Godzilla x Kong: Supernova cast member Matthew Modine explains why he did the movie
Godzilla and King Ghidorah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
More than a decade has passed since Legendary Pictures secured the rights to Godzilla and other characters owned and created by the Japanese company Toho so they could launch a cinematic universe they call the MonsterVerse – and they also secured the rights to the King Kong character so he could be part of their MonsterVerse as well. Things got started with Godzilla in 2014, and since then the universe has expanded with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, the animated series Skull Island, the live-action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. A third Godzilla / Kong mash-up is now on the way – and a couple of months ago, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. officially announced that filming is underway, unveiling an ominous teaser, revealing that the film is aiming for a March 26, 2027 theatrical release, and giving it a title – Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

‘Godzilla x Kong: Supernova’ Star Shares Surprising First Comments About the Sequel [Exclusive]
Image
The MonsterVerse just got a little more delightful thanks to Matthew Modine, who offered fans a playful behind-the-scenes peek at the making of Godzilla x Kong: Supernova during a panel at FanX's Tampa Bay Comic Convention this weekend. Appearing alongside Stranger Things co-star David Harbour, Modine couldn’t resist sharing his own brand of kaiju-induced existential comedy with Collider's Maggie Lovitt — and yes, it turns out he joined the movie for one very wholesome reason. “I just worked in Godzilla x King Kong: Supernova,” Modine said with a grin. “That was pretty exciting. Oh, to work with Godzilla.”

The Oscar-nominated actor — who joins a stacked cast including Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Stevens, Delroy Lindo, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Sam Neill — reflected on what it means to be a grown-up playing pretend, especially when the co-stars you're acting opposite are skyscraper-sized monsters rendered entirely in VFX.

“When I was working on Godzilla — that...

The Sequel to Dan Stevens' 89% Rotten Tomatoes Action Epic Gets a Titanic Filming Update
Image
It might still be a long way out before Godzilla x Kong: Supernova roars into theaters, but any sort of update on a MonsterVerse project is always welcome. Filming on the sixth installment of the franchise kicked off in April on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Fans even got an early look at the production when a set video depicting a disaster scene in London surfaced on social media, showing just how nicely the action was progressing. Now, three months in, the Australian leg of filming has wrapped, and production has shifted stateside in what is likely the final stretch of filming before the production segues into the post-production phase.

The latest update comes via a social media post from Ann Foley, one of the film’s costume designers. "That's a wrap on Australia. Next up, Utah," she wrote, pairing the announcement with a humorous meme of three disheveled...

Godzilla X Kong: Supernova Star Explains How The Sequel Is Tackling The Oldest Monsterverse Problem
Image
Godzilla X Kong: Supernova star Delroy Lindo provides some perspective on how the next entry in Legendary's Monsterverse could break new ground with its human cast. While very little is known about the plot of Godzilla X Kong: Supernova, the non-Titan cast list has been steadily growing for months now, and it's loaded with renowned stars like Lindo.

In an interview segment with Ktvu in Oakland, Lindo got into his experience on the set of the upcoming third team-up between Godzilla and Kong. He specifically noted his appreciation for the producers from Legendary and Warner Bros. for their vision for the movie:

I appreciated the fact that these producers are equally cognizant of the fact that the human element in these narratives needs to be as strong as possible. And from that standpoint, they worked with me to flesh out the character they wanted me to play...we worked to...

Did Matthew Modine Just Spoil The Godzilla X Kong: Supernova Villain?
Image
Ever since the reveal of the sixth MonsterVerse installment’s cryptic title, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, fans have been in a frenzy of speculation. The mysterious subtitle alone has ignited wild theories about which towering threat the iconic duo will face next.

One dominant fan theory suggests that Supernova hints at a menace from beyond the stars, leading many to believe the film could mark the return of a cosmic nemesis from Godzilla’s past: SpaceGodzilla.

Fueling that speculation is newcomer Matthew Modine, who recently joined the cast. Not long after his casting, Modine began sharing clips from Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla on social media.

Now, the kaiju fandom is in a debate, was this a subtle hint, an accidental spoiler, or is Modine simply having fun without realizing he may have let something big slip?

Um uh... Holy Shit? pic.twitter.com/LmPeL27KeT

The Godzilla X Kong: Supernova Villain May Have Been Spoiled By One Of The Movie's Stars
Image
It looks like the big bad of the sequel to "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" has been revealed, even if it wasn't supposed to be. Warner Bros. and Legendary announced back in May that production had begun on "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova," which will be the sixth entry in the MonsterVerse overall following "Godzilla," "Kong: Skull Island," "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," "Godzilla vs. Kong," and the aforementioned "The New Empire." Now, one of the movie's human cast members has somewhat quietly -- and not so subtly -- hinted at a major monster from the past getting in on the action.

Those who wish to go into "Supernova" knowing as little as possible might wish to turn back now since what comes next could be venturing into spoiler territory. With that said: Matthew Modine, of "Stranger Things" fame, is playing one of the humans who will be mixing it...

