Why ‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’ on NBC Will Not Return for Season 2
Image
Say goodbye to NBC’s suburban garden club, as Grosse Pointe Garden Society has been called off after the first season came to an end on May 16, 2025. The network announced the cancellation six weeks after it revealed its show lineup for 2025-26. At the time, this murder mystery series was the only one whose fate was left undecided.

Deadline reported that due to its soft linear performance, Grosse Pointe Garden Society‘s return to the broadcast network was pretty much out of the question. So, NBCUniversal executives were considering the possibility of moving the show to NBCUniversal’s streaming service, Peacock, if it were to show signs of building an audience there.

Although the show was creatively satisfying and had a smaller budget than a Peacock original, its move to the streamer would need financial backing, and without a solid response from the audience, continuing it would not be a good decision.

Why NBC Canceled Grosse Pointe Garden Society
Image
Fans of NBC drama "Grosse Pointe Garden Society" were dismayed to learn that the series had been cancelled in 2025 after just one season — especially since the season finale ended on a cliffhanger that will seemingly never be resolved. The history of TV is littered with shows that didn't last beyond their debut season, and not all of them are bad. Some great sci-fi series were axed after just one season, and some of the best TV shows you'll ever see were similarly cancelled after one season. Fans of "Grosse Pointe Garden Society" would certainly argue the show belongs in that latter category, and the critical response to the NBC drama certainly suggested it was one of the better series to end so quickly. So, why did the network bury this seemingly successful murder mystery show?

Back in July 2024, "Grosse Pointe Garden Society" received a series order from NBC, and things were looking promising.

‘Dr. Death’ Points a Damning Finger at the U.S. Medical System [Murder Made Fiction Podcast]
Joshua Jackson
When preparing her unprecedented case against disgraced surgeon Christopher Duntsch (Joshua Jackson), Assistant District Attorney Michelle Shughart (AnnaSophia Robb) had to make a difficult choice: either prosecute the man himself or take on the system that fostered his destruction.

Episodes 7 and 8 wrap up the story of Christopher Duntsch with a damning indictment of the healthcare system. Who is to blame for this dangerous surgeon’s botched operations, the incompetent doctor himself or the mentors and administrators who kept passing him along?

In the latest episode of Bloody FM’s Murder Made Fiction, Jenn and Joe wrap up season one of Dr. Death with emotional testimony and an important question: by focusing solely on prosecuting Duntsch are we perpetuating the circumstances that helped him thrive? The season ends on an ominous note, promising that if changes aren’t made to the larger system, this devastating outcome will happen again.

And if...

The Fate of Twisty Murder-Mystery Show 'Grosse Pointe Garden Society' Has Been Decided
Image
The garden party is officially over. NBC has finally clipped the last stem of Grosse Pointe Garden Society after the freshman murder-mystery drama set in a leafy Michigan suburb never quite found its footing. Its cancellation brings NBC’s 2025–26 bloodbath of axed scripted content to six, with Grosse Pointe Garden Society joining Suits: LA, The Irrational, Found, Night Court, and Lopez vs. Lopezin the dead show garden. It’s a clear indication that the network is doing some aggressive pruning ahead of the next season.

Created byGood Girls masterminds Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs, Grosse Pointe Garden Societystarted with great promise, with what seemed like a blend of Desperate Housewives-style suburban drama and mystery intrigue. Unfortunately, it appears the petals wilted before the show could find solid ground. Despite a solid cast and a decent storyline, the ratings didn’t quite blossom as NBC had hoped.

In hindsight, it...

‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’ Canceled After One Season At NBC, No Future On Streaming At Peacock
Image
Despite moving the show to Friday nights in the hopes of generating a few more eyeballs in an earlier time, NBC has decided against a second season of freshman drama “Grosse Pointe Garden Society.”

The news isn’t surprising as the series failed to gain traction on its new night, particularly as it was the only series left over from the 2024-2025 season to have its fate decided by the time the network unveiled its 2025-2026 primetime schedule.

According to Deadline, which first reported the cancellation news, executives had been exploring whether to move the heavily serialized series to Peacock in the hopes of it continuing but ultimately decided against it after going over the financials, citing data showing it would be “hard for the series to grow its audience” on the streaming service, the Friday move did lead to increased viewership on Peacock as potential viewers were able to...

