The upcoming fifth season of Phineas and Ferbis set to premiere on June 5, nearly a decade to the day after the fourth season of the Disney Channel series concluded. When “Phineas and Ferb” returns for a new season Thursday on Disney Channel and next day on Disney+, it’ll have been just shy of a decade since the Season 4 finale aired back in June 2015.

And while “Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe” debuted on Disney+ in August 2020, the team behind the Emmy-winning animated series told TheWrap at Saturday’s premiere just how touching it was to see the cartoon remain relevant in pop culture despite 10 years off the air.

Another 104 days of summer vacation are on the horizon. Disney has released the first four minutes of Phineas & Ferb's Season 5 premiere episode, "Summer Block Buster."

The sneak peek begins with Phineas recounting the events of "Last Day of Summer," the Season 4 finale (and series finale of the show's original run), to his class on the last day of school. While summer doesn't technically start until the next day, Phineas begins to break into song, pointing out how they can get half a day of summer today, since school ends at 3 Pm. What follows is the first new song for the revival, with Phineas, Ferb, and the rest of their friends unleashing a catchy tune about how "Summer Is Starting Right Now." Co-creators and exec producers Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh were set to share more information about the upcoming revival during a Thursday panel at New York Comic-Con — including a reveal of who else is returning from the original animated series cast.

Cartoon Network Studios is expanding the Adventure Time universe once again. Revealed at the Annecy Animation Festival during the Warner Bros. Animation studio focus panel, the franchise is branching out with a feature film and two new television series.

According to Variety, the feature film, which is currently under development, has yet to reveal its full story details. However, it boasts a strong creative team. Rebecca Sugar, celebrated creator of Steven Universe; Patrick McHale, the mind behind Over the Garden Wall; and Adam Muto, the showrunner of Adventure Time, are all set to lend their expertise.

It's difficult to encapsulate the impact of Pendelton Ward's animated juggernaut, "Adventure Time." Max and Adult Swim executive Suzanna Makkos explained why the upcoming Adventure Time spinoff Fionna & Cake is best suited for a young adult demographic.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Makkos opened up about Fionna & Cake, promising that the animated spinoff would certainly catch the interest of Adventure Time fans who have grown up watching the popular Cartoon Network series. She revealed that Fionna & Cake is part of the streamer's efforts to keep up with the current high demand for adult animation content. "The Adventure Time fans have grown up and people are still coming in the bottom, and they're aging up," Makkos said. "It felt like a perfect show for us. Tonally, it is very much Adventure Time, but Fiona's older. She's in the workforce. It's more adult, so I think it's going to bring in new fans, and it's also going to serve the fans that we already have.

A Phineas and Ferb revival is in the works as part of creator Dan Povenmire’s newly inked overall deal with Disney Branded Television.

There will be another 40 episodes of the popular animated series produced as part of the deal, which will equate to two seasons. It’s not clear where the episodes will air, since Disney Branded Television currently produces series across Disney Channel, Disney+, Disney Junior and Disney Xd.

Disney Branded Television President Ayo Davis made the announcement in conjunction with Povenmire during Friday’s Television Critics Association panel.

“There’s songs that we wrote in 2005 for this show that are trending on TikTok. That has been one of the best times in my career is the fact that this whole generation of kids and parents really took this show into their hearts, and it still means so much to them,” Povenmire said.

Writer-director Richard Curtis reflected on the beloved classic film, saying the lack of diversity makes him “feel uncomfortable and a bit stupid” two decades later.

“There are things you’d change but, thank God, society is changing, so my film is bound, in some moments, to feel out of date,” Curtis said in a interview with Diane Sawyer for ABC’s 20th-anniversary special “The Laughter & Secrets of Love Actually: 20 Years Later” (via Entertainment Weekly).

Curtis continued, “The lack of diversity makes me feel uncomfortable and a bit stupid. You know, I think there are sort of three plots that have sort of bosses and people who work for them.”

Hugh Grant has said that Richard Curtis’s script for Love Actually is “a bit psychotic”.

The Notting Hill star appears in the 2003 Christmas ensemble romcom as the British prime minister who falls in love with an employee (Martine McCutcheon).

On Tuesday (29 November), Grant was interviewed as part of Diane Sawyer’s ABC special The Laughter & Secrets of Love Actually: 20 Years Later.

The 62-year-old spoke about writer Curtis’s script for the film, calling it “a bit psychotic” and adding that it is “Richard on steroids”.

“But the thing is with him, what you have to remember is when he writes about love, he means it,” Grant added. “And that is quite rare.”

In 1969, when “Sesame Street” premiered, it invented a thing called children’s “educational” television, and few would deny that it fulfilled that mission — to teach kids and delight them at the same moment. The legacy of “Sesame Street” is vast, to the point that dozens of children’s shows that don’t call themselves educational, or even think of themselves that way, now subscribe to the same mission. In our era, some of the best kids’ TV has been fast and furious, diabolically witty and smart — the educational equivalent of a roller-coaster ride. I’m thinking of shows like “Team Umizoomi,” “The Loud House,” “Apple & Onion,” and “Phineas and Ferb,” which ended its four-season run on the Disney Channel in 2015. So it’s no surprise that “Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe” is one of the sharpest kids’ movies in a while.

Movies have been around since the late 19th century, but only now — after more than 100 years of failure — has someone finally made one that hinges on the invention of a ray gun that replaces anyone it shoots with the nearest available chicken. The device is called “The Chicken Replace-inator,” and it’s the latest weapon created by the mad scientist Dr. Doofenshmirtz (of Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated fame) in his never-ending quest to kill the fedora-wearing secret agent who always foils his plans and also happens to be a platypus — Perry the platypus.

The cackling lovechild of Abe Vigoda and the Wicked Witch of the West, Doofenshmirtz has come up with all sorts of cockamamie schemes to destroy Perry over the years — one for each of the 222 episodes of “Phineas and Ferb” that aired on the Disney Channel between 2007 and 2015 — but the Chicken Replace-inator has to be among the dumbest and most inspired.

This year’s virtual Comic-Con@Home has announced its schedule for Friday, July 24. The highlights are below.

The virtual event replaces the annual San Diego Comic-Con, the largest fan convention in North America, which was to be held July 22–26 at the San Diego Convention Center, until the Covid-19 pandemic forced its cancellation.

In June, Comic-Con International — the non-profit organization that oversees Sdcc and its sister event, WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif. — announced it was moving forward with the virtual event on the same dates. This time, however, the event is free and open to all.

Friday’s events include panels for all three of AMC’s “Walking Dead” series, Hulu’s new Marvel series “Helstrom,” and creatives like Charlize Theron, Joss Whedon, and Robert Kirkman.

The Comic-Con@Home schedule — including Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23 — is being announced daily through Sunday.
