Last year, we learned that the Netflix streaming service had gotten a new film chief in Dan Lin – and one of the first projects Lin greenlit at the streamer is an adaptation of author Ruth Ware’s bestselling 2016 thriller novel The Woman in Cabin 10, which had Keira Knightley attached to star in it as the titular woman. Now, Netflix has announced that the film is set to have its streaming premiere on October 10th – and to start building the hype, they have unveiled a batch of first look images, which can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Simon Stone, who previously directed The Dig for Netflix, directed this film from a screenplay by Snake Eyes writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse (with Stone handling script revisions himself). A new trailer for It: Welcome to Derry has been released following a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con yesterday evening, and it teases a sinister, demonic force in the small town, which may be there in addition to Pennywise.
Once again, we see very little of Bill Skarsgård's killer clown, an indication perhaps that his screentime will be fairly limited. That or HBO Max is simply looking to keep the iconic monster and his role in this story under wraps (ensuring there are plenty of surprises for horror fans).
It's also been confirmed that It: Welcome to Derry will premiere this October, meaning we should return to Derry in time for Halloween.
The series, from Warner Bros. Television and developed for television by filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman), will debut on HBO and also be available to stream on Max. Muschietti will direct...

Disney's Lilo and Stitch passed $400 million worldwide after playing in theaters for less than a week, so a $1 billion global haul always seemed highly likely, and the Mouse House's latest live-action remake has now officially passed this major box office milestone.
The family-friendly adventure grossed $416.1 million in North America and $584.8 million internationally for a global tally of $1.001 billion.
This makes Lilo and Stitch the first Hollywood movie released this year to pass $1B - Chinese animated phenomenon Ne Zha 2 actually managed to pass $2 billion worldwide.
Not too surprisingly, a sequel to Lilo and Stitch has already been announced.
"We knew there was a lot of love for Lilo & Stitch with audiences around the world, yet we never take that for granted, and we’re proud of how this new film has connected with people,” Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman said. “I’m thankful to our filmmakers, our cast and all...

Greta Gerwig’s upcoming take on Cs Lewis’ Narnia books could be facing a production delay of several months according to a new report.
Dan Lin and any other film executives attached to Greta Gerwig’s planned Narnia films must be hoping that things soon quiten down with regards to the film’s production because ever since the project was first announced, it’s never been too far from the headlines.
Not too long after signing up for the project, Gerwig’s huge sucess with 2023’s Barbie thrust Netflix’s take on the Narnia films into the spotlight and it’s remained there ever since. From Gerwig publicly admitting that she was having “nightmares” about the project to the director’s rather public display of brinkmanship that seemingly forced Netflix into giving the first planned film a wide IMAX release, it’s been quite the run-in to production.

This might be 2025 least surprising news story. As we first reported on Toonado.com, Disney has confirmed that it's moving forward with Lilo & Stitch 2. The studio has not revealed whether Dean Fleischer Camp will return to direct, though we'd bet on Chris Sanders and Maia Kealoha returning as the titular duo.
Lilo & Stitch was a live-action remake of the 2002 animated movie originally developed for Disney+.
Despite any shortcomings—and a surprisingly divisive new ending—Lilo & Stitch has so far grossed $923 million at the worldwide box office. It should near, or eventually pass, $1 billion worldwide and has been a massive hit for the House of Mouse.
With Thunderbolts* and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning underperforming in May, it was down to Lilo & Stitch to dominate theaters last month.
Talking to Variety about bringing Sanders back as Experiment 626, Camp said, "That was one of the first conversations. I made sure...

To commemorate “626 Day” — a global celebration of the mischievous yet beloved Stitch from Lilo & Stitch — Walt Disney Studios announced on Thursday that Lilo & Stitch 2 is now officially in development.
The sequel to the live-action reimagining of the 2002 animated classic was announced via a playful video featuring Stitch (a.k.a. Experiment 626) wreaking havoc across the Walt Disney Studios lot.
The live-action Lilo & Stitch — which was directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo and Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani — not only exceeded industry expectations but also set a new benchmark as the highest-grossing 4-day Memorial Day weekend opening in U.S. history.
Since its debut, the film has grossed approximately $923 million worldwide at the box office. The film received an “A” CinemaScore from the audience.