Image
The NBC series Grosse Pointe Garden Society has been canceled after just one season.

The first, and now only, season finished airing on May 16 and there’s a reason why NBC waited a bit before confirming that the show would not return.

Grosse Pointe Garden Society did not earn a spot on NBC’s Fall 2025 schedule, but there was a hope that Peacock would pick up the show to continue it as a streaming series. Unfortunately, that did not happen.

Keep reading to find out more…

Deadline reports that “it was ultimately decided that it would be hard for the series to grow its audience on Peacock, leading to the cancellation.”

Melissa Fumero, Aja Naomi King, Ben Rappaport, and AnnaSophia Robb starred in the mystery series, which ended with a big cliffhanger at the end of season one.

‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’ Canceled by NBC After One Season
Image
Grosse Point Garden Society has been canceled by NBC after one season.

The cancellation comes after the drama series, whose fate had been left undecided at the time the the bulk of NBC’s 2025-26 lineup was unveiled in May, was previously being considered for a move to Peacock. However, the network ultimately opted not to move forward with that plan.

A potential move to the NBCUniversal-owned Peacock was hinted at by showrunners Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs, who told TheWrap they knew that “Grosse Pointe” was performing well on streaming. Last year, NBC previously moved “Law & Order: Organized Crime” to Peacock after letting it go from its schedule.

“We know we have a lot of support at the network and people love it creatively, so we’re just hopeful they’ll find a way to bring us back. It might not be a traditional way, but we’ll see,...

‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’ Canceled at NBC After a Single Season
Image
NBC is disbanding the Grosse Pointe Garden Society.

The network has canceled the first-year series, which comes from in-house studio Universal Television and creators Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs (Good Girls). The decision comes five weeks after the show aired its first season — now series — finale.

The delayed decision was due in part to NBCUniversal exploring a potential move to Peacock for the series. A deal didn’t come together, however, leading to the end for Grosse Pointe Garden Society.

The series stars AnnaSophia Robb, Melissa Fumero, Ben Rappaport and Aja Naomi King as four members of a garden club in the titular Detroit suburb whose lives become intertwined by scandal and a shared secret — a murder none of them wants to discuss. Matthew Davis, Alexander Hodge, Nancy Travis and Felix Wolfe also star.

Grosse Pointe Garden Society premiered in February, paired with Suits LA on NBC’s post-football Sunday night schedule.

‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’ Canceled After One Season at NBC

“Grosse Pointe Garden Society” has been canceled at NBC after just one season, Variety has learned.

Per the official logline, the show is said to follow “four members of a suburban garden club who find their lives intertwined by scandal, mischief and a shared secret – a murder no one wants to talk about. As dark truths begin to rot their lives under the surface, they struggle to remain as perfect as the flowers blooming in their garden above.”

The cast includes “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” alum Melissa Fumero as well as Aja Naomi King, Ben Rappaport, AnnaSophia Robb, Matthew Davis, Alexander Hodge, Nancy Travis, and Felix Wolfe. Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs created the series and served as co-showrunners and executive producers. Casey Kyber also executive produced. Universal Television was the studio.

The cancellation comes as little surprise, as the show opened to a muted response and low ratings when it premiered in February at the broadcaster.

‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’ Canceled By NBC After One Season, Won’t Move To Peacock

Exclusive: NBC’s suburban garden club is shutting down as the network has opted not to renew freshman drama Grosse Pointe Garden Society for a second season.

The news comes six weeks after NBC unveiled the bulk of its 2025-26 lineup, with Grosse Pointe Garden Society, from the Good Girls duo of Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs, as the only 2024-25 series whose fate was left undecided. Don Johnson and Aaron Pierre in Rebel Ridge (2024)
Rebel Ridge director Jeremy Saulnier is putting together his next movie, and Deadline reports that Cory Michael Smith is set to star. The new film is titled October, but not much is known about the project, with sources describing it as a fugitive thriller set during Halloween.

How ‘Rebel Ridge’ became the Emmy frontrunner for Best TV Movie
Image
Is Rebel Ridge about to follow in the Emmy-winning footsteps of Quiz Lady, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, and ... Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers?

