The “Resident Alien” cast took a final bow at their first, and now last, San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panel, the morning after news broke that their show was canceled.

The panel was one of the first on Friday morning and came after USA Network canceled “Resident Alien” Thursday evening. Showrunner Chris Sheridan and stars Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds and Alice Wetterlund all touched on the cancellation and reflected on the four seasons of the sci-fi dramedy. It has three episodes left to air, with the series finale bowing in two weeks.

“We crafted this season that wraps our storylines and gives the audience a very satisfying conclusion to the four seasons they’ve been watching,” Sheridan said. “I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve done in this season. I can’t wait for you to see it.”

Resident Alien doesn’t waste time reminding us who it is. The Season 4 premiere, titled “Prison,” throws us right back into the chaos, equal parts absurd, heartfelt, and existential.

Fans can finally rest easy knowing the fourth season of Alan Tudyk's sci-fi dramedy, Resident Alien, is returning. The show faced a grim future after Season 3, but its fate changed. The out of this world talented Stephen Root is joining “Resident Alien” Season 4 in a guest star role, Variety has learned exclusively.

Root will play the father of Harry (Alan Tudyk). According to the official character description, Root’s character will appear to his son in human form and “push Harry to go back to his evil alien roots.”

“Resident Alien” was renewed for Season 4 in June 2024, with the show set to move from Syfy to fellow NBCUniversal cabler USA Network. The new season does not have a premiere date at the time of this publishing. Along with Tudyk and Root, the cast also includes Sara Tomko, Alice Wetterlund, Levi Fiehler, Meredith Garretson, Corey Reynolds, and Elizabeth Bowen.

The legendary Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson are joining forces in the new dark comedy film Friendship. Robinson, known for his awkward, absurd comedy in I Think You Should Leave, is teaming up with Rudd, who plays a great straight man sure to complement Robinson's overt humor. A24 just released the first trailer for Friendship, which shows off the dynamic between Robinson, the lonely outsider, and Rudd, his new friend who quickly decides to drop the odd guy.

Although it looked for a while as though Alan Tudyk's sci-fi dramedy wouldn't be renewed, USA Network inherited the show from Syfy and Resident Alien season 4 is now officially on the way. With Tudyk coming back to lead the Resident Alien cast, the show is likely to continue on its strong trajectory. Hopefully, one of the biggest alterations made ahead of Resident Alien season 3 will remain in place as the saga continues.

Acclaimed comedian and series creator Tim Robinson discusses the future of I Think You Should Leave at Netflix.

Speaking to Collider, Robinson responded to the question of whether there would be more I Think You Should Leave in the future with, "It's not over. I don't think it's over." Although Robinson said he could not say anything about whether he and series co-creator Zach Kanin were currently writing any sketches for a potential fourth season of the hit Netflix sketch comedy, he did respond with, "That's fair," when asked if fans of I Think You Should Leave should be in a good mood about where the show is headed.

The next film for one charming MCU star has just got an exciting first look and an update on its premiere. The official TIFF X account unveiled the first image of Friendship, the comedy film from writer/director Andrew DeYoung. This will be DeYoung's feature directorial debut after helming only television episodes and shorts thus far in his career, with his most notable working coming from directing four episodes of Our Flag Means Death, the swashbuckler pirate comedy starring Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby. Paul Rudd will star in Friendship, along with Kata Mara, Tim Robinson, Meredith Garretson, Josh Segarra, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Jon Glaser. The film will make its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival, but does not yet have an international theatrical or streaming release date.

Rest easy, Resident Alien fans. The show has officially been renewed for a fourth season!

It was a close call at NBCU about the show's future, so this is excellent news.

The big difference is that the show will no longer air on Syfy but on the sister NBCU site, USA Network.

They've been out of scripted originals for a couple of years, but with the announcement of The Rainmaker last month, they're back in business.

As Deadline reported exclusively last month, the quirky sci-fi comedy-drama was not likely to continue on Syfy, with a move to USA as its most viable option to get a fourth season with a significant budget reduction. The transfer gives USA a second new scripted series, joining the recently picked up legal drama The Rainmaker as the once-thriving original scripted brand is returning to the arena with a slate influenced by the network’s glorious “Blue Sky” era that spanned most of the 2000s and early 2010s.