Walt Disney Pictures is officially moving ahead on a sequel to the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch.
The announcement was made via social media Thursday, timed to June 26, aka 6-26. That number ties to Stitch as the wild blue-haired alien is known as Experiment 626 in the movie. (See what the studio did there?)
That a sequel is in the works was never in doubt. The movie has grossed over $923 million worldwide on a budget of about $100 million. Most movies with that kind of box office usually have more than double Lilo’s budget.
The movie has humble origins that are in keeping with a Stitch-like, gleeful and chaotic vibe: It was initially headed to Disney+ as an original movie for the platform before execs reconsidered its release and upgraded it to theatrical.

Disney's live-action Lilo and Stitch movie continues to pack in audiences worldwide, and is well on its way to becoming the year's first billion dollar release.
The family-friendly adventure claimed the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office for the third consecutive weekend with $32.5 million from 4,185 venues, and has now taken in a total of $335.8 million domestically and $772 million globally.
Unfortunately, things aren't looking quite as positive for Ballerina.
Lionsgate's first John Wick spin-off, starring Ana de Armas as a dancer-turned-assassin, debuted behind already modest expectations with $25 million from 3,409 North American theaters. The R-rated action flick took in another $26 million from 82 countries overseas for a global start of $51 million. Ballerina had a reported production budget of $90 million, which is significantly more than the first three John Wick films.
Despite decent reviews and an A- CinemaScore, Ballerina simply doesn't seem to have enticed much of the John Wick franchise's fanbase into theaters this weekend.

“I’ve been incredibly proud to spend the past eight years with Film4 and, more recently, Channel 4 Drama, and it’s very hard to say goodbye to all my wonderful colleagues and projects,” Madden wrote in a staff memo, according to Variety. “The independence, distinctiveness and mark of quality that Film4 and Channel 4 represent is a precious thing, and I’m confident it will continue to thrive long after my departure. After breaking the record for biggest Memorial Day opening weekend ever with a massive $183 million debut, Disney's Lilo and Stitch has now passed $400 million worldwide after playing in theaters for less than a week.
The Mouse House's latest live-action remake grossed an estimated $15.3M on Tuesday, bringing its domestic total to just under $200 million. The last update put the movie's global cume at $392.7 million, but it will easily have passed the $400 million milestone by now (we'll bring you the latest figures later today).
This is something Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts didn't manage to accomplish after almost a month in theaters. The antihero team-up movie has now taken in around $360 million worldwide, and analysts believe it may end up costing the studio as much as $100 million after P&a costs are taken into account.

Lilo & Stitch has been a massive box office hit, grossing over $360 million worldwide since opening over Memorial Day weekend. Reviews have been mostly positive (it currently sits at 69% on Rotten Tomatoes), with an "A" CinemaScore suggesting moviegoers enjoyed it more than critics.
While Lilo & Stitch closely adapts the 2002 animated movie of the same name, there are still some significant changes. To name just a few: Cobra Bubbles is split into two characters, Captain Gantu is completely Mia, and Jumba is positioned as the lead villain.
The ending is similarly overhauled. Rather than Nani and David becoming Lilo's main caregivers, the title character is fostered by David and his grandmother. Nani, meanwhile, goes to college and uses Jumba's portal gun to frequently visit Lilo and Stitch.
The main complaint is that Nani "abandons" Lilo to chase her own dreams. However, that simplistic view does somewhat miss the point...

The review embargo for Lilo & Stitch lifted earlier today, and as we first reported on Toonado.com, the glowing first social media reactions don't exactly match what critics are saying.
The consensus seems to be that the live-action remake plays it too safe, essentially serving as a shot-for-shot remake of the beloved 2002 animated classic it's based on. The review embargo for Lilo & Stitch lifted earlier today, and as we first reported on Toonado.com, the glowing first social media reactions don't exactly match what critics are saying.

It’s been a beat since Bill Skarsgård played Pennywise in both “It” films, but the “Nosferatu” and “The Crow” actor has wasted no time diving into the demonic terror of the Stephen King villain for prequel series “It: Welcome to Derry.”
The show is set in 1960s Derry, 27 years before Andy Muschietti’s 2017 “It: Chapter One” film. Filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti developed the drama series “Welcome to Derry” for television along with Jason Fuchs; Andy Muschietti is directing multiple episodes of the series.
The elusive logline reads: “Set in the world of Stephen King’s ‘It’ universe, ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ is based on King’s ‘It’ novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films ‘It’ and ‘It: Chapter Two.'”

