'Machete Kills' Strangled By Lawsuit
Robert De Niro, Steven Seagal, Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, and Michelle Rodriguez in Machete (2010)
"Machete Kills" is being strangled by a new lawsuit.

Overnight Productions, owner of the action movie "Machete," has filed a $2 million lawsuit against filmmaker Robert Rodriguez's production company, Quick Draw Holdings LLC, and Machete Kills LLC. The suit alleges Rodriguez's company has withheld tax credits and lied about the budget of the upcoming movie "Machete Kills," a sequel to the 2010 mega-hit, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Although defendants have produced the sequel, they have failed to meet a condition precedent to their grant of rights, forcing plaintiffs to terminate the agreement," the lawsuit alleges, THR reports. "Defendants have also failed and refused to provide the required budget information to Overnight Productions so that it can determine the producer fee owed with respect to the sequel. As a result, plaintiffs have been forced to bring this action to confirm the cancellation of the grant of rights and to recover the amounts plaintiffs are owed.

Robert Rodriguez & Danny Trejo Return For Machete Kills
Robert Rodriguez’s next film will be Machete Kills, a sequel to his 2010 Grindhouse B-movie starring Danny Trejo that will shoot in April, according to Deadline.

Kyle Ward (writer of in-development Kane & Lynch) has completed the follow-up screenplay that he has been developing with Rodriguez & Marcel Rodriguez, with Trejo in talks to reprise the R-rated title character.

“The fan response to the Machete character has been fanatical since his first appearance,” Rodriguez said. “Machete is truly a super hero and Machete Kills will be bigger and more ambitious than the first time.”

The sequel will find Machete hired by the U.S. government and ordered to travel down to Mexico to battle a madman cartel and eccentric billionaire arms dealer who wants to start World War III. Sounds like a plot for a James Bond movie and wouldn’t you know it, just like Moonraker took James Bond into space,...

Machete Directors Sued
Robert De Niro, Steven Seagal, Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, and Michelle Rodriguez in Machete (2010)
Directors Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis have been named in a new breach of contract lawsuit over allegations they stole the idea for their 2010 movie Machete.

Yvonne Delarosa claims she met with Maniquis in 2005 and shared her plot ideas for a movie about a man who seeks revenge by embarking on a killing spree with a machete.

According to her legal documents, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, her storyline then became the basis for the filmmakers' bloody action movie starring Danny Trejo as Machete Cortez - but she didn't receive any money for the project.

Delarosa is now suing for unspecified damages, reports TMZ.com.

Review: Los Americans Showcases Dream Ensemble: Lupe Ontiveros, Esai Morales, Raymond Cruz & Yvonne Delarosa
Web Series: Los Americans

For fans of...: Telenovelas; Parenthood; Lupe Ontiveros, Esai Morales, Raymond Cruz or Yvonne Delarosa

What it is: An affluent Mexican American family overcomes obstacles.

What's good: Looks TV ready. Cast so strong (and famous) it had us doing doubletakes—more acting experience then most new television dramas. Fresh take on the American family.

What's great: Very real yet very dramatic. Character and plot reign over gimmicks and sentimentality. Manages to educate us about common contemporary struggles in a gripping and natural way. With every episode, we felt something and we learned something.

What could be better: Sound is uneven and occasionally distracting. First episode may be too expository.

Addictive like...: Bottles of Cuervo—neat

Grade: A-

Review based on: Episodes 1-4

‘Ylse’ Back For Season 2, Taps Booming Latino Market
Season 2 of "bicultural dramedy" web series Ylse (pronounced Eel-Say) kicked off today starting a 12-episode return. Ruth Livier, who's also the creator and lead writer of the series, is back as Ylse, an aspiring TV host working her way up the talk show circuit hoping to one day reach the level of her espoused idol Oprah. For now, however, Ylse is stuck in the dregs of the TV world on a bizarre Spanish language talk show. We've had our eye on this series for a while now, and we're glad to see it back for another season. The series had been picking up fans over the past year which included locking up a distribution deal with LatinHeat.com last fall and scoring the "Best Webisode" award at the 2009 Reel Rasquache Festival. Livier's bilingual script effortlessly jumps from English to Spanish, making the comedy easily accessible even for us Spanish newbies.
