Vince Calandra Sr., who as a longtime booker for CBS juggernaut The Ed Sullivan Show helped introduce The Beatles to America’s TV audience, has died. He was 91. According to a local mortuary’s obit, he died Saturday at his home in Woodland Hills, CA.
Calandra was just 23 when he landed a job on Sullivan’s talent showcase, which already had been a Sunday night staple for nearly a decade. Starting in the mailroom, he graduated to holding the cue cards and eventually to talent booker. At the dawn of the British Invasion of U.S. radio airwaves and record players, he was instrumental to bringing Liverpudlian upstarts John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr to the Ed Sullivan Show stage, creating a landmark moment in TV and music history.
It was February 9, 1964, when The Beatles made the first of three appearances on the show within two weeks.

To be fair, I’d probably lose my job and disappoint my father if I set out to write a “celebration of fly white boys who love beautiful queens of every race,” too.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday said that it would not hear a lawsuit filed against musician Ed Sheeran that alleged his hit single Thinking Out Loud copied Marvin Gaye’s classic Let’s Get It On.
The Supreme Court justices declined to hear an appeal filed by Structured Asset Sales, a company owned by investment banker David Pullman, that owns a partial stake in Gaye’s 1973 song.
Structured Asset Sales first sued Sheeran, his record label Warner Music, and music publisher Sony Music Publishing in 2023, seeking monetary damages over alleged similarities between the two songs. A U.S. District Judge sided with Sheeran in the original case, concluding that the song’s melody, harmony, and rhythm were too common to require copyright protection. The New York-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the decision last year.

After winning his second best actor Oscar, Adrien Brody took on a new role at the amfAR Cannes Gala on Thursday night — that of an artist.
Brody, who has previously called painting his “first love,” took the stage at the star-studded auction to present a mixed media piece he created of Marilyn Monroe — and demanded the chatty crowd’s attention. Sporting a sparkly black suit, the actor shushed the crowd as he got on stage in a moment reminiscent of his now-infamous five-minute Oscars speech. “Please, for a moment, I know it’s a big room,” he said.
He then explained his inspiration behind the piece, saying that it represents “what Marilyn’s life did not afford her”: “To live a life fully and to cherish all the moments and the imperfections in life.”
Brody continued, “Women are so often objectified in the media and on social media. They...

At the Masked Singer Season 13 finale on Wednesday, Boogie Woogie watched as Pearl was crowned champion and whisked away with the Golden Mask trophy. It was a bittersweet ending for the orange disco daddy, who had amazed panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora throughout the season.
After the confetti settled, Boogie Woogie turned on the charm as he removed his mask to reveal multiplatinum recording artist Andy Grammer.
"I'm very competitive, so I can't say I didn't care," Grammer tells Gold Derby (watch the video interview above). Lucky Season 13 of The Masked Singer came to a thrilling finale Wednesday night, with Pearl claiming the coveted Golden Mask trophy over Boogie Woogie, Coral, and Mad Scientist Monster. After the confetti dropped and panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora made their final guesses, Pearl removed her bejeweled mask to reveal Grammy-winning country star Gretchen Wilson.
"I was absolutely expecting Boogie to win all the way up to the last minute," Wilson tells Gold Derby (watch the video interview above). "We became friends and we were sort of rooting for each other. And the mom in me, not having any idea who was behind that mask, kind of wanted to share it with him. We were in the same group. We had performed side by side pretty much throughout this whole thing. So Pearl and Boogie Woogie really got to know each other as the characters.

The Masked Singer's catchphrase is "take it off," and now it's doing just that for fall 2025.
Fox's reality TV show usually produces two cycles per calendar year, but after host Nick Cannon announces the Season 13 winner on Wednesday night, viewers won't see any new episodes until January 2026. So, why is the hit series taking a longer-than-ever break?
"Among Fox’s most enduring signature shows is The Masked Singer with a truly devoted fanbase," said the network. "This juggernaut will return next year for Season 14 as it takes midseason by storm with a spectacular, super-charged new season." Per Variety, Fox is calling this "a strategic move to give ample runway for America’s favorite guessing game and allow us to creatively look at enhancing the show with the biggest names at the center of it."
The Masked Singer has debuted a new season in September every year since 2019, with its second installment.

Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 13, Episode 11 of “The Masked Singer,” “Soundtrack of My Life Night,” which aired April 23 on Fox.
Well, I’ll be. Edwin McCain, the singer/songwriter behind the 1990s hit song “I’ll Be,” was the latest celebrity to be revealed on Season 13 of Fox’s “The Masked Singer.” On the show’s Wednesday episode, McCain was unmasked as Nessy after performing “Million Reasons,” by Lady Gaga.
“Honestly, I’ve done so many different things in my career, like we’ve landed on an aircraft carrier off the coast of Korea and played for the sailors on board,” he told Variety of why he did the show. “We’ve been to Djibouti, Africa and Bahrain, and we’ve played every state in the US, except for Alaska. If life be an adventure, this certainly falls in that category. I was like, of course, I’ll do that.
