Action thriller Safehouse, family sci-fi Space Pups on slate.

Premiere Entertainment Group (Peg) has boarded creature feature Crom, action thriller Safehouse, and family sci-fi Space Pups and has begun talks with EFM buyers.

Crom is in the vein of 1980s genre cinema and follows a group of high school teenagers who unleash a mythological being in their hometown and must stop it before midnight on Halloween. Chelsea Jurkiewicz, Tanner Gillman, Colin Cunningham, and Monica Moore Smith star.

Rob York directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Baird. York produced with J.R. Andrus, while Jason Faller, Kynan Griffin and Taylor Ellis served as executive producers.

Take one 80s action star and one current kick-ass action movie icon and throw in a strange, mythical creature and you get Legendary (aka Legendary: Tomb of the Dragon, aka Legendary 3D). A family-friendly, Indiana Jones-style monster movie that follows cryptozoologist Travis (Adkins) who, after the death of one of his team whilst chasing down an undiscovered prehistoric bear, travels to China in search of what isn’t supposed to exist: a mythical creature, a Cryptid, which is wreaking havoc in a remote village where a new pipeline is being laid. However standing in their way is bounty-hunter Harker (Lundgren) whose plan – as it was when he teamed...

In my mind, Danny Trejo is nothing short of an icon. Playing a wide array of characters including the bartender in From Dusk Till Dawn to the bartender in Anchorman, Trejo has kicked more ass in his late 60s than most of us will in our lives – but this macho Mexicano might benefit from being a tad bit pickier about what horror movies he participates in. There should honestly be a Video On Demand category titled “Movies Featuring Danny Trejo,” as so many indie hopefuls plaster Trejo’s name for all to see – no matter how small his part is. Voodoo Possession is simply the latest movie to trick Trejo fans into an ill-fated viewing, scoring Danny for a few quick scenes and then shining his name in lights as if he’s a major player. It’s Ok to say “no” every once and a while Dt (think that’ll catch on?...

Voodoo has always been a creepy subject, and a popular choice for horror films, perhaps most notably with the classic (and first) White Zombie, starring Bela Lugosi as an evil voodoo master. Now, the misunderstood religion finds itself in the spotlight once again, with FX’s hit American Horror Story: Coven. But that’s not the only horror property delving into the Haitian religion. Allow me to introduce you to Walter Boholst’s horror film Voodoo Possession, out today, January 14th, on VOD platforms. Despite the over the top name, the film actually has complicated themes (and Danny Trejo), and isn’t a straight riff on the wacky voodoo doll tropes of bad horror movies. I recently got a chance to talk with actor and star Ryan Caltagirone (The Flip Side, The Big Year), who plays the tortured protagonist Aiden Chase in the film.

Veteran actor Conrad Janis, best known as Mindy’s dad on the sitcom Mork & Mindy, has sent Fango word on a free screening of his new horror film Bad Blood…The Hunger this weekend in Los Angeles. The movie will unspool Saturday, February 21 at 6:45 p.m. at the Fine Arts Theater (8556 Wilshire Boulevard).

The film is showing courtesy of the Beverly Hills Hi-Def Film Festival, where it won second place last month. Bad Blood stars director Janis alongside Academy Award-nominated actress and Carrie star Piper Laurie as an old couple who take in a group of vacationing youths after their truck is driven off the road. Their hospitality is just a cover, however, as they are the leaders of a sinister cultlike group and the teens find themselves in serious danger.
