAG_AFTRA strike,...

Though Michael Conner Humphreys is best known for playing young Forrest in Robert Zemeckis’s 1994 film Forrest Gump, he went on to have an interesting career after the production. While Tom Hanks is the film’s main star, portraying the adult Forrest Gump as he meets real-life figures and innocently encounters American history in real-time, Humphreys's performance sets the tone at the beginning of the film. The Oscar-winning movie is famous for its stellar cast and iconic quotes from Forrest, both young and old.
When he was eight years old, Humphreys attended a casting call that was reportedly for "a young Tom Hanks with light eyes and a quirky disposition." Due to his southern accent and fitting appearance, Humphreys was chosen to play the younger version of Forrest. Humphreys and Hanks worked closely to make sure the child and adult characters resembled each other, with Hanks drawing on Humphreys' real...

Run, Forrest, Run! Like seriously…runnnnnn!!!! Probably the last person you’d imagine being invoked in The Creep Tapes is Forrest Gump. Yet here he is, being praised by the still-unnamed killer of the cult-fave horror movies and Shudder’s top-notch sequel series. Turns out, the psychopath with a penchant for hiring unsuspecting videographers to film him in various scenarios before disposing of them in myriad gruesome ways is also a big fan of Tom Hanks‘ Southern simpleton. Shudder “He’s pure, he’s funny, he’s thoughtful…he’s historically important,” raves the seemingly Average Joe played so perfectly by Mark Duplass (The Morning Show) in TV Insider’s exclusive clip from this week’s season finale, fittingly airing on Friday the 13th. Going on to appreciate the special love between Forrest and his mother while filming himself on a country drive, his revelry is so rudely interrupted by...

The real meaning behind Forrest Gumps final scene has been debated since the movies release in 1994 for several reasons. As the movie that helped define Tom Hanks career and won him an Academy Award, Forrest Gump has earned its spot as one of the most popular comedy-drama movies with its endearing characters and clever use of real-life historical figures edited alongside Forrest Gump to paint a picture of modern America. However, Robert Zemeckis Forrest Gump ends on a somewhat ambiguous note and the films audience is left with quite a few questions.
At the end of Forrest Gump, Forrest Gump waits for the school bus with his son at the side of the road. As the bus comes closer, Forrest notices a Curious George book in his sons backpack and examines it as Forrest Jr. states Grandma used to read it to you. Forrest sends his son onto the school bus,...

Robert Zemeckis has one of the most eclectic filmographies in history under his belt. From the ever-prevalent and mainstream Back to the Future series to his infamous motion capture version of A Christmas Carol, Zemeckis' body of work has always been concerned with emerging technology. The director seemingly has a fascination with integrating or establishing cutting-edge developments in filmmaking.
Zemeckis' latest venture into this territory is Here, which employs the use of a de-aging artificial intelligence technology on actors called Metaphysic Live that works in real-time as opposed to post-production. However, this is not Here's only technological gimmick. The movie also takes place entirely within one room and from one camera angle. Despite these cinematic innovations, Here has not been very well-received by critics or audiences. One major reason being cited for the backlash is the film's ending. So, how does Here end, and is it as bad as everyone says?...

Here sees Tom Hanks reunite with director Robert Zemeckis, and the movie includes a sly reference to one of their earlier collaborations. The 2024 drama marks the fifth time that Hanks and Zemeckis have worked together on a movie, as the partnership began in 1994 with Forrest Gump. The Oscar-winning drama and box office hit enticed the duo to work together over the years, although the frequency of their pairing has picked up in recent years. Despite these previous works, Here is the biggest Forrest Gump reunion film to date with Robin Wright, Eric Roth, and others also involved.
The longevity of Hanks and Zemeckis' partnership, and their individual careers, created some unique possibilities with a story like Here. Since the movie's setting spans millions of years of history, the ever-changing time periods meant a variety of pop culture and historical references. Director Robert Zemeckis is used to conjuring the impossible.
In “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” he had flesh-and-blood actors like Bob Hoskins convincingly interact with animated characters; with “Forrest Gump” he had the title character (essayed by Tom Hanks) meet famous historical figures; “What Lies Beneath” imagined what would happen if Alfred Hitchcock had access to cutting-edge visual effects. He made three entire movies exclusively using performance capture technology. And on and on and on.
His latest film “Here,” which is now playing in theaters, offered a different sort of challenge – the entire movie is told from a fixed vantagepoint, through various eras. The camera never moves. It begins in prehistoric times, eventually settling into a handful of suburban living rooms throughout the years. The one we chiefly focus on is the home of Hanks and Robin Wright, both “Forrest Gump” alums, who begin in the 1960s and travel through modern day.

