As costume designer on “Judy,” the biopic about Judy Garland, Jany Temime kept one criteria in mind. “My question was, ‘What would Judy wear for that scene?’ That how I approached it,” says Temime, who also wanted to portray the difference between “the real Judy and the performer Judy.”

But instead of using replicas of the actor-singer’s iconic ensembles, Temime opted to create designs inspired by Garland’s wardrobe. To do so, Temime analyzed every look to understand why Garland chose it.

“She loved clothes. She has been working with the best designers in the world from the moment she entered Hollywood,’ explains Temime. “She was a woman with a huge fashion background. She’s a performer who wore the right thing to give the right impression.”

Filming in London allowed the costume designer to source Arabic, Indian and African prints to build the costumes and paint the picture of a strong woman.

Garland dominated movie screens with roles in The Wizard of Oz, A Star Is Born, Meet Me in St. Louis and the Easter Parade, but the star struggled with substance abuse and body image issues since her breakout at the age of 16.

The new film on her life, Judy, follows Garland from 1968 to 1969 as she performs a series of sold-out concerts in London while struggling to cope with depression and her addictions.

Contrary to the biopic “Judy,” the first encounter between Judy Garland and her future husband Mickey Deans was in no way a “meet-cute” at a party. In fact, their first encounter was decidedly unglamorous.

As the film tells it, Garland (played by Renee Zellwegger) was invited to a party by her daughter Liza Minnelli (Gemma-Leah Devereux), who, by that time, had already wowed audiences in a chip-off-the-old-block way with a Tony-winning performance in “Flora the Red Menace.” We see Garland and Deans (Finn Wittrock) lock eyes across the crowded room, his approach, flirtation, flying sparks, and so on.

But the truth is, there was no happenin’ Hollywood party, no instant chemistry, not even a magical moment when their eyes met. The truth: They first met when he delivered drugs to her hotel room in the middle of the night.

The first official trailer for the upcoming biopic Judy looks like it might pull an Academy Award for Renée Zellweger, who channels the The Wizard Of Oz star at the close of her career.

The glitz and glam of Judy Garland’s prolific career didn’t come easy. In the new trailer for “Judy,” Garland (portrayed by Renee Zellweger) fights through her fair share of emotional and financial turmoil.

“Judy” shows the world through Garland’s eyes 30 years after her star-making role in “The Wizard of Oz.” The musical biopic is set late 1960s shortly before Garland’s death, focusing on the performer’s run at the Talk of the Town club in London.

The new footage, which was first teased during London Pride over the weekend with a special introduction by Zellweger, sees Garland arrive at a hotel with her two children, only to find that her suite has been released because her account was in debt. With her home and manager lost, Garland is offered a job in London, but she must leave her children in America in order to take it.

Truth be told I don't know Judy Garland from much more than starring in director Victor Fleming's classic 1939 musical adaptation of author L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz. But all the same, starring as Dorothy Gale from the original The Wizard of Oz is one hell of a film to headline your resume, am I right? Right. Whilst attending London Pride this weekend, Renee Zellweger premiered a brand new trailer for the film based Lgbtq Icon ‘Judy’ Garland.

The unveiling marks both the 50th anniversary of Judy Garland’s untimely death and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, the historic protests in New York City that sparked a revolution in Lgbtq rights.

For those of you who don’t know, Judy Garland led a hell of a hard life filled with a ridiculous amount of abuse from people throughout her life and it all started when she was a kid. It was incredibly tragic and sad and this film should shed some light on some of the stuff she went through.

Zellweger has been out of the spotlight for years. She lost that star power that she once had, but it looks like a film like this could actually reinvigorate her career. It looks like she is going to give an incredible performance. But, we’ll just have to wait and see. I certainly like what I’m seeing from this first trailer!

Academy Award winner Renée Zellweger is making a major return to the big screen this fall, playing none other then Hollywood icon Judy Garland. Based on the play End of the Rainbow by Peter Quilter, Judy details the final days of Garland’s life while performing at a residency in London’s infamous Talk of the Town.

Her children and much-younger fiancé Mickey Deans (Finn Wittrock) are shown throughout the trailer while Zellweger gently croons Garland’s classic “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.” Directed by Rupert Goold (True Story), Judy is currently slated for a United Kingdom release on August 4 and a United States debut on September 27, which makes it seems primed for Tiff.