The Home Box Office is about to get a lot creepier this fall. HBO has dropped the first teaser trailer for “It: Welcome to Derry,” the network’s highly-anticipated “It” prequel series. And it’s just as unsettling as everything else connected to this balloon-loving clown.
The teaser starts with a traumatized looking kid walking on the side of a highway. He’s soon picked up by a nice looking couple. “Now just tell us where home is and we’ll get you back to your parents safe and sound,” the man says.
“Anywhere but Derry,” the kid cryptically replies.
The teaser then cuts to Maine in 1962 where a new family has moved to Derry. It isn’t long before they realize there’s a darkness lurking underneath the cheery white picket fence exterior of this small town as there’s been a string of missing children. That’s when...

The upcoming series “Welcome to Derry” is taking us back to where it all began this coming Fall, with HBO unleashing the official teaser trailer for the It prequel series this morning.
The nine episode HBO series will serve as a prequel to Stephen King’s horror classic, and yes, Bill Skarsgård will be making his return as the iconic villain Pennywise the Clown.
“Welcome to Derry” is being positioned as a true continuation of Andy Muschietti’s It movies, telling a brand new story that’s been pulled from the pages of King’s classic novel.
Andy Muschietti will direct multiple episodes of the original series.
“Welcome to Derry” kicks off its story in 1962 in the time leading up to the events of It: Chapter One (2017). The series is based on Mike Hanlon’s interludes from King’s book, which document “catastrophic events” from Derry, Maine’s past. Muschietti...

HBO Max is floating its first official teaser trailer for Welcome to Derry.
The upcoming series is a prequel to the hit It films which adapted Stephen King’s horror masterpiece about a small town in Maine that’s cursed by the presence of a shapeshifting killer clown which returns to murder a slew of children every 27 years.
The trailer (below) introduces a new cast of young characters living in Derry in the 1960s.
The show was developed by It filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti along with Jason Fuchs who serves as co-showrunner with Brad Caleb Kane. Andy Muschietti directed four of the season’s nine episodes.
Bill Skarsgård has returned to play Pennywise the Dancing Clown, a villain that King fans agreed the actor embodied to perfection, after initially turning down the chance to continue the character. In an interview earlier this year, Skarsgård assured the TV version is “hardcore.

HBO Max has just unleashed the first trailer for It: Welcome to Derry (via FearHQ.com), but why does it feel so...familiar? While the It and It Chapter Two movies shifted the action from the 1950s and 1980s to the 1980s and 2010s, this story takes place in the 1960s and feels more in line with Stephen King's original novel.
However, with the spotlight once again put on a group of kids attempting to stop Pennywise the Clown's reign of terror, it's hard not to wonder what this TV series will bring to the table that It fans haven't already seen.
It looks suitably creepy and scary, though, and Bill Skarsgård's demented killer clown makes its presence felt in the closing moments of this teaser trailer. Pennywise doesn't look too different, as best as we can tell, but is mostly being kept hidden in shadow for now.

Lilo & Stitch was once going to be released on streaming as a "Disney+ Original," but when Bob Iger returned as Disney CEO, the decision was made for it to instead debut in theaters.
Based on early box office tracking—which suggests the movie will open over Memorial Day weekend between $110 million - $130 million, more than Snow White grossed domestically during its entire run—Iger made the right decision.
While the 2002 Lilo & Stitch movie spawned various small-screen follow-ups, all signs point to Disney having a potential new theatrical franchise on its hands. That should come as welcome news to the House of Mouse, particularly as many of the studio's previous live-action adaptations have faced their fair share of challenges.
With that in mind, you're probably wondering how Lilo & Stitch sets the stage for a potential follow-up. We're not getting into spoilers yet,...

HBO has just dropped a trailer teaser for It: Welcome to Derry (via FearHQ.com), confirming that the first full teaser will be released tomorrow. It doesn't reveal much, but we see a woman with a creepy smile watching a familiar red balloon outside, someone thrashing about in water, and a glimpse into the drains where Pennywise the Clown resides.
Pennywise himself is absent, though we'd bet on the killer clown being put front and centre in the full teaser. After all, it's not like this will be the first time we've seen...it...though we'd bet on him getting a slight redesign.