Tom Hanks reflects on when he thought he might be getting fired from Forrest Gump. Hanks' performance as the titular character was critically acclaimed and won him his second Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Forrest Gump also marked the first of many Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis collaborations, with the actor and director also working together on Cast Away, The Polar Express, Disney's live-action remake of Pinocchio, and Here, the last of which saw them reuniting with Robin Wright.
While speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hanks recalls why he thought Zemeckis was firing him during the second day of shooting Forrest Gump. He discusses how he still struggles with impostor syndrome on the second day of filming a new movie, especially when knowing that actors are sometimes recast very early in the production process. Robin Wright is not here for any takes about Jenny in “Forrest Gump” being an anti-feminist character — or Voldemort, for that matter. In a joint interview with Tom Hanks for the New York Times, she shot down criticism of the character she played in the Academy Award-winning 1994 film.
In “Forrest Gump,” Wright’s character Jenny Curran is the object of the title character’s affection since childhood. She is abused by her father as a child, and leaves their small town as soon as she can, pursuing a hippie dream in search of a better life. She does not find one, and she suffers from drug addiction and turns to sex work to survive. Eventually, she reunites with Forrest, and he professes his love to her and proposes to her. Robin Wright, who played Jenny in the classic drama Forrest Gump, is over being labeled as the film's true villain. Released 30 years ago, the Robert Zemeckis film stars Tom Hanks as the titular character and Wright as his platonic (and occasionally romantic-ish) counterpart, Jenny.
Since the films release, audiences have considered Jenny something of an anti-feminist figure who only brought trouble to Forrests exciting life. In the film, Forrest is an extraordinary man who overcomes all obstacles presented by his disability, which is never clearly defined. Since he was a boy, Forrest has been in love with Jenny, and the two reunite at various stages of his eventful life. But Forrest and Jenny never have an actual long-term relationship at least not until Jenny catches an incurable virus, and she introduces Forrest to his son. Forrest marries Jenny, and when she dies, he becomes a single parent to their son.

Robin Wright joined her “Forrest Gump” co-star Tom Hanks for a recent interview with The New York Times while promoting their latest collaboration, Robert Zemeckis’ “Here,” and she pushed back against claims that her “Gump” character, Jenny Curran, is “kind of an anti-feminist role.” Jenny is the love of Forrest’s life in the movie, but her freewheeling lifestyle keeps him at a distance. She embraces social liberation, does drugs and more. Then she dies of an AIDS-related illness, which some viewers have claimed is anti-feminist punishment for her lifestyle.
“There are some different takes on Jenny, Robin’s character, including that she was punished for her choices — which were reflective of the choices of many young women in a generation that had social and economic liberty for the first time,” interviewer Melena Ryzik asked Wright. “She chooses a freewheeling life, and she dies. Forrest Gump's Jenny is one of the most iconic characters of her era. The way her name is said by the titular character has become one of the most memorable parts of the movie. Jenny is played by Robin Wright in the film, who later marries Tom Hanks' Forrest after they fall in love in adulthood. In the film, Jenny and Forrest have a child together, but Jenny tragically dies at the age of 32.
Both Jenny and Forrest also have younger counterparts in the film, which shows the pair when they are growing up. Young Forrest is played by Michael Conner Humphreys, who did very little acting after appearing in Forrest Gump. Young Jenny, on the other hand, was played by Hanna Hall. Hall's role in Forrest Gump and later career is worth exploring in more detail.

Forrest Gump's son, played by Haley Joel Osment, may not be the biological son of Tom Hanks' titular character, according to one fan theory. While Forrest experiences some of the biggest parts of American history throughout his journey, the thing that matters most to him is his relationship with Jenny. In the end, Jenny finds her way back to Forrest, and the two rendezvous before separating yet again. It's only when she returns a second time, a child in tow, that Forrest discovers he has a son.
Forrest Gump's sweet relationship with Forrest Jr. is one of the film's most poignant moments since it also accompanies Jenny's passing. However, that bittersweet ending for Forrest is ruined for some by the theory that Forrest Jr. might not be his. Similar to other Forrest Gump fan theories, there's plenty of evidence behind this one, that makes it certainly a viable option for the storytelling.
