The “Resident Alien” cast took a final bow at their first, and now last, San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panel, the morning after news broke that their show was canceled.
The panel was one of the first on Friday morning and came after USA Network canceled “Resident Alien” Thursday evening. Showrunner Chris Sheridan and stars Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds and Alice Wetterlund all touched on the cancellation and reflected on the four seasons of the sci-fi dramedy. It has three episodes left to air, with the series finale bowing in two weeks.
“We crafted this season that wraps our storylines and gives the audience a very satisfying conclusion to the four seasons they’ve been watching,” Sheridan said. “I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve done in this season. I can’t wait for you to see it.”

One particular alien is on its way to global domination, at least as far as the Top 10 streaming charts are concerned. As of July 10, Resident Alien, which premiered its fourth season in June, is the No. 5 most streamed show globally on iTunes, per FlixPatrol.
The Alan Tudyk-led series from creator Chris Sheridan is ahead of shows like The Day of the Jackal, SpongeBob SquarePants, Bachelor in Paradise, the Tom Hardy-led Taboo, and Pinky and the Brain, which are in the No. 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 spots in iTunes’ Top 10, respectively. If you love something, set it free. If it’s an alien with commitment issues and genocidal in-laws, maybe just… text first. I won’t lie: Resident Alien Season 4, Episode 4 (Truth Hurts) hit me like a laser beam straight to the heart. Who knew a proposal between a former alien and his very-much-still-alien baby mama would spiral into family racism, emotional sacrifice, and… grave-digging?
Yes, that all happened, and somehow it all works. Episode 3 was a wild blend of comedy, conspiracy, and emotional heart-tugging, all with a retro horror twist, but episode 4? The latest one opens with romantic tension, jumps to a proposal (Heather pops the question to a now-human Harry), and crashes face-first into heartbreak (her dad literally attacks him).
Meanwhile, Kate starts connecting alien-baby dots, Mike spills alien tea to Lena, and Liv installs forest cams hoping to catch some UFO action. And she’s always two steps behind.

One of this year’s funniest comedies, Friendship, is available to rent or purchase on Digital! You can rent the Tim Robinson-led film for $19.99 or buy the feature digitally for $24.99 on Prime Video, Apple TV, and other video-on-demand platforms. If physical media is your poison, you can pre-purchase the movie on Blu-ray and DVD at participating retailers. The physical version of Friendship does not have a release date, but A24 should let us know when it’s coming to shelves soon.
Written and directed by Andrew DeYoung, the film stars Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson) and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) in the story of a suburban dad (Robinson) who becomes hellbent on being BFFs with his charismatic new neighbor (Rudd). In his review, Chris Bumbray wrote that the film is, in addition to being very funny, “surprisingly nuanced about how hard it is to make friends as an adult male.

Resident Alien doesn’t waste time reminding us who it is. The Season 4 premiere, titled “Prison,” throws us right back into the chaos, equal parts absurd, heartfelt, and existential.
And true to the episode’s name, nearly every character is stuck somewhere they don’t want to be, literally or emotionally. I found myself thinking about the word in a dozen different ways by the time the episode wrapped.
Even Harry’s signature voiceovers lean into it: humans, he tells us, are already living in prisons — of fear, belief, routine. And for once, he might be more right than weird.
(James Dittiger/USA Network) Harry’s Literal Prison
When we first see Harry, he’s wandering an alien ship with a baby alien strapped to his back, misnaming D’arcy as “Darby” and “Arby.” It’s a laugh-out-loud moment. But what follows cuts deeper.

Season 4 of Resident Alien may be packed with action, but at its core, it remains a story about identity, connection, and the relationships that bind us to our humanity, even in the face of extraterrestrial chaos.

For Meredith Garretson, Season 4 finds Kate in survival mode.

If you thought Resident Alien was already spinning a lot of plates, Season 4 might just knock the entire cabinet off the wall — in the best possible way.
Series creator and showrunner Chris Sheridan sat down to talk about the upcoming season and the challenges and joys that came with pulling off one of the show’s most jam-packed storylines yet.
With characters scattered across town, aliens replicating themselves, and the fate of the world in question, Sheridan promises a season filled with forward momentum and emotional depth.
(Courtesy of Syfy)
Sheridan explained that the creative team never wants to “tread water.”
Each character is treated like the lead of their own show, complete with personal arcs, emotional wounds, and the yearning to grow — a sentiment that helps ground the series even when the science fiction elements soar.