The Netflix telefilm has held the No. 1 spot in Gold Derby's Best TV Movie odds all season long, despite increasingly fierce competition from the likes of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Out of My Mind, Mountainhead, Am I Ok?, and The Gorge. Why? Perhaps Rebel Ridge is still coasting off its awards juice from earlier in the season, where it claimed prizes at the Critics Choice Awards (Best TV Movie) and Image Awards (Best Actor for Aaron Pierre), and scored nominations from the Producers Guild and Writers Guild, among others.

The action thriller stars Pierre as Terry Richmond, a former Marine who has a run-in with a small town's corrupt and racist police force, including Don Johnson's Chief Sandy Burnne. The cast is rounded out by AnnaSophia Robb,...

Rebel Ridge Director Teams With A24 For New Crime Drama Trigger Point
Image
After a seven-way bidding war, A24 has landed the crime drama Trigger Point. The upcoming series will be directed and executive produced by Jeremy Saulnier, who wowed audiences last year with his 2024 action thriller Rebel Ridge.

According to Deadline, plot details are being kept under wraps for Trigger Point, although sources state that the project will be a crime drama series. The spec script was written by Harrison Query, whose credits include the upcoming Paramount+ miniseries Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey and the action comedy Heads of State starring John Cena and Idris Elba. Trigger Point reportedly cost A24 around $500,000, making this one of this year's biggest TV spec sales so far. ‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’ Not Canceled Yet, NBC Ponders Move to Peacock

While the chances for “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” to score a Season 2 renewal from NBC aren’t looking great, there’s possibility the freshman drama series could move to Peacock — a potential fate that is “still being discussed” according to one NBC scheduling exec.

The drama series from Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs was not included in NBC’s 2025-26 schedule, which revealed Season 2 renewals for “Brilliant Minds” and “The Hunting Party” alongside all three “Chicago” series, “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Svu.”

Bader noted a potential move to Peacock was discussed for every show that did not make the cut for NBC’s lineup next season. The impending move of the NBA to Tuesdays nights prompted a flurry of cancellations Friday, including dramas “Suits LA,” “Found” and “The Irrational,” and comedy series “Night Court” and “Lopez vs Lopez.”

A potential move to the NBCUniversal-owned Peacock was...

Which Bubble Show Would You Save From Cancellation?
Image
We’re all anxious this time of year as we await news about our favorite bubble shows.

ABC has renewed most of its primetime slate, while NBC has only renewed two comedies. CBS crushed viewers on Friday when it canceled The Equalizer, which has us concerned about the state of television.

Fox and The CW are somewhere in between, making decisions on a few shows, while others are in limbo.

(Rafy/NBC)

Let’s analyze what we’re working with, and please vote and comment on which bubble shows you’d like to see again.

Brilliant Minds (NBC)

NBC shows have the most to lose since the network is losing valuable scripted television time to NBA basketball on Tuesday nights, and adding Sunday nights to that schedule during mid-season.

The network didn’t consider any new drama pilots for the fall since its slate is already crowded.

Clueless Fashion Revival: How Cher Horowitz’s Style Still Rules the Red Carpet
Image
Released in 1995, Clueless marked a major fashion reset. It moved away from the grunge style inspired by Nirvana and introduced a polished, preppy aesthetic. Cher Horowitz’s wardrobe helped reintroduce matching co-ord sets, slip dresses, and tartan skirts, effectively rewriting American youth fashion.

In addition to coining the immortalized expressions “as if!” and “whatever!”, the 1995 American coming-of-age romantic comedy film showed another side to ’90s fashion that people who aren’t that into grunge and hip-hop style instantly warmed up to.

The 1995 film Clueless marked a pivotal shift in fashion trends, steering away from the grunge aesthetic of baggy jeans and flannel shirts.

As noted by Varsity, “Clueless redefined the look of the 90s, renewing the plaid shirt into a plaid skirt”. This transformation popularized preppy,...

Earlier this week, Isa Briones and AnnaSophia Robb joined the cast of All Nighter- the new play written by Natalie Margolin and directed by Jaki Bradley.