Disney's live-action remakes have been nothing if not hit-or-miss. Some are considered improvements over their animated predecessors, and others...not so much.
Lilo & Stitch's fanbase has only grown since it was released in 2002, with merchandise featuring the adorable Experiment 626 still dominating store shelves over two decades later. Disney's marketing campaign for the movie has been fantastic, but will that translate into a great movie?
Based on the first social media reactions we first shared on Toonado.com, the answer to that question is a resounding "yes."
As you can see below, Lilo & Stitch is being hailed as Disney's best live-action remake yet, and the verdict thus far is overwhelmingly positive. Original plans called for this to be a Disney+ Original, so it's safe to say current Disney CEO Bob Iger was right to pivot to a theatrical release.

That's evident from early box office tracking suggesting a debut of at...

Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson and Daisy Edgar-Jones are to star in the Netflix thriller Here Comes The Flood, directed by City Of God's Fernando Meirelles.
Netflix has announced quite a coup this morning, having attracted Denzel Washington to headline its upcoming heist thriller, Here Comes The Flood. Washington’s potent star power will be buttressed by two other impressive names, with Robert Pattinson and Daisy Edgar-Jones joining the project.
It’s said to be a ‘non-linear’ and ‘unconventional’ heist thriller about “a bank guard, a teller and a master thief in a deadly game of cons and double crosses” according to a plot description on The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the story.
The script is by Simon Kinberg, one-time steward of the X-Men series and potential overseer of a new Star Wars trilogy. In the director’s chair will be Fernando Meirelles, who made 2002’s City Of God, the...

Charlie Kaufman’s new film, Later The War, has stopped filming, it’s being reported, and crew are moving on. More here.
It’s been five years since Charlie Kaufman last directed a film, that being I’m Thinking Of Ending Things, a wildly surreal movie very much in the Charlie Kaufman tradition. That project took Netflix money to get made – the kind of money which is being offered far less liberally from the company in the period since Dan Lin took over stewardship of its film division.
Happily, back in February, it looked like our long wait to see another feature from Kaufman was almost over. WIth a promising ensemble of Eddie Redmayne, Tessa Thompson and Patsy Ferran in place, production was confirmed and we even got a nugget of plot to gnaw on. The original short story which the film will be based on is called Debby’s Dream...

Heavily-delayed Netflix action sequel The Old Guard 2 finally has a release date, and its first trailer as well.
Remember The Old Guard? It released during those pandemic years and, due in part to the fact that we were all watching more movies back then, garnered a hugely impressive 70 million views in its first month of release.
A follow-up was duly commissioned and shot back in mid-2022 before the film fell into a black hole of development hell, languishing there for several years before emerging today with a shiny new trailer.
Uma Thurman and Henry Golding join Charlize Theron and Kiki Layne for the sequel which will follow Theron and her band of immortal warriors in their ongoing quest to save the world. Victoria Mahoney has replaced Gina Prince-Bythewood in the director’s chair. A Netflix regime change and the Hollywood strikes further delayed things before a first round of reshoots was eventually ordered.

Earlier this week, Marvel Studios rebranded Thunderbolts* as *The New Avengers, a clever marketing stunt that should help increase interest heading into its second weekend in theaters.
The studio has reissued the movie's posters with the updated title and, in Los Angeles, gave Thunderbolts*'s massive billboard a new look. Alas, those of you hoping to perhaps see it in person will be disappointed as it's just been hijacked by Lilo & Stitch's Experiment 626!
As you can see below, Stitch has torn his way through the New Avengers, promoting the release of his movie later this month. Disney will likely pull out all the stops to promote Lilo & Stitch from here, especially as it's tracking to make upwards of $120 million over Memorial Day weekend.
Stitch will even take a bite out of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning's haul, despite it taking aim at a franchise best $80 million debut.

Walt Disney Studios has announced that tickets for the live-action Lilo & Stitch movie are now officially on sale, and we have the first full clip and a series of new posters featuring the rambunctious blue-furred alien known as "Experiment 626."
The original animated Lilo and Stitch focused on a young Hawaiian girl named Lilo Pelekai who forms a bond with an adorable extraterrestrial called Experiment 626, who was engineered to be a force of destruction. It wasn't considered one of the studio's bigger hits from a box office standpoint, but it remains a very popular entry in Disney's library, having spawned three direct-to-video sequels and a 2003 TV series.
The new movie's synopsis reads: "Lilo and Stitch tells the story of the bond formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who is engineered to be a force of destruction. Pursuing aliens, social workers, and the...