Friendship, an upcoming A24 comedy starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd, is now regarded as one of the best films of the year thus far. The film is getting a limited theatrical release, but it sounds like audiences should do whatever is necessary to catch Andrew DeYoung's feature-length directorial debut that has the I Think You Should Leave star taking his unique comedic sensibilities to the big screen.
As of this writing, Friendship has a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 61 reviews. If it stays around that number, it will be a Top 15-rated film on the review aggregate website for 2025. The critic consensus reads, "Tim Robinson expands his exquisitely painful cringe comedy style to feature length with seamless results in Friendship, a toxic bromance that'll make audiences laugh and wince in equal measure." “There’s no rules for male friendship!” exclaims Paul Rudd’s Peter Klaven in John Hamburg’s 2009 film I Love You, Man as he agonizes over the intricacies of platonic etiquette. Over a decade and a half later, the actor returns to find humor and insight across the same thematic terrain in writer-director Andrew DeYoung’s Friendship. This time, however, his character is the object of anxious affection rather than its originator.
Society, too, has shifted since 2009. Today, the epidemic of male loneliness is taken seriously as an “issue” to debate rather than merely a topic of discussion, though it’s also prone to being skewered by meme culture. Friendship lands somewhere in the middle of that spectrum, offering little in the way of answers or cures yet providing plenty of gut-busting laughs. While not necessarily a response to the times, it’s undeniably a product of them.

Fans can finally rest easy knowing the fourth season of Alan Tudyk's sci-fi dramedy, Resident Alien, is returning. The show faced a grim future after Season 3, but its fate changed. Syfy has set the return date for June 6. The new season also sees a slight release change. New episodes will be simulcast on two NBCUniversal networks, with USA Network joining Syfy to get the show in front of viewers. This was one of the compromises made to ensure the show returns for another season, apart from the budget cuts that were instituted. Apart from the live airing, new episodes will be available to stream on Peacock a week after their on-air debut. The season's trailer has also been released, previewing the events where Patience faces a new threat while Harry finds himself in captivity. The official synopsis for the season reads:

Almost a year after Resident Alien moved from Syfy to NBCUniversal sibling USA Network with a suspenseful Season 4 renewal, a premiere date has been set for said Season 4 and, surprisingly, it involves both the sci-fi comedy-drama’ new and old homes.
The new season of Resident Alien will debut June 6 as a simulcast on USA and Syfy. The decision to keep the show on Syfy in addition to its USA run reportedly came in the months following the Season 4 renewal. Also today, Syfy announced a June 12 premiere for its new scripted series Revival, headlined by Wynonna Earp star Melanie Scrofano. Episodes of Resident Alien and Revival — both based on comics — will be available on Peacock a week after they premiere on the linear networks.

Imagine what it would be like to be friends with Paul Rudd. Seemingly ageless, always a laugh, and an actual Avenger, the guy is God tier Bff material. Now imagine what it would be like to be friends with Paul Rudd and then have him turn around and tell you he thinks it's time you start seeing other people. Unthinkable, we know — until now. Because that is precisely the premise of writer-director Andrew DeYoung's upcoming A24 comedy Friendship, in which I Think You Should Leave funnyman Tim Robinson and Rudd play two middle-aged men from the 'burbs whose bromance goes from I Love You, Man to The Banshees Of Inisherin real quick. The legendary Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson are joining forces in the new dark comedy film Friendship. Robinson, known for his awkward, absurd comedy in I Think You Should Leave, is teaming up with Rudd, who plays a great straight man sure to complement Robinson's overt humor. A24 just released the first trailer for Friendship, which shows off the dynamic between Robinson, the lonely outsider, and Rudd, his new friend who quickly decides to drop the odd guy.
Fans of the famous pairing are loving the new trailer for Friendship, which was written and directed by Andrew DeYoung, whose credits include some of TV's best comedies, like Pen15, Dave, and Our Flag Means Death. Many fans of Robinson's past work are comparing the unconventional film to his popular comedy show, with one commenter on the YouTube trailer saying, "This feels like a ‘i think you should leave’ sketch and i love it.

JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray had the chance to watch the comedy Friendship at the Toronto International Film Festival last year – and he loved it, giving it an 8/10 review that you can read at This Link. Resident Alien season 3 brilliantly changed the show, and it needs to stick with its decision when the next run of episodes is released. Although it looked for a while as though Alan Tudyk's sci-fi dramedy wouldn't be renewed, USA Network inherited the show from Syfy and Resident Alien season 4 is now officially on the way. With Tudyk coming back to lead the Resident Alien cast, the show is likely to continue on its strong trajectory. Hopefully, one of the biggest alterations made ahead of Resident Alien season 3 will remain in place as the saga continues.
Although Resident Alien got off to a relatively slow start in terms of popularity, the arrival of seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix early in 2024 quickly boosted the show's profile as it immediately made its way to the platform's most-watched list. We often talk about how hard it is to forge new friendships as we get older. Our routines lock us into specific spaces where meeting new people and trying new things is hard. With that being said, have you ever met someone who's a little too eager to be friends, or maybe even uncomfortably overzealous? You hit it off, hang out, and as you get to know them, alarm bells go off. Andrew DeYoungs new film Friendship takes this premise, turns it up to the highest degree, and utilizes cringe connoisseur Tim Robinson to take it as far as possible.
The film banks on several hilarious scenarios that play much like a full-length sketch from Robinson's acclaimed Netflix show, I Think You Should Leave, but there are also some intelligent epiphanies sprinkled throughout Friendship. In between, DeYoung lets his main character run amok and burn everything down.

The official TIFF X account unveiled the first image of Friendship, the comedy film from writer/director Andrew DeYoung. This will be DeYoung's feature directorial debut after helming only television episodes and shorts thus far in his career, with his most notable working coming from directing four episodes of Our Flag Means Death, the swashbuckler pirate comedy starring Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby. Paul Rudd will star in Friendship, along with Kata Mara, Tim Robinson, Meredith Garretson, Josh Segarra, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Jon Glaser. The film will make its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival, but does not yet have an international theatrical or streaming release date.

Rest easy, Resident Alien fans. The show has officially been renewed for a fourth season!
It was a close call at NBCU about the show's future, so this is excellent news.
The big difference is that the show will no longer air on Syfy but on the sister NBCU site, USA Network.
We all wish USA's Blue Sky programming were still going today.
They've been out of scripted originals for a couple of years, but with the announcement of The Rainmaker last month, they're back in business.

Deadline reported earlier this year that the Resident Alien renewal was questionable, and they're breaking the news about it today, just as they expected by jumping networks.
At the time, they also said there would be a significant budget reduction, so when we return, things may not be the same in Patience, Colorado.

It’s official: Resident Alien has been renewed for a fourth season at a new NBCUniversal home, USA Network, moving from cable sibling Syfy.
As Deadline reported exclusively last month, the quirky sci-fi comedy-drama was not likely to continue on Syfy, with a move to USA as its most viable option to get a fourth season with a significant budget reduction. The transfer gives USA a second new scripted series, joining the recently picked up legal drama The Rainmaker as the once-thriving original scripted brand is returning to the arena with a slate influenced by the network’s glorious “Blue Sky” era that spanned most of the 2000s and early 2010s.

Resident Alien is on the move.
The dark sci-fi comedy starring Alan Tudyk has been renewed for a fourth season, and is shifting homes from Syfy to USA Network.
The idea is to expose the show to a broader audience, as USA Network tends to have a bit more reach than Syfy. Resident Alien has also recently gotten an awareness boost from Netflix picking up its first two seasons earlier this year.
Resident Alien stars Tudyk as crash-landed alien named Harry who tries to blend in with humans in a small Colorado town while hiding his secret mission to destroy humanity. The most recent, third season averaged 3.3 million total viewers across all platforms.
The move comes on the heels of USA reentering the scripted originals space by picking up a straight-to-series order for a reboot of the John Grisham legal drama The Rainmaker, from producers Lionsgate TV and Blumhouse TV.
