Jonathan Hickman has written all of the four major Marvel Comics franchises: the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, and now his ongoing "Ultimate Spider-Man."
Hickman's "Avengers"/"New Avengers"/"Secret Wars" epic is the best long running Marvel story since Chris Claremont's 16-year "X-Men" run. In another world, Hickman's own work with the X-Men could've been as defining as Claremont's... but that's not the world we have. Hickman's "X-Men" earns the comparison to Claremont's in how abruptly it ends; Claremont's titanic run concluded not with a grand finale but when he left due to disputes with his editor, Bob Harras, in 1991.
Hickman put his spin on the mutants in 2019 with the dual miniseries "House of X" (drawn by Pepe Larraz) and "Powers of X" (drawn by R.B. Silva). Marginalized in the comics due to their absence from the Marvel Cinematic Universe,...

After the runaway success of their Thundercats revival, Dynamite Entertainment is set to breathe new life into the Silverhawks. Created a year after Thundercats and designed to be a companion show, Silverhawks never quite achieved the same level of success, but still became a cult property. The Silverhawks'cartoon, like many others of its era, was accompanied by a wave of merchandise, including action figures, clothing, as well as a comic book series from Marvel.
Now, nearly 40 years after it premiered, Silverhawks will be returning to comics courtesy of Dynamite Entertainment, as part of their larger deal with Warner Brothers/Discovery. Dynamite has paired each book with a top-tier creative team, and Silverhawks will be no different. Ed Brisson, known for his work on Marvel titles such as Predator and Alpha Flight, will be joined by artist Georgoe Kambadais for Silverhawks. 2024 has been an intense year for the world of comic books. The X-Men saved the universe, Amanda Waller took over the world for a little while, and the Energon Universe continued to be a must-read storyline. Then there are the plethora of comic books like Space Ghost by David Pepose, Thundercats by Declan Shalvey, and The Displaced by Ed Brisson that are vastly underrated.
The high standard of comics this year made it difficult to rank the best comic books of the year. Instead, these are the Top 15 comic books of 2024 in no particular order.
Ultimate Spider-ManWriter: Tom KingArtists: Marco Checchetto, David Messina
There’s a lot to praise about Jonathan Hickman’s Ultimate Spider-Man, but the relationship that Peter Parker has with his family sticks out more than anything because it helps shape him as a hero.
Peter Parker isn’t just Spider-Man. He’s a husband and a father.

Sunspot and Cannonball were set to star in their own X-Men book, but it was canceled, revealing a harsh reality of mainstream comics. Jonathan Hickman teased a series with Roberto and Sam going on space adventures, but it wasn't a top priority for Marvel. Despite the canceled book, Sunspot still played a significant role in the Krakoan era, showing his and Cannonball's stories will continue.

Sunspot has enjoyed a higher profile thanks to his role in X-Men '97, and he still got his moment in the sun during the X-Men's Krakoan era. Brace yourselves - Nightmare Hunter is the deadliest Predator yet, leaving even veteran heroes like Theta stunned in fear. Those who thought they could challenge Nightmare Hunter paid the ultimate price in a brutal and bloody showdown. Despite a faint glimmer of hope, the grim reality is that Nightmare Hunter will likely emerge unfazed, ready to claim more victims.
Warning: Contains Spoilers for Predator: The Last Hunt #3! Predator has just welcomed another Super-Yautja to the franchise with the viciously deadly Nightmare Hunter, and the series’ most recent installment makes it clear that this Predator lives up to their namesake. Super-Yautja are - as their moniker implies - bigger, stronger, and overall deadlier than the regular hunters, so it’s no surprise that the protagonists of the latest Predator comic have their hands full with one. But even though it should be expected, actually seeing Predator's Nightmare Hunter in action is still truly shocking.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Dutch may have a grim final fate in the current Predator canon, as it's all-too possible that he's been unceremoniously killed off-screen. John Schaefer, Dutch's brother, may finally find his missing brother captured by the Predators, but even he knows it's more likely that Dutch is dead. However, the stage is set for an epic conclusion to Dutch's storyline, but only if Predator does reveal how he died (if he's even dead at all).