Bad News Godzilla Fans, the Most Divisive ‘Godzilla x Kong’ Team Up Is Leaving Netflix Soon
Image
If you were planning a MonsterVerse marathon before Godzilla x Kong: Supernova stomps into cinemas in 2027, you’d better act fast. Netflix has announced that Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the franchise’s highest-grossing installment to date, is leaving the platform next month.

The 2024 titan showdown, which brought Godzilla and Kong together again for an even bigger battle, will exit Netflix on June 14, 2025. While the news may feel like a body slam to fans still dissecting the film’s kaiju lore, there’s at least one upside: The New Empire will remain available to stream on HBO Max, alongside Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla vs. Kong.

The removal is particularly surprising given the MonsterVerse’s momentum. With Godzilla x Kong: Supernova currently in production, you’d think Warner Bros. Discovery would want its biggest hit — literally and financially — as accessible as possible. After all, The New Empire roared to $571 million worldwide,...

Did Matthew Modine Just Drop a Clue About ‘Godzilla x Kong: Supernova’ Villain?
Image
Looks like a major secret from Godzilla x Kong: Supernova might’ve just slipped out, thanks to one of the movie’s new stars. Actor Matthew Modine, who recently joined the MonsterVerse, may have accidentally dropped a big hint about who Godzilla and Kong will be up against in the upcoming film.

Modine has been sharing stuff online, and fans quickly noticed he posted clips from the 1994 film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. That’s got a lot of people wondering if SpaceGodzilla is the next villain. It’s possible he didn’t know that the main enemy for the movie was supposed to be a surprise. Or maybe he’s just teasing fans. Either way, people are talking.

SpaceGodzilla is a huge name for long-time fans. He’s one of Godzilla’s strongest enemies, right up there with King Ghidorah and Destoroyah. He’s not just strong—he’s smart, too.

‘Apple Cider Vinegar’ Star Alycia Debnam-Carey Sounds the Alarm on Wellness Influence
Image
Alycia Debnam-Carey has always had a profound love of the arts. Though she’d been sharpening her acting skills since the age of 8 and landed roles in short films in Australia as a teen, Debnam-Carey found herself drawn to the “consistency and security” of music, so much so that the classical percussionist and jazz drummer nearly auditioned for the Sydney Conservatorium of Music ahead of her high school graduation.

“I was in my tutoring, getting ready for all the pieces that we were going to play and sitting there suddenly having the audition scheduled and going, ‘Actually, I don’t think I want to do this,’ ” recalls Debnam-Carey, 31. “I remember being like, ‘I’ve actually booked a flight to Hollywood’ — which was so chaotic — but I just inherently knew that acting was always something that I wanted to be doing.”

Image
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has been MonsterVerse's highest-grossing film since it entered theatres in 2024. Godzilla X Kong: Supernova: Everything We Know So Far About The Kaiju Sequel
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The MonsterVerse has become one of the most reliable, slow and steady cinematic universes going in Hollywood. Tracing its roots back to Gareth Edwards' gritty, grounded, divisive hit "Godzilla" in 2014, the franchise has since expanded to five increasingly wild movies, a TV show in the form of "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters," comics books, and even video games. Now, Warner Bros. and Legendary are reuniting once again for another kaiju-filled cinematic romp coming our way in 2027.

While virtually nothing has been revealed yet in terms of plot details, the studio has confirmed that "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova" has an official release date. Given that 2024's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" became the biggest movie in MonsterVerse history, that's not remotely surprising. So, what is "Supernova" going to bring to the table? Does the term relating to the implosion of a...

And more importantly: will Godzilla and Kong need space suits? If they don't, we're out.

Production is already underway in Queensland, Australia, marking the fourth MonsterVerse entry to shoot in the region after Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The New Empire. Legendary is once again rolling cameras at Village Roadshow Studios, where the film is expected to pump over Aud$93 million into the local economy and support more than 400 cast and crew members. 'Godzilla x Kong' Sequel Roars to Life With Gargantuan Filming Update

The MonsterVerse is back in action — and bigger than ever. Legendary Pictures has once again set up shop at Village Roadshow Studios, where production will inject an estimated Aud$93 million into the local economy and employ over 400 cast and crew.

But we're not here for the Australian economy, we're here for the Titan-sized turmoil on display, with yet another apocalyptic threat that forces Godzilla and Kong to once again team up — hopefully with more tag-team takedowns and less dental trauma. If history is any indication, expect skyscraper-level destruction, ancient monsters, and at least one slow-motion roar into the void.

Marvel legend joins the cast of the next Godzilla x Kong movie
Image
It's pretty apt that the next movie in Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise is generating such discussion around Easter time, for it was Easter last year that saw the most recent film in the series take the world by storm upon its release. This year, it's all about the casting, as the film has added yet another major star to its ever-growing cast.

The third movie in the Godzilla x Kong saga and sixth overall in the MonsterVerse film series (and to feature at least one of the titular movie monster legends), the upcoming sequel was commissioned off the back of the monumental success of last year's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. And for this new, somewhat unanticipated next chapter in the franchise, the monsters are reeling in some big stars.

The most recent addition to the line-up comes in the form of a Hollywood icon who knows a thing...