The legendary action movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger famously played Dutch Schaefer in the 1987 film Predator, and while his character survived, he was never seen again in any of the subsequent films or tie-in comics. The lore of the Predator franchise is expanding thanks to Marvel's new comics, redefining what fans already knew from the first film. Predators are not random trophy hunters, but officially drawn to planets with war or unrest on a global scale. This makes the first Predator film (and Prey) overt political commentary, showcasing humanity's lust for war attracting cosmic punishment.
At long last, the lore of the Predator franchise is being explored and explained, answering some of the fandom's most nagging questions. Not only are the new canon comic books revealing more about the seemingly two-dimensional species, but this information is actually redefining what fans already knew–stretching all the way back to the very first film.

Each series has increased the threat level, and the upcoming Predator: The Last Hunt will likely be no exception, with the introduction of a new "Super Predator." Theta committed herself to hunting that particular Predator (who was identifiable by its one severed tusk), but after she succeeded in killing it, Theta continued to hunt Predators across the cosmos. Not only did Theta gain even more experience killing Predators by actively slaughtering them, but she...

Warning: Spoilers for Batman Incorporated #10 ahead!Bruce Wayne's original mission for Batman Incorporated ensured that there would never be a safe haven for global criminals, but the Joker's cruelest joke has turned the entire Batman Incorporated organization into his ultimate punchline. Batman's global dream has been perverted into nothing more than vigilantes in bat costumes fighting terrorists in clown costumes — and, by doing so, the Joker has finally triumphed over Batman's ideology.
Batman Incorporated began as a way for Bruce Wayne to acknowledge the effect of others in his life, as well as a way for him to give back to the world while Dick Grayson held the mantle as Batman. By recruiting, training, and supplying individual Bat-themed vigilantes across the world, Batman had hoped that his agents and methods would be able to deter crime internationally, especially when (and where) he couldn't personally be involved. When Batman's fortune and resources were destroyed,...

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Predator vs Wolverine Wolverine is about to face off against a Predator in a Marvel Comics/20th Century Studios crossover unlike any other with Predator vs Wolverine! While very little details have been released about the upcoming comic, the most important aspect of what fans are so excited to see is in the title itself, leaving only a few important questions: who will win? And, if it’s the Predator, how will they actually be able to defeat Wolverine?
The reason the matchup in Predator vs Wolverine is going to be so fun is that Wolverine and Predator actually share a number of key similarities. Both are cunning warriors, both are expert hunters, and they each utilize claws protruding from their fists as their main weapon of choice. It is a toss-up as to who will win, to be sure, but if the Predator comes out on top,...

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Predator Vol. 2 #4 Predators are usually the space-faring lifeforms responsible for dispatching the deadliest strike forces in all the cosmos, but this time, a human is taking the reins in that respect, as Predator’s ultimate foe, Theta, is officially creating the perfect Yautja-killing army.
Theta is the greatest Predator-killer in the entire franchise, as her kill count is higher than any other movie hero combined. Her story began in the first volume of the current Predator comic book series, with a Yautja massacring her entire off-world colony (including her mom and dad) right in front of her. From that moment on, Theta committed herself to hunting down this specific Predator and avenging her fallen family - and she killed every Predator that got in her way. Eventually, Theta succeeded, but her bloodlust wasn’t satiated, and she continued tracking and killing Predators wherever she found them.

The Predator species are well known for traveling the cosmos, seeking out the deadliest prey, and then hunting them to prove that they’re - in fact - the deadliest life forms in the galaxy. Fans have seen Predators take on humans many times, most notably in the film franchise, and every time the Predators manage to slaughter a great number of humans before finally being bested, usually by the last survivor of their hunt. While the Predators’ impressive kill/death ratio has always been attributed to their more advanced tech,...
